Comments:2412 - A truly PHENOMENAL professor and woman. She always comes into class with a positive attitude fostering a very positive learning environment. Quizzes are fairly frequent and are always straightforward with what has been covered in class. She almost always sends out an email outlining exactly what is expected on the quizzes and tests. Her teaching style has a fair mixture of speaking, writing, and comprehension. I've always enjoyed Spanish, but her teaching has increased my love for the language more than I thought possible. If possible, take Profa. Hulke!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:SPA 2412 - BEST TEACHER AT BAYLOR. I went into this class kind of nervous because it was accelerated 3 and 4, but Profesora Hulke made the class so enjoyable which made the class easy! I am not sure why her rating is so low but she is phenomenal and I recommend her for everybody.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1412 - Profesora Hulke is the BEST, SWEETEST little thing ever. I was super nervous to take this class because I was scared of being called on, but she is literally so sweet about it and if you don't know the answer she just moves on to another person. Plus people mess up or say the wrong answer regularly, so it's no big deal. She is super sweet and dresses super fancy every day. I thought the class was super easy and the workload very light considering I hadn't taken a Spanish class in 4 years. There's online homework every once in a while which shouldn't take more than an hour, if that much. There are almost daily vocab quizzes, which are super straightforward, each like 10 vocab words. The tests are pretty straightforward as well and include listening, writing, and grammar sections. There are 3 tests, including the final (which is cumulative). Also she has two "Entrevistas" where you go to her office and she asks you questions in Spanish. Those are super straightforward also and you practice for them plenty in class. She is super gentle and sweet and also so funny and has all these phrases she uses. Also, word of advice, make friends with the people in your class because you will be seeing them everyday! Overall, the class is super great and she's such a good professor!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:SPA 2320 - Profesora Hulke is the sweetest lady I have ever met. She genuinely wants everyone to succeed and never makes things super hard. She understands if you make mistakes and doesn't make you feel stupid about it. The homework is super easy and takes hardly any time at all, and studying for the quizzes and tests isn't that hard. They are just over what you did in the homework, so basically all you need to do is understand the homework to get an A on the tests. The only negative thing I could say about her class was that it is pretty repetitive in terms of the types of assignments you get and what you do in class. Overall, TAKE PROFESORA HULKE IF YOU CAN.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2412 - Literally my favorite professor! She makes class so much fun and is so so sweet. As long as you do the work and study a little bit you should do fine in the class. please please please take her if you have the opportunity!!! DON'T LISTEN TO THE NEGATIVE COMMENTS!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2320 - Omigosh I cannot say enough good things about this woman. I came to Baylor straight into intermediate Spanish when I hadn't taken a Spanish class since my junior year of high school and even though I tried to brush up over the summer I was TERRIFIED. But Billie Hulke is so encouraging and more than anything she just wants you to succeed. She's kind and helpful and provides extra credit opportunities and all you have to do is put in the time and actually try. If you have to opportunity, TAKE HER. You won't regret it.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1412 - I took Spanish 3 my sophomore year of high school and I was placed into this class and it was kinda challenging for me. The main reason I got a D is because I did not study enough and I didn't do a lot of the homeworks. As long as you stay on task with the homework and study for all the quizzes and tests you should be fine. She assigns a lot of homework and there is a quiz almost every other class. Spanish is already a hard course at Baylor so if you are thinking of taking this course make sure you are prepared in Spanish cause this class is hard if you do not pay attention and do not do your work. She is a hard grader but she explains concepts well. Seems like she is kinda sexist also so if you're a dude then good luck.  - Grade In Class:D

Comments:1412 - Dr. Hulke is a very sweet and loving lady. But don't let that fool you. Spanish 1412 is a very fast-paced and intensive course, and you should not take this unless you are 100% certain that you are able to. Since she assumes you have a strong Spanish background, the class basically finishes Spanish 1 in about a month and then you dive into Spanish 2 at about the same pace. She is a tough grader and she is not the best at explaining concepts. She has quizzes every other class period, which can help boost your grade, but preparing for them for each class is definitely time consuming. The online homework each week prepared and taught me a lot more than Dr. Hulke did, so definitely do those each week and do them well. Even though I came out with a B+, I do not think that Spanish 1412 should be a class offered at Baylor, because Spanish at Baylor is already deemed "very hard."  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:2320 - TAKE HER. She is the best Spanish teacher I have ever had. Unless you never show up to class or blow off al the homework, it is nearly impossible to fail her course. She is the sweetest lady and is always available to help. Just go to class prepared and do your work, and this class is a breeze! DO NOT LISTEN TO THE NEGATIVE COMMENTS SHE IS THE GREATEST  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2016-11-14

