Comments:1310 - I personally found Christian Scriptures really hard, but Dr. Holleyman made this class as good as it could be. He is so so sweet and tells great stories. He genuinely cares about his students, and like how other reviews have said, he totally gives grandpa vibes. He is so wholesome. Definitely take his class! No book purchase other than a Bible needed either which is awesome.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1310 - Professor Holleyman is super sweet, I highly recommend taking him. He is very passionate about the class and teaches it in an engaging way without forcing his views down your throat. People will complain about this class, but as long as you show up, take notes, and study it isn't bad at all. If you are struggling, go to his SI its super helpful. The course is 4 exams (multiple choice, based on the lectures) not really cumulative), 2 short easy essays where you have weeks to do it, and then a 5 minute quiz before every class that as long as you do the reading you will be fine. Compared to other professors the class is a breeze.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Rel 1310 - Quizzes are absolutely breezy. The tests are a little hard, but he is the most entertaining teacher for religion you will find. My friends and I crack jokes about how he pronunciates words all the damn time. Take it with your friends.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:REL1310 - Dr Holleyman is the GOAT. I absolutely adore this man. He is the definition of grandfather energy. His classes were super fun and interesting, he’s a caring guy, and a great teacher. Take this man for scriptures - you won’t regret it. Classes are lecture-based, as can be assumed. There were readings for every class and quizzes on those readings, as well as chapter summaries on the textbook due. Workload may have been a tad more than some other professors but I never seemed to have to study as much for exams (which are all multiple choice by the way) as much as my friends did so I think it evens out.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - he's a fine teacher, his class is boring though. It's not hard to pass as long as you pay attention and go to the TA and SI sessions  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:REL 1301 - Awesome teacher! I learned a ton with little work and straight forward exams.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - I don't think I have ever disliked a class more. As someone who did not grow up religious but is now, I felt at a very big disadvantage in the class. We had a reading every day and a quiz due every class period. He would not post the powerpoints even in the time of covid.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:1310 - I took Dr. Holleyman for Scriptures, and I loved every minute of it. He is so passionate about his faith, which is evident in every lecture. I have found myself sitting in church remembering things he said about what we were reading in his lectures, so I definitely got a lot out of his class. The SI was the most helpful way to do well on the tests, but if you take good notes you'll be ok. His quizzes were really easy and his readings were not long. There is no ECS, which made his class much easier. I highly recommend taking him, as some other classes are much harder and not as fun.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - I really enjoyed taking Holleyman's class because he's very chill. He would let us out of class at least 5 mins early almost every class and on Fridays, sometimes we were done 15-20 mins earlier. He does require you to do some reading before every class and take a quiz for the reading, but the quizzes aren't really hard. His class has an SI which makes is very helpful, especially for the exams. He is very nice and tries to make things simpler for his students. I highly recommend taking him.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:REL 1310 - TAKE HIM!!! I took Dr. Holleyman over the summer and I learned so much. He did video lectures and they were incredibly helpful. He was available over email and very willing to meet if you had any questions. It was definitely a lot of work but i made sure to dedicate 2-3 hours per day and I got it all done. He is a kind man (we scheduled a Zoom and talked for about 45 minutes about life). I highly recommend him and if I had an opportunity to take him again, I would in a heartbeat.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - TAKE HIM!!!!!! He is hands down the best professor here at Baylor! His faith is so evident in every class that he teaches and it is truly a blessing to learn from him! He doesn't require the textbook, only the Baylor Bible. He has daily quizzes but they are six questions and easy if you read the chapters. The exams are all multiple choice, and you can get a 95-100 on every exam if you study your notes! His class was an amazing experience!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - Professor Holleyman is absolutely amazing! He is extremely helpful and truly wants you to succeed in his class. GO TO SI! It's super helpful and probably the reason I made an A in his class.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - TAKE THIS CLASS!! Not only is Holleyman a wonderful professor who is incredibly passionate about scripture, but his lecture style is rich with information that applies long after the class is done. Typically there's a reading due by each class and a quiz, but they're very manageable as long as you don't forget. He makes you write a paper on a chunk of controversial scripture that some people struggled with so pay attention to the rubric. Go to SI and you'll be okay. Very glad I took Holleyman and he challenged us to think about our faith critically and apply what we believe to our lives practically. Worth taking and I'm very glad this is part of Baylor's common curriculum.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:REL 1310 - Dr. Holleyman is such an AMAZING professor! Many people complained about their scriptures class and professor but Dr. Holleyman was just wonderful. He has a solid faith and really knows what he's talking about in class. He makes the material interesting and simple for the class to understand. He doesn't assign much homework. We have 2 quizzes a week over the BIBLE, that’s the only book you need for this class. We had one short essay and 4 multiple choice exams. If you listen to his lectures and add to his power points, AND go to SI (which helped me immensely for this class), you will do great! TAKE HIM! You won’t regret it, I promise!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:REL 1310 - I was a bit worried going into this class because I had no prior background knowledge on Christianity. But, Dr. Holleyman is such a great professor that this did not hinder my performance in the class at all. When I took this course, it was comprised of 2 quizzes each week, 3 exams, and a final. Dr. Holleyman truly does care for the success and well-being of each of his students. I took a lot out of this class, and I wish that I could have him as a professor again.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - Dr. Holleyman is an AMAZING professor. Many people I know complained about their scriptures class and professor but Dr. Holleyman is just wonderful. He has a solid faith and really knows what he's talking about in class. He doesn't assign much homework. We have 2 easy quizzes a week just over a couple chapters of reading from the BIBLE, (not some book about religion) one short essay (only 3 pages) and 4 multiple choice exams. Thats it. For the entire class. Of course, you have to study for the exams but if you go to SI (which is super helpful in this class) and listen in class you'll be fine. I highly recommend you TAKE HIS CLASS.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - Dr. Holleyman is a great lecturer and I learned a lot from his class. I didn't really like a lot of his opinions on the bible, but maybe that's just me because a lot of people seemed to like him. I would recommend this class purely because you get an S.I. and you should definitely take advantage of this. There's a quiz every class period and the tests aren't too bad. The thing that really threw my grade off was the essay, and the TAs never really explained what I did wrong, which was pretty annoying. Be aware that Dr. Holleyman also teaches scriptures to religion majors, and he doesn't change the lecture all that much for non-religion majors because of the S.I. and that's not something I knew at the beginning of the semester. However, this class is very informative and I walked away learning a lot.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:REL1310 - (Scriptures) - Dr. Holleyman is an amazing professor. He teaches the class for religion majors so he really knows what he is talking about. Because of this, there is an SI for this class which I thought was SUPER helpful. There are 3 tests and then the final. If you go to SI enough she will give a test review which was how I studied for the tests. The tests are based solely on his lectures. There is a reading and quiz you have to do before each class so you have context for the day's lecture. It usually isn't that long of a passage and if you actually read the quizzes should be a piece of cake. We had to write 2 essays which weren't too terribly difficult and he gives plenty of time to do them. I really enjoyed Dr. Holleyman's class and you could tell he was really passionate and knowledgable about what he is teaching. I would definitely recommend him!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2019-12-19

