Comments:5335 - Who has it better than us? NOBODY!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:4308 - Super helpful professor. The class is boring, I won't lie and say it isn't. However, he does give you everything and more to succeed in the class. The videos before class are easy and take 10 minutes MAX. Very friendly, but can be difficult to approach as he is kind of introverted. Overall boring class but he the work you do is super helpful and very easy to get a good grade in the class if you put in any effort.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:4308 - The worst. He doesn't teach. You watch hours of lecture videos before class and do homework problems. The only thing class is used for is going over the problems you did the night before. You're going to have to buy his $40 notes packet from the bookstore that is 5in thick. Going to class is a waste of time and he is not helpful in trying to help you understand the material. Choose any other professor! RUN!  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2023-12-12

Comments:Ethics - Class sucks but it's really easy to get an A. If there wasn't so much class prep and the lectures had substance outside of the class prep, the class would be alright.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2022-12-22

Comments:Ethics - As other reviews have said, he's somewhat awkward, asigns a lot of busy work, and most of class is just spent repeating what you've already spent three hours reading, or watching Jordan Peterson videos.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:30000 - So what can I say about Mr. Steubs? Well for one, he poisoned by fish, then fed the poisoned fish to my DOG, then my goddamned dog went crazy, ran off a cliff, survived, but then drowned. 10/10 would NOT recommend unless you're from Tech & have Raider Rash. Thank you.  - Grade In Class:DROP

Comments:ACC 4308 - The teaching ability reviews are pretty accurate, but overall the class wasn't bad at all. He's a little quirky and has some fun sides to him. If you remember anything from Managerial Accounting it should be an easy class for you since some of the test questions actually come from 2304, just a little more in depth. While not my favorite professor, he is certainly better than the alternative because our grades were significantly higher than the other.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:4308 - While most of the reviews are right when it comes to Dr. Stuebs teaching ability, if you remember enough from the first managerial accounting you should be fine. The grades in his class were consistently higher compared to the other professor and that's because he gives a lot of extra credit. There is extra credit on each test, for homework and the case project every class has to do. There is quite a bit of homework, but it is an upper level accounting class. You really can't expect anything less. The exams aren't too difficult either. If you need a lot of help with cost accounting then I would take another professor, but if you are still familiar with the material, you should make it through.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:ACC4308 - I've never rated a professor on BUBooks before, but this needs to be said. While I have no doubt that Dr. Stuebs cares deeply about his profession and his students, he remains a deeply ineffective instructor. Dr. Stuebs seems to use a plug-and-play method of teaching that is uninspiring and unthoughtful. As a result, his classroom experience is not very engaging. There is limited interaction and limited discussion. I taught myself most of the course material outside of class because Dr. Stuebs simply did not adequately explain the material. Dr Stuebs’s classroom management shows a complete disregard for his students’ time. His “Wisconsin Love Items” and classroom devotionals are a perfect example of how little he seems to care about effectively using his students’ time. Dr. Stuebs oftentimes did not have a full-length class prepared, which resulted in additional work that was unhelpful and clearly “on the fly” or an early dismissal. Moreover, for all his talk about working with joy, Dr. Stuebs oftentimes did not seem genuinely excited to be in the classroom. This seemed to make it difficult of him to connect with students on an individual basis. Feeling a lack of interest in student relationships, I avoided his office hours so as to not inconvenience him. Finally, for all his talk about “supporting your teammates,” Dr. Stuebs does nothing to ensure homework groups are functioning effectively. Even more disappointing, he provides no avenue to evaluate group members. I had the worst group member of my undergraduate career in this class, yet she will get an A for her homework grade just like me.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:ACC 4308 - Dr. Stuebs really doesn't deserve his low rating on here. He assigns massive quantities of homework, but they really aren't necessary to succeed in the course. His notes are wordy, but at least he offers note packets, and if you sift through them enough you can find what you need. His tests are totally fair, and I actually really liked the textbook he picked. He's a bit awkward sometimes, and his obsession with Wisconsin is a bit of an accounting department meme, but he's got a good heart and taking his class is far less stressful than most anything I've taken in the department. Take him, do the minimal recommended HW problems, and pay at least some attention in class, and you'll cruise right through.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2304 - Dr. Stuebs will probably rub some people the wrong way but I personally liked his class. He has very little patience for people skipping class or not doing the homework and he will call you out in front of the class on it. Everyday homework is called a "class prep" but its teaching yourself the lesson by filling in his outlines. You get a half point bonus on the next test every single day with class prep. So if you do the homework and go to class every day you will get an A and you can build some good study habits too. If you like to skip max number of class and procrastinate, pick someone else ya lazy bum  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Managerial - Dr. Stuebs gets an unfairly bad rap. Here is the thing: most of the people complaining about him probably don't even deserve to be in college. His classroom has a reverse classroom style, meaning you need to learn the material outside of class and he will solidify it in class by working through problems and reviewing the class preps you were assigned the previous class. If you take his class LISTEN TO HIS SUCCESS PLAN. If you do, and you genuinely put forth effort, you will do well. He is a very kind man when you bother to get to know him instead of blaming everyone else for your problems. He cares about his students and he call us his kids. Frankly if you are a bitter and immature jerk don't take him because these comments make me sick. I only wrote this review because he doesn't deserve this. I really enjoyed his class and thanks to all the extra credit he offers I got a 102% overall in his class.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2016-05-09

