*A 5 star workload is an easy workload; a 3 star is average; whereas a 1 star workload is extremely hard.
Comments:Christian Scriptures - The best religion professor on campus! Dr. Coker is a wonderful professor. I personally enjoyed the way he taught class because he's clearly very passionate and knowledgeable about the subject. I appreciate his efforts to get to know all his students on a personal level and make sure we're doing well outside of his class. We had weekly 10-question quizzes based on the readings, Bible reading logs that were collected 2 times in the semester, and 1 paper. His workload is pretty light. Just make sure to take notes during lectures because all exam material is lecture based. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:REL 1350 - Not sure why this man has such a low rating given how good he is. He's super chill and laid back, and his lectures are really good (not boring or slow). The course is basically broken up into thirds, with 3 exams and the last one counting as the final. As long as you take good/half decent notes during the lectures, the exams really aren't that bad. He doesn't post his slides to Canvas, but he does provide really helpful (like seriously helpful) study guides for each exam that cover around 70% of the exam content (the remaining 30% you have to be in-class for). Dr. Coker also curves the exams by a pretty hefty margin. In addition to the exams, there's weekly reading quizzes on Canvas that are open book open note. The quizzes can be a little trickier than the exams, but still very doable. There are also 4 papers throughout the semester: 2 worship service papers and 2 primary source papers. None are remotely challenging and are pretty easy 100s. While this does all seem like a lot, you'll be surprised at how simple it is, and Dr. Coker provides several extra credit opportunities. Highly recommend taking him if you can get a spot in his class. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:REL 1310, 1350 - Definitely take him if you can. Super helpful, eager to see students succeed. Exams are easy if you pay attention in class, worth 21% of the final grade each. There\'s extra credit, and 15% of the final grade is made up of the NSE checklist, a 500-page papers, and reading logs-all pretty much completion grades. Weekly reading quizzes are kinda hard, worth 22%, and even after close reading the text felt impossible, and the lectures felt a little dry, but overall for a course everyone has to take, I\'d recommend him. Gives super helpful study guides, and curves every exam. Easy A. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:REL 1310 - Easiest class I've had at Baylor. He's very helpful and always curves his tests (which are easy to begin with if you attend class and take lecture notes). Not at all sure why he has bad ratings... Can't recommend him enough for Christian Scriptures. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1350 - Dr.Coker is a great teacher, and he is hilarious. His tests are a bit tough, especially the first one. Studying the study guide, he gives (word for word) covers 75% of the exam. His study guide is just his PowerPoint printed out, which could have been more helpful. He does not post his slides in Canvas. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1350 - Dr. Coker gives great lectures, his powerpoints are so fire and he's funny. You'll have some reading and a quiz every week but it isn't bad at all. His exams are really straightforward but you do need to study a lot. I highly recommend!! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:REL3344 - Dr. Coker is absolutely amazing! He is an incredible teacher and explains the material so well. The content is also really really fascinating. Grades are a midterm worth 25%, a final worth 25%, three papers worth 25%, twelve quizzes (but he drops the lowest two) on homework readings worth 20%, and a presentation worth 5%. The exams do require you to be pretty confident on the material but they’re half multiple choice and the final isn’t cumulative. Plus he is an extremely generous grader when it comes to papers and the quizzes are open book. He doesn't have office hours but is free to talk after class. Enjoyed every single class and learned tons. Cannot recommend this class and Dr. Coker enough. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1310 - Super easy class and tests. I'd recommend Coker - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1310 - personally i really liked coker for heritage. his lectures weren't the most boring ever, and he always had a good few jokes in them. weekly quizzes online that were from the reading for class weren't too hard because they were unofficially open note, but it's best if you try to do them without notes because they're very similar to the tests. tests weren't that difficult if you kept up with the reading and paid attention in class. we had a couple of essays scattered throughout the class but they weren't difficult at all and he went easy on grading for the whole class. i'm taking him again next semester! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1310 - I almost failed this class because his tests were so horrible. I FAILED almost every test I took of his. The problem with the tests were that he would put questions that I had studied, but he wanted a very specific answer. I could never read his mind and answer exactly as he wanted. I grew up in a Christian Private school and have taken classes over the same material, but his tests just killed me. If you have the opportunity to avoid taking him, just do yourself a favor and take someone else. He has lots of knowledge on the topics, but DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO TEACH WELL OR BE A GOOD PROFESSOR. - Grade In Class:C
