Comments:4385 - I completely agree with all the other reviews. If at all possible, take someone else. While class was interesting at times, the tests were completely unrelated to the text, and powerpoints. Also, the capsim project which is the main project throughout the semester is completely useless. Worthington throws the class into the simulation within the first couple weeks of class without any regard for whether we know how to complete it or not. If you can, take literally any other strategic management professor.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:4385 - AVOID AVOID AVOID! Worthington has such a big head. He talks like he literally knows everything about running a successful business. He will argue test questions with students that over 90% of the class get wrong and his test class averages are a D every time. Just avoid, you work way too hard to make an average grade.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:BUS 4385 - First off, I want everyone to know that this is the only BUBooks review I have/will ever do because I feel it is imperative that students know what their getting themselves into with Dr. Worthington. So for all the crazy reviews that can end up on here, take this as a well thought out review by a student who typically does well. Dr. Worthington is a 10/10 person. He is a high quality individual with great values and a lot of wisdom. However, the way he structures this class is not conducive to your learning the material and performing well on tests or projects. I will start off with tests. In my class, every test averaged out at a C and not a single test had a high score above a 90. Worthington structures his class to include lectures over powerpoint slides from the publisher, but this contributes little to test material. Also as time goes on, it will become evident that Worthington would rather spend time discussing his (approximately) weekly article reviews over nebulous management practices and values. These discussions, which come to compose most of class time are useful for participation points but comprise a minuscule amount of testable material. Essentially, Worthing does little in the way of equipping his students for success on exams, as evidenced by the grades. Additional study of the book can be very helpful, but in the end it only helped so much. Now for participation. In my class, no perfect score was given for participation. I received the highest score at 95%. It is not really possible to explain how this is graded due to what Worthington self describes as a subjective evaluation. I can't really say much outside of the fact that this is the only class I have taken at Baylor that has not had a 100% score given for participation. Take from this what you will, just know to set your expectations accordingly. The last few things I would like to mention are specific problems I had with the class. These may not be true to everyone, but they presented significant issues for my performance. First, Worthington is the only professor who uses Capsim and the MFT exam. Capsim is a management simulation that involves running a company with a randomly selected team. It is graded as a competition with first place earning an A and last place earning a C. If your team has a hard time with this assignment it can be difficult to recover without extra credit points (which may or may not be offered). The MFT is an exam used for Business school evaluation purposes. It is also used by the biology department at Baylor. Essentially it is a comprehensive test over everything taught in the business school that Baylor uses to adjust its curriculum. In Worthington's class, the MFT is used as the final exam. This is great as there is really no studying required for it, however Worthington allows it to replace your lowest test grade. If you score lower than your lowest test grade, he takes your test average and uses it for your final exam grade. The class also involves a 20-25 page report on your performance in Capsim and a 20 minute presentation over the same material. The paper can take a substantial amount of time to complete and can be particularly hard to deal with if you have a lot of other group project intensive classes. In conclusion I would highly recommend choosing a different professor to take strategic management from. Although this is a capstone class and is supposedly the crowning achievement of a business major, it is simply not worth the effort put in with Dr. Worthington. In discussions with many of the other sections of this class I found their course loads to be significantly lighter than mine. My biggest complaint with this class hinges on the fact that it took so much time away from other classes that I could have performed so much better in. I thought devoting a substantial amount of time would lead to a good return in my grade, but this was simply not the case. While I am sure that Dr. Worthington is great in his other classes and I really respect him as a person, this class is not worth the investment it requires.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:BUS 4385 - I have serious problems with Bill Worthington as a person. I think he is unfair and pretentious. He put a page in his syllabus that says (paraphrase) 'I'm a 'Dr.' so you'd better treat me like one. I'm not your friend.' He is very bad at replying to emails and sometimes doesn't reply altogether. He loves a suck-up. He had us write 2 page single page (so 4 pages) reflections for almost every class. I'm not writing this review to scare someone out of taking his class. I am writing so that, hopefully, someone on the Baylor HR team sees it and reconsiders his position as a professor here. Baylor students deserve better. This class taught me nothing.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:4385 - AVOID. AVOID. AVOID. Hands down one of the most frustrating professors in the business school. He spends 45 min a class period talking about an article in class, flies through the powerpoint in about twenty minutes, and then the tests only cover part of what was on the powerpoint, and part of just random things he thinks up. The capstone is time consuming an unnecessarily work heavy. If you have a bad team you are in trouble. The worst part is 20% of the grade is a subjective participation grade that even if you do everything the syllabus says, you won't get above an A- in that category. He plays favorites, and he refuses to meet to discuss things. This class was a waste of time.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:4385 - Took Dr. Worthington for a summer session and i am so glad i did! We didn't have to do capstone because it was a summer session but we had to do a 10 page report and presentation on a book chosen from a long list. we had three test and a final, which were all fairly easy if you read the book and look over all of the powerpoints. participation counts for 20% of your grade, and we had article summaries to do. Overall Worthington is an awesome professor who is very helpful. Take this class in the summer with Worthington if you can!  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:4385 - He is really nice. Class seems like its going to be a lot of work but it is not. The key is to figure out the simulation early and do well on it! Tests are harder than they should be- he doesn't lecture much so you have to actually read the book to do well on the test. Other than that, he's really nice, gives easy quiz and homework grades, and is super enthusiastic. I'm taking him for another class next semester!  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:Strategic - He is without a doubt the most ethusiastic, interested professor I have had. Genuinely nice guy, all too eager to help. His tests are fairly hard. Class average on each test was 76 74 66. However, his participation is worth TWO test grades. Addionally, Capsim helps out a lot. I was avearge on tests and maintained an A. BEST PROFESSOR IN A LONG TIME!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:BUS 4385 - Worthington is an awesome guy. Here is the lowdown on his class. - Revolves around Capstone Simulation, do well here and you'll be fine. Keep up with the online homework though. - Tests are typical buzz-word scantron. "What is not part of ______'s strategy diamond?" - Effective teacher and lecturer. - ALWAYS AVAILABLE. I would definitely take again.  - Grade In Class:B+
