Comments:WGS 2300 - Dr. Shaver is uncooperative and unapproachable. She talks over people in class, and if you don't agree with her teachings, she basically will tell you your opinions/standpoint are wrong and won't discuss it educationally. Her class isn't hard, and it's very easy to get an A in as long as you study. There are quizzes before every class that are usually 8-15 questions over the readings. There are a lot of readings before every class, but not unmanageable. The in-class discussions are interesting, and I enjoyed the material in the class. There are also a couple of projects with written essays. There are 3 exams and a final. The exams are a mix of multiple-choice and written questions. Dr. Shaver is angry about most topics and seems to have a negative outlook on life, which makes it difficult to have any discussion with her. While she claims to be a feminist, she drags men down very often and has also been very passive-aggressive to the women in our class. This class was disappointing because I feel like the ideas of feminism and the strengths and accomplishments of women can be discussed through a Christian perspective without having to hate on men.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:WGS 2300 - This is honestly my favorite class I've ever taken. Dr.Shaver is excellent at teaching this, you have a reading quiz before every class, but they are open book and easy as long as you actually do the reading. Exams are made up of multiple choice, short answers, and two essay questions. The class average was always good, it's honestly hard to do bad in this class because it's very discussion based, so the material really sticks in your head and also builds on itself. You will cover a lot of hard topics, and it's hard to listen to at times but I really enjoyed it and would honestly take it again if I could.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:PWR 3300 - My worst experience ever. Do not take her. She is very rude and inconsiderate. She gives so much work, and trust me you will not get above a B on any assignment. In fact, you will bust your butt and still somehow always manage to get a D or maybe a C if you're lucky. She is not a kind grader what so ever. She is very inconsiderate and does not care about your personal life. Only her class. So I am trying to save you from the worst experience of your life right now; DO NOT TAKE HER! I guarantee you will hate her class. Trust me just don't sign up for her class. Her rating is universes too high.  - Grade In Class:D

Comments:3316 - I had Dr. Shaver for Women's Writing and Rhetoric, which is her all time favorite course to teach. Let me be frank - if you are not a feminist, do not take her and do not take this course. It was a MW class so everyday we would have a reading and a short open note quiz. There were two papers and a final exam, each with little to no guidelines. This was her first time teaching the "modern" version of the course so she was kind of unhelpful with giving parameters but I would imagine she will improve after teaching it once. Dr. Shaver can sometimes come across as brash but she truly is such a nice professor. She worked with me when I had COVID and missed a lot of class and when I struggling. I even cried in her office once. She is a professor that knows what she wants and can be a bit of a harsh grader but if you show effort into learning the material then you will be fine. I am english not PWR so I did not know anything about rhetorical tactics and I still made an A. overall, nice prof.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:ENG 3316 - Dr. Shaver is great. She really cares about making her class work well for her students and wants to make sure that we are applying what we learn to our lives. Her passion for what she does in contagious. Take her class!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:writing women's lives - Dr. Shaver's class was one of the most thought-provoking and interesting classes I've ever taken at Baylor. She is very receptive to commentary and criticism about her class or the things included, even offering to alter her curriculum after comments from students. Her personal ideas about feminism are discussed frequently, but she does not force this perspective on others and the discussion in this class was always fun and different. She was also consistently available during office hours to discuss your essay or any questions you had. Dr. Shaver is awesome!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Writing Women's Lives - First of all this class was a FAS for freshman so it had about 17 students in it. It was very interesting and we learned about current topics as well as dicussed older problems. Dr. Shaver is amazing! She will answer any questions you have and responds promptly to emails. If you do not receive the grade you would have liked on your essay she will go over it with you after class during office hours. This class does have a lot of writing and essays but you get to pick your topics so there is no reason to be bored in this class. The final is a timeline of important women's events in your family and in the world which is a lot of fun to put together! I would definitely recommend taking this class.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:ENG 3300 (Tech & Prof Wr) - Shaver's really nice and practical, but this class is common sense. I felt like she assigned way to much work than it took to get the point across. Probably any other professor would have less work. It's still easy enough to get a good grade though, just follow her instructions and turn everything in. Daily assignments almost every day, 4 big papers/projects (usually 3-5 pages single spaced), a practical exam on emails and letters midterm, and no final. She's really good about helping with papers before they're do though, and if you see her about your paper you're pretty much guaranteed an A.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1302 - Dr. Shaver is the nicest person living. If you have trouble writing, she will always take time to help. It seems like she tries very hard to be liked (e.g., lets people talk quietly in class, brings cookies all the time, grades nicely), and it works. There is a little bit of work; but it's usually based on your opinion, and as I said, she grades easily. She works hard to make class interesting, so pay attention. Take her if you can.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Technical & Prof Writing - Backstory: I took GTX 2301 and 2302 for my latter English credits before they dicked the Honors students. I had AP credit for Thinking & Writing so I needed credit for Thinking Writing & Research but they wouldn't let me register for it because I was classified as a senior due to hours. What does my advisor say?, "Oh! Take this class!"

Saying that, I treated Technical & Prof Writing as a blow off class. You caaaannnnnnoooottt do that with Shaver. She has you do homework every day and you have quizzes all of the time. She makes up for it with her personality. I swear if she weren't so nice I wouldn't have done any of my work-(I don't really know how that makes sense) Go visit her during her office hours.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3300 - Dr. Shaver rocks. Disregard the last rating. Her class was easy, fun, and she was super nice to everyone in the class...period. As far as I know, most people made A's in that class.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3300 - What I recommend to anyone reading this is to drop her for someone else (Medhurst, perhaps). She is extremely nit-picky about the minuscule details. Out of the 15 in my class with her towards the end of last semester, only three were getting an A. How that number looked by the time the final grades were posted, I do not know. The classes are fine to begin with but then become unbearable after two weeks. If you can't get into another section, it would be best to postpone taking this class unless you really need to complete it. This is the lowest grade I've ever received at Baylor, and I'm not surprised. I'm sure I would have pulled a B if I put in a few more hours a week than I already did, as well as put up with her nonsense.  - Grade In Class:C