Comments:2320 - Dont let the other comments fool you. I listened to the comments about how she is the "best teacher at Baylor" and how she is very helpful so I took her class. She is unbelievably disorganized. She will tell you one thing in class, and when you ask her about it next class she will say that she never said it. On top of that, participation in class she will call on you and if you dont understand, she will put a lot of pressure on you and embarrass you. Also, the hardest grader in spanish. Trust me, choose another teacher while you can!!!  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:2310 & 2320 - By far my favorite professor at Baylor. Profesora Hulke is a very sweet lady, who really cares about her students and will help you if you ask. I would definitely recommend taking her, seeing as I took her for two semesters straight! 2310-there was online homework before each class, a few quizzes and about 3 tests, the material was never very hard if you just paid attention in class and did the homework. The hardest part would have been the two oral interviews, but she is really helpful and not intimidating during them and will prompt you if you get stuck. 2320- No online homework! but you have stories to read before every class and a little \"hoja de informacion\" to fill out about them, which were super easy. In class you would just discuss the stories and what they meant. Tests and quizzes are just basically over the stories plot and the authors and what country they came from, basically verbatim from the hoja you fill out for each story. Only one oral interview at the end of the course.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2015-04-07

Comments:2310 - Not too hard of a professor. She wasn't too great at teaching though. She basically just read out of the textbook when she lectured. I wold have made a better grade if I gave a rip about the class. The first three tests were not to hard, but the final exam was beyond difficult. She is a bad communicator and is very forgetful. This is due to her old age. Could have been a lot worse, but also a lot better.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2014-05-12

Comments:2310 - Profesora Hulke is so sweet and kind. Her teaching methods are very creative and she loves giving extra credit or dropping quizzes. Her tests are very straightforward and she is always willing to discuss your grade with you and how you can improve. If you can take her, definitely do! You will get a great grade and also learn Spanish!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2014-02-24

Comments:SPA 1412 - Prof. Hulke is a sweet old lady who is very particular about the way she runs her class. She always dresses to the nines, comes on time, and in general, runs a tight ship. Expect tons of homework, flashcards, memorization, etc. That said, the tests are not complicated: memorize, practice, fill in blanks. Repeat till course is over. Just be prepared that this will be one of the most time consuming courses you will take here at Baylor not counting hard core science courses.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2014-01-14

Comments:SPA 2310 - This is probably the best professor you can take Spanish with at Baylor. She is the nicest lady you will every meet and really easy to work with. However, she spends every class on speaking exercises and reading literature (which is not a component of this course and we're NOT TESTED ON IT.....) and uses little to NO class time on chapter grammar work. I had to teach myself everything in this class; even though it wasn't hard, it took a lot of extra time that I really didn't have. Be prepared to get frustrated when you take your first exam...study the chapters well. It's basically all fill in the blank with conjugations and vocabulary. You have 2 "interview" orals in the semester and she grades them HARD. But if you know what you're talking about you will do fine. I would suggest taking her, but don't if you have a heavy workload that semester. You don't have to spend a ton of time outside of class, but be prepared to feel stressed a few times.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2013-05-12

Comments:1412 - I absolutely adore Profesora Hulke! She is the sweetest lady and she actually makes the daily class enjoyable! Dont get me wrong, the class is hard as all get out and you have to work your butt off, but it is totally worth it! Profesora Hulke makes sure that you understand what is going on and she really cares about how you do. She was out of class for family issues for about three weeks and during that time we had almost all of the other Spanish professors in the department teach us and not one of them even came close to being as good as Profesora Hulke! If you take Spanish at Baylor, you MUST take her!!!  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2012-11-14

Comments:2310 - Sra. Hulke is one of my favorite professors at Baylor. She is very amiable and genuinely wants students to learn to speak Spanish correctly. Do not be fooled by the fact that she is as white as can be: she grew up in the Laredo area and has a great accent from speaking the language her whole life. The class can be a bit dorky some times, like when she made the whole class sing some love song in Spanish that we had never heard before. Her tests are an amalgamation of a bunch of question types, but not too many MCs. Lots of fill in the blanks (about half the time with a word bank) and usually a short essay at the end of the test. We did the homework and lectures straight out of the textbook and she'll also hand out some papers to do in class. Overall, she's really helpful and I learned a lot in her class, especially when we covered the subjunctive phrases- there are a lot of them and you use them ALL the time in the SPA 2321 class I'm currently in.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2012-11-08