Comments:1310 - Professor Coker is alright. Go to class and you'll be fine on tests. Very boring, hard to stay awake. He has 4 tests and 2 papers on books you need to read in which he will ask you questions. Also he has weekly quizzes, read the book! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1310 - His teaching style is very straightforward, only covers material that is on the test. Take notes and listen to his lectures and you will pass. No homework at all, weekly quizzes, three multiple-choice tests, and one essay. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1305 - Coker is so friendly and I'd definitely recommend taking his class! The exams and quizzes were not too bad and most were open note. He also drops the lowest quiz grade and has a 2% extra credit paper. Just try to stay focused bc sometimes the lectures can feel slow/boring but not bad. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:REL 1310 - Great class, the exams are based completely off of the powerpoints. He also gives you a review sheet with everything on it. I think the only thing that can be a bit difficult is the weekly quizzes but if you read and take notes before hand you should be good. I recommend taking this class. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1310 - I highly recommend taking this profesor given the chance!! He is a great professor and has a very little workload! I highly recommend!! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1310 - It was a daily struggle to stay awake in his class. Not exciting, not fun. But if you pay attention and put in some effort, you can succeed. I got a B+ instead of an A because I had his class in the middle of the afternoon when I should've been napping. Little homework, but tests were actually challenging- you need to basically know EVERYTHING he explains in the class, no matter how big or small. Test material came straight from material in class, so you cannot skip class or fall asleep like I did. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:Scriptures - Dr. Coker is a funny guy, so his lectures weren't very boring. His tests were 50 multiple choice, and I never did very well on them, but I didn't spend an enormous amount of time studying either. I made an A because the Bible reading logs, writing assignment, and extra credit assignment were pretty easy. He is also willing to meet outside of class, or just answer questions right after lecture, and we even got out of class early a few times. I would recommend him, unless you can get one of the religion profs with a 85+ rating - Grade In Class:A
Comments:REL1310 - You may not die but you probably won't thrive. There are MUCH easier Scriptures classes, but Coker isn't one of them. I worked very hard in his class and did all of the assigned readings and studied more than I did for all my other classes and still struggled on the tests. 1-3 Bible logs required each week with 5-10 chapters of reading required for each. Also weekly online quizzes over Scriptures "textbook." He also requires another book to be read for a writing assignment, whjch NO OTHER sections had to do. He's a nice guy, but his class is a bit of a struggle. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1310 - His class is pretty hard to stay awake in during lectures, but overall the class isn't bad. There are 3 tests, he provides a detailed study guide that goes over about 70% of the material of the test, and then the other 30% comes from your notes. You have weekly reading quizzes , which you actually have to read the book to do well on. He does offer credit, and is a pretty chill guy. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:REL 1350 - You have a reading assignment along with a 10 question quiz every week through canvas. He gives you only 3 exams which wont be hard if you actually study his Study Guides which covers about 70% of the notes that comes from his powerpoint slides and the other 30% which you would need to be in class to take. It's not really a discussion based class so if you're someone like me who didn't have a lot of background knowledge, i would just take him. Dr. coker is a very nice professor and i find him very consistent and clear in his words which made it easy to follow along in his lectures. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1310 - Professor Coker is a great guy but his class is really hard. I'm a pretty good test taker, but his tests are impossible. There are a bunch of trick questions, the review he gives you in class does not cover the tests, and by the end of the semester, you want to give up. He does do extra credit which is really nice, and the final is not cumulative. He's a very understanding professor, and really wants his students to excel, but overall he is a hard professor. He curved some of our tests grades and drops the lowest 2 quiz grades. The quizzes were more difficult than I thought they were going to be, and there is a time limit. I read each time and failed multiple quizzes. The last quiz you take in class is impossible and most people failed it. Overall he is a great professor, but his material and tests are hard. If you want a challenging course, then take him, otherwise, take another professor. - Grade In Class:C+
