Comments:4382 - She is one of the sweetest teachers I have ever had. She does give a lot of busy work, but you are sure to learn when you take her class, and she genuinely cares about the well-being of her students. If you have the time to do the work, I strongly suggest you take her class.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:STA 2381 - She gives no curve, no extra credit. This class is a nightmare, especially if you're a premed. One exam had an average of 64, and she said tough luck. Also, she is rude in emails. Worst option for intro statistics. She doesn't care about your grade.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:2381 - Dr. Harvill is a super sweet woman, who is very thorough in her teaching and pretty straightforward. The exams can be a little tricky, but if you are careful and put relevant information on the cheat sheet she allows you to have, you should be just fine on her exams. Her exams are all multiple choice, which is also really great because there are is a lot less room for error than on exams in many other stats classes that have a lot of free response questions. The workload is a little high, but I also think it is pretty necessary considering that this is a pretty new subject for most people who take this class. Overall, don't be worried if she is the only available professor for this class, just be prepared to need to work a little harder to do well.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2381 - There\'s a lot of great professors here at Baylor, including her husband Dr. Harvill in the Biology department. However, she is not a great professor. Her teaching ability in no way reflects her character as she is a nice professor. In regards to her lecturing ability, it\'s atrocious. She\'s a scatter brain type person, she writes and says whatever comes to her mind. It\'s hard to follow the lectures and I\'ve had to teach myself about 90% of the course material. In regards to her exams, they\'re impossible. Almost everyone here either get\'s extremely close to failing at least one of her exams or completely fails both exams. I wouldn\'t recommend her to anyone here at Baylor and quite frankly, noting her long reputation here on BUBooks, I\'m surprised she still has a job. It\'s not personal, I do wish her the best but we all come here to Baylor and spend a lot of money to earn a quality education; she is the antithesis of a quality education.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:2381 - Dr. Harvill is a really nice lady. Her powerpoints are very detailed and her written explanations and examples are really helpful so make sure to go to class. She grades attendance! There were two tests and a final, all multiple choice. She offered some bonus, too. The homework was an easy online reading quiz and problems on mystatlab for each chapter. These are easy points and the homework really preps you for the tests. The tests are hard in that they really apply all the concepts so you need to understand them well. You get to use a page of notes for each test with formulas and such. I thought stats was going to be hard, but she taught this class really well and I learned a lot.   - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2381 - I heard that there is another professor who teaches this course in the summer at Baylor. Check if a community college course is acceptable. And DON'T - if you can avoid it by any means - take this course. Harvill just reads her PowerPoints, so her class is EXTREMELY boring. She puts the PowerPoints online, but the bad part is she sometimes has to give other information that can be important, so you really should pay attention. You will have to learn to use a software called JMP ("jump") which is irritating because you can't figure it out on your own because of all of the statistics jargon. This may be normal for stats classes however, but it's another thing to worry about. Her online homework is a serious pain. You have three tries on all of it, which makes getting good grades on it possible, but it's always long and not fun to do multiple times. The tests are hard. Yes, the material is covered in class, but it's very in depth, and since stats probably isn't in your field of study, you're not going to want to put in that kind of work. They're multiple choice and in class. She had one "old lady fit" as I think she called it. I guess she's not a horrible person, but she isn't awesome. She has to be strict since it's a big class, which is understandable. And my biggest tip is DO NOT SIT IN THE FRONT. That is, if you value your hearing. The room has speakers for a mic, but for some reason she prefers to yell.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:2381 - Do not take this class. I took this class my first semester at Baylor and was totally unprepared for the ridiculous amount of work involved. She expects you to spend all of you time on her class, and that's pretty much what you have to do to get an A. Written homework takes forever and is graded very harshly. Online homework is just picking out definitions from the book; it is extremely time consuming and doesn't really help you understand the material. Her lectures are also horrible. Not only are they insanely boring, but her explanations are confusing. As expected, her exams are all extremely difficuly. Overall, this class sucks even for the dedicated students.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:Sta 2381 - This class was my worst experience at Baylor, it was more because of the professor than the class though. Dr. Harvill thinks she has got teaching figured out but in reality she's the most confusing and unsympathetic professor ever. I highly advise not taking her class unless you have no other option. Good luck!  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:2381 - DO NOT TAKE HER. Forget what anyone else has said. She piles on the workload and expects you to devote all your time to this one class. Take anyone else but her. Probably the worst professor on Baylor campus.