Comments:CHAPEL - Come on people!!! Chapel is just Chapel...show up, sit down, shut up, sleep if you so desire, swipe your card and repeat. Yes, Todd Lake's prayers on stage are very repetitive (and god we pray that, and god we pray that, and god we pray that....duh), and sometimes very fake, but you don't have to listen to it if you don't want to, i found out about this invention named "earplugs" and they work wonderfully, you can try them.....As for the singing and worship, Ryan's not that bad, but when he sings with Megan he totally drowns her out, you can never hear her because he sticks the mic so close to him that we can hear every sound coming from his lungs.....someone please turn his mic off, so we can hear Megan.
I am so happy i got this class over with....if you're a freshman, use as many absenses as possible...you have been warned!!!! - Grade In Class:A |

Comments:Chapel - I would like to pose a conundrum, and no, I do not use that word on a regular basis. It just seemed fitting in the light of Todd Lake's nonexistent (yet self-professed) intellect. Anyway, to the conundrum. Does anyone really take Todd Lake seriously? Can anyone not see through his rehearsed prayers? I don't think I'm the only one who laughs when he'll get caught up in one of his lines even though he's saying something incredibly simple. Take for instance what he said last chapel: "Two Baylor students lost their fathers this week. Father, I ask you to be with them as they struggle during this time of... oh geez, oh geez, what's that word? WHAT THE HELL IS THAT WORD???... ah ha! DEATH! Please be with them during this time of death." What a stupid sentence. Anyway, my reason for asking if anyone actually takes him seriously is this: I don't get mad at him, I find him incredibly amusing. I think it's hilarious how he deems himself to be some sort of expert on anything a confused Baylor student can throw at him. "Todd Lake Day" was my favorite day of chapel last year because I got one of the best laughs I've had all year. Go and be amused.
Now for Ryan... geez. All we can hear is your breathing because you shove the mic so freaking far down your throat we can hear your lungs contracting. You're not Scott Stapp because you whine too much and you're not Mac Powell because, well, you're not good. Every riff you play on the piano sounds exactly the same. MEGAN IS BETTER THAN YOU! Her voice is amazing, and I've never heard her miss a pitch. So pull the mic out of your mouth, untuck your "I'm a real live pop star, mommy!" shirt, and go away. - Grade In Class:F |

Comments:The thing is, regardless whether or not we must take Chapel, people are still entitled to their opinions. And for those of you ignorant people who belittled and berated those who weren't Christians and disliked the rather pushy ways of Dr. Lake, you are truly the kind of Christians I despise, and a good deal of the reason that many non Christians think we are a condescending and pompus religion. I am a devout Christian, and I feel that Dr. Lake is a poor example of an open minded, easily approachable, and educated Christian. Furthermore, I feel his counseling abilities are limited, because he cares very little for those who have lost a loved one - I think the phrase he used was "it happens", with no other conciliatory remarks. Therefore, yes, we must all take the class, and yes, we do know that this is a Christian university, but to display your ignorance online is a poor display of Christianity. Chapel itself (without Dr. Lake) is not all bad, and some services were actually interesting. It is very much like a contemporary church service, and a nice relaxation time to reflect. However, if it does not appeal to you, skip the seven absences you can, sit in the back for the rest, and just get it over with. Life goes on. |