Comments:2304 - He needs to learn to spend less time discussing about wasting time and talking about what we do that doesn't help our progress and instead using that time to work out problems with students instead of just pointing to the problem pre-worked out on the board. Also be more willing to explain things and not call kids out to make them feel awkward for questioning it. He is EXTREMELY condescending and it makes students afraid to ask questions. If he was only a fly on the wall in SI where students come just to ask things to be explained because they were shot down in lecture. His "Wisconsin Love items" take away a good 15 minutes of instruction and are his way of trying to prove that Texas is not the only good state. They have NOTHING to do with the class. So unless you like a condescending teacher and want to spend your free time trying to teach yourself and going to other teachers for help, then DON'T take him!! My A is because of the awesome SI and help from my accounting major friends.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2304 - rude, unhelpful, and unable are the three words that come to mind after taking this professor. He spends too much time talking about Wisconsin and not enough teaching. You cannot read his handwriting. He is unfriendly in person and refuses to go beyond what is required of him to help out his students. I was only able to get an A because I taught myself from the book (which is also an awful textbook). He will blow through the material way to quickly and you won't have time to copy what he is writing on the board or on the notes. After asking if I could access the correct note answers somehow online, he refused to offer anything more than "come to my office hours" after I told him I had class during his available times. Good luck if you take Stuebs. He has no teaching skill whatsoever. Find someone else. Seriously.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2016-02-09