Comments:2310 and 2320 - I loved Profesora Hulke! I had her for both SPA 2310 and SPA 2320. She is extremely concerned that her students learn what they need to learn in order to succeed in the class as well as become proficient(ish) speakers in Spanish. I wish I had had her for 1412 as well. Rest assured -- you take this woman, you learn Spanish. The workload is extremely reasonable for third and fourth semester Spanish. Especially for SPA 2320, she knows exactly what she wants you to know, so the class is very organized for the most part. Anyone who wants to learn Spanish and learn it WELL at Baylor should sign up for Profesora Hulke's class.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2011-12-12

Comments:1412 - She is the best teacher I have had at Baylor, very happy, very funny, and very kind. Like the others have said, every Spanish course here at Baylor is hard, but she makes the class fun. It was my favorite class here and I am sad that it is over.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2011-12-11

Comments:1412 - This class was extremely hard for me and it involved a lot of tests in quizzes. I most likely would have dropped the class had I not had Mrs. Hulke. She is so interested in her students and what she is teaching. She uses a lot of little phrases and sayings that make things easier to remeber and she is always cracking jokes. Spanish is going to be hard no matter who you take, and I think that Mrs. Hulke is the only reason I passed.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2011-12-09

Comments:2320 - Loved her. She is such a sweet old lady and is very good at teaching and obviously loves the material. At this level of Spanish you're not likely to find a class that would be called easy, but if you study some and put forth a little effort then Hulke's class is not bad at all. There is work every night, which usually involves reading a story and filling out an information sheet and possibly answering a few questions, but it isn't that bad and shouldn't take more than 30-45 minutes. Besides, the internet can be your friend with translations. There were a handful of quizzes and only one composition, neither of which were bad because she tells you exactly what you need to study. Same goes for the tests, of which there are 2, and are a bit more tricky because they cover a bunch of material but if you know your stuff you should do fine. Only one oral interview at the end of the semester before the final exam, which is basically just a conversation with her about some of the stories you read during the year. Hulke is very funny and wants to see you do well and know the material, and I definitely recommend her.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2010-12-19

Comments:1412 - First of all, if you're wanting an easy class, don't take spanish. If you want spanish to be as easy as possible, don't take 1412. It's a lot of work no matter who you take. That said, Hulke is an excellent spanish teacher! She's super funny and energetic, and will definitely keep you entertained in class. You WILL learn from her and be prepared for 2310. The class moves really fast. Since 1412 covers the whole first year in a semester, it's 1-2 chapters a week, usually a test a week, and a vocab quiz or two each week. You have to do the entire workbook section for whatever chapter(s) the test is over and turn them in before the test. Which is actually good, because it helps you learn the material and it's a completion grade. There are also two interviews. They're not too bad (you get all of the questions beforehand). I would recommend Hulke for 1412! It's not easy, but really, what spanish class at Baylor is?  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2010-12-15

Comments:2320 - Profesora Hulke is THE professor to take for 2320. She is the sweetest lady ever, is very encouraging, and truly wants her students to improve with their Spanish skills and succeed in class. The first half of the semester, we would have a story/poem to read every night (super short), a very easy worksheet to fill out for it, and a few questions to answer based on the selection. The second half of the semester, we read longer selections so the homework tended to be more focused on reading rather than answering questions. Homework is all completion and you go over the answers the next day in class before turning it in normally. She is big on class participation and calls on each person at least once a class period, so make sure you do the homework. If you don't know the answer, she is so nice about it and won't embarrass you at all. We had a quiz every other week or so but she would always tell us EXACTLY what was going to be on them so if you study, they are easy As. Same thing for the tests (we had 2 tests and a final). The oral interview was super easy and we only had 1 composition the whole semester (which was also easy). You can find most of the stories translated online which also helps with answering the questions. Please do yourself a favor and sign up for her 2320 class. It should be a guaranteed A if you just do your work.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2010-12-14

Comments:1412 - She is very friendly and funny teacher. She explained concepts fast, but that was expected for such an intense class. You have to watch 2 and 1/2 hours of a telenovela called "Destinos" and do a chapters worth of workbook pages per week. She has 1-2 vocabulary quizzes a week and 1 test per week. This is an intense class, only take if you have a good foundation in spanish, or you want to work your tail off  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2010-12-12