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:STA 2381 - Dr. Harvill is an amazing professor. Her lectures are very thorough and it's always quite clear that she's put a lot of time and effort into preparing her slides and making it very easy to understand. She has a very busy life, but she is always willing to work with students. I have OALA accommodations and she took the time to email me and ask if I was getting the help I needed - despite the fact that she has over 100 students in just my class. The amount of attention she gave to her students was just amazing. Plus, the online homework really helps reinforce concepts for tests and it's really easy to get high grades on it because there are a lot of chances to re-do quiz and homework questions. Her tests can be somewhat difficult, but to be honest I could have spent a lot more time studying for them than I actually did. Take Harvill if you want to take a helpful professor who explains things very well, cares about her students, and gives really easy homework.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:2381 - Dr. Harvill was a great teacher! She is very knowledgable and spent so much time on this course. There is homework due every week, but you just have to keep up with it and you will be fine! Nothing extremely difficult. For exams, I suggested looking over the reading quizzes and working problems from My Stat Lab, and you should be fine! I also think she completely changed the format of her class this year (2015) and it has made the course much more manageable and easier. Have no fear in taking her!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2381 - Please drop this class if you are currently signed up before it is too late. This class was extremely difficult and the workload is immense. If you can put off 2381 Stats until the next semester please do so, or else you will really fail. I am just looking out for my Baylor students, do not say I didn't tell you so. Comments:2381 - Just don't do it. I read the ratings on here and thought people were just exaggerating, but this is the one time they were fairly accurate. You will spend countless hours on homework, so plan ahead. Do not start the night before. She's a really smart woman, but she gives entirely too much work, and her explanations are quite confusing. The book will explain everything though. If you take her, God bless your soul. I couldn't keep up with this class, two sciences, and a language, so be aware of the workload you can take on.  - Grade In Class:DROP

Comments:STA 2381 - This class is pretty simple in the beginning and gets exponentially more difficult as the semester goes on. You will have written homework every week as well as online quizzes and for about 6 weeks you'll attend an out of class lab on how to work the graphing software. The homework took me at least 5 hours to do every time (I averaged about 15 pages), so don't wait until the day before to do it. The online quizzes you can take 3 times to get a 100, but I didn't get many 100's so it took me about an hour or two to read and do all 3 tries. As a freshman, I wasn't really ready for the workload, and was happy with my C. This class is do-able, just get ready to work.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:2381 - I'm still recovering from this class. I took Harvill as a last resort, and I wish I would have put Stats off for another semester. This lady is SO sweet, I would love to have her as an aunt or something, but she is the worst teacher. The homework is absolutely ridiculous, each assignment takes 6-8 hours and they are graded for accuracy too. Other 2381 professors had take home tests with homework being extra credit. Please please please do not take this woman.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:STA 2381 - Dr. Harvill is an extremely nice and sweet lady who cared about her students and loved having them involved in her life outside the classroom. However, her teaching ability is a different story. The homework assignments take hours, and sometimes was over material she hadn't taught yet, and trying to teach yourself how to do it from the textbook didn't help either because she had specific ways of how she wanted things done, so points were always taken off.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:STA 2381 - I personally enjoyed Dr. Harvill's statistics class, and it is definitely possible to get a good grade, but it'll take a significant amount of work. Dr. Harvill is extremely sweet and cares about her students. She always invited us to her tailgates and church events. Her teaching ability is average. I thought she explained everything very well in class, but she's not the best at answering students' questions. Be sure to write down every step for every problem in class, because it will show up again in the homework. My biggest problem with the class was the homework and the graders! They took of points wherever they wanted, rarely justified them, and there was very little consistency among all the graders. The class consists of 2 exams, 13 problem sets from the textbook (EXTREMELY time consuming), 13 online quizzes, and a comprehensive final. The first test is super easy - I made a 95 after studying for about 2 hours. Be sure to focus on how to interpret your answers! The second test gets most people because it covers a lot more material. The class is very detail oriented, but it is doable if you put in the work. Make the highest grades you can on the problem sets, make 100's on all of the quizzes (you can take them up to 3 times), and go to EVERY class. She grades on attendance and missing one class will put you way behind. I'd recommend the class to anyone as long as you're willing to put forth the effort.