*A 5 star workload is an easy workload; a 3 star is average; whereas a 1 star workload is extremely hard.
Comments:CHE 1302 - McGrath is overall a solid professor, but I can understand why people are wary of him. His tests are HARD, and I've run out of time every exam. The only reason I have an A for his class is because his partial credit is SUPER generous. Be warned that there is no formula sheet for the exams, BUT anyone from McGrath's class will tell you that has NEVER been an issue. He uses way less equations than the other professors, and a lot of the stuff he teaches won't be on the test (he teaches that because we might need it in higher level chemistry courses). Honestly, he's a chill guy; he reopened assignments for me that I accidentally didn't know were due. I will say though, he is not great at responding to emails. A friend of mine had to email him three times before finally getting a response. Lastly, McGrath moves a LOT slower than Stover or Chu; you will be starting electrochemistry while other professors are finishing it, but again, it's not really an issue. Also, his SIs are probably the best in Baylor; shoutout Alison (she's leaving, but his next SI is good too) Overall, I think McGrath is good, but he definitely is not for you if you don't like slower moving professors, or harder tests. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - Don't take McGrath if you value your sanity. Pretty sure I experienced hair loss because of this man. Firstly, communication is AWFUL. He will not respond to your emails or discuss exam results with the class. My class's average for 1302 was less than 60% for all five exams (which is failing!) and he never talked about it in class or went over problems that were commonly missed. The class grade is mostly based on exams, which are very difficult to even finish, not to mention pass. 30 questions, mostly work-through and short answer, legitimately they will make you want to die. He does not give formulas for the exams, you're just expected to memorize everything. His tests usually focus on a niche topic that you barely went over in that unit, so don't be fooled when you think you've studied enough. You definitely haven't. This evil evil man also will make you take your 4th exam AND final in the same period, but again no formulas or extra time. I was able to swing a 70 on the fourth exam, but ran out of time for the final so only got a 30%. This was the case with most of my friends in the class as well. He also will not grade your exams in a timely manner. I waited about 3 weeks for one of my exams and by the time I got my grade back we had already took the next exam. Grading scale also does not include minuses, so even if you are close to passing (like I was), he will not budge. Genuinely, if you value your life do not take this man. - Grade In Class:D
Comments:CHE 1301 H1 - For Chem 1, I’ve heard McGrath is great. For Chem 2, I have heard McGrath is great. HOWEVER, for honors chem, his class morphs into this terrifying, 40-foot tall beast in the form of no formula sheets on tests, no drop test, and various OChem topics sprinkled throughout. I cannot stress enough, if you have not taken AP Chem, do not take this course. I felt like I was teaching myself the basics the whole semester while everyone else was building on their previous chemistry foundation. When comparing my tests to my classmates with Stover’s, I nearly cried because they were so much easier and more generous. I may have been able to scrape an A except the third test!!! was extremely more difficult imo and tanked my test average. Again, Honors does not offer a drop test like regular chem or a formula sheet on tests. Dr McGrath is truly such a caring person and good professor, for me, I think it was more of an advising issue than anything, so carefully examine your chem knowledge before tackling this class. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:1302 - I have taken Chem 2 twice—once with Dr. Stover and once with Dr. McGrath—and I can honestly say Dr. McGrath is the weaker instructor, which is surprising given that he is the department head. Unlike many other Chem 2 professors, he does not allow equation sheets on exams. This may sound intimidating at first, but it actually makes the exams more straightforward since you’re forced to truly memorize and understand the equations. His exams are relatively short (around 30 questions) and fairly straightforward compared to other sections. There are four semester exams and a cumulative final, but one exam grade can be dropped at the end of the semester. I strongly recommend saving the drop for the final, especially since Exam 4 and the final are taken together. The homework platforms (Aktiv and TopHat) are annoying and time-consuming, but they definitely help boost your grade if you complete them. He is a very nice professor and is always willing to help if you go to office hours. As long as you keep up with the in-class material and practice consistently, you should be fine in this class. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1302 - TAKE MCGRATH! YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT - Grade In Class:A
Comments:CHE 1302 - Dr. McGrath is a great professor and gives you plenty of resources. He has practice tests and quizzes for each exam that have very similar questions to the actual exam. He posts "review notes" for every chapter which is essentially a study guide for the exam. I thought the tests were always very fair and was never felt like they were unreasonable. I didn't feel the need to read the textbook as I felt he explained all the concepts very well. The workload is pretty average for a science class and includes reading and answering questions in the textbook, aktiv homework, and quizzes. The quizzes were very easy, mostly conceptual and never had math questions. Going to SI often is very helpful in this course and allows you to get a feel of what kind of questions will be on the exam. I withdrew from chem 2 with a different prof and retook it this semester and got an A so take McGrath if you can! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:CHE 1302 - Fairly standard Gen-Ed class. Big lecture hall, just listening and taking notes. He always has office hours though, and so does his TA/SI. The first four tests are exactly like the "blank handouts" practice problems we do throughout the unit, but the true/false & non math problems on the tests are actually fairly difficult. The final had very few of the math problems and was much more conceptual, but he drops 1 of the 5 exams/final so you have some leeway. If you put in the hours, you'll make it out with an A. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1301 H - Pretty manageable. He’s a really good dude. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Chem 1301 HR - Dr.McGrath is an excellent professor. It was by far one of my most challenging classes for my first semester of college. I am a business fellow, keep that in mind. I never had any experience in AP Chem. I had mostly between an 85 to 90 percent on all my tests before the curves. It was very rare that he did curve. Our final exam was much better than any of the exams throughout the semester. I got a 97. He reads through the slides and sometimes goes on tangents on material that will not be on the test. We had a ton of Aktiv and TopHat questions (~100 per chapter), but some were fairly easy. He was always super helpful when I could get to his office hours if you can catch him. I thought he was great, but the tests were definitely more challenging than the regular students according to what I heard. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 H - This man is probably the worst chemistry professor. Unless you actually invented chemistry do not take this class. The free response for the honors section is beyond impossible. Do not listen to anyone who tells you to take this class. Everyone loves to tell me how funny and amazing he is but crying about this class everyday was not amazing or funny and his jokes are also extremely mediocre along with his teaching ability. Take any other professor but McGrath. I honestly couldn't say one good thing about this class, I looked forward to the day I never had to see him again ever since my first real lecture. Please don't take this class - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1301, 1302 - He is a very nice man. I saw the negative comments and I truly do not understand. He is extremely helpful and gives you lots of practice. It is true that to succeed in honors you need a strong AP chem foundation, but even if you are not good at chemistry... he is a fantastic man. Also this is the same teacher as Thomas/Tom McGrath on BU Books, so for more info look up the other one. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1301 - Dr. McGrath is the WORST teacher!!!! Everyone loves him, but his class is SO HARD and his exams are wayyyy harder than the practice problems and quizzes he gives you. He doesn't drop anything, and he makes it very hard to succeed in his class. I'm getting as far away as I can. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:CHE 1301 - HNR - Do NOT take Chem 1301 Honors without a strong foundation (AP Chem)! I thought I was going to be ok, since I did well in chemistry, but it is more than that. Although the (weekly) 10-15 ALEKS assignments and practice quizzes/tests do help in understanding the material, his tests expect much much more! When I took it there was no SI and usually, the tutoring center doesn't understand those more "in depth" topics McGrath teaches. In class, he does okay in explaining the topics, but would only do around 1-2 practice problems per chapter with you. This would be fine if there was an SI or someone else to do problems with outside of class, but again there isn't because you are "honors". He is sort of available outside out class, but if you do not email him ahead of time saying you are going, then he won't most likely be there. It is hard to find him during office hours, but he really is willing to meet with you. Again, he does have extra practice with small explanations, but it is different from his tests. Some people do decently without a strong foundation, but I wouldn't advise it if you do not since it is your first semester of college and especially if you are taking 2-3 STEM classes, it is difficult to figure out. - Grade In Class:D
Comments:CHE 1301 - Honors - Please do not take honors chem 1 unless you have a firm foundation in chemistry from high school (e.g. took AP chem). I took online chemistry and thought I was prepared enough, but I was wrong. I do great on homework (ALEKS, though annoying...) and practice problems, but his tests are levels above what the practice quizzes are. I am not sure what my grade is, but I am afraid that I will get a D. He does not drop any tests or curves despite the difficulty of the tests. I think his test averages are high because most people have a firm foundation in chemistry. He isn't willing to help your grade if you do not know certain concepts. He simply assumes you will know it. He seems like a wonderful guy, but for Christ's sake, give us a curve! - Grade In Class:C
Comments:1301/1302 - Dr. McGrath is the best. While the material is difficult he is so kind and explains things very well. Additionally he gives you a lot of practice materials and opportunities so please utilize them and you will do well - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - I love McGrath. His Scottish accent is the main thing I look forward to every single class. But besides that, he's a pretty decent professor. You can tell he's pretty passionate about Chemistry, and he tries his best to help students understand the material. Lectures were okay, sometimes it would be hard to pay attention, but he does in class problems but he mainly just reads off the powerpoint. But do pay attention still because sometimes the powerpoints aren't clear and he explains more in depth of a topic. (I would go back and watch some lectures in order to relearn something). Only HW we had were OWLs, and he splits them up into parts so the workload isn't that heavy. And, he gives a lot of extra credit on the OWL's. Tests were decent, I think as long as you learn the powerpoints, look at his chapter reviews, and do the practice handouts and problems in OWL's, tests are easy. (I got an A on every single one, lowest points I missed were 2) He also drops one exam. Throughout the semester he gives 3 exams, and the final is half new information, and half cumulative, but either way you can drop one of the exams, including half of the final. Overall, I recommend taking him! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - Dr. McGrath is a great professor, and his class is structured very well. There are only 1-3 OWLs a week, and he also does a few quizzes. This helps your grade and the quizzes help you prepare for the exam. He also provides a lot of resources to study for his exams, and his S.I., Rebecca, was super helpful too. I highly recommend taking Dr. McGrath! - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1302 - Dr. McGrath was an amazing professor. I enjoyed his lectures, which consisted of powerpoints and him working through a worksheet through problems. After having a bad experience with Chem 1301, I was a little worried about Chem 1302 but Dr. McGrath made it pretty strait forward. Homeworks were just a light amount of owl assignments (took about 20-30 each every couple of days), which I found to be very doable. Quizzes were fairly simple, just make sure to study and understand the general information. When it comes to tests, they were not bad (consisted of multiple choice with parts where you had to show work). I just studied by just by skimming over powerpoints, looking over his review sheets (he highlights everything you need to know), and completing his practice tests until I got a 100 without using my notes. He gives out 3 exams, and a 4th exam (during time with final) along with a final. He ends up dropping 1 of the exams or the final which is a really nice perk. Overall Dr. McGrath is a very good option, and if you are good at understanding equations/ how to manipulate them (basic algebra) you will do well. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - Lectures were hard to pay attention to. Dr. McGrath was very helpful towards my situation though but the tests were difficult (in-person) and the S.I. catered to the honor students. One of the better professors but make sure to do your research. - Grade In Class:C
Comments:1302 - take mcgrath if you can he's fantastic!his lectures were always interesting and his tests were very fair. as long as you did the owl and the practice problems in the book (he told you which ones to do on canvas) you were all set for the test! - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1302 - Absolutely take McGrath if you can!! He makes lectures interesting and offers tons of study resources such as practice tests, quizzes and worksheets on Canvas. If you go to office hours, he will go through his quizzes or owl with you. His tests are super fair and if you pay attention in class he'll drop hints on what is on them. I didn't even buy the textbook and got an A on every test. 10/10 person - Grade In Class:A
Comments:CHE 1302 - Dr. McGrath is an amazing professor- is very clear and thorough in his explanations and is willing to go over things right after class if you need it. I never attended office hours (I had taken AP chem from high school so the class was essentially review, but for the things that were new they were explained well) , but I did have him for a NSE class where I learned he's also incredibly down to earth and cares about his students as people. He wants to know more about you to help. The quizzes are incredibly easy, just a quick glance over your notes is the most you'll ever need to study for quizzes. Tests are multiple choice and free response, but are the same type of questions you go through in class or on the online homework. His powerpoints are all posted online, so if you miss a day (do not recommend as he goes through example problems step by step nearly every day in class), you can just take your own notes at home. Online homework probably takes the most time, but you get a crazy amount of attempts on the homework, so it's essentially a completion grade. Just get the homework done on time (as it makes up a big chunk of your overall grade) and you'll be good. He also drops a test grade at the end if you have a really bad day/week. 10/10 would recommend - Grade In Class:A