Comments:2304 - He's really not that bad of a teacher. You can succeed in his class with preparation and constant looking over his notes. He's a very nice man that wants you to succeed. I recommend going into his office hours.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Managerial - No. Stop saying nice things about this man! That's what got me into this mess. Don't. I hate myself for taking his class. Managerial is supposed to be easier. I miss financial with Owen Brown.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:Managerial - I don't usually write reviews for professors, but I'm reading through some of these and finding they're unfair. Yes, Stuebs assigns a LOT of outside work, so if you're not willing to put in the effort, he's probably not the professor for you. Yes, a lot of that outside work will seem tedious and unnecessary and yes, you will probably get frustrated along the way. However, in all honesty, he is probably going to be one of the most generous professors you will ever have. Stuebs assigns "class preps" before every class period (along with the written homework) where you essentially go in and read about some of the topics that are going to be covered in the next class and answer some simple questions. At the beginning of every class period, you can show him that you've done the day's assigned class preps, and you get some extra credit on the exam-I've gotten up to 8 extra credit points (and they're graded out of 80). So, the class preps are optional, and even if you don't understand what you've read, if you put in some kind of effort to answer the questions, you'll get the points. I've found that going through the class preps makes me confident and more comfortable when he actually goes through the material in class. I felt his exams were very fair after reworking the homework assignments, and the class preps weren't the only means of extra credit he offered; there are plenty of opportunities to get some points!. As a person, Professor Stuebs is very quirky and somewhat awkward, but it's obvious that he loves his students and what he does-that passion is what has made me love his class so much. He's very organized with print out notes for each class, gives great real-life examples in class, and takes all of his students seriously-he really enjoys getting to know you and will bring up something he knows you're interested in in an attempt to bond with you. In conclusion, yes, this class is difficult and you'll probably spend the majority of your study time on Accounting, but if you're seriously considering this subject as a profession and are willing to put the time and effort into this class, please give Professor Stuebs a chance!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Managerial - I usually do not write about my professors, but I feel like his rating does not give him enough credit! He is absolutely hilarious! He has a very dry sense of humor, so it may not come across as funny to some people. But about the class, he is always available for office hours, and he gives a TON of extra credit! Also a helpful hint, he will like you as long as you show up everyday early for class and do all the class preps and homework assignments! Overall, he is a nice guy if you take time to talk to him, and if you try and learn the material he is a great professor!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:ACC 4350 Ethics - A lot of people dislike Stuebs, but he was a nice guy. He is extremely passionate about this class and takes it seriously. Even though everyone says he is lame, this is definitely a good thing about a professor. There is a lot of reading but you can get by without doing it. I made an A in the class and studied about 4 to 5 hours each test. (Its a lot of memorization). The material didn't make me more ethical at all but it wasn't quite as bad as everyone makes it out to be. :)  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2303 - YIKES. I truly believe this guy loves accounting and is genuinely a nice, good person, but he is also the most socially awkward person I have ever met, and his teaching method is awful. In fact, he doesn't actually teach ANYTHING. His method is to assign hw from the next chapter we haven't gone over yet and expects us to read and learn the material ourselves. During the actual class time he goes around the room and makes you give him your answers to the hw problems, so during the class we ONLY went over answers to the hw problems, and then the next night we would once again have hw from the next chapter. It was so frustrating. I would try to go to office hours for help, but he only has one way of explaining things and I always felt uncomfortable asking for help. I am an A student, and I have never studied so hard for a class, and I barely was able to pass. There is one good thing though - the hw isn't a grade, it counts toward extra credit on your test, which was always nice and very much needed. If you are good at teaching yourself from the textbook then you would probably be alright, but if not, then avoid him at all costs.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:2303 - If you want a teacher where you feel comfortable in going to get help, DONT TAKE HIM. Very difficult and when I tried to get help I just remember him saying well if you were smart enough to know this and that then you would know what to do. He however took pity on me when I told him how discouraged I was in his class. Lots of work but do able. If accounting is not your thing take someone else unless you want to repeat. Offers extra credit so that's a plus.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:2303 - Dr. Stuebs is a nice guy, but his class has a lot of work. He tries to get the students to try the work before he teaches, which tends to be a unpopular method. That being said, I feel like if you follow his syllabus and show up everyday, you will learn accounting. If your looking for an easy A, take someone else  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:ACC 2303 - Dr. Stuebs gives a lot of work. He makes u learn the information because of all the work, if you do it. A lot of people in the class complained because they took short cuts or didnt do the work. Overall, if you work hard in this class and actually want to learn accounting you can make an A. HW is extra credit on tests and he curves quizzes  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:4550 - First, I only write reviews if I feel strongly about a professor, good or bad. Stuebs is the worst professor I have had in my career at Baylor. This was a huge disappointment for me because this class has potential for being a break from mundane accounting and instead be engaging. However, this was not the case because Stuebs is disrespectful to his students, regurgitates the book, and is unhelpful. The "textbook" was a joke. He told all of his classes a very personal story early in the semester, which was incredibly awkward because we didn't really know him, and he was upset. After playing this pity card he personally attacked numerous students, proving he is a complete hypocrite. He is moody and socially awkward, so don't expect to get help if you try to go to office hours. Basically, the class could be taught in one day; decision-making framework, WorldCom, and Enron. The rest of the "material" that makes up the semester is elementary diagrams and made up word equations, such as "character + competence = builds trust in relationships." This type of material is so ridiculous it is almost offensive.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2011-01-02

Comments:Ethics - He is a horrible teacher. He barely teaches what is from the book, he doesn't accept anyone else's opinions, and he will literally scold you for not doing your work. His tests were random, you could never really gauge what was going to be on the exams, you have to pretty much go to every class and study everything he mentions/ talks about to do well. I felt like a lot of his questions were making inferences from the material which was difficult. This should be a straight forward class but he makes it hard, probably for his own enjoyment. He is an awkward teacher, doesn't help, and is rude. If I had him as a teacher at the beginning of the core, I would have dropped out of the accounting program. I would take Alejandro if I had to do it again! DO NOT TAKE HIM IF AT ALL POSSIBLE! Going to his class was a nightmare.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2010-12-08