Comments:1310 - First of all his class is hard to stay awake in, he does go over the material pretty well but it was too fast paced for me. His tests are hard and only 50-70 of the test is from the review. He doesn't curve the tests. The good things about him is that he will let you look over the test in class after he has graded them and is does offer extra credit. There are weekly quizzes that are pretty easy if you actually read his book However I studied for several hours and got a 70 on a test so be prepared to study a lot. If you could take another teacher I would. - Grade In Class:DROP
Comments:1310 - It is almost impossible to stay awake in his class. There were only about 12 people in my class and no one ever payed attention. He has a no cell phone policy but literally everyone in class had their phone out and never payed attention. I didn't like this class because it was unnecessarily hard. This a religion class not a Calculus class. He never posted his slides on canvas so if you missed a slide cause he was going to fast then it sucks for you. His tests are strictly on his slides in class and his lectures. I noticed he mumbles a lot in his lectures which can be annoying. His tests were hard which aggravated me because I never made an A and if you don't do well on the first test then you are kinda screwed because the first exam is 23 percent of your class average. The other exams are not like that just the first one. There are only two tests and then the final so there is no room to makeup for a bad grade. even if you make a 100 on all the quizzes which I did your grade is still bad if you didn't do well on the first test. Overall I hated this class. It screwed up my 4.0 gpa. The fact that I had a 4.0 and got a C in this class shows how hard this class is. I don't know about any of the other rel 1310 professors, but don't take Coker it's not worth it at all. - Grade In Class:C
Comments:1310 - A Haiku Oh Joe What A Guy / My Only B What The Heck / Average Teacher / - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1310 - Professor Coker is a pretty mediocre teacher. The toughest thing about this class was staying awake during his lectures. His study guides only cover about 50-70% of what is on the test. He will often put test questions on things he only mentioned once in class. You have to do about 15-20 pages of reading from the book each week and then take a timed quiz on the reading and a short video (the quizzes are open book), but the quizzes are pretty easy. Also, and this really only applies if you are a Christian, but I am, and I often felt like he was trying to convince us not to be...for instance he pretty much flat out claimed that most of Genesis did not actually happen; I wasn't expecting to feel as if my religion was being attacked in a religion class at a Baptist university. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1301 - This is one of those classes that your grade really reflects the amount of effort you put in the class. He has low ratings on this website, but I had no issues with him whatsoever. There are online quizzes based off of the readings, but they are pretty straightforward and they are open book (but they are timed, so make sure you put sticky notes on thing you think is important so you can flip back to it later on the quizzes). He also drops the lowest quiz or two. The exams are exactly like the notes, and are all from the lectures. On Fridays he wouldn't lecture, but he did some sort of related activity. Attendance is essential since he does take it. It won't affect your grade but if you miss too many classes he follows the attendance policy and will fail you. Overall, he's a great professor and the class is really interesting. I learned a lot, and you don't need to have any religious background in order to do well. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Rel 1310 - I do not recommend Coker at all. His tests are extremely difficult and based upon his lectures that he does not post on canvas so if you miss absolutely anything you're pretty much screwed. His reviews also did not have everything he put on his tests. - Grade In Class:D
Comments:1310 - Dr. Coker is a really nice guy and a great teacher. His class is pretty simple if you print off the exam review ahead of time to take notes on during lecture. He has online quizzes once a week that are sometimes tricky. He offers some great extra credit and does his best to make the class entertaining for his students. Overall, he really cares about his students, and wants them to succeed. I definitely recommend taking Dr. Coker! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:3330 - This class is pretty easy. There was a book report, weekly quizzes over reading, 3 exam, and a 9 page research paper. He grades pretty easily and his exams are straight from the lecture. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Christian Scriptures - Dr. Coker is rough. His tests focus mainly on things he only mentioned in passing during class. I would highly suggest finding another teacher to take. His quizzes are once a week, which is a pain, though you have to read thoroughly to do well. The tests are what will do you in though. Also, his TA is a scrub and doesn't head up any SIs. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:1350 - Overall, this class was alright. Dr. Coker was very fair when it came to grading. The class lectures covered pretty much everything you need to know for the tests, so that was helpful. However, we had online quizzes over readings every week which were REALLY hard. His class is a little boring, but he did his best to keep us entertained with his Flipped Fridays thing. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:Christian Scriptures - Dr. Coker is a really good guy. The one annoying thing is he gives you the study guide to his test before you take notes, so there's very little need to take notes. You can get an A in the class just by reviewing the study guides. I would recommend taking notes first and then reading the study guide, otherwise you'll just sit in class on your phone the whole time. Or use the studyguide to take notes on. Dr. Coker has three tests, non-cummulative, and two opportunities for extra credit which bumped my grade from a B+ to an A. He's also on the plus system without the minus system #godbless. The one thing that bothered me is that he would often provide evidence as to why the bible is questioned in its validity, but would never express why he's still a christian knowing this. Would highly recommend Dr. Coker. I'm taking him next semester. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:REL 1310 - Coker is easily one of the nicest professors here at Baylor, but I gotta say, I didn't learn very much, if any, in this class. To start off he only gives 3 tests including the final, so if you tank one of the tests good luck with trying to save your grade. Second, he gives quizzes over readings in the book on canvas over the week, which are extremely difficult. It's 10 very specific questions with a 15 minute time limit so you have to know the information to a T in order to make a 100 on the quizzes each week. His tests are for the most part, extremely easy. Most of the information for the tests is either from in class, or from the review. That saying, since it's not over a bucketload of material you need to basically know the review by the back of your hand to make an A on the tests. I haven't really had to try in the class all semester, which is disappointing because I really do want to be challenged in the class. To be honest, I probably won't remember a thing he taught us after the final. If you want to truly learn in your religion class, I would not take him. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:REL 1310 - WOW... I took Coker because he seems to have really great reviews on here. I studied like crazy for his tests and made a C on two of them and a D on the last one! He is definitely no longer just testing off of the review as mentioned (including by him in class) and many minute questions whose topics were brought up once (IF EVER) were on his tests. DO NOT RECOMMEND! - Grade In Class:C
Comments:1310 - I LOVED THIS CLASS.The quizzes are once a week. Only over the required reading or the posting online. Not hard 10 questions in 10 minutes. Very simple questions but you should read or atleast skim. I never made lower than a 80. You also drop two of the lowest quizzes. The tests are over the study guides. Study and you won't fail. The lectures are more theoretical than facts. STUDY ANYTHING HE WRITE ON THE BOARD. IF HE SPELLS IT YOU SHOULD WRITE IT. But do consider that I literally love religion and I am thinking about minoring in it because of Coker. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1310 - DO NOT TAKE. I studied harder for this class than any of my others (all classes that, in theory, should be harder than religion). If you\'re looking for a struggle, and intense study sessions, just to maintain a B, you\'ve found the right guy. He picks extremely minutiae topics to test over, and the quizzes are a pain. Hated this class. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:Scriptures - He is very clear and concise when he teaches, adds a bit of humor from time to time, gives next to no homework, and is a genuinely nice guy. He gives 2 tests, a final, and incredibly easy online open book quizzes that are each worth 25% of your grade. You even learn! All around great professor. I heavily suggest him. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1310 - I absolutely hated this way he teaches. I know my grade is a D, but he really sucks to me. I did not learn a thing, and it was just not a great way to start the semester off.... Now, I knew who not to take for Christian Heritage, Dr. Sadler is a little scatter brained, but he is great, and I enjoy him know, so I would recommend taking him for Christian Scriptures. - Grade In Class:D
Comments:3330, 3344, 4300 - Dr. Coker is one of the most straight forward professors at Baylor and as long as you care about the subject material of the course, you'll enjoy him. Lectures off of a PowerPoint and provides you with the information you need for exams. The required papers are always fairly discretionary and graded pretty easily. Quizzes are given intermittently, but aren't meant to trick you and have little impact on your final grade. There's a reason I've taken him three times. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Christian Heritage - Dr. Coker is a great professor! He really enjoys what he teaches and throws a bit of humor into the class too. There are two tests, a final and weekly online, reading quizzes. Before each test he puts a review online that are pretty much word-for-word his lectures. They are kinda lengthy but if you pay attention in class, they're no problem to memorize. I spent about 8 hours studying for the first test and got an 88 and about 3-4 hours studying for the second and got a 74. Just memorize the review and you will ace the test. THE TESTS ARE LITERALLY STRAIGHT FROM THE REVIEW. I liked him a lot. There's never any homework. It's a pretty easy workload. If you don't like taking religion classes, like me, TAKE HIM. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:1310 - He knows what he's teaching and does a good job of teaching it. He puts his powerpoints on Blackboard so that's helpful for before exams. There are three exams, non cumulative (THIS IS GOOD FOR YOU NON RELIGION MAJORS.), and the third one is the final exam. His exams are multiple choice/matching, and straight from his lectures, so I recommend you go to class. He also has a weekly reading quiz, which is straight from the reading assignments. The separation between exam/lectures and quiz/readings is really nice. One tip though-- don't look at his ppts during lectures. They're already on blackboard, so I'd recommend printing them out and bringing them to class so you can write your notes next to them, or just writing what he says. His ppts just give general points, not the specifics, and he tests on the specifics. Anyways. Take him if you can, he's great. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Christian Scriptures - Short Answer: TAKE HIM! Long Answer: He is VERY good at explaining things and likes a little bit of class discussion. I learned a lot from this class and really unexpectantly enjoyed it. Whether you are Christian or not, this class is great for anyone. He teaches from a very unbiassed perspective that is VERY respectable. CLASS SET UP- Power points that he lectures from the whole time. Power points are online, but they only have about 70% of the info you need on them. He has three tests and a noncumulative final along with weekly EASY quizzes. He drops your two lowest quizzes as well. The quizzes are over the reading assignments, and the tests/final are over the lectures. Not to mention, he even gave two bonus points on your FINAL AVERAGE if you did this super quick and easy extra credit thing online. You definitely need to pay attention in class, but it's pretty easy to! He's a pretty cool guy, and he holds the class' attention pretty well. He also had an SI, but I didn't go to a single session and still made an A in the class. He plays music before class starts, and he let's class out early sometimes! Oh, and he cancelled class the week of Thanksgiving. ADVICE FOR IF YOU ARE TAKING HIM- Go to all lectures. Pay attention. Use a laptop to take notes. (He can skip through slides pretty quick) Read the assignments, but you don't need to read very in depth. Just get the gist of what's going on and take the quiz, because you can also look back and check! For tests- memorize characteristics and dates! Hope that helps! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1310 - Dr. Coker is the best religion professor. He understands that everyone is required to take the class and not everyone is a religion major. There are weekly online quizzes that are not hard, but you do need to at least skim the reading assignment if you don't come from a religious background. The tests cover a lot of material, but the material is much more general and reasonable than other religion classes. I've learned a ton from this class and really enjoyed it. Dr. Coker is extremely approachable and extremely nice. He welcomes questions in class and explains things very clearly. Super laid back, good guy. Extra plus: he almost always lets class out a good 15-30 minutes early. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:1350 - This class was very easy. Dr. Cocker is great, and he teaches the course well. I like anything to do with religion, and I really enjoyed his class. There are 3 tests that are not cumulative, and he curves them as well. As long as you go to class and take notes you will be fine. There is a quiz over the reading every week, after the 3rd week I stopped reading, and began Googling my way through the quizzes and never got lower than an 80%. He also drops 2 of your lowest quiz grades. Overall, if you can, take Dr. Cocker - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1310 - Really nice guy and extremely smart, but a dry class. Test were pretty much straight from lectures. I struggled because of my lack of motivation to learn biblical history. - Grade In Class:C+
Comments:REL 1310 - I don't understand why Dr. Coker isn't rated higher. He is a great lecturer, who clearly understands and is passioante about the subject. At the same time he is very fair and is very conscious of the fact that his class is a university requirement. 3 exams, each worth 25% of your grade are based ENTIRELY on the lecture material, so make sure to take solid notes, and study them at least 3-4 days before the exam. 10 online quizzes make up the remaining 25%, and they are fairly straightforward as long as you skim the book ahead of time. This is the kind of class where you get the grade you put into it - listen in class, work hard, and you\'ll do fine. Not too sure about his availability, though I know that he only does appointment office hours instead of open office hours like most professors. Recommend him highly overall. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1350 - Heritage - Dr. Coker isn't the most interesting professor, but he gets the job done. I thought he taught very well, and his class is easy to succeed in if you study the notes from class. I don't have anything bad to say about him, but I don't have anything particularly good either. He does his job, and that's about it. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:3330 - Dr. Coker's class is really easy to succeed in. You do several big papers but they're graded pretty easily if you do the assignment correctly - Grade In Class:A