Comments: 1310 - Holleyman is a wonderful professor! His lectures are very interesting and insightful. The course is completely lecture based and he will not test on something he did not talk about. That being said, make sure to stay on top of your notes and don't let the test sneak up on you. I think the best way to do this is going to SI. SI helps review and highlight the relevant material, making studying for the test a lot easier. If you attend enough SI sessions, you will have access to the test reviews which are very helpful. Holleyman truly cares about his students and is a clear lecturer, he is not boring at all. I highly recommend.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - Dr. Holleyman was a great professor in teaching the material and aiding students in learning. He is a great guy and was very passionate about religion and the bible and brought guest speakers in twice for us that spoke about a particular book of the bible. The guest speakers were a nice change of pace and were something that everyone enjoyed. The biggest knock on Holleyman for me was the tests and workload. The tests were way harder than a lot of other religion classes and I was struggling to make a B average on the tests even after hours of studying. He tests only on lecture which is somewhat of an advantage but I took extensive notes (Over 70 pages) and still struggled in during tests. What saved me and my grade was the SI. GO TO SI! I pulled a B+ in this class literally only because of the SI and it becomes SUPER helpful down the line in the later tests when the content gets confusing. Word of warning, the first test is usually the wakeup call for most students, I got a 73 (after extensive studying) and I had multiple friends get under the 60s. The quizzes are basically meant to boost your grade in this class and they are "take-home" on canvas where you have a day or two to complete them after doing the assigned reading. What worked best for me on the quizzes was underlining while I was reading, I usually never annotate but it took a couple 4/6's for me to understand that annotation in this class is very helpful. Don't discount the quizzes because they are only out of 6, they add up quickly and can save your grade if you ace them all. Overall, Holleyman is a great teacher but many struggle in his class because of the tests. Be prepared to take lots of notes and earn your grade because it won't come easy for most people. If you are looking to learn a lot about the bible take this class but it is no way an easy A.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1310 - TAKE HIM!!! I LOVEEEDDDD his class! I went into the class not knowing much about scriptures and he broke down the material so well that it made it very easy to learn. The class consists of online timed quizzes (8 minutes/6 questions) every night before class over the bible. The quizzes were really easy and you can find the answers without reading. He tests strictly over in class notes so I advise taking computer notes and typing EVERYTHING HE SAYS. He does not post the powerpoints so make sure you take good notes! The class did require studying and it is one of the most challenging Scriptures class but Holleyman makes it SOOOO doable and he's a WONDERFUL man I promise you'll be happy you took him over other Scriptures professors! There is an SI for the course. The final was "cumulative" with 75% being over the New Testament and 25% being over the Old Testament. TAKE HIM! If you don't know much about Scripture he WILL break it down for you so it's easier to understand! If you do know a lot about Scripture I advise you to walk in willing to learn and don't trust that you already know everything about the stories. I had friends who learned Scripture throughout their whole lives and they struggled because their old information affected the new information.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - Dr. Holleyman is an excellent professor and all-around great guy. I loved taking him for scriptures. He's a no nonsense kind of guy because he deeply cares about the subject matter, but the class is very doable. He saw this class as an opportunity to spread the Word to those who do not know it without being forceful. It was more of a history class than anything, with a few tangential sermons thrown in here and there. I would take this class again.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:REL 1310 - Dr. Holleyman is the BEST! Despite not being a religion major (I am undecided, but it's one of the things I'm considering), taking his section of Scriptures for NSE majors was absolutely the best. He is kind, engaging, funny, a good professor, knowledgeable about the material, and willing to work with us students. As a part of the NSE component, we had 5 dinners as his house throughout the semester, and he was such a gracious host, very welcoming and truly wanting to get to know each student. The class material is pretty straightfoward, there are four tests (including the final), daily quizzes over the Bible reading, and chapter synopsis summaries at the end of each section. Not an unfair amount of work at all, the reading isn't too time consuming or difficult. We also wrote a few papers (one book report and one exegesis paper) but as long as you don't wait until the last minute (ie the night before ) to write a super long paper, you'll be fine. Overall, would 10/10 recommend taking Dr. Holleyman. He is the best !!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - GREATEST PROFESSOR AT BAYLOR ~ Dr. Holleyman will help you with anything you need. His class may be somewhat difficult, with many complex themes you have to work to understand, but he is by far one of the best religion professors. He finds a way, even in a class of 240, to connect with you personally and enjoys sharing bits about himself as the semester goes on. There are three tests and a final. The homework is simply reading the Bible and Canvas quizzes. Really enjoyed this class because of Holleyman!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - Great professor. He cares deeply about the material and his students, even in a class of 240. He makes the material interesting and is a super funny southern man. The only textbook in this class was the Bible, which I appreciated, and the only homework assignments were easy 6 question reading quizzes (open-bible). He dropped the lowest 3 quiz grades. Take really good notes and go to SI and his tests won't be a problem for you. Great class and I wouldn't have wanted any other professor.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Rel 1310 - Going into this semester I never once read the bible. That's pretty much all this class is, which is why I was very nervous going into the class. Our only assignments are reading the bible and taking short online quizzes twice a week. Dr. Holleyman is an amazing man, he is so funny and a really nice guy. He is super passionate about religion and his class, however, his class is pretty difficult. He is the only religion professor with an SI due to how hard his class is. I got As on the first two tests because they were fairly vague, focusing more on just the storyline. The third test, over the gospels, was the hardest one for me. It was very detailed and specific about the differences of the gospels, so I struggled with it. Most students did fine on this test though. His final was about 50/50. Half of it being about storyline half of it being super detailed. Overall, I love Dr. Holleyman he was a great teacher, but his class was very difficult for me, and I struggled to understand why we need to know and learn about pointless bible facts that we (non-religion majors) will never need to use (such as authors of the books, dates, etc). I do believe for those who have read the bible before coming to this class (especially if you have read it multiple times), you will be fine.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1310 - great professor! his exams are over his seminars so take good notes. It is a hard class ( only made the grade I did due to having pneumonia on exam day) but other than that one each exam was pretty easy and Holleyman was great!  - Grade In Class:C+

Date: 2018-11-15

Comments:1310 - Dr. Holleyman is the most amazing man. And this is the most amazing class. I learned so much about scripture and he would often give mini sermons at the end of his lesson to close class that would give me chills and sometimes tear up. The workload is pretty average: you have reading quizzes over passages in the bible, and occasional reading questions that weren't terrible. The test is based on his lectures only. Going to SI was super helpful in studying for the tests. Also, go to his office and look over your tests to see you what you missed, and look at them all again before the final bc a lot of the questions were repeated. AND just go to his office and talk to this man in general, he is so kind and I just can't express how great he is. The class size is 240, and so worth it, because the way he teaches the Word makes it so much more meaningful! TAKE HIM!!! Do not settle for taking anyone else!!!!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2018-05-02

Comments:REL1310 - I have a biblical background and grew up in private school. If you think you can just remember the stories, you're wrong. If you're like me, he will challenge you because he asks for details on tests. The homework quizzes aren't difficult, however his tests are another story. If you read all the assigned reading, you should be fine. The tests are multiple choice, however his multiple choice isn't "easy". An example of this would be during the Gospels test, he will give you a list of the Gospels for every answer choice, fair but difficult. Take notes BY HAND. You will remember less if you take them on the computer. Go to the SI as much as possible, even if you know the material. Study your notes for the test and use the SI review sessions. Tests can be difficult, but don't get discouraged, just be sure to read and take notes in class.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2018-01-15

Comments:1310 - Holleyman is a great professor. Even though the class is 240 people, he still found 30 minutes to talk with me after class. Never miss a lecture, and participate when you get a chance. Go to SI!! Helps a lot.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - Coming into Scriptures, I had no idea what to expect. Holleyman made it so fun though! He's such an engaging lecturer that I didn't mind having to actively take notes during class. The reading quizzes were really easy, and the 2 "essays" he assigns took about an hour each. His tests are very fair and based almost solely on his lectures. Definitely take him if you can!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2017-12-13