Comments:CHE 1302 - I leave this review after having to retake McGrath for Chem 2. The first time, I took his class during the regular semester and made a high D. The second time, I am taking him through the minimester. There is definitely a large difference between how he teaches the two courses, and my opinion of him as a teacher has changed also. The first time around, I had a difficult time with tests. Chemistry isn't exactly my best subject, and I found the tests fair, though difficult. Grades consisted of tests, the final, and mastering. I also didn't reach out to McGrath as much as I probably should have. The second time around, during the minimester, grading was much different. We have four tests... period. There is no final, and HE GIVES YOU THE FORMULAS. I do believe McGrath to be a successful teacher, and I would recommend him for Chemistry. He takes time to fully explain and offers ample handouts and practice problems. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1302 - HE IS AN AMAZING PROFESSOR AT BAYLOR!!! Definitely take him if you have a chance. His power points are very helpful, and you need to really pay attention to the red words. He provides students many handouts and explains them very well. It is not hard to get A in his class. I did not go more than three SI because you do not really have to go. The most important thing is knowing how to do the handout questions. If you do not understand them, don't be afraid to ask him. He is very very very helpful if you go his office hour. For his class, if you can understand the examples and concepts he provides you, you can do excellent in his exams. I had some friends who were not pay attention to his handouts, practice quizzes and tests, and review notes, because of that, they did not get the grades that they wanted. Don't get me wrong, you definitely can go any SI if you would like to go, but before that, you need to master the things that you learned from Dr. McGrath, otherwise, you just relearn these things again, which means you can waste your time. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - MY FAVORITE PROFESSOR OF ALL TIME! I literally loved his class and he is by far the nicest professor at Baylor I kid you not. Half the time I went in his office, he would not only answer my chemistry questions but he would ask me how I was doing as a person. His class is so easy to get an A in if you work HARD and he is by far the FAIREST professor for gen chem. So all the practice problems he gives in class are exactly like the ones on the test so word of advice: practice the problems like the ones you see in class. Also the owl (online HW) is low key not hard but takes a while to do. He only puts like 7 questions on there but it took me a while idk. But if you get the chance to take him, literally take him. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - Dr. McGrath is a good professor, and knows his stuff. His lectures cover mostly concepts, but his tests do include a fair portion of math that he might not go over as much in lecture. If you go to his office hours, he is very helpful and will go through problems with you. DO NOT NEGLECT MASTERING! Honestly, he lets you keep all the extra credit, and it is a grade booster. He also drops one test. Keep up with the work, and this class is very doable. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:1302 - Mcgrath is a great lecturer. He is very enthusiastic about what he teaches which makes it easy to listen and understand the material. Also, he is very helpful at office hours and his tests are relatively easy. Would recommend. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - AMAZING professor! I would take him for every chemistry class if I could. He is always willing to help you if you make time to go see him. He explains everything in a way that you can easily understand and does not rush through topics. His tests are not easy but if you study an A is achievable. We have exams (one that is dropped), quizzes, and mastering chemistry. There is a good amount of homework but it offers a lot of extra credit which raises your grade a good amount in the end. Take his class, you will not regret it. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:CHE 1302 - He has the best accent that honestly put me to sleep almost every lecture. DO ALL THE MASTERING it literally will ensure that your quiz grade wont really matter. His tests are okay, do all of his practice and supplemental material on canvas. If you put in the effort you can easily get an A. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - I did well in the class based on AP chemistry, so I didn't really pay attention. But his exams are very math-heavy (and he gives partial credit for some questions), and his quizzes are conceptual. He offers MasteringChemistry (which you should check to see if any assignments have been posted because he doesn't tell you when he posts one)extra credit which helps your quiz grade. He's very good at replying to emails and meeting with you during office hours to help you understand the material! He also has a lot of practice questions if you don't understand - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 MINI - So I took a minimester. The course load is heavy, 16 week class in 16 days. McGrath did not give it to us easy, he treated us like any other chemistry course. He is straight forward, wants to help, and genuinely enjoys chemistry. I'd recommend this guy to anyone. Best characteristic, he replied to my emails (all 6 or 7 of them) within 10 minutes. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:CHE II - Dr.Mcgrath is a great professor. His lectures can be quite boring but thats due to the actual material of the class, not him. He is funny and loves chemistry! His powerpoints are GREAT, so I recommend just using those to take notes on. You do not need to read the book.He does practice problems in class that are just like his test questions. He drops one test. Do the mastering chem because he lets you keep all extra credit! I highly recommend taking McGrath. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - This class is tough. I breezed through Chem I, but struggled from time to time in Chem II. The first test is the hardest and most time consuming. The second test is a little easier and third test is the easiest. He lets you drop one test out of five. Do your mastering chemistry and all the extra credit, prepare for the quizzes and go to office hours. Do not be lazy in this class because it just builds and builds. McGrath is a great professor and I would recommend him, but this class is not very easy. However, he doesn't use the textbook, which is great, and he is very nice! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Chemistry 1302 - Great teacher and a really cool guy in general. Very helpful in office hours and will actually sit down and go over problems or past tests with you. His tests are pretty hard and you have to really know your stuff, especially if you're in a MWF class where you only have 50 minutes, but he gives you plenty of practice material so you know exactly how he will ask the questions on the test. He is also from Scotland so its fun to listen to his accent. Take him if you want a good teacher and if you want to learn the material! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:CHE1302 - McGrath is excellent. His main goal is to allow you to succeede. If you study your notes from class and the handouts he gives you, you will do well. He gives a quiz about every week. These are challenging, so stay on top of your work. Do all the mastering. The extra credit will allow you to earn up to a 130% on 10% chunk of your grade, essentially allowing you to get C's on the quizzes and end up with a 100% for your mastering and quiz average. You don't need the book. His tests are fair and similar to the worksheets he does in class. Take McGrath if possible. He is great. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:CHE 1302 - If I could give one piece of advice to students taking Chem 2 with McGrath is this: DO AS MUCH MASTERING CHEMISTRY AS YOU CAN! You can literally get a 130% on the homework just by completing it all. Also utilize as many office hours as you can with Dr. McGrath. He is very helpful and will walk you thorugh your sturggle areas. I wish I could have gone to more, but I didn't realize how much effort it would take. His exams test you on UNDERSTANDING not MEMORIZATION. Do not think you can just study the night before and get an A. What separates As & Bs is being able to go through his practice quizzes and practice exams on Canvas without any notes/ looking up answers. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:Chem 2 - He's a great professor. The tests are pretty rough but if you work hard you'll make it. The only complaint is that he's a slow grader but other tha that I'd for sure recommend taking him. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1302 - TAKE HIM!!! he makes chemistry very easy to understand. Also i loved how in class we would solve problems and his tests had very similar problems to the ones we worked in class. He is very nice and available whenever you need help. I would not say this class is an easy A but if you just pay attention in class and study it is very possible to get an A. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - Dr. McGrath is an amazing professor, very helpful and available. The only homework you'll have is a Mastering Chemistry once a week, sometimes twice, but they are really not that long and with a lot of extra credit (only problem is that he doesn't post the due dates on canvas so remember to check your mastering chem often). His tests are easy; half conceptual multiple choice and half math multiple choice. He gives out worksheets and goes over the examples during class and how to do them and the math part of the exams are basically the same. He grades the work you show more than the actual answer for the math part. Also, he posts a lot of helpful things on canvas to help you study: the powerpoints, the worksheets, a review sheet (summary) of each chapter, a practice quiz for each chapter with conceptual multiple choices and practice exams. He said we would have a quiz in class every week but we ended up having probably one every other week, and these quizzes are really simple and straight out of the powerpoints. He has 3 exams and a final: the final has two parts, a non-cumulative and a cumulative and he drops one grade so if you do well on the first 3 exams and the first part of the final, you can drop the cumulative part of the final which is nice. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - Dr. McGrath is a wonderful teacher! He gives out tons of helpful study tools for the tests and never tries to trick you on test questions. His SI is also very helpful. He makes Chemistry easy and offers tons of extra credit. Take this class. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - He is a nice person but the exams will kill you. They are half multiple choice and half math. That's what killed my grade. Mastering is incredibly easy to get over 100% on. You have to apply yourself to learn the information. Science is not easy :/ - Grade In Class:D
Comments:Chem 2 - Look, science classes are hard. I made a C because I needed to change my major, simple as that. He's a good teacher but the material just sucks to learn. He makes it easiest he can while still being fair. I would recommend him. - Grade In Class:C
Comments:1302 - Dr. McGrath is amazing! He is great at what he does and he puts SO MUCH into preparation for lectures. During class, we do practice problems that are pretty much identical to the exam. And, not only does he prepare you for the exams, but he also gives partial credit on the exams. Outside of exams, Mastering is the only "coursework", and honestly, I think (unless you just don't do it at all) it is impossible to get less than an A on Mastering. There are so many extra credit opportunities that REALLY factor into your grade. I had McGrath at 9:05 and it was a struggle to stay awake, but I honestly loved his class. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - McGrath is an awesome professor. His lectures make sense and the problems he goes through in class are really helpful in understanding the material. The mastering chemistry homework is often fairly easy and he offers a lot of extra credit for it. He also drops the lowest test grade, which could turn out to be one half of the final which he splits into a cumulative and non cumulative portion. I also found his tests very doable if you study the powerpoints and do the practice tests that he posts. He made chemistry enjoyable and fairly stress free, and if I was a chem major I would definitely take him for other classes. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - Excellent Chemistry Professor, one of Baylors finest in the Chemistry department. He knows what to do and has excellent powerpoint notes along with practice problems. Take him! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Chem 2 - Really great professor all around. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - Great professor. The class is really not difficult if you keep up with MasteringChem and take good notes in class. He is also very generous with tests and extra credit- I only needed to take half the final, AND make a 40% on that final in order to grab an A in the class. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Chem 1302 - Great teacher with a great personality, class is a little difficult but it is expected. He really knows how to teach, just follow what he does and it should be straightforward. Interesting topics too so you probably won't be bored as you were in Chem 1301 - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - I love Dr. McGrath. He is an AMAZING teacher and is so very helpful. The good thing about Dr. McGrath is that he is easy on top of being a good teacher. I feel like I learned so much from him. He has a quiz once a week and they are VERY easy. Just study the powerpoint slides that he went over for that week and you're good to go. I really liked this, because it made you stay on top of things as opposed to studying everything the day before the test The homework is mastering and I really like the way he has it set up. He offers a TON of extra credit on the homework, and I would definitely recommend doing it!!! It is worth 10% of your grade but can be worth even more because of the extra credit. So his tests. I found them to be a mix of easy, hard, and fair. I really recommend reading and rereading the powerpoint slides and reworking all the practice problems he went over in class. It helps a lot. I did well on his tests but I think the key to making the A in his class is doing well on the homework as well as the quizzes. It really will help immensely. Also, he has a total of 5 tests; 3 in class tests and a 2 part final (a cumulative part and a noncumulative part). What I found to be awesome was the fact that you could drop the cumulative part of the final. Do well enough on the last 4 tests in order to do this because it will save you a whole lot of trouble, trust me. Take him, you won't regret it. :) - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - McGrath is good and bad…His teaching is that of a chemist and it's almost as he expects the class to know these huge concepts. Tests and quizzes are HARD and he does give good supplemental information, but you have to find that yourself. He will not tell you any of the helpful study sheets that are on blackboard. He's nice and funny, but funny doesn't get you through the class. Overall, I would only recommend him if you have a good grasp on chemistry and enjoy it. Other than that, it's a pretty hard class. - Grade In Class:C+