Comments:REL 1310 - Dr. Cocker is a good easy teacher. I didnt study hard for this final so that dropped me to a B+ instead of an A. Purely my fault. His test are easy, straight from the notes. His quizzes are easier, only the reading. Make sure you do all the quizzes you can, and get 100's. If you study your notes, saying you take good notes, you will do fine on the test. He even gives you reviews, and his final isnt cumulative. Overall I would suggest him, easy class, and generally good professor. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:1310 - Probably the best teacher to have for scriptures. You can pass the weekly online quizzes by skimming. The tests are only on what he says and not on the reading. The final is just another unit test. He was realistic about the limitations of the Bible while also clearly being a man of faith. Scriptures is going to be lame, but it's slightly less lame with Coker. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1310 - Coker was awesome. Only one (easy) quiz a week and one or two chapters of short reading. The tests are pretty easy as long as you take notes and pay attention in class. He plays music at the beginning and end of class which was pretty cool, and sometimes the music would tie in with the lecture. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1350 - Coker is a great professor - his lectures are traditional in nature; he lectures off a powerpoint adding insight from the points presented. It would be wise to take notes with a healthy balance between his insight and bullet points, as both are tested evenly come exam time. The class is "easy" in the sense that test questions are predictable so as long as you study your notes. His quizzes can be difficult at times, but he provides two extra credit assignments which raise your grade by one point. His lectures can be interpreted as mundane if you are not engaged, however he asks many questions which help apply and solidify his lessons. With that being said, take Coker if you would like a consistent and fair professor. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Scriptures - Awful teacher. I don't recommend him at all. He doesn't teach anything at all in class, and the exams are hard. He's boring. The only high point is he gives easy online quizzes once a week, but they're not worth much. When compared to other Scriptures classes, our class learned nothing we were supposed to, and that was made clear in the final. - Grade In Class:C+
Comments:1310 - Coker is great. He keeps in mind that we all have to take his class, and somehow makes it more bearable. He plays music at the beginning of class which is cool. He is also a great lecturer and I found the material interesting. The tests aren't bad but you do have to study. It's just over the powerpoints and what he lectures on so go to class and take notes and you'll be fine. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:Christian Scriptures - This class is a joke. Throughout the semester I did not do one reading assignment but still got A's on the online quizzes. It isn't even necessary to attend the lectures, as long as you read the book. The tests are difficult so study for them; however, his power points are not very helpful. His tests cover the most minute things that he talks about during class. An A is definitely achievable as long as you go to class and take notes. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1310 - I would highly recommend taking Dr. Coker only if you are looking for an easy workload. The workload is easy, because of online quizzes and simple/short reading. However, be prepared to attend every lecture, take in depth notes (do NOT rely just on his powerpoints), and study hard for the tests. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:Scriptures 1310 - Coker is a really nice, kinda awkward guy. Scriptures as a subject is really interesting and poses some great questions but, honestly, I got really bored of listening to him talk and talk while using the powerpoint slides. Unfortunately, you wont really be able to make it in his class if you skip class or ignore him during the presentation because he adds to the slides that he puts on Blackboard. I hardly ever used the Inspiration and Incarnation book that he made us buy, but the weekly quizzes he gave us out of the Intro to the Bible book were super easy and open-book/notes. They really boost your grade in this class. Not a super easy A, but an A is easily achievable if you put in a little bit of effort. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1310 - lots of reading but online quizzes are really easy. His lectures are really boring but tests are not too bad if you study/cram the day before. everything on the tests are off of powerpoints and his lectures and he puts every powerpoints on blackboard. I would take him again if i have to. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1350 - Although this was a course i really did not like (subject wise) he managed to put some interesting aspects into it. Its a pretty easy course if you love history and if you take notes on the powerpoint slides he gives you. Only 2 tests and a final and the final is not comprehensive, so once you study for a test and take the test then you can forget it all right after. Homework wise its just reading and taking a short 10 question quiz over the reading from the comfort of your own laptop. altogether he was a nice proffesor and pretty easy going, so i would recommend him for this course. - Grade In Class:C+