Comments:1310 - I ABSOLUTELY love Dr. Holleyman! Honestly one of the best professors I have had at Baylor. You can tell that this man loves Religion and loves the Lord. He made sure to add in a little bit of a sermon into the stories of the Bible we were learning about and he would also use situations us college students would experience to help us envision what it would be like for us to be in the situations of the people in the Bible. He is so welcoming and friendly. I went in to look at one of my tests and after I looked it over and was about to leave, he started talking to me about where I was from and I could tell that he honestly wanted to know his students personally. His tests can be a little more challenging but they are not impossible to get an A on! His powerpoints are outlines of what he is discussing so make sure to write down what he says as well as the outline that is on the screen. Even though I was in his big 240 person section, I felt like he did an amazing job of letting us know he was always available to help! Wish I could take his class again! TAKE DR. HOLLEYMAN!!!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - Awesome teacher. Very nice guy kept things interesting. All you have to do is do the reading and you will pass with flying colors. He goes on tangents in class sometimes but they are always interesting. I would recommend taking him to anyone.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - Holleyman ROCKS!! He is engaging and super funny. You have to take a quiz before every class but as long as you read the 4-5 chapters (which takes a total of 10 minutes maybe) you're going to do great. Tests can get fairly specific but all the material is from his lecture so just pay attention and take notes. I HIGHLY recommend Holleyman TAKE HIM!!!!!!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:REL - Holleyman is an amazing teacher. Although I got a B, I really learned so much about the Old Testament that I never even knew about. Definitely take him if you get the chance. And if you have trouble on the tests then go to the SI's because they help a ton.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:Scriptures - I LOVE THIS MAN. It's so easy to do well if you just put the time in. I had no background but got nearly 100%s on his exams but I'm one of the few people who ACTUALLY read. Honestly, it's not that difficult to read the bible y'all (no matter what your background is) so if you just suck it up and read a little you will do well. Holleyman expalins everything EXTREMELY WELL and is so caring for his class. Even though this is a survey class, he still manages to ask thought provoking questions and make you consider your own beliefs more in depth. TAKE HIM.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:4374 - What can be said about Holleyman that hasn't already been said? He's authentic, genuine, and extremely caring. This class can be difficult if you don't do the readings, but if you do, you should be fine. Three books to read (one of which you do a book report about) is pretty much the only homework outside of studying. All exams are short-answers/essays, but he grades fairly. If you know the stuff, you'll be fine.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2480 - Dr. Holleyman is the best Religion professor at Baylor. YOU HAVE TO TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN! The only reason this class is a bit of work is the internship built into the course. Holleyman listens extremely well, and it seems as if he learns with you rather than teach at you. if you are interested in ministry (vocational or not), take this class and take Holleyman.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - Great professor, gives alot of extra credit, tests are easy and straight forward, he does not go into debt. Essays are grade on the hard side but they are such a small part of your grade that it doesn't really matter. Do all the extra credit! It will boost your grade like 5 points. Ex: 90 to 95. I did all the EC so didn't have to study for the final, made a solid A. (96)  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - The kindest guy ever, you'll love him! He reminded me of an older Matthew Mcconaughey. He tries to make his lectures enjoyable, but the material can get kind of boring. His quizzes are online and are about the reading. Knowing the reading is key in doing well on the tests. His tests are fair, some of the questions can be confusing, but you will do well if you study the material and the notes. The two papers are kind of annoying, but barely worth anything for your grade, so it's not something to worry about. The final is comprehensive, so study EVERYTHING. He'll give you a basis on what will be on the final too. Overall, he's a great professor and I'd recommend him. He's definitely better than most. Take his class!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - Dr. Holleyman is great and very engaging! We had readings due every class and had 19 six question quizzes over the readings. He only tests you over things discussed in class. Pay attention in class and copy his slides and you will do fine on tests. Straightforward class and great professor.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:REL 1310 - Hands down the best professor I've ever had. He really cares about his students and wants them to succeed. Since he was a pastor before he became a professor, he often gave us little mini sermons at the end of each class that were very encouraging. If you can get in Holleyman's class, do it!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - Dr. Holleyman is my favorite professor at Baylor. He cares so much about his students, that in a lecture group of 300 students, he takes the time to memorize everyone's name before class. He explains the gospels so well, and loves to answer questions about anything that is in the Bible. His tests are not difficult if you study for them, and he tells you before the test what to study for. SI sessions are really helpful for this class, just to memorize different parts of his lectures. If you have the chance to take Dr. Holleyman, I'm sure he too will be one of your favorite people.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Christian Heritage - Holleyman is the Man. He could be boring at times but thats somewhat due to the material. He still taught passionately and could get us to laugh when he wanted. His tests weren't easy but weren't hard. Take Holleyman if you get the chance!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:REL 1310 - Incredible professor. I describe him to everyone I know as the perfect mixture of a theologian, a preacher, and a grandfather. He is a very kind, wonderful person who is extremely engaging and I loved every minute of his lectures. Don't miss class because it's super important for his tests! And make sure you do the quizzes. This is a great class with a great professor. Take him!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - Dr. Holleyman is gold. He makes every topic understandable and applicable. Do the readings (its the Bible, its good for you) and take notes over his powerpoints. Going to SI is super important and very beneficial. Holleyman offers extra credit toward the end of the semester which can really help boost your grade, but if you really study, you may not even need it. This man is great, take him.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - Dr. Holleyman is my favorite thing about Baylor so far, hands down. He is passionate about what he teaches, which makes learning from him inspiring. I highly recommend you go introduce yourself to him during his office hours and get to know him. If your struggling in the class or struggling spiritually he is caring and wise. If I could tell an incoming student to Baylor anything, it would be to make sure you take Dr. Holleyman.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - Dr Holleyman is super awesome. His lectures were at a great pace that made note-taking easy and very doable. I'm very glad I had him for my Scriptures professor. The quizzes were at home and the reading wasn't ever too much to do. Highly recommend this class.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - I could not have asked for a better professor to have first semester than Dr. Holleyman!!! Three semesters later and he is still my favorite professor. I always left his class feeling like I was leaving a sermon. I dare you to find a sweeter man who cared more about the well-being of his students than this man. I absolutely loved going to his class. He is extremely qualified for his job. You definitely had to take notes in class, so pay attention! He doesn\'t make study guides or post the powerpoint online, so it is vital that you pay attention in class and take good notes! His tests are on the harder side and he writes them the week before, so don\'t think your friends with other professors have the same tests. Just study, and you\'ll be fine! If you don\'t think you need to study a detail, go ahead and study it. I absolutely loved this class and loved this professor!!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310.15 - Professor Holleyman is the BEST person and a pretty great teacher! He does lecture for most of the class, but it's easy to take notes from his PowerPoints and he makes it easy to outline and retain! I'd recommend going to SI because, regardless of the professor, Christian Scriptures is A LOT to remain, and SI really helps! Overall, Professor Holleyman is an amazing, caring person and you should take his class!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:REL 1310 - Here's the deal. Holleyman is good. He's an old, southern professor that clearly knows what he's talking about. Don't miss his class though. His lectures are kind of hard to follow and his tests (for me anyway) are always harder than I anticipate. His tests are all multiple choice but he loves giving you questions where one of the answer choices is D) A and B but Not C I study for hours and I go to every SI. Blaise is our SI and he's outstanding but the fall of 2015 trimester is the last one he'll be teaching the SI. If you fall asleep or miss class you're done for. Lectures are 110% of what the tests are over. I myself haven't had a very deep christian upbringing so I was at a bit of a disadvantage to others in my class and I'm not the best note taker, but if you can pay attention for an hour and a half, can take really good notes, and study those notes there's no reason you can't get an A in his class. Also try and participate in his class. It may be intimidating in a class of 175 kids but the more you talk, the more he gets to know you and he'll look out for you in the future. Holleyman is definitely not an "easy" professor but he is a good professor.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1310 - I appreciated how insightful and interested he seemed in the course material. I found the material we covered to be quite interesting, myself, and felt that his personal stories and illustrations worked well to drive home the messages he was emphasizing. I think Holleyman's exams (multiple choice) were harder than they needed to be, but the almost-daily online quizzes were a breeze. During my semester, he didn't require a standard translation of the Bible, he only mentioned which one he used, in order to help our understanding. Overall I'd recommend this course. He provided clear details about what he expected, and truly dove into his material. According to the rumors I've heard, he also appears to be one of the most relaxed Christian Scriptures profs at Baylor.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:REL 1310 - Holleyman is awesome! His class is all lecture based so each test is stuff that he covered in class. The tests are multiple choice. The quizzes are online and they are based on the reading. He drops some quizzes. You have to write two papers for the class but they are super short and easy. He is so passionate about the scriptures and loves what he teaches. His class is not easy, but he is wonderful and so willing to help. He makes class interesting. The SI helps a ton as well! TAKE HOLLEYMAN!!!  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:REL 1310 - Eric Holleyman is the greatest. He's really funny and relatable and I wish we were personal friends. He explains things really well too. There are easy online quizzes before every class and the test questions are straight from the lecture. Take him. Also his SI Blaise is a genius and so helpful  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - Dr. Holleyman is an incredible lecturer and does a fantastic job of engaging with the class. His power points can be difficult to understand if you don't write down contextual clues and other information he gives in lecture and exams are fairly difficult, however, he is very intentional about doing his best to help you and making sure class is an enjoyable experience for everyone. If you keep up with the material and study well for exams, you will really enjoy his class. He also offers a lot of available bonus points by only counting 13/16 quizzes. If you do all 16 all the extra points are just bonus.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Religion 1301 - Amazing teacher, take his class! He cares about his students and undersatnds that not everyone at Baylor is a Christain. If you have questions about the Bible and Christianity take his class. Mulitple choice homework quizes at least twice a week. Tests are multiple choice and you need to study. Write down EVERYTHING he says and go to SI. You can not skip class if you want to do well. He gives lots of extra credit oppertunities but you have to write a one page paper.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - I'm so glad I got Dr. Holleyman for Christian Scriptures! He has been a pastor at a few churches and really knows what he's talking about and is a great speaker. He reminds me of an older Matthew McConaughey. He is very organized and has been teaching the class for a while, so he knows how to do it. He teaches off powerpoints which is what the tests are usually based on. There is no textbook other than the Bible, which is nice. There's reading due for every class, but it usually doesn't take long. There are 16 five question quizzes over the reading that are the beginning of class, and he drops 4 of them. The tests aren't horrible, if you just look over the notes from class and know them well, you'll be fine. There are extra credit assignments at the end of the semester if you need them. Overall, I enjoyed this class and learned a lot without putting in a ton of effort.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - Dr. Holleyman teaches The Christian Scriptures about as well as anybody can. I was in his smaller class this semester, and he actually cared about each and every student. Weekly quizzes over the readings are not too hard. The tests were challenging but he prepared us well for them. Test was half lecture and half reading. Tests were multiple choice, first test had some short answer but he got rid of it for the remaining three tests. He will teach the class as a history course, not a literature course. Would absolutely take this course again!  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:REL 1310 - Dr. Holleyman's lectures are extremely interesting. I am changed every time I attend his class. The quizzes before the class begins are quite difficult, but the exams are all based on his lecture, so make sure to write down every word he says. He speaks the Bible as if he was there. I highly recommend Dr. Holleyman for any religion course at Baylor. All exams and quizzes are multiple choice, and there is also a small research paper that is graded by the TA, so it is graded basically on whether you completed it or not.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1310 - TAKE HIM!!! I loved him so much. His teaching ability was great. There are quizzes every night, but they only take about an hour, compared to a lot of other teachers who assigned crazy amounts of homework. I learned so much in his class, and he was the best teacher I could have asked for on the subject. Not only that, but he was also very interesting which can be difficult in a Scriptures class  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - Pretty good class overall, and a lot better than other intro religion classes, from what me and my friends talked about. As long as you do the readings, things are pretty straightforward. Not going to rock your world if you've know your bible, but he provided good insight alot of the time. Would recommend if you need to take Scriptures.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2013-12-09