Comments:1302 - Great chemistry professor, definitely knows what he is talking about. Follow the in class problems and pay attention to mastering chem and you should get an A! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:CHE 1302 - Take McGrath if you can. He goes through worksheets in class, posts Mastering Chemistry assignments where it's possible to get around 135% when the semester's over, supplies practice problems and practice exams on Blackboard, and posts his lecture powerpoints online. You can pretty much learn on your own with those resources. But if you come prepared to lecture, the class is not difficult. The material covered in Chem 1302 is difficult, but he does a good job helping his students understand and apply abstract concepts to reality. He cares about his students. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - Take Dr. McGrath if you are good at memorizing how to do problems when you watch someone do them and don't really feel the need to completely understand them. His ratings are so good because many students love how he gives you worksheets and completes them in class while you watch and copy, then you can memorize how to do them and replicate on the exam. Be careful though; you have to do the problems on the exam pretty much exactly how he does them because he grades the work instead of the answers and does so pretty harshly. My grade turned out bad despite the fact that I was able to get many of the answers correct on the exams. My work wasn't the way he wanted it and it hurt me enough to get a D. His tests are half conceptual multiple choice and half written mathematical problems, although all of the multiple choice questions combined were weighted about the same as 1 written problem. You can drop a test, there is mastering chem (with quite a bit of bonus), and there are quizzes weekly. Again, most people think he's fine, but I managed to do better in this class after retaking it with another teacher because I really need to know why I'm doing the work a certain way and understand it well for me to do well and It's not easy to get that in McGrath's 1302. - Grade In Class:D
Comments:1302 - Dr. McGrath is the ideal Chem professor. He gives MasteringChemistry, which is a really good grade booster because you can earn extra credit on each assignment. There are 3 tests, and a 2-part final. He drops your lowest test grade, so if you do well enough on the first three tests, you can choose not to take the cumulative (part 2) of the final. Sometimes, I forgot to pay attention in class but he's got a great Scottish accent. Plus, if you ever need help, he's very willing to spend time with you. Sign up for McGrath right now! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:CHE 1302 - He's a wonderful professor, very nice!! However the course is hard. He post practice quizzes & exams, outlines of the material he expects you to know, handouts and power points from class are also online. Mastering chemistry is required. Exams were short 1/2 multiple choice the other 1/2 chem problems. Always available for help. Drops lowest test grade, and there is a quiz every Friday throughout the semester. Overall great teacher difficult class. - Grade In Class:F
Comments:1302 - Love him! He is awesome. Never had such a good professor. He makes the class understandable. He goes over plenty examples. He provide ample amount of resources. He gives handouts, easy to follow powerpoints, chapter summaries, test reviews, and online quizzes. He prepares you for the class perfectly. His tests reflect straight what he teaches. No need to open the book or anything. You will do perfectly fine if you pay attention in class and study a little bit. He is great! If I could take him for another class again, i would 100%. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:1302 - I have never had a more helpful or caring professor. He made sure my holes from chem 1 were filled so that I could excel in chem 2. He was a great professor and I would recommend him to everyone. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Chem 1301 - Dr. McGrath was a great teacher. I am a Chemistry major and loved the class so I may be biased. His lectures were a bit dry and the class I was in was quite large so you have to make an effort to go talk to him but if you do he is so kind. I agree with the post below me. The class was easy. He gives you everything you need to get an A. The handouts and book problems are were he gets the material for the test, but you still have to work. It is easy to get an A but it is not an easy A if that makes sense. I would study the weekend before and make an A but you still need to study. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - Hmm I don't know about some of the people below me but I did not think this class was an 'easy' A. I definitely worked my butt off for my grade in this class... but I had Hassel for chem 1 and didn't really learn much honestly... but I really did like McGrath's class. Granted, chemistry is going to be hard no matter who you take but I guess it helps if you have a strong chemistry background like some of the previous people. Anyway, I definitely put ALOT of time into this class but it definitely paid off. He drops your lowest test grade and divides the final into 2 parts, 1 cumulative and 1 chapters 18-19, and you can even decide to drop one of those if your other test grades are strong. There are only about 5-6 quizzes the whole semester and that combined with your MasteringChemistry grade is worth 20 percent of your grade. The MasteringChemistry was not a heavy load and he gives TONS of extra credit on it which helped my grade enormously near the end, I think my mc grade was 119.17 haha. Just study study study and know your stuff... the tests were ehhh I can't exactly describe how I felt about them haha. But they were a good measure of your knowledge of the chapters. What I loved the most about his class were all the handouts he gave out in class that had examples of problems and he actually works through them in class. I LIVED off those handouts, and he posts practice exams before every exam and those help too... Overall this class was sort of what I expected... a lot of work, but chemistry doesn't come easily for me but I do actually enjoy it and think it extremely interesting. But I would definitely recommend him (all my friends had recommended him to me) just because of the way his class is structured. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Che 1302 - 5 tests each worth 20%(Lowest test grade dropped) and HW/quizzes each worth 10%. This is a very easy class for anyone who has a background in chemistry or that is willing to put in the effort. Dr. McGrath's lectures are very boring, but his accent(Scottish) is very entertaining. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:CHE 1302 - Dr. McGrath is a great professor. His lectures are a little dry at times but he does an excellent job in explaining concepts. He dedicates a lot of his time on the conceptual part of the material and expects you to practice the math problems on your own. You do not need your book at all for this course. He has lectures, handouts, chapter review sheets, practice quizzes and tests on blackboard. Taking advantage of these resources alone will surely give you an A. He has a great grading system and the tests are not difficult. Whenever you have the chance, go to his office hours. He is a great person to talk to! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - If you like Chemistry and actually do your homework this class is an easy A. Took AP Chem is HS, made a 2, but skipped every class I could, glanced over the notes and made higher this a 95 on every test. Great guy and teacher (scottish accent is awesome) and very helpful. Definitely recommend! Just make sure you know your stuff. No tricks on tests and are exactly what he tells you. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 Chem II - Dr. McGrath is an amazing person and teacher! He makes his own power points (as opposed to relying on the book's pre-made ones), which I found to be very helpful. The quizzes are a bit tricky, but the extra credit on masterchem compensates. His tests are by far the easiest chemistry exams I have ever had. Ultimately, I have really enjoyed him and his class. I would recommend him to anyone! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:CHE 1302 - I resent this man. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that I had Bellert last semester and I got used to his tests that were so easy. I guess looking back, this class could've been so easy. He gives you lecture notes, handouts, class notes, and a practice exam that reflects the real exam. His quizzes are incredibly easy if you pay attention in class and review the lecture notes before class. I recommend doing the best you can on MasteringChemistry. He gives SO much extra credit and every point is important. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1302 - This is the biggest joke of a class in the world. Any science student could make an A in here. I studied literally 2 hours before the tests and made 100's. He gives you EVERYTHING you need for each exam. He is boring as hell in class, but very nice. If you are a science student, wishing that you could be a business student so you had easy classes and didn't have to study, then this is the guy for you! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Chem II - He is an awesome teacher. Love the scottish accent for sure, it keeps chemistry interesting--along with his random pausing during class to take attendence and his running up and down the isle to pass out papers. He warns about Test 2, he is being serious--it is the hardest test. He does practice problems in class, study them. He is very attractive, just in case you were wondering. Take him, I didn't understand chemistry until I took him. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1302 - I highly recommend his class. He doesn't give us much homework, just Masteringchemistry. It's a good way to get your extra credits. There are 4 exams and the final one has two parts, one is section 4, another is comprehensive, so the total is 5 exams. You can drop one of lowest score. Also, there are 10 pop quizes. Overall, take it! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Chem 1302 - When he wanted to be funny, he was funny. When he wanted to be interesting, he was interesting. Most of the time I would come to class, almost fall asleep in a comfy chair with dimmed lights, and leave incredibly bored. He basically read off the powerpoints. But by the end of the semester, he started offering more up-to-date chemistry real world examples and some hilarious jokes. Grading: Quizzes: Killers...to me. They're quite easy, about six to ten questions long, asking mainly definitions and basic formula concepts, but I just messed up on them all... MasteringChemistry: Great. You can get extra credit by doing the bonus assignments. Tests: Pretty good. The questions are made up but they're similar to his practice test and review problems in the book. Overall, good professor. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - After Dr. Hodson, Dr. McGrath is the best chemistry teacher. He and Hodson have the same points system: 3 tests, 2 finals and one of those 5 is dropped. Quizzes and tests can't be dropped, but you can make up to 110% on the homework. He is an excellent teacher and he makes his powerpoints easy to understand. I found the material much more difficult than Chem 1301. His tests are pretty difficult, and mostly problems that are similar to in-class examples or homework. The tests do not only require you to know the material but know how to apply it and completely understand it. Make sure you read along in the book, it definitely helps. Take McGrath! - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1302 - The man is awesome. Mastering Chem is simple and effective. He has a cool Scottish accent. He actually teaches you and the practice tests are similar to the test. If you don't get an A its because you're a lazy fart factory! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - Dr.McGrath is a wonderful teacher. You only have quizzes, mastering chemistry and Tests. He drops your lowest quiz grade I think. But Chem 2 is ALOT harder than 1301, so be prepared. If I had studied better I would have done better in the class. He's the best chem teacher after Dr.Hodson. - Grade In Class:D
Comments:1302 - I have failed pretty much every chemistry test ive ever taken until this class. he has a scottish accent & i pretty much didnt learn anything in class. GO TO SI! SI prepared me very well for the quizzes and tests. I would have never gotten a B on tests without Matt, our SI leader. Mastering chemistry also boosts your grade a ton if you keep up with it and do all of the extra credit. I think he also curves at the end. Best chemistry class ive taken ever. TAKE HIM! - Grade In Class:B
Comments:chem2 - Great teacher, like other people mentioned, great scottish accent =D. Study the powerpoints and worksheets. I felt that the class was "fair," as in, the grade you get is dependent on how hard you study. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - Dr. McGrath has an awesome Scottish accent. He's really nice and helpful if you go see him in his office. He requires MasteringChemistry and gives a lot of extra credit. His quizzes are pretty basic so don\'t over study. My quiz average wasn\'t that great, but MasteringChem saved me. His exams aren\'t too bad. For the first exam I just studied his practice exam and made a B. If you want an A do the practice problems in the book, rework his examples, read the powerpoints a few times, read the his review for each chapter, and then do the practice test. He did ended up giving us a curve on our first exam because the average wasn\'t too great. I highly recommend taking McGrath. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - Part of it may have had to do with the fact that I had Gipson for Chem I, but Dr. McGrath was awesome! His Scottish accent never got old and he's wouldn't be difficult to listen to for an entire TR class. He posts powerpoints before, and does a great job explaining problems. He gives a quiz on about an average of once per week and they aren't hard problems (mainly conceptual) and Mastering Chem is a great source of bonus. He essentially drops either one of your tests or half of the final (it's half last unit-half comprehensive taken at the same time) I didn't have to take the final! It's so worth it to take McGrath! His score should be much higher - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - McGrath is a good teacher...BUT its just a hard class...okay this is what you need to know about the class !) its a hard class no matter what people tell you 2) you need to at the very least look over the powerpoints before and after class 3) try to go to all the SI meetings...they will really help if you have a good SI leader (fingers crossed)...this is what you need to do make an A for the test !) look over the powerpoints ...TRY to read the book 2) look over his reviews 3) do all the problems in the book he recommends this is REALLY important because his test questions are really similar..so buy the solutions manual 4) lastly do his practice test that he posts...and try not to look at the answers...and if you still dont understand something make it a point to ask your SI leader or McGrath...good luck - Grade In Class:C+
Comments:1302 - TAKE McGRATH! hmmmm the reviewer below obviously didn't do his homework...review his chapter summaries(on blackboard) before quizzes and tests , do ALL the mastering chemistry, and do the practice tests and be sure you understand everything on the practice test. Same concepts appear on real test. You get to drop a lowest test score, including the cumulative half of the final exam, so it's like not having to study for a final if your tests so far a good. It's so easy to get an A if you want an A. With summaries (which say hey memorize this equation), practice tests, mastering chemistry to walk you through everything (hints are great!), and even suggested book problems to do if you need extra practice, he gives us so many chances to do well. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:CHEM 2 - STAY AWAY there are a ton of old reviews with people making A's in the class but remember he has over 200 students and maybe only 20-30 makes A's out of all of them. His tests are all words and multiple choice and only a dummy can get them right. If you are remotely smart and not a stupid AXO sorority sister take a teacher who is not multiple choice, you can do a lot better. - Grade In Class:F