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:STA 2381 - Don't take this woman. You will forever regret it. The homework is frequent and each assignment takes 6+ hours and is graded by a grad student who wants to fail you. She does not curve tests. She does not offer extra credit. Her tests are graded slowly and she takes points off for things that were never mentioned in class. Our test averages were ALWAYS below 70. On test 1 and 2, over 50% of the class failed. She was very happy with a 61 class average on a test. AVOID THIS WOMAN AND HER CLASS LIKE YOU WOULD AVOID WACO COPS ON DIADELOSO. Don't say no one warned you. Just read the rest of the reviews. ANOTHER NOTE: I took AP Statistics in high school and got a 5, but it didn't transfer due to my major and pre-health designation. My B+ in this class was the 3rd highest grade in a class of 21. There were 40 of us when we started the semester. HALF OF THE CLASS DROPPED.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:2381 - Let me first begin by saying that she is a VERY nice lady and is a very compassionate person, but other than those two qualities her class is ridiculous. It took each person in our class an average of 6 hours to do the homework assignment....ONE assignment due EACH WEEK.....she gives 3 exams including the final and the exams are almost NOTHING like the homework from the book. I struggled a great deal in this class for I am not very good at Math, but there is a possibility of getting an A, you just have to work and devout a LOOOOT of time to this class. She spent most of the class period writing out various rules and equations on the whiteboard with about more than 3/4's of the class having absolutely no clue as to what she is doing. For the first exam the highest grade was an 82 and the class average was around a 54....AND she does not curve or add points to her exams...her exams consisted of 5 to 6 free response worth a total of 70 points and 10 computer question each worth 3 points....and while that does sound easy, she is a meticulous grader (probably THE hardest I have ever had) and will count off a point for any and all miswritten notation, wording, or steps. The ONLY thing that allowed me to pass this class was the stats tutoring lab. I absolutely love them and they are more than willing to help you should you have questions. It is located across from her office and you walk in anytime between 3:30 and 6:30 Monday through Thursday and they are legitimately interested in the subject so you know that the help they give is well worth your time in tutoring. My final assessment of the teacher: take Maddox. (Oh, and she is COMPLETELY obsessed with Rg3, it is disturbing how much school spirit she has and how excited she get when talking about RG3)  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:STA 2381 - Dr. Harvill is a great teacher for the right person. She is EXTREMELY thorough in all of her explanations. If you pay close attention in class, she literally describes every single minute step that you'll ever need on homework and tests. She says at the beginning of the semester to learn the terms; make sure this is your priority--stats is about knowing when to use each process. She's assigns a lot of homework but it really helps you practice for her tests. She's great if you're think analytically and are diligent with your homework.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2381 - I started off the year thinking that she would be a great professor. She was very sweet and tried to explain things fully. The problem was that she explained WHY something was important as opposed to HOW to do it. Add to this the fact that it was a TR class and 3-4 of them were cancelled, and there is a huge problem. We didn't finish all that we were supposed to learn and she started rushing. Her two tests were very complicated and I got a C and a D on them. I hated her tests. On the positives, she does post the homework answers online, but even with the answers it takes a few hours just to copy them down. Overall, I'd stay away. Get a different prof  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:2381 - I honestly dont remember a day when I didnt fall asleep in her class. I guess she didnt care... since I sat in the first row. Dont really have to understand the material to do the homework. I just looked at the examples in the book and did the same thing it did. HW is easy enough but it is so tedious. Only 2 tests ... 15 multiple choice, 6-7 problems. The online homeworks are easy 100s since it allows multiple attempts and shows you the right answers after each time you submit it. The tests were fair enough if you remember what you did in HW. She is pretty fair when it comes to grading. An A is possible but you gotta be concise with all the different notations and wordings. oh... and I learned absolutely nothing from this class.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2008-05-22

Comments:2381 - Ok, I'll start by saying she is kind of a nice lady, with very little teaching ability. She... used to teach a lower level class, and it shows a lot. She's never in her office since she has twins and what not... and she picks office hours that are generally right when students have classes. If I hadn't taken statistics in high school, I would be failing right now. There are only two tests, and then a comprehensive final. I would avoid taking her at all costs, she is by far the worst teacher I have had this whole time at baylor. The class in general is boring, she teaches off of a powerpoint, and she likes to make lots of notes on the board, but it's a good thing we all have computers infront of us so we can check facebook and stuff, but you have to do it discreetly. In this class, we're expected to move at a pretty fast pace, yet the workload is the same as if you were moving at a slower level, so we just have a lot more homework most of the time. She wanted to try this online homework stuff, which is kind of pointless... because she has to go back and check the answers we submit anyways. I would say, if you are going to stats in place of calc 2, take a different teacher, because this will probably be your least favorite class if you take her.  - Grade In Class:A