Comments:1310 - Holleyman is a great professor. I did not hear good things about taking religion at Baylor but I am so thankful I had such a good professor. Definitely do the readings, they are not that long unless you leave them for last minute and then you don't even understand what you're reading, which will cost you on the exams. He tells you exactly what will be on the exams but you should know that he doesn't give you the answers so if you didn't take notes....you're not going to do well on them. We had an SI instructor for our class, if you get one TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT! It was so helpful! My grade went up from a C to an A on the exams after just two SI sessions. I really like how he takes the meaning of the scriptures and presents it to his class so that we are able to relate to it and have a more in depth understanding of the readings.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - Scriptures - This class was fairly easy for me. He didn't require any textbook but the Bible, and there was minimal reading (compared to other classes), usually between 3-12 chapters per class. There was an online quiz for almost every reading, and he drops some of the quiz grades. Other than that, I believe there were 4 tests. The tests are fairly straightforward, but there were always a couple of questions that were confusing. He did use a curving system for the tests though. His TAs graded a short research paper over a book of the Bible. The paper was annoying to write, but I would rather have to write it than do all the reading some of my friends in other classes had to do. Make sure to go to SI, the test review sessions were invaluable. His lecturers were average. He has a rough outline on powerpoint (you need to focus notes on what he says)but will not post them to blackboard. I would recommend him for Scriptures any day!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Scriptures - Dr. Holleyman is great professor. He helped me so much. It was my first semester at Baylor and it is definitely proved to be challenging. I got mono around February and have dealing with it till late April. So since I had him for an 8am it meant I was late to class. So I missed too many quizzes. Along with poor test grades that's how I ended up with a D. But I probably would have failed if Mr. Holleyman hadn't helped me out. I will probably retake the class and I wouldn't mind having him again. He has a lot of quizzes only 5 pts each very easy if you read. And there are 4 exams. They were definitely hard but if you go to the SI meetings and study a little every day you should do well. There is only one essay and it is really simple. Take this class if you like straightforward teaching and a professor willing to help. Also exchange notes and compare because they help you the most on the tests.  - Grade In Class:D

Comments:1310 - Wonderful teacher and a great speaker. His powerpoints lead him through the lecture, but do not define his lecture by any means. Do not go into his class thinking that your Sunday school knowledge will get you through. Study your notes, and go to the SI reviews. Not an easy A by any means, but it is an attainable A with effort.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - Christian Scriptures: Dr. Holleyman is a great teacher. He lectures from a powerpoint, but this does not mean his class is boring. Holleyman tells the most interesting (but relevant) stories. The class varies in difficulty depending on the knowledge of the Bible you bring into the course. Don't expect this to be a Sunday School class though. It is an academic approach to the Bible (although Holleyman teaches it from a Christian perspective and will make it relevant). There are quizzes before every class over assigned readings. They are incredibly easy if you are familiar with the Bible. I was able to skip the reading for several (but I came back to haunt me on the tests...). Holleyman is some combination of that one really cool grandfather, that excellent, entertaining preacher you heard that one time, and that one mysterious old guy that seems to have been at every major historical event in the past century. And they don't lie when they say he has a cool voice. The tests aren't too difficult. He usually curves them pretty generously. Take good notes and study some. The SI's are good but occasionally overkill. The final is "semi-cumulative": it is mainly a test over the most recent unit with maybe 10 to 20 relatively easy questions from old exams. That said don't underestimate it. There is one research paper. I spent maybe 2 or 3 hours on it total (including research, writing and proofing) and made a mid A. You learn a lot with minimal effort. Take Holleyman  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - I have no idea how anyone gets below a B in this class. I definitely am not someone who was at the top of my class in high school but this class was still really enjoyable. The material is made as interesting as it can be made and Holleyman is super sweet. He sounds just like Matthew McConaughey and is just as charming. The quizzes are a breeze and he won't test you over anything he doesn't talk about in class. His quizzes and single paper are simply to raise your grade. His tests are a little tricky so in class, you need to write down everything he says. Also, I didn't go to the SIs but I would do the test reviews and they helped SO much. I definitely suggest his class and going to the SIs.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1350 - He has an okay teaching style, but if you're generally not interested in religion or have little to no background in the Christian teachings (not everyone at Baylor is Christian, just a reality check) then he is not the teacher for you.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:Christian Scriptures - Dr. Holleyman wa a true blessing for me. Not coming from a very religious background, his class clarified a lot for people of all backgrounds. He clearly knows what he deems important and does a great job teaching it. The lectures can be long but he tries to crack a few jokes here and there. There is a lot of reading in the class but if you keep up with it, his tests are very easy and stick to his lectures and his readings. He also had a wonderful SI named Whitney who held study sessions and was a great help! I would recommend him to all students  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - I took Holleyman over the summer for my first Baylor course, and it was definitely a great choice to start off my college experience with. He consistently kept class engaging and interesting. Since we only had 5 weeks to complete what regular semesters do in about 15 we covered more material per day than usual, however I don't feel as if we were overloaded or that we lost out on pertinent material. Holleyman incorporates personal stories and common cultural experiences into his lectures, which allowed me to remain more attentive. He is always available to help and quick to respond via email. Homework is light and manageable (typically just a few chapters from the Bible a night and his tests are strictly based off of the biblical passages covered in class (no trick questions).  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - Dr. Holleyman is definitely in the go-to instructor for this course. As boring as the material may seem, he makes it rather interesting and teaches it with enthusiasm. He is very approachable and willing to answer concerns or questions that you would have. The quizzes that you have to take are all online and are simply for the purpose of free points to help your grade. Even the research paper that you have to write is easy, just follow the instructions that he gives you and you'll do fine. The exams are purely based on his lectures and are by no means trying to trick you. Just take good notes from his power points and pay attention to things that he emphasizes and says repeatedly. Comments:REL 1310 - Dr. Holleyman was one of my favorite professors. He teaches well and always has great insight into what he is teaching. He has a way of making you understand Scripture better, which is helpful since that's what the class covers. The quizzes are VERY easy (IF you do the reading), and the tests are also easy (IF you take good notes, not just what is on the powerpoint slides). He isn't the kind of professor to try and trip you up, but he is also not the kind of professor to just hand you an A. I definitely recommend him.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Scripture - Love his class. It was so interesting. Though I could of done a lot better if I did the reading and extra credit. So if you do take him, do the readings. Comments:REL 1310 - Took the class a time before and didn't care much for school and did terrible. I retook it with Holleyman and did ok. The quizzes are simple and online so you can use your notes and possibly use Bible? The test are pretty easy in comparison with other professors, but make sure you study what he says and lectures about in class. He uses pp presentations which is helpful in taking notes. He is a pretty nice guy and cares about teaching rather than being a stuck up douce bag like some profs that teach big classes. I would suggest his class to incoming freshmen who are unsure of college, he will work with you. Nice guy, enjoyed the class and stretched my mind.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:1310 - Dr. Holleyman is awesome. Its an okay class grade-wise as long as you take all the notes down and go to SI. You shouldn't have a problem getting an A if you study well. The tests can become quite difficult as the year progresses, because they become more detailed. Keeps the class interested (at least for me) with stories and jokes. He doesn't post the powerpoint anywhere so you have to show up to class if you want to do well. Homework is easy. Several chapters from the Bible, and easy online quizzes. You don't need to be an over-achiever to do well in this class, but you can't slack either. There are also many easy opportunities for extra credit. I never went in to his office for help, but he is a very approachable professor and I'm sure would be glad to help out in any way.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Christian Scriptures - Holleyman is a nice guy, but not a fun teacher. He is very very very dry! He also uses the Bible as a textbook and not as a gospel. I know that I learned so much from his course, but be warned. He is not easy. In fact, this was the second hardest class I had. He has a quiz per a class and tests that cover prior tests. The quizzes hardly apply to the tests. If you are good with notes, then this class should be easy. If not, you’re dead. I’m not at all against Christian classes, I love them. I went to a Christian high school but have never had so much work or been stressed out with the Bible. Take at your own risk.  - Grade In Class:B