Comments:1302 - Dr. McGrath is amazing!!! I can't think of a better professor to take for 1302. His lectures are very straigtforward, and he does not dwell on things that are not relevant. The homework (masteringchemistry) can only help your grade. There was massive extra credit on the mastering chemistry, and I ended up with a 140 for a homework grade overall. His quizzes are really quite simple. Some people tend to over think them, but they are really just designed to see if you caught the big idea. And we only had five quizzes the whole semester! The exams are an excellent representation of how well you know the material. He asks questions that come directly from lecture and his notes. There aren't any surprises. He also is very generous with giving partial credit on certain problems. You can also drop one major grade (either an exam or the final; not the hw or quizzes). His lectures are upbeat and he does several examples of problems in class. Overall, I learned a great deal and would take him again in a heartbeat!! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - He is amazing! he explains the materials and goes through examples step by step. The tests are like his practce exams on blackboard. there is no homework, but there is a lot of Mastering Chemistry. (HELPS YOUR GRADE!) Take him. plus he got a cool Scottish accent - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - He used powerpoints which he posted on blackboard. Although he did have pop quizes there were not many and they were not too hard if you listened in class and did a little reviewing of your notes before class. The test were very similar to the practice tests, but you do need to study the theory as well as the practice test. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - Pros: He would answer any questions you had. He tried to explain the best he could. Cons: Its chemistry. I really do not like chemistry. I thought the class it self was difficult. It wasn't until the end I started to catch on to how he taught the class but it was already to late. There were about four pop quizzes. 4 exams including the exam. It still baffles me how I got a B in this class. I didn't do so hot on any of the test except one. but o well!! Go McGrath.. that scottish man... - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1302 - If I hadn't taken Chem AP I would not of gotten an A in this course. McGrath is a very qualified scientist but tends to over complicate things in lecture for people unfamiliar with the chem lingo. Go to class every day and try to make atleast a 80 quiz average, take ur time on the online homework at the end you can make 15/10 points allotted for homework that's a lot of points on ur final average! You also get a point for good attendance, finally do his practice exam and rework the handouts to be ready for the tests. You really don't need the book unless you really don't get something. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - Dr. McGrath presents the material clearly and thoroughly. He lectures from power points so you can easily follow along. He puts them online so you can review for exams. Exams are pretty manageable, although the material is a lot more difficult than the material for CHE 1301. But, he drops a test so that helps. A few pop quizzes that can be pretty rough, but if you stay on top of the material there are pretty easy. Mastering Chem is required but it is a breeze and can give you a lot of extra credit by the end of the semester. I learned a lot from Prof. McGrath. He is a very good teacher (although he seems a little intimidating). He is probably the best prof available for CHE 1302. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - Dr. McGrath is an easy professor but very good at the same time. He presents difficult material in a way that everyone can understand. I just didn't do great in this class because I had a lot of other time consuming classes, so I seriously never studied for this one. If I had ever studied for any of the exams, I could've made an A or B easily. - Grade In Class:C
Comments:1302 - McGrath is so awesome. This dude is really cool. This is the only college course I've taken so far where the lecture and power points make more sense and help more than the textbook. The lectures are extremely boring, but it's not his fault...there's no way someone can make this material very exciting. The power points and the review sheets really break down what's in the book to a level that is extremely easy to understand. McGrath however, spoils his students. It is ridiculously easy to make an A. I never thought chemistry would be a blow off class, but it was. The MasteringChemistry can add around 5 points to your final grade from all the extra credit it gives. The tests are insanely easy. Seriously, just read his power points and go over the handouts from class the night before and you will ace every test. Not only that, but he also drops your lowest test grade, meaning you can skip the cumulative final if you do good on the other exams. The "hardest" part of the class was the quizzes, not because they were hard (really basic questions) but because nobody studies until the night before an exam. McGrath, if you are reading this, quit spoiling your students and make the work harder! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - McGrath is a very good professor. He would explain chemistry in a way that would actually make chemistry make sense. there's mastering chem hw now and then (10%, easy 100), about 4-6 pop quizzes (10%, understand the concepts, big picture stuff), three tests (20% each, his in class worksheets that he does with you will help alot and he drops the lowest test at the end), and a final with two parts (20% each). Time consumption: i personally just took the time to do the mastering chem and studied at most three hours for each test. other normal days it's just go to class and no hw. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:CHE 1302 - He was horrible...took him twice n he sucked TWICE!... Don't do it to yourself! - Grade In Class:F
Comments:1302 - Excellent. I took Man-Klausmeyer for chem 1, and it was do-able. But McGrath is much better. He reads off powerpoints, and the great thing is that he works out examples and those are usually similar on the tests.. there are a few pop quizzes in the class, and I mean.. I really did not see those coming. One time, it was the class before the test, and I thought he had finished lecturing 5 minutes early that day, but instead he pulls out those miniscantrons and says,"Oh, we haven't had one of these in a while so..." BAM. But still, it's a good class. The online homework and examples helped on the test. Excellent course. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - Dr.McGrath is a great professor!!!!..his tests are not that hard if you study and his mastering chem is very helpful and its bonus to your final grade(so if you get 120 on mastering chem he puts that in for you hmk grade!!:)..he posts all his lectures/wksts etc on blackboard and also he posts practice test for you to study! he has pop quizzes to make sure you are studying each chapter..but there is only 5 for the whole sem...usually they are right after you finish a chapter!..he is a very helpful person when you go to his offic to ask for help..he will go over all the questions you have for him...I make a C in chem 1 b/c I had a ding dong for a teacher but McGrath is a great prof and I almost make an A...if it wasnt for my last test!...TAKE HIM!! - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:1302 - Ok so you make up your mind about him without me telling you to take him or not. All his lectures are on powerpoint and he goes over them in class (they are available through bboard). He has like four or five quizes the whole semester and really keeps you on top of the class because the quizes are intended to help you. Test are not difficult if you pay attention in class and do the online homework. He is very helpful and friendly. it is so easy to make him a friend. he does curve alot which helps everyone, presents the material greatly does follow the book but takes all the unecessary stuff out. OK GREAT PROFESSOR GOTTA TAKE HIM!!!!!! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - DR. McGrath is so helpful i made a C in Chem 1 and was really lost in Chemistry didnt look forward to Chem II but his class really was helpful and managable. Great powerpoints and example problems which he works out i actually understood chemistry and not just crammed for exams.TAKE HIM - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1301/1302 - Tom is the best Chem professor I've ever had! He gives you powerpoints on Blackboard so it's easy to follow along in class. MasteringChemistry online homework about once a week, but it's easy and really helps you practice for the tests. He gives pop quizzes like 3 times in one semester, but they are only six questions long, and very simple. He is always willing to work with you during office hours if you don't understand, and can work around your schedule if you have conflicts and can't see him during scheduled office hours. I had to have surgery during my chem 2 final, so I missed it, but when I got back to campus he was more than helpful and accomodating under the circumstances. Plus he has a Scottish accent, and his lectures are never boring. TAKE HIM! - Grade In Class:B