Comments:2320 - Absolutely loved her! She is such a sweet lady. There is homework every night... at the beginning of the year we would read a story almost every night and have questions to answer and an information sheet to fill out, but for the second half of the year the class slowed down a little and we had less homework. (You can find most of the stories online in english though so that's really helpful.) The homework is just a completion grade and in class we would go over it and get all the answers. She would call on people for the answers, but if you got it wrong it wasn’t a big deal; she always says “now there are no wrong answers…” We had 2 tests, the final, and quizzes about every 2 weeks. She tells you exactly what’s going to be on them though so they are easy to study for. I was pleasantly surprised by this class; it was probably the easiest of my spanish classes at Baylor and I would definitely recommend taking Hulke!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2010-12-02

Comments:2320 - Profe Hulke is hilarious. There's homework every night, but its usually not that bad. Tests are fair and she tells you what's on them before so its easy to make an A if you write out the test prompts and memorize it basically. It was a great class.   - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2009-12-13

Comments:2320 - This lady is incredible. There's homework every night, but at this level it's going to be difficult to find any spanish class at Baylor that doesn't have homework on a daily basis. She gives you a review sheet that is word for word what will be on any of the tests/quizzes, and homework is always a completion grade. I've hated all my other spanish classes at baylor, and since this is spanish 4 I didn't expect to like this one at all, but it has been by far my favorite. It may end up being the only spanish class I will have made an A in :) anyways-TAKE HULKE! You won't regret it.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2009-11-16

Comments:1412,2310,2320 - Profesora Hulke is GREAT! She's by far the best spanish teacher I've ever had. There is a lot of class work and spanish is hard, but that's just the way it is at Baylor. She definitely makes it more bearable, although be warned: if you take 1412 you will be doing 2 chapters a week! That means 2 vocab quizzes and a test. It is a lot of work and time consuming but very worth it in the end. You will actually learn Spanish with Profesora Hulke. Don't take Spanish if you're looking for an easy 3-4 semesters worth of classes!  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2009-07-27

Comments:2310 - Profesor Hulke is one of my favorite teachers at Baylor. 2310 really builds on the elementary classes and focuses more on reading and composition. She always tells you what will be on the tests which consist of grammar, listening and something written. We had several compositions and 2 in class compostions as well as 2 interviews. The final is cumulative and it is pretty difficult. You really must be able to determine when to use the different tenses. This class was hard but I have definitely improved my Spanish skills! Everyone should take Hulke because she will teach you spanish:)  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1412, 2310, 2320 - Profesora Hulke is AMAZING! She's so sweet & is like a grandma to me! The workload is large, but that's somewhat expected in a spanish class. She did a great job teaching & I really learned a lot from her.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2009-04-17

Comments:1412 - Profesora Hulke is wonderful! She is an excellent Spanish teacher. I learned of great deal of spanish this semester and feel very prepared for Intermediate Spanish. Although Prof. Hulke is wonderful her class is not easy. 1412 is very fast paced and we usually had at least 1 test a week. Each test covered 2 chapters. The only homework for this class is the workbook that accompanies the text book. Workbook pages for each chapter are due whenever the test is. Typically I had about 30 workbook pages every week which was a lot. I recommend doing them before the night before the test. It will help you understand the info she presents in class. Her tests were not ridiculously hard but they were no cake walk either. She was always very clear about what would be on the test, but you must know the grammar and vocabulary. My least favorite part of the class was that we had to watch destinos. They are pretty boring and repetitive. But, I highly recommend Prof. Hulke. She is very easy going and always makes the class fun.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2008-12-28

Comments:2310 - At first Sra. Hulke seemed like she was going to be really hard, but after a while you get used to the workload. Her tests weren't too hard, though she does grade grammar pretty tough, and her vocab and grammar quizzes were really easy. She's probably the nicest professor you'll meet at Baylor and it seems that she really cares that her students learn Spanish.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2008-11-16

Comments:1401 - Made a great grade but i felt like i taught myself everything. There is a done of redundant homework that wasted peoples time and drained their energy, and life probably. She picked favorites in the classroom and even would set office appointments and not show up. she loves you or hates you. sucking up might be the only way to make it through once you get on her badside  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2008-01-16

Comments:1401 - Profesora Hulke is NOT AS BAD AS EVERYONE SAYS! I really enjoyed her class in 1401. She has a very unique teaching style that I love! You will NEVER take a note in her class. Everything is straight out of the book and she works many exercises in class with you. I think that she is very helpful. I was never a good spanish student, my teachers never explained the logic behind stem changers and Hulke did and it made sense. she is very thorough with the material and she explains very well why something is some way. she could do a little better in explaining the homework at the beginning of the class. i remember coming out the first day and being stressed b/c i had no idea what she wanted us to do. really, all it is is working the workbook and lab manuel before the chapter test and stapling them together. there are frequent quizzes that are very VERY helpful and keep you on task. i recommend working sections in the work book that correspond to the material on the quiz (and she gives you specific pages in the book). all in all i think profesora hulke is a good teacher and you will learn to like her style.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2008-01-15