His test are all multiple choice. For his test make sure you know all the details of the readings that he gives you. He gives quizes which are easy as long as you read. All in all I enjoyed him as a professor. I waited til the last minute to study for the test and 99% of the time did all the readings the night before the test(I do not recommend using this method). I went to his office to look over it, and he ended up telling me how I thought I studied, and asking me how I think I'll study better next time, and offered me advice and whatnot. I didn't have a computer, and that made taking notes in class rather difficult because there was so much information. The online quizzes were easy, and they really helped to boost my grade. I wish I would have been able to attend the SI sessions. I should have done all of the extra credit opportunities, too. I just didn't care enough about this class; I know I could have done better. I dozed off a lot in his lectures because they weren't that interesting except maybe a handful of times. Took notes on my computer and it was helpful because he can say a LOT. The online quizzes are so easy and a great way to get points for your grade. Do the extra credit assignments where you go to an outside lecture and write a one page summary. Very easy. But the tests take a lot of studying. Even when I studied a lot, I seemed to only be confident about maybe 60% of the test. You write one essay and it's graded by the TA. I barely got a B, but I was very happy to come out with that by how poorly I did on the tests being always around 70s. He's alright, but the class subject is boring.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:Scriptures - Dr Holleyman is an amazing teacher. He is helpful and very knowledgeable. If you want an easy A, this class isn't for you however. I worked really hard in that class and barely made an A but I enjoyed it a lot!   - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - He's an awesome professor. He does leave a lot of reading but he knows what he's talking about and tries his hardest to be entertaining, although he can get a bit boring at times. I would definitely recommend him  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1305 - if it wasnt for the extra credit and the kindness of dr holleyman i didnt deserve an A. I got a B on every test in class but on the first tests i got a 100. I studied hard and worked hard but still couldnt get the good grades, but holleyman was understanding and help bump me   - Grade In Class:A

Comments:REl 1310 - RUN! RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!!! Boring as hell. Tons of reading though I'm pretty sure every religion class is like that. Online quizzes that are super easy-you MUST read the homework though bc the quizzes are timed. Tests were difficult. Focuses on minute details and characters that no one even needs to know. I've gone to church and Christian schools my entire life and yet still hadn't heard of most of the things we were talking about-and that's not in a "wow Ive never heard that before!" (excited tone)-no, more in a bored, frustrated "who cares" way. Again, class was sooo boring. My friend and I tried really hard to stay awake-even bought espresso shots to take right before class. Nothing helped. Take someone else. RUN, RUN FAST!  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:Christian Scriptures - AWESOME PROF!!!! I had a 78 in there emailed him because I had come to every class, and every SI. He gave me 2 points. Awesome teacher- learned a TON, cares about students and material. TAKE HIM TAKE HIM!  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:REL 1310 - I thought I would be at a disadvantage coming into this class since I am not Christian. Turns out, the class is just like a history class. Holleyman lectures about the subject with a passion and he was always mildly entertaining in class. For some reason though, I always fell asleep half-way. There are online quizzes which are fairly simple, but his tests are kind of hard. With some good studying, they are doable. He gives out a lot of extra credit so that makes up for any low test grade you make. My best advice is take advantage of every extra credit!!! I would recommend this professor for anyone taking Christian Scriptures!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - Dr. Holleyman is a great guy and funny, but I got so bored in his class. It may have been just a hard class to make interesting. The quizzes were super easy and you just do them on Blackboard before class, which was really nice. The tests were pretty hard, but not unreasonable. I think there are definitely better religion professors out there, I recommend Moseman, but if you can't get one of them, take Holleyman.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1310 - Dr.Holleyman is a great prof!!! Definately one of my favorites at Baylor! He's the nicest teacher I've ever had and he really cares about his students! His tests seem hard at first but you just have to study harder. I went from having a C to an A by the end of the semester because of extra credit which helped my grade because of my first test. Take Holleyman!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - Dr. Holleyman is an AWESOME teacher. How well you take notes will determine how well you do in class. His tests come straight from the notes you take in class, so make sure to pay attention. He has online quizzes that are easy, but make sure you have some idea of the readings because it will help come test time. TAKE HIM FOR CHRISTIAN SCRIPTURES!!!  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:Rel 1310 - Dr. Holleyman is the best professor I have ever had. Not only is he so sweet but the class is super easy and tests are not bad at all. Holleyman is very helpful and let me go in and see my old tests before midterm and final which was super nice! Since you have to take this course sometime during your time at Baylor I highly highly recommend him, you can't find anyone better!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - Dr. Holleyman is a great teacher. He is very flexible if you need to make an out of class appointment. If you take good notes and come to class you should do fine. STUDY STUDY!! At least a week before tests. If you don't understand, ask questions. Take Holleyman, he's great and he knows what he is talking about.   - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1301 - Dr. Holleyman, GREAT professor! His lectures are usually interesting, the man knows his bible. Attend classes regularly and do the assigned reading. Take Holleyman for Christian Scriptures, well worth it!  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2009-11-17

Comments:Religion 1310 - Holleyman's an awesome teacher. I knew nothing about the Bible before I took the class and he made it easy to understand. The HW wasn't that bad at all, he really doesn't read the responses, just checks if you got the gist and made it long enough. The tests are progressively hard. The first one is the easiest and so on and so forth but he has review sessions where you can go in and ask questions. Essentially, if you fail, it's for a lack of applying yourself.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1310 scriptures - This man is amazingly awesome. I never thought i would love going to his class everyday. The grading is fair but his tests are hit or misses. Half the class gets very low grades and the other half gets 100s, its a mystery why it was like that. I was in the middle though i only got a high A on the first test, and then a mid to low B on everything after that. The first test is very easy then everything else becomes harder so if you screw up the first test DROP the class. There is an essay and its really easy if you get lucky and the SI grades it. His name was Matt and he was cool, i basically became friends with the guy at the end of the semester, and he tries his best to tell you whats on the tests. There is lots of extra credit, i got like 35 points extra credit at the end of the semester which is how i got an A. It basically turned my test grades into As. There is extra credit for attendance, so make sure you show up everyday. He doesnt talk about it at all but at the end of the semester you find out about that rule. Hollyman himself is a bad ass he grew up in a hick town and seems like he was the only smart man there so he likes to tell stories about it.   - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - Dr. Holleyman was a great teacher! If you just make sure he knows who you are and that you're willing to learn, he'll help you out a lot. He had reading quizzes almost every class, and he took the highest 15 grades of these quizzes at the end of the semester so that if you missed a few, or you didn't read then those grades will drop. The tests were pretty hard, but if you studied hard enough, then they were manageable (all multiple choice). He assigned no homework besides reading and studying. I didn't read a single time and I still managed a B+. Overall, Dr. Holleyman is a really nice guy and I definitely recommend him!  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2009-06-09

Comments:1310 - Professor Holleyman is a good lecturer. He made me rethink alot of my thoughts about the Bible and always knew how to condense the material in the bible to fit his lectures. I loved how he ended his lectures with key conclusions that apply to Christianity today. His tests are easy if you already know alot about the scriptures; If you just started thoroughly reading the Bible, study hard! Sometimes he gives curves too. I recommend him.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2009-05-20

Comments:scriptures - he was a good teacher. I got bored towards the end but most of his lectures were fairly interesting. I have read the bible before but some of the things that he said were a new way for me to think about the text. The tests were super easy, other than the gospel test and the essay was a piece of cake. I did it the night before and barely paid attention to it and still got a 98. he also offers 40 points of extra credit so he makes it really easy for you to make an A.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2009-05-14

Comments:scriptures - Excellent guy. I'm not a Christian and I was dreading having to take religion but I really enjoyed this class. Most of his lectures were very interesting. His quizzes and test are almost unfairly easy. The research paper is graded really easy (I made a perfect score even though it was far from perfect). Take him, you won't regret it.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2009-05-13

Comments:1310 - Dr. Holleyman is hilarious. His lectures can get dry, but he always throws in funny stories or sexual innuendos. He's easy to work with and you always know what's going to be on the test. He's really passionate about the bible which is cool. I definitely recommend him, but you HAVE to do the readings. If you do, your grade will be super padded (easy A). If you don't, you'll probably fail. Take him and do the reading!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2009-05-12

Comments:1310 - Very nice guy but not a great teacher for Christian Scriptures if you have never studied the Bible before. There are quizzes on the assigned readings and if there are more than 12 during the semester he will only take the top 12 scores into consideration when doing final grades. There is a research paper due which is, in my opinion, difficult and is graded by the TA. His exams are tricky because he likes to make all of the possible answers look exactly a like. The final is not comprehensive...only on the New Testament. There is extra credit available. Overall, difficult class if you haven't studied the Bible before.   - Grade In Class:C

