Comments:2320 - Ugh. Okay, as a woman she is nice, fairly easy to talk to, has a desire and enthusiasm to help her students but somehow it gets jumbled in confusion and poor assignment directions. As a teacher she is terrible. Don't judge interior design by her classes because she makes it more difficult than perhaps she should and constantly is confusing the class and never really answers questions that are asked. I am generally pretty accepting of a wide range of teaching ability in my classes, but when it is for my major and I feel like I am wasting my time and money in a class that actually means something to my future, then I get annoyed. She teaches things that we learned in previous classes, puts information on tests and reviews that she didn't teach us but should have and then expects us to understand it, treats her students like children, shows up 10-20 minutes late for classes, I could go on and on. I am not doubting her ability as an interior designer or professional, but as a professor she should not be a part of the Baylor I.D. program right now. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:perspective - Unfortunately you inherited Ms Feilner from the University I went to, I think there may have been a place inbetween as well but while she was at the Univ of Memphis she was a complete and total nightmare. My guess is either your univerity didn't check her references or the faculty here wasn't very helpful because by the end of her second yearly contract they decided it was in their best interest to give her no courseload and basically pay her to stay away until her contract ended. Ms Feilner was completely unqualified as a teacher, she failed to even fulfill the basic course requirements of the classes I took with her. We spent almost half a semester drawing elevations of our classroom in our perspective drawing class. That's just one example of many. The best advice I can give you is get as much in writing (email) as possible so that when she tells you to do something one way and then tells you it's wrong when grading you have some kind of proof. Also, just know her stay there is temporary. The faculty will eventually realize she's a VERY poor teacher and give her the boot. Good luck - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:FCS 1332 - She’s better in fundamentals of interior design than she is in drafting. It’s pretty painless. Tests are always comprehensive. You have a lot of labs that are generally easy, sometimes time consuming, but you can usually make a pretty high grade. Just make sure you do exactly as she says. It’s little things like where in your project you place the rubric and putting papers in the exact right order. She teaches straight from powerpoints which are straight from the book. Not incredibly exciting, but take drafting from her (see rating below) and you’ll be thankful for fundamentals. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:FCS 1313 - this is going to be long, but if you're taking feilner, you should read it so you know what you're getting into... her class is do-able. some days you want to pull your hair out, but if you go in understanding it's not going to be an enjoyable experience, you'll be ok. as a person, i guess she's ok. but she operates on a different wavelength than most people, so when you ask a question she has trouble understanding and ends up answering a completely different one than you asked. drafting doesn't seem to be her strongest point. she takes a while to get work back to you, so you end up doing about six more assignments with the same mistakes because she won't tell you until weeks, sometimes months, later that you're doing something wrong... and then you find that she's counted off points on everything wrong you did on those assignments/projects in the meantime. her tests are pretty tough - mostly because she tells you the test is on certain chapters from the textbook, then it's actually on something different. she doesn't want you to think she's ever wrong, and when you make a small accidental mistake, she treats you like you really stupid and can't get anything right. she also has a random pattern of overloading you with homework, and then not giving any at all. she didn’t give homework before a quiz because she wanted us to study, but then she gave us hours of drafting the night before a test. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:1313 - Mrs. Feilner is not a good teacher. Every time someone tries to ask for a help she never answers your question. She doesnt show you how to do anything she just expects you to know, even though this is a beginning class. The tests are fill in the blank and she randomly chooses things out of the chapter that we hardly covered. The worst thing is that she doesnt hand back your worksheets until 4 months into the semester and doesnt tell you what you are doing wrong until 5 weeks until the semester is over. She is not a good teacher for drafting, do not take her. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:Chicago Trip (4v93) - So as a senior this is the first time i have this woman. The younger girls warned us that she's crazy and mean.... and they were spot on! She wants you to talk to her and all that jazz but when you ask a question or anything really, she flips out and acts like you're an idoit for asking a question or for putting input in at all! Basically, she doesnt handle stress well - AT ALL! She acts extremely immature.. its ridiculous. Now like i said, i havent had her for a class or studio ive only had to deal with her at NeoCon on the Chicago trip this past summer, so it may have been that she just couldn't handle being the only advisor on the trip. i dont know but even then, i dont think there's any excuse for treating your students like 9 year old children instead of the adults that we are. All i can say is proceed with caustion with feilner... - Grade In Class:A
Comments:several - she's a very sweet lady, but she just doesn't understand when someone asks her a question. it's like she gets offended, and goes into attack mode. alot of times her instructions on projects are really vague, and hard to understand that even she gets confused. she's pretty understanding, and great to talk to outside of class....if you don't have questions! - Grade In Class:B+
