*A 5 star workload is an easy workload; a 3 star is average; whereas a 1 star workload is extremely hard.
Comments:FYS Child Migration - Dr. Hinojosa is a wonderful professor who really cares about his students' well-being. The class is discussion-based. There are discussion posts due on Canvas before each class that are further discussed within class. There are a couple of papers and a presentation spread across the semester, usually to finish each major unit we cover. He is a very generous grader. The topics we learn about are interesting and relevant to today's world. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:FYS 1399 - I did enjoy Dr. Hinojosa's seminar class. You will notice, however, compared to all other seminar classes, this one has the most work and reading out of all of them. You have to write 3 out of 4 research papers due throughout the semester (4-6 pages long each); he grades them super easy, they are just a hassle to write. You also have daily discussion board posts but those are easy and you can skip 4 of them. The midterm and final are easy and most people get A's. I do have to say that because the material and readings are so subjective and confusing I left class each day wondering what to take away from it. Even my notes sometimes contradicted. However, Hinojosa is a very very sweet guy who wants your transition into college to be seamless. If you are interested in terrorism and what is happening in the world, I do suggest this class, but if you already have a heavy workload, maybe a different FYS would suit you. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:FYS 1399 - I really liked Dr. Hinojosa's class! It's a seminar class, so it's based mostly in discussion, not lecture. He does an excellent job facilitating the class, and is interesting to listen and talk to. There is a LOT of reading, and discussion board posts after every reading assignment. There are three 4-6 page research papers, but he's not a terribly difficult grader so if you research and write a pretty decent paper you'll get good grades on them. It's important to keep up with the reading because there aren't tests or quizzes, just a midterm and a final that you'll end up cramming for if you haven't read. The final and the midterm are actually both pretty easy, so don't stress too much over them. It is an interesting class, and a great FYS to start your freshman experience! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:FYS 1399 - Hinojosa is a very nice professor and is very knowledgeable on terrorism. However, there is a lot of reading (about 70 pages per class period) and since there are no tests or quizzes, you really don't know what to expect for the final. Final ended up being pretty easy though. Grades come from discussion board posts and participation. Participate, go to class, do some of the reading and you'll be fine. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:BIC 2330 - Professor Hinojosa is a very-laid back professor who is an easy essay grader. However, he does place a lot of emphasis on attendance and participation. He doesn't want you sleeping in his classes, using your computer, and wants your undivided attention at all time. He's not very involved in class discussions and does little to promote input from everyone in the class. He grades the discussion board heavily as well, and his choice of multiple-choice questions on the exam are tough. Overall, a decent teacher, but not one I would take again - Grade In Class:C
Comments:1399 - Nice guy and interesting material. For this class, most of the "teaching" was in the homework readings, so it's a little hard to evaluate Dr. Hinojosa's "teaching ability", but we certainly had some interesting discussions in class. The workload is fairly high, however; we had to read 30-60 pages of material before every class, with three 4-6 page research papers. Really, though, it's not that bad if you don't put it off until the last minute. He's also a pretty lenient grader (he seems to give full credit on the reading quizzes if you appear to have actually read the material, even if you got questions wrong) but it would be nicer if he ACTUALLY FREAKING PUT THE GRADES UP ON BLACKBOARD SOMETIME WITHIN THE NEXT CENTURY LIKE SERIOUSLY. Regardless, recommended. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:FYS 1399 - Dr. Hinajosa was a good teacher. He would have been a great teacher had he poured more enthusiasm into class discussions. The workload for this class was quite substantial, sometimes requiring reading 60 page essays twice a week for daily reading quizes. Furthermore, three essays are required over the course of the semester. My major problem with the class, though, is the fact that Dr. Hinajosa never returned any of our graded quizes and never posted any grades on Blackboard, even before the final exam. It is the middle of winter break and I am still awaiting my grade in his class! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:4314 - Gov/Pol of Mexico. I was only in this class for two days and found it to be way over my head, even being a poli sci major. Prof seemed cool though from what I could tell. My problem was that I had zero interest or knowledge of Mexico. I just needed some upper level PSC classes. I had no right being in this class. Only take it if you have some interest and knowledge prior to. - Grade In Class:DROP
Comments:BIC 2340 - I personally didn't care for Dr. Hinojosa's style of lecturing. He wasn't clear on several points and would drift away from the subject and become more general rather than specific, which sometimes would have been helpful. I know students who did enjoy his teaching, but for me I like someone who is enthusiastic and to the point, which wasn't Dr. Hinojosa. Pretty easy essay grader, but they weren't graded very quickly. Respectful to students and a nice guy. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:PSC 4365 - Classes are discussion-based and often quite dull if you are not interested in the material, so you will enjoy the class more if you participate. Dr. Hinojosa is very respectful of students. The work is easy, just a page or two every week or so, and he grades pretty easily. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:FYS 1399 (politics/novel) - Hinojosa knows a lot about politics... a lot. I learned a ton even though he had to stretch himself teaching about novels too. Sometimes he is a bit dry and repetitive. He is pretty cool and will work with you if you are struggling or have conflicts or such. Cool person, cool teacher. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:4304 - Dr.Hinojosa is a great teacher. You write one essay every week which is a page long and not hard at all. If you are looking for a great teacher and an easy grade take Hinojosa. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:4304 - Dr. Hinojosa is quite possibly the most boring professor I've ever had at Baylor. He would lecture to an empty classroom just to hear himself talk. He's highly biased and belittles the opinions of others, especially girls. Although the reading is easy, don't take his class because it is almost impossible to stay awake three times a week for his lectures while he paces the room, discusses the books he's publishing, and strokes his own ego. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:3304 - Dr. Hinojosa is a very good teacher and he gives almost no work for an upper level course. My only beef is that he takes two months to grade a scantron test. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:4304 - This professor is AMAZING. I loved the way he carried out his lectures. He is very open minded and very considerate of different ideas. Teaching a topic like Latin America is hard when he has to face all the pre-law kids that think they know everything... AND that laugh at serious issues. Anyway, he is an AWESOME professor, I learned SO much from this class-- and the papers that we had to write, couldn't have been written if you didn't read the assignment. The readings were LONG, but I learned so much more than any other poli sci classes I've taken. If you ever need help in anything, he's always in his office willing to help you. He's very passionate about Latin America and you can really see it in his energetic lectures. One of the BEST classes I've taken-- I would definitely take him again!!!!!!!!!! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:4304 - This class was exceedingly easy. We had to write 9 our of 11 short papers, offered at one per week usually. Two 4-6pg papers over very easy topics. One slightly longer paper as part of a group project. That was it, he graded the papers very easily as well. The final was a cake walk that I could have made an A on having never read and simply shown up to class and taken good notes. That being said, I studied exhaustively for the class and final, so I may have a skewed view. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:4304 - Take him!!!! Easiest class ever. I hardly showed up and I still pulled a B. You write a one page paper on a topic which is basically on your opinion and he only counts off for spelling. You write two 4-6 page essays during the semester. I wrote both of mines 3 pages and put nothing but junk in them and got B's. The final is a cake walk. EASY, EASY, EASY, EASY!! - Grade In Class:B