Date: 2009-05-04

Comments:1310 - Probably the only professor I found interesting in Baylor. He will cover all of the material that is going to be on the test. His lectures are very nice, and he loves teaching and the bible. There are daily-quizzes about the material that should be read the day before, but the questions are not hard, and if you don't read the material anyways, you will not pass the tests. His TA is really helpful as well and he gives practice exams that contain questions that appear on the test but not in the same words. Take Holleyman, really recommend it.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2009-04-22

Comments:REL 1310 - A good lecturer who covers all the material on the tests in class. He is very interesting to listen to and fun to talk to, and can be quite funny when he wants to. The tests are always multiple choice, so if you study your notes from class, you'll do fine. There is a research paper involved, and can be either easy or difficult depending on which book of the bible you choose. I chose Revelations and made a 70 because my interpretation was 'wrong,' so do yourself a favor and pick an easy book.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1310 - One of my favourite professors freshmen year, was coming in not expecting to do well as bio major, but enjoyed this class tremendously, don't let the big class size throw you off, still had a good relationship with Dr.Holleyman who is a very good teacher. All you need to do is take notes and it is a guaranteed A.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2009-01-11

Comments:1310 - Dr. Holleyman is a great teacher and I would definitely recommend him! Tests are all scantron and you do whatever writing assignments his TAs assign, which was just an easy research paper in my case. We had SI sessions with a TA but Dr Holleyman started offering weekly review sessions himself to help students who were struggling and he's willing to take time to get to know students. His lectures aren't always that exciting, but he throws in jokes every now and then to keep your attention and occasionally he might get on his soapbox about a subject. I stopped reading the texts eventually and played a game on my computer in class while I took notes, but I went to the SI sessions and reviewed my notes before tests and did just fine. Take him if you can!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2009-01-07

Comments:REL 1310 - Dr. Holleyman is an amazing teacher. He really cares about his students and makes a strong effort to help them succeed. If you just take good notes in class and attend SI sessions before each test, there is no reason you shouldn't make an A. His tests were all on scantron, and he required one easy-A research paper. He also allowed the use of 1 notecard with any information you wanted written on it to help you during the final exam. I strongly recommend taking Dr. Holleyman.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1305 - Dr. Holleyman is a great professor. He makes his lectures really interesting by adding personal stories. His tests are all multiple choice but cover a lot of material so they can be pretty hard. Going to the SI sessions is a must if you want to do well. Dr. Holleyman really cares about his students and wants them to do well, so he also led a separate review session one afternoon a week which was really helpful. It is really important to attend class each day because he doesn't put his notes online and the test material comes directly from the notes. There isn't much outside work except a short research paper and a little reading each night, but I made a B without ever reading. Holleyman is one of my favorite Baylor professors so far, so I would definitely recommend him!   - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2008-12-26

Comments:scriptures - Holleyman is a great guy! He always makes jokes during class and relates the stuff that he's teaching to modern events. There were a few extra credit oppurtunities and a research paper which pretty much helped everyone's grade. There were about 4 tests plus a midterm and the final. The tests were hard but not impossible... you definitely have to know what was discussed in class and do the reading. I know people who got C's in there but also people who got nearly 100's on every test.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2008-12-22

Comments:Scriptures - Holleyman was a great professor! Classes were quite large, but he did what he could to make it more personal. He was very sweet, gave thorough lectures, but didn't post the notes online, so being present is A MUST! He did give extra credit for attendace though, which helped. Reading is not neccessary to pass, but helps with comprehension. Tests were all MC but were pretty diffucult, but I made high Bs and As on all of them by studying the notes and attending extremely helpful SIs. The TAs were awesome! I highly recomend this class!   - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2008-12-21

Comments:1310 - Holleyman runs his class exactly how college professors should. It's a huge class, which is daunting at first, but it was actually nice because it meant I knew a bunch of people in the class to study with. His lectures cover everything you need to know, so reading isn't really necessary although if you do do the reading assignments it helps your knowledge, but toward the end I didn't and still did well. His tests are fair, and on the final he lets you have one index card on which you can write any notes you want. GO TO SI! it's really helpful! He also has several extra credit lecture opportunities and gives extra credit for perfect or near perfect attendance, so if you don't do so well on a test, you can redeem yourself that way.   - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2008-12-20

Comments:REL 1310 - Dr. Holleyman was the best lecturer I had. I really enjoyed listening to him; as far as difficulty, I'll be the first to say that his tests were tough. The first test was really easy, but they got harder after that. However, if you really understand the story chronologically that is being covered, you can figure out the tests well enough to make a B. I had no religious background going into this course and I was fine. I ended the class with a 94.8 average and had a 97 going into the final due to all the extra credit that he offered. I learned SO much. I would recommend Holleyman if you want to really learn your stuff. He is very fair; the tests are not insane. If you study right and go to SI, you'll make what you need. You truly do get out of this class what you put in.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2008-12-20

Comments:1310 - Dr. Holleyman does a good job presenting the material. His tests are mostly over his power points. However, he does NOT post these power points online, so show up to class! Also, read the assignments in the Bible before class. The readings make the power point info a lot clearer and more understandable. His multiple choice tests are doable if you become very familiar with/memorize the notes.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2008-12-17

Comments:REL 1310 - Dr. Holleyman is such a sweet man! I'll admit, I barely made an A in his class because the tests are SO hard, but with the research paper added in it wasn't too hard to do. Yes this class is difficult, but we're in college...school isn't supposed to be easy. Just make sure you take notes on literally EVERY word that he says, study them for the tests, and you should be fine!   - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - One of my favorite teachers!! I probably could have made a better grade if I didn't have him at 8:00 am on TR! hard to go to! I recommend him! I did a lot of studying for the tests and still didn't do too well on them but I do feel like I learned a lot. We only have 4 exams, a midterm, a final, and a research paper. I got a 91 on my paper but the class average but a B. He's a great teacher, I learned a lot.  - Grade In Class:C

Date: 2008-12-11

Comments:1301 - Holleyman is a really nice man and knows his subject inside and out... but i think he forgets that we DONT know this stuff as well as he does. His tests are ridiculously hard and I had a 68, went to every SI, did extra credit, and at the end he still wouldnt bump it to a C. Nice man but i would recommend taking Sadler or Bryant.  - Grade In Class:D

Comments:1310 - Great Religion teacher! He is incredibly helpful is you need it and is always open to talk if you have questions. The only homework really was 4 tests and one 3 page paper that we had 3 months to work on. super easy. Be sure to take notes- its all he tests over! Gives great extra credit for good attendance as well! Lectures can get a bit boring, but he's still fun and funny. TAKE!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:REL 1310 - Class isn't bad, just go, take notes, keep up. I want to commend him for something though. He was a preacher and I'm an atheist. On the last assignment of the year I wrote a paper about not believing in Jesus and he graded it in a fair and objective manner. Cannot say enough about him, a stand up guy.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - I had the big class, so I can't testify to how good his smaller classes are. He is a good, interesting lecturer, and his weekly quizzes are easy. The only required text is a Bible, and the tests are easy if you copy his powerpoints and read the night before.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:BIC 3358 - Dr. Holleyman taught the heritage sections of BIC Christian heritage/contemporary christian ethics. This class had a lot of discussions. I wasn't a big talker, but they only counted participation towards attendence and not how much one has talked, which I thought was really fair unlike a few other BIC classes that I was in. I tended to overstudy for the tests so I did pretty well, but this class does require a bit of work in a semester group project that is like 25% of the grade, a response paper everyday 20% midterm 20% and final 30%, 5% attendance. so you can't really afford to screw up on anything. But I believe that the Holleyman/McDaniel combo is the best!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - He is a great teacher and a funny, interesting guy. He has great analogies and metaphors for life which i found to be worth my time. As for his class, make sure you take notes and keep up with knowing the stories (who, what, where) in the bible for his tests. He is willing to help and SI is a must. If you had never opened a bible before his class (like me) then prepare fun time learning the entire bible in a semester!  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:Scriptures - TAKE HIM!!!! By far my favorite professor!!! He is so passionate about what he teaches. There is some reading, and you take quizzes, but the quizzes are a joke if you read. Comments:1310 - Dr. Holleyman can easily be considered one of my favorite professors ever! His lectures were excellent! I would definately suggest getting into one of his larger classes, as I'm pretty sure the work load is a bit lighter. All of our quizzes were online, and the tests were all objective. As long as you studied a decent amount it was really easy to pass all of the exams. Dr. Holleyman is definitely an excellent choice for anybody who's really interested in learning about scripture, and he's very passionate about what he teaches.   - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2008-01-15