Comments:1402 - Horrible, Horrible, Horrible. DO NoT Take Her. I'm not even going to complain about the workload because all spanish classes at Baylor have a terrible amount of work, but I will complain about her teaching style. Its ridiculous. She emphasizes fully on listening skills in Spanish and the tests are basically half listening. I am being serious here, I studied the book chapter and all the material before a test and it doesn't even help because the tests aren't related. I have been an A or B student my entire life and this is my first C and not because i didnt work for it. She's not helpful either and doesn't tell you what your grade is until the very end... You're expected to keep track of it yourself.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:1402 - I hated this class, and so did everyone in it. She is cute and sweet but maybe for a grandma not your spanish teacher. straight up told me she didnt expect me to pass when i had a B in the class. she wont let you know your grade. everytime i asked her she said maybe next week. still unsure how i got a C because all the grades i was passed back were B's and A's. Take someone else. Better yet take another language  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:1401 - I love Profesora Hlke! She is really nice! You learn alot in the class but you also have so much work to do. There is a 100 quizes a week along with a test. You have to do destinos and the workbook.... So much stuff. Its alot of work but you learn alot! Hopes this helps you out, take Profesora Hulke, she is a fun teacher.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2007-05-13

Comments:1402 - I did not like Sra. Hulke at all at the beginning of the semester. We had at least 4 quizzes every week so we were constantly cramming and studying every night. But I did actually learn a lot and feel very prepared for 2310. Every week you have a vocab quiz, grammar quiz, Destinos quiz (you must do the Destino's viewers guide work too), and a quiz over the chapter you've just covered which will require you to do all the lab manual and workbook assignments for that chapter. So be ready to work. She is very nice, but tends to care a little too much about the little things like writing in blue or black ink only and your MLA style heading, but those things weren't that big of a deal. I would recommend her if you actually want to learn spanish, it will be hard and time consuming but you WILL learn it. If you want to slack off then you probably shouldn't take Spanish at Baylor, and definitely don't take Hulke because if you slack you will fail.   - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2007-05-09

Comments:2310 - Sra Hulke was awful. She was very difficult to follow during class, because it seems like she only teaches to hear herself speak, she didn't explain anything. I had to teach myself, which obvious didn't work. There are I think 6 tests, vocab quizzes, 3 essays, oral interview and lots of homework. She was difficult to get a hold of outside of class, never there for her office hours and was extremely rude every time I talked to her. I would not suggest her.  - Grade In Class:D

Date: 2007-05-05

Comments:1412 - She's old, but she's good. She's been teaching for many, many years. You WILL learn grammar. You WILL learn your Spanish. I highly recommend this class ESPECIALLY if you have more semesters of Spanish ahead of you! She's excellent preparation for those easier teachers you might have along the way... Because she's definitely the toughest. Get ready for 4-5 telenovela's per week, along with a test EACH and EVERY Friday, over one or two chapters from the book. The class is intense, but she is truly a wonderful, caring teacher. But get ready to work.   - Grade In Class:C

Date: 2007-02-16

Comments:1412 - If you have Sra. Hulke for a Spanish professor, you WILL learn how to speak Spanish. This class is not a blow off class. You are required to do a great deal of homework, and you MUST study. Sra. Hulke is a great professor. She is ginuinely nice and caring, and she is very organized and efficient. SHe will try to be as fair to you as she can. However, her tests are not easy... especially the final. I had a mid B in the class before th final, which brought me all the way down to a C. If you really want to learn Spanish, take Sra. Hulke.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:1412 - wonderful professor! she is very helpful and genuinely cares about her students. the courseload is tough because we did 1-2 chapters per week, but you really learn alot. she's the best spanish teacher i've ever had! if you get a chance, take her class!   - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1412 - This is the nicest woman on campus. She is absolutley the sweetest teacher. She is a tad bit old fashioned. A stickler for rules and guidelines. Kind of picky. If you want to take Accelerated Spanish get ready for a lot of work. Sometimes you have to cover two chapters in a week. UNBELIEVABLE! You learn a lot if you apply yourself. Great teacher and a blur of a class. Highly reccommen!  - Grade In Class:A