Comments:CHE 1302 - I agreed with some of the above comments. I did enjoy this class, but the only thing i dislike is his teaching style. Most of the time i feel like he did not covered everything i needed. There are a lot of un-answer questions for me. I never feel prepare for tests. I took klausmayer before and i feel he prepared you better. It might be a little bit more work but i learned a lot more and alway feel prepared. I will have to take higher level chemistry class this fall and i know for sure that this class did not prepared me as well as i hope. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:CHE 1302 - Dr. McGrath is AMAZING. enough said. take him! =) Okay, so there are a few pop quizzes, but not many and they really don't affect your grade that much. I don't know what the person above meant by a quiz taking off 3 points from the final grade, because they definitely don't and missed quiz points can be made up with extra credit from the homework. The second test is definitely the hardest one, but I made a low B and he ended up curving that one 5 points so I made a 100 in the end. The final isn't very hard--just study and make sure you know the basic concepts and how to solve some of the basic questions from the book and his examples from class and you will be fine. Plus, he has an awesome Scottish accent! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - Overall I found him to be an extremely easy prof, considering it is chem 2. He offers online homework with extra credit problems that can allow you to get up to around a 130 (3 extra points on your final grade) if you take the time to go through the problems carefully. The tests are multiple choice and are fairly simple. Read the chapters you must, and make sure to learn primarily what his notes cover in class. MAKE sure to be there for the quizzes. I missed two days, one of them was on a quiz day, which ended up taking over 3 points off my final grade. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - Well, McGrath is pretty easy. He drops one test and offers lots of extra credit through online homework, which helps a lot. His tests are a lot easier than they could be. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - Dr. McGrath is an awesome professor. His tests are not hard and the online homework helps your grade a lot. He is always in his office and is willing to answer any questions. He is the best 1302 professor at Baylor!! Take McGrath!! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - He is a good professor who randomly says funny comments which will wake you up when you get bored in his class. He teaches straight off of powerpoints which isn't my preferred way of teaching, but it's fine because he does a good job at keeping blackboard updated so everything is there, powerpoints, test reviews, chapter reviews, everything. His tests are fair, read the chapter the night before and do some practice problems and you will do fine! He gives a pop quiz for about every couple of chapters. Those aren't fun, but they barely count for anything. Overall, he's great! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1301 - This guy rocks! I mean ho can't you with a Scottish accent?!?! His tests are not terribly difficult. I was going through pledging, so I could have done a lot better than I did. He gives homework online, but It's simple and it just helps your grade. He is a great prof. and I'm taking him again for 1302! - Grade In Class:C
Comments:1301 - Dr. McGrath is an amazing professor. He is so willing to help you and make sure that you understand the material. His exams are also fair. He drops one exam at the end of the semester, which can really help out in the end. He gives about 4 quizzes during the whole semester, but they're easy...even if you haven't been keeping up with the material. I would definitely take him for chemistry...other professors make the class so hard. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - I loved Dr. McGrath! He's the best chemistry professor I've had. He has a great personality and likeable Scottish accent, and, most of all, he can teach. He gave us old tests to study by with a study guide. And I remember doing the online homework which helped. But the old tests were great. He was a great teacher. I would take him again if I had to. I can't say how much of a wonderful teacher he was. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - He actually can teach well, but some of it goes over your head. Just stay after class and ask for clarification. I got an A because he curves the crap out of everything. Grades each individual assignment and then curves the collection and then the final grade. curved each quiz, then your quiz average and then curves your final... - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - I love McGrath. He has a great accent and is just an all around good guy. Most chem profs as jerks (for example Dr. Chambliss) and they really do not care how you do in the class (this comes from years of chemistry profs being jerks so they feel like they must do it too). McGrath on the other hand cares about you and your grade. One of my friends went to his office and cried over her grade and he was really nice and consoled her. He also gave everyone in the class a generous curve. If you are premed or a chem person, his tests are easy. Everyone that failed or got a C did not study or they are bad at chem anyway. Take him. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - uhhhh yeah... I failed all his tests, but with the ricidulous curve he threw in for every test, I some how received a C+. Thanks Doc, and may God bless the Scots! - Grade In Class:C+
Comments:1302 - lots of note taking in class but they come straight from the book. i just took my book to class & highlighted what he put up on his power points, makes it a lot easier. no need to read the chapters. to prepare for his tests - read over notes & worksheets given in class, do review given on blackboard. really nice guy & very helpful. (his scottish accent is entertaining too in class) - Grade In Class:C
Comments:1302 - I really enjoyed this class. He makes chemistry pretty easy. All the quizzes and tests were multiple choice.Ask questions! He will stop during class to answer and thoroughly explain any questions. Grea teacher! - Grade In Class:C+
Comments:CHE 1301 - Dr. McGrath is an EXCELLENT guy. He has all of his notes and powerpoints, but you have to be a really good note-taker, a pretty good HS background in the course, and a lover of chemistry because this course goes extremely fast! He has a funny accent and he makes a lot of jokes so the class was pretty interesting; I had it after lunch so you have to stay awake. His tests are 25 MC questions which is an "easier" format for many; I don't know of any other CHE 1301 teachers that do this. Although he gives no homework, you DO have to know your notes because he gives POP QUIZZES that will bite you if you have not paid attention. I dropped this course due to major change. However, I recommend this guy. Definitely. - Grade In Class:DROP
Comments:1301 - I did not like his class. His tests are stupidly easy and he posts all his powerpoints on Blackboard. The man may be the worst "teacher" I have ever had. Instead of simplifying the material he complicates it. If you want to teach yourself chemistry take this class. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - Great teacher. Chemistry is going to be boring no matter who teaches it. His tests are easy and he's quick with responding to emails and being available to help you out. Easy class. cool, laid back prof that does listen to what the students want. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1301 - He is the best Chemistry teacher:) He goes through powerpoints and you write down the notes as he explains it. He goes slow enough to understand and get the info down. He has pop quizzess that help with your average- they count as a test. His test are not too hard, but they are not that long so each question is worth alot. His scottish accent is cool and it keeps you awake. TAKE him! - Grade In Class:A