Comments:REL 1310 - Dr. Holleyman is a fantastic professor. He's interested in what he's teaching, which is reflected in the course as a whole. No, you will not be able to simply take his exams and quizzes and receive an A. However, his tests are very fair provided that you've done the required reading and have studied. He provides a list of possible topics that will be tested on each exam, so studying these lists is a great place to start. If you're having problems in the class he's ready to meet and help with you. There are no major additional assignments (a couple of short papers) apart from the quizzes and tests. The quizzes are taken online, so you're able to use your Bible and any other notes. If you get behind on your reading, it becomes difficult to catch up; after the first few books of the Old Testament, about one book must be read for each class period. Overall, I'd highly recommend Dr. Holleyman. I consider myself "Bible-dumb" and I had no major problems with the course. I would definitely be taking him in the spring if he taught 1350.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2008-01-12

Comments:Christian Scriptures - Very passionate about his subject, though I cannot recommend him. He makes a required course waay too difficult. Tests were insanely hard, online quizzes and response papers weren't too bad. Incredibly nice and interesting guy, but unless your some crazy jesus crispy that just loves fables taught as fact, do not take this preacher. But most of baylor is baptist so go for it.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:1310 - if you can, get into his large class because the quizzes were online for our class, so you could use your bible. because it was a large class there was an si available, which was really helpful when it came to study for the tests. the tests can be tricky if you have not paid attention in class or taken good notes. overall there is not too much work, just a couple of short papers. he gives extra credit, which ends up helping out a lot. dr. holleyman knows what he is talking about and can actually be quite funny. i highly recommend him!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - I loved Scriptures class. Holleyman is a pretty good prof; if you listen during lectures, he thoroughly explains ideas/passages so they make complete sense. Its the listening part that's difficult; he's not the most engaging prof out there. His tests are challenging. I read nearly every book he assigned from the Bible, which helped a lot. His third test over the gospels is killer... I studied for days, read each book several times, made outlines, etc. This is really one of those classes where you only get as much out as you put in.   - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2007-10-22

Comments:BIC 3358 - Holleyman belongs behind a pulpit, not in a classroom. He is a very nice guy, but he is a little bit caught up in himself, and he gets excited making dramatic speeches in class that have nothing to do with the material.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2007-05-25

Comments:1310 - I had no prior religion background or knowledge. I studied very hard, attend all his lectures, did everything I could to do well in his class, but unfortunately that was not the case. Very nice professor, learned a lot, but exams were like no other except the 1st one.   - Grade In Class:D

Comments:1310 - He's a nice guy. Don't take the MW or TR class, so long and boring. You know how boring the class is when even your prof yawns a crap load during class. You have to take a ton of notes to do good and actually listen to his lecture. I got an A without reading the bible but I had to take pages of thorough notes. Be sure to do the EC and such to raise up your grade. Good prof, boring class unless you love your religion, which you should! Good way to study: look at your notes well and then go through the review to see which ones you missed in your notes. Good luck!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - This class is boring. He just reads off powerpoints and doesnt really add anything to the convo that you cant get off the slides. There are around 12 daily quizes online that are very difficult. I didnt like the fact that his grader was the person that we had to talk to first about almost anything!! Not cool, we pay for BU professors, NOT BU grads!!  - Grade In Class:C

(if you turn it in early you get 10 extra points). there is a quiz over what was discussed in class every friday. they arent too bad. just look over your notes. definitely take notes and do the review for the tests and you will be fine. hes a really nice guy.  - Grade In Class:B+

I admit his lectures can be a little dull, but as long as you take the notes and go back over them before the tests, you will be fine. He gives you review sheets before each of the tests...DO THEM! He won't put any information on his tests that he did not first put on his review sheet. Make sure you take a look at the Hauer and Young reviews as well...That are the only information from the book that he would put on the test. He also gives online quizzes each week over the assigned reading in Hauer and Young. His quizzes are simple. Just read through the chapter and underline the important concepts and unique words. He gives you 15 minutes to answer 8-10 questions. They are easy points! I never went to any SI sessions, but they are avaliable if you need help. His final is cummulative, but over 50% of the final is over "Recent material." that you will cover about 2-3 weeks before the final. You have to do one 2 page essay worth 3% of your grade, but it's the broadest question in the world. "Who do you think Jesus was?" If you even put half of your thought into it, you will get a 100%. Overall, this is a great proffesor and a great class. I highly recommend him!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:christian scriptures - do not take him on tues & thurs----class in too long and too boring! GO TO SI!! i should have failed that class b/c i slept every single day (i kid u not) but SI saved my life. tests are somewhat hard but not too bad, but it helps if u have some prior Bible knowledge  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:Christian Scriptures - Holleyman is straight lecture which works for some people. Very little interaction but he is very clear about topics. He can word his test a little oddly but for the most part if you study for them pretty hard you can do alright. Very nice and friendly though.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:1310 - Holleyman is an amazing professor. I am not a Christian, so I didn't know a lot of what I learned in his class beforehand, but I made a decent grade by taking crazy amounts of notes every class period. If you have a laptop, USE IT! His test questions came mainly from the lecture. His quizzes were from the reading, and we were able to use our books to answer the questions. I would have made an A if I had done the extra credit, but I didn't think I would need it (I thought wrong).  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2007-01-04

Comments:1310 - His tests are over his lectures, so be sure to take notes. There are 12 quizzes, he only requires you to take 10, but if you take all 12 he will drop the lowest 2 quiz scores. If you miss any of his classes you will miss a ton of information that is on his tests.   - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1310 - Great Professor. Seems to love what he teaches and knows it well. His lectures are in depth. Tests are pretty straightforward if you study the notes. There are a lot of notes from class. Gives extra credit.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1350 - This guy is pretty cool. He's willing to help you understand things and likes for interaction during class. He'll give everyone points on a couple of tests if there is something wrong with a question or two, but do NOT expect him to bump your grade at the end of the semester. I had an 89.3 and couldn't get an A out of him. It was frustrating at first but looking back on it, he was an awesome teacher. I would highly recommend him.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1301 - If you think something isn't important in his notes, chances are that it actually is. Make sure you know EVERY detail esp. with the gospels.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - Well, I must say that he is an excellent lecturer, and he cares about his students, but... his TESTS ARE PRETTY TRICKY. You have to study your notes very well and read the Bible like he asks you to in the syllabus... otherwise you'll be very lost. I thought this woulda been my easy class... but, unfortunately... it wasn't so. It's not as hard as chem and cal... but it is harder than a typical history class.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1310 - I loved Holleyman! he's an awesome guy and a good teacher. he has really good insight on some things in the bible that ive never through about before. his quizes were easy, if you have any background from the bible you'll do fine on his quizes. His tests werent too bad. all multiple choice with some matching. i suggest study groups, they helped out a lot! take him if you can.. he's awesome!   - Grade In Class:B