Comments:4350 - Ethics. What to say? DON'T TAKE HIM!!!! I dreaded this class more then any other class I have ever taken at Baylor. He will call you out like a child if you don't do one of the multiple readings. The tests are incredibly specific and he grades hard. He does not explain requirements for case write ups very well and grades hard and subjectively. The worst part just had to be his manner of speaking, I wanted to pull my hair out every single class, he drove me insane. I would drop out of Baylor if I ever had to take him again.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2010-11-08

Comments:2303 - Dr. Stuebs was a great teacher. It might have been different for an upper level accounting class, but he was excellent with financial. He was very helpful and made all of the homework extra credit for the test. Do all of the homeowrk! you can get atleast five bonus points on each test and it helps you understand the material so that when test time comes around you have to study very little. This is the guy to take.   - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2010-05-22

Comments:ACC 4350 - This class has been toned down over the last couple of semesters. Dr. Stuebs is a little different, but he was pretty nice to our class. The class starts out with a good deal of work but the load is really light toward the end. You need to be prepared to be quizzed every class, but the quizzes and tests are not all that hard and you can get 10% added to both your midterm and final for doing the character journal. Overall, not my favorite but not the worst, either.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2009-12-10

Comments:ACC 4350 - Stuebs is a strange man and desperately needs a girlfriend. The material is somewhat interesting, but the teacher ruins the class. Warning: girls should not go visit him alone during office hours. He is a STRICT and unreasonable grader.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2008-12-29

Comments:Ethics - I take what I said back... He is reasonable  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2008-12-15

Comments:ACC 4350 - Dr. Steubs' heart is in the material, but the class is just unbearably miserable. Do everything he says to the T and you'll do fine. Don't put any thought into the cases, just follow what Steubs wants.   - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2008-12-15

Comments:ACC 4350 - This teacher gives the most work for such an irrelevant class I have ever had. He puts an inordinate amount of work on the syllabus and then takes some off of it as the class progresses to make himself look like the good guy but I assure you that he is not. He is very socially awkward, partly due to the fact that he is single and has a chip on his shoulder because of it. He takes skipping class personally and has no problem yelling at you like you are in high school. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Ethics is boring by itself, but coupled with Stuebs, it is unbearable. He also always keeps the class late but has no problem yelling at you for showing up late. There are quizzes weekly that come from nowhere and his grading system is so subjective that you can never make 100%. I cannot express how much I dislike this teacher or how much I would recommend you choose someone else if possible. Baylor got it wrong with this one.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2008-03-05

Comments:4350 - This guy is a moron. Take Alejandro. You will regret it if you don't. And by regret it I mean you will hate life.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2007-01-07

Comments:4350 - He lacks social skills. Workload is a lot (almost 3-4 hours a day worth). In class, he doesn't give a great impression and seems to discredit your opinion. His tests are extremely fair and reasonable. You just got to keep up with all your work. He is organized if nothing else. I suggest taking someone else if possible.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2006-12-12

Comments:ethics - been waiting a long time for this name to come up here. this man is the nicest and worst teacher to ever hit the fan of new accounting faculty at baylor. the workload is absolutely impossible and when it comes to bumping up borderline grades you can bet the brown-nosers are the only ones that get mercy. get another professor if you can, the work will be more managelable, the prof less of a chochski, and who knows, instead of leaving this class with a pure hatred for a prof not worth your time, you might leave with an understanding of managing ethical delimmas. GET SOMEONE ELSE!  - Grade In Class:C+

Date: 2006-05-31

Comments:4350 - The workload for this class is unreasonable given the type of material we're supposed to cover. Having to take 18 hours and work this semester, it was impossible for me to read everything required. (The reading is worse than tax class -- if you've had that already) Case writeups (sometimes more than one) must be prepared for every class but half the time he doesn't even take it up so it was only a waste of paper. Character journal is of no tangible benefit at all. You have to remember to submit multiple choice questions to him every week by 5pm on Thursdays. He uses your questions to supplement his test (or make up the bulk of it). If you're late by one or two minutes, he doesn't count it. He grades participation in class and reserves the right to give you negative two points daily. For some people he makes a point of noting their participation for the day and for others you never see him write anything down -- so you have no basis on which to argue your participation grade. He gives his own version of the teacher-evals at the end of the semester and takes everything into consideration, drastically changing the way the course is conducted and basically throwing you completely off track with everything. And he doesn't post powerpoint slides from class. He's a nice guy... really... he just trys way too hard and has unrealistic expectations.  - Grade In Class:C+