Comments:REL 1310 - Professor Holleyman was wonderful, and I would highly recommend him to anyone taking The Christian Scriptures. From what I hear, he is really the professor to get for this course. As far as daily workload, it wasn't bad at all. There are chapters assigned in the textbook, but the tests don't really come from those. The purpose of reading the textbook is really to help you understand what's going on and be prepared for lectures. When it came time for the tests, Holleyman posted Study Guides on Blackboard that told us about five or so questions we needed to know from each of the chapters in the textbook, so we knew exactly what to study from that. There are quizzes almost every day in class, but they are honestly very easy if you read the Bible reading assigned the class before. Only the best ten out of thirteen or so quizzes count. The tests were not difficult. They came mainly from Holleyman's lectures, and as long as you pay attention in class and take good notes, and really understand what he is talking about, you will do fine. I never had to study much. Be aware that the third test over the Gospels is probably the trickiest, but even that one wasn't bad in my opinion. All tests were multiple choice, with some matching. Overall, Holleyman was a great professor. He really knew what he was talking about and made the material interesting. I went to see him during his office hours and found him very approachable and easy to talk to. In my opinion, Holleyman's class was a great experience, and I recommend taking him for REL 1310. I know I would take him again if I had the chance.   - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - Dr.Holleyman is an amazing teacher!!! He explains everything really well and is willing to help you in any way. His tests come from mainly his lectures, so take good notes. Comments:REL 1310 - Do not expect this class to be a blowoff, that's what I thought and made a 45 on the first exam but held with it. Dr. Holleyman knows his stuff and is actually very interesting to listen to but warning: the man CAN talk.. and talk.. and talk. Average notes for me for five pages MINIMUM front and back. The tests are extremely hard if you don't pay attention in lecture but if you do listen and take good notes, you should do fine. I only used the bible as a reference for the Gospels test (said to be his hardest test) and made an 89. I definitely recommend Dr. Holleyman over anyone else for Religion 1310, he's great!  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1310 - I loved Dr. Holleyman. He is a great teacher. He makes the class very interesting, so I was rarely, if ever, bored. The test are strictly multiple choice, and they are easy. They are almost totally based on the lectures, except for one or two questions on the reading. So, I rarely read. There were quizzes every Friday, but they were also easy. They were also completely based on the lectures, except for maybe one question on the reading. All the questions from the reading on both the tests and the quizzes are from study guides that are given to you. There is also a research paper, but it is only 4 pages. Also, only 18 of the 84 points were based on content. The class was great, and it was easy to make an A. Definitely take Dr. Holleyman.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - I really liked his class he gives great lectures and keeps it interesting! i learned alot in his class, I had the big class with over200 students so going to SI sessions was very helpful, If you pay attention take good notes, and study you'll do good in his class. he is a really nice laid back guy!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - I was extremely bored in this class, but I liked Dr. Holleyman as a person. His tests are solely off of his lectures so be sure to pay attention. One research paper that isn't too bad. All in all a decent professor.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1310 - Dr. Holleyman is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. THIS MAN TRULY CARES. He is a wonderful teacher and I WISH he tought 1350 because I would take him over anyone in a heartbeat! He is EXTREMELY laid back and is funny (especially 1st thing in the morning). He is not super-psycho or strict - it seems like he GENUINELY cares about his students and he is VERY helpful if you don't understand something or need further explanation, etc. As far as his workload is concerned, it isn't BAD - but you do have reading assignments and quizzes every Friday but they are about 4 questions and they come mostly from your NOTES. So: TAKE NOTES. WRITE DOWN what he says. Study them - and you will be FINE. He will not test you on something that he did not go over in class so GO TO CLASS and TAKE notes and you will do well.   - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1310 - Dr. Holleyman is a truly outstanding professor. He involves the class in his lectures and helps you REALLY get to know the bible. He is a very calm and understanding person! His tests are manageable, just study and you are guaranteed an A. His quizzes are NOT difficult, you are fine as long as you read what was assigned. I would totally love to take this class again!!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - Holleyman's a great guy. He knows a ton about his subject! Regardless of your religious background...from agnostic to a follower of Christ...I would recommend Holleyman. Comments:1310 - I really enjoyed his lectures. He knew his material very well. We had quizzes about once a week and if you did the reading they were quite simple. Comments:1310 - I enjoyed Holleyman's class. As long as you do the readings for the quizzes, you should be alright. Definitely pay attention and take good notes on his lectures - especially for the Gospels test, he gets really specific, as in which events occurred in which Gospel. SI sessions are soo helpful, too.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - His TH classes actaully go by fast. He keeps everything interesting and doesn't give out quizzes. Instead we write 2 papers: A research paper and a response paper ... both aren't hard. His tests aren't bad if you take good notes (doesn't use powerpoint or anything)and complete his reviews before each test. Was a really good teacher, so take him if you can. Not as easy as Sadler, but perhaps better.   - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1310 - if you can take holleyman - do it! don't take anyone else for this class! this guy is amazing and he sounds like matthew mcconaghey when he talks. it's a pretty easy class, especially the quizzes. the tests are tricky just like others have said. make sure you write down what he says because you will find that he words questions similar to what he said in class. basically, study your lecture notes. the essays were not that bad. he is extremely helpful if you have to talk to him about troubles with tests. he wants you to do really well. he really has a passion for the Lord since he used to be a pastor. dr.holleyman is my favorite professor at baylor so far. definitely take his class and you can't go wrong, especially in summer school.   - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2006-02-02

Comments:Rel 1310 - All the readings are straight from the Bible or a supplemental reading. Tests cover lectures extensively...random quizes are easy A's IF YOU READ. Tests will get harder as the semester goes on so make your grades early! Do all three (3) extra credit opportunities. The Gospels (3rd) test was very difficult because of the material.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - I loved Dr. Holleyman. I had him at 8:00 and it is the only class I would have wanted at that time. He knows how to keep your interest in the material, and he truly practices what he teaches. He has a huge passion for the class and the Lord. His tests are a little tricky, but his lectures made it worth it~   - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1310 - Dr. Holleyman is a great proffessor and really nice and understanding. His lectures are pretty interesting and the homework isn't too bad. Comments:1310 - What a great professor!! Hes extremely smart and loves his stuff, and occasionally gets off topic with rants that are fun to listen to. His tests are very fair, but you have to study your notes alot, for they're basically straight off what he says in class. I definently recommend Dr. Hollyman, seeing as hes been my favorite professor so far.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - I really liked his class. He is a very nice man and a good teacher. He really provokes thought. I have to admit that I knew a lot about the bible before I took his class so the class was easy to me. His tests are hard but if you read the passages he assigns in the bible and the Intro to Bible book you will do just fine.   - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - Take Dr. Holleyman for scriptures. This class never bores or drags. You do have to go to class if you want to do well on the tests though - they come straight out of his lectures. Other than that, tests are pretty simple if you attend and take decent notes. Daily reading quizzes that are jokes, skim the material (always only out of the Bible) and you will ace every one, even though you only need 10. Great class.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - TAKE DR. HOLLEYMAN!! All of my friends complained about how horrid their religion profs were. Not Holleyman, no matter what religion you are, he made the Bible interesting and he did not force anything on you. Read a chapter or two that he assigns each night becuase there will be an EASY 3 question over it next class (like who parted the read sea? Moses, duh!). His 3rd test tends to be the hardest so start studying the first day of notes (seriously) and GO TO S.I. It will help you!!!Oh, and don't stress over the 2-3 page research paper, i did the whole thing 3 hours before class and got a 92 on it  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Christian Scriptures - Prof. Holleyman was a great teacher for this course. He is definently the one you want if you really want an interpretation of the Bible and all it has to offer. The tests are difficult, but not if you study. He mainly gets most of his test questions from his lectures, but you might want to read the textbook... however, make sure to read the assigned bible readings, there are quizzes usually every day to every other day. They are not bad, but they only have 3 questions. Overall, I enjoyed the class and am not sorry I had Prof. Holleyman.   - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1310 - Dr. Holleyman really knows his stuff, and he has a sincere passion for helping others learn the material as well. The only reason my grade wasn't an A in there was because I didn't allow myself to study until test three, which by the way, as long as you study for, you'll do fine. I definitely recommend Dr. Holleyman to anyone who is looking for a solid scripture interpretation class.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1310 - Do not listen to a word the guy below me said. Holleyman is by far the best teacher I have had at Baylor. They guy knows the Lord and knows his stuff. He prays before every class which is really awesome, and likes to go into the meaning of the material and get in depth occasionally. The reading quizzes are very easy if you are there, and he only takes 10 out of about 15 so you can miss or do bad on a few. The tests are easy, everyone thinks that the third test is the hardest but it wasn't that bad. I thought test 2 was the hardest. The tests are the key to your grade though, if you get A's on the tests you get an A in the class. If you are a christian and want a solid teacher, TAKE THIS MAN.  - Grade In Class:B

I found his 8 am class to be very interesting, I was never bored or fell asleep. He has an awesome style of integrating preaching into his lectures and I felt like I learned something new every class (even though I have grown up in church my entire life). Go to class and take the quizzes so at the end of the semester, you dont have to worry about missing a quiz. Comments:Scriptures - What a great guy! he's do nice and hilarious!! he wants his students to learn the material AND do well... what an idea! quizzes are easy if you read the passages you're supposed to, or you prolly dont have to read if you already have a Christian background. tests are just 50 multiple choice, but can sometimes be a little tricky. i barely studied for any of my tests and the lowest grade i made was an 80. plenty of extra credit opportunities. his afternoon classes seem to be a little more lively, since in the morning, everybody tends to be sleepy, including professor Holleyman... definately one of the eisier and better profs in the religion depertment. HIGHLY RECCOMMENDED!! :)  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - i really liked him! dr. holleyman definitely knows what he's talking about and truly enjoys what he does. he also loves to help his students. you'll need to study for the tests, but it's not too hard to make A's on them. classes are all lecture. he DOES NOT change grades, and he assigns 4 or 5 really easy papers. take the papers seriously and it's not difficult to make A's on them either! overall, i highly recommend him!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Christian Scriptures - He is a great person and a good lecturer. His lectures can be similar to interesting sermons. I liked him but he doesn't really curve. He is pretty rigid in grading. His class is straightforward, do good on the quizzes(bible readings), take good notes on the LECTURES, turn in the 4 or 5 papers you have for the semester and you can get an A.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:REL 1310 - Really boring, but also really easy. We would have weekly reading comprehension quizes on different Bible readings he would assign us. The only papers we had to do were 4 character analysis' (1 page each) from the Bible--really simple. We also had a 3-5 page paper one who we think Jesus is. It's a 100% opinion paper, so if you can't get an A on it, well, your just retarded. Thats all the papers we had in the entire class. Very easy class. The only warning I would give is that the 3 exams (plus the final) constitute 85% of your grade, so if you screw up 1 exam, you better get A's on all the others. Exams aren't terribly hard though, he goes out of his way to pretty much tell us what will and will not be on the exams. I would recoomend this prof.  - Grade In Class:A