Comments:1350 - Take him. He's great. There are two tests and a final. It's an easy A. The only reason I got an 88 was because I didn't do well on the online quizzes (mostly because I forgot to take them...) The tests come straight from the powerpoints. The only thing about his tests that are difficult are the short answer at the end. But even those are easy if you know everything on the slides. He's a really funny guy who tries his best to make religion interesting. And definitely do the extra credit assignments! They're easy points!! - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:REL 1350 - OMFG TAKE COKER!!! After the nightmare I had in Scriptures this guy was a godsend. You have 3 tests which are ALL from his powerpoints, which he posts online. However, he adds to them in class, so you really should attend. I would always ask him a bunch of questions before tests too- he always answered them and sometimes pretty much gave me test answers. If you ask, he'll always straight-up tell what'll be on the test and what to study; no needless studying of a topic that won't even be on the test. Once a week you'll have an online quiz over a book, which can be a pain (usually quite a chunk). However, since its online, it's open-book, open-google, open-roommate, so you should never do that badly. Ten questions, ten minutes. Never got lower than a 70, and he drops your lowest one or two, can't remember. You can also write an extra credit paper for up to ten points on your quiz average. Final is also non-cumulative and identical in format to the other tests. Lectures can be boring tho, I advise you to take a laptop if you have one. TAKE THIS GUY, YOU'LL BE GLAD YOU DID. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Heritage - Coker is a great teacher! It can be pretty boring sometimes, but he's definately one of the best choices to take. Memorize powerpoints for the tests and you'll get a 100. You can tell he's a nerd but he's a tight guy - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1350 - I really enjoyed this class! Dr. Coker is an excellent professor! We only had two tests and the final. Just take notes along with the power points and you'll do great! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Rel 1310 - If you print out the slides before every class and bring them to take notes with, meaning write things down that he says and aren't on the PowerPoint or sometimes his powerpoints have things added. Then study that, and put emphasis on names, dates and movements you'll do great on the tests! For the quizzes READ, these were the hardest, only ten min to take it and you read like 20-40 pages. Have friends rotate taking them then give each other the answers given at the end. Also do the extra credit. He doesn't even read it! - Grade In Class:C
Comments:1350 - I really liked Dr. Coker. He lectures off of powerpoint slides, which are posted on Blackboard. Print them out before class! They help so much when taking notes, since there's information he goes over that may not always be on the powerpoints. The readings are generally not too bad. Do your best to keep up with them, since the quizzes are all derived from the readings, and your quiz average comprises a pretty big chunk of your grade. The tests are not bad at all if you've paid attention and kept up with the material. There's also an extra credit opportunity--take it! It'll help your grade in class, and it's not a hard assignment either. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:4341 - Christian Missions. This was an awesome class that really opened my mind to some different perspectives on mission work. Every Tuesday, Coker would lecture, and every Thursday we'd circle up our desks and discuss a different topic. There were quizzes almost every class period, so you have to do the reading, but it really wasn't too terrible. The class consists of a mid-term and a final, quiz grades, a 10-12 page research paper (on a topic of your choice = awesome!!), and like five or six blog entries that take about five minutes each. The course is easy, and the class itself is great. Coker did lots to help us out, such as giving an extension on the paper and ten extra quiz points, and being understanding of anything that we needed help with. I loved the class and the prof. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1350 - Dr. Coker is a really nice man, and has a very easy Christian Heritage class. I thought he was a very good lecturer, and he kept my interest for most of the class period. He teaches using powerpoints which you can print off before class. Printing them off helps SO much...I have no idea why everyone around me didn't print them off. He goes over each point on every slide then will add a couple details which you can easily make note of on the printed slides. If you take decent notes and study them well, the tests will be a breeze. There were 2 tests and a final, all worth 25%. The other 25% was your quiz average. Every week there was an online quiz over assigned reading. Take notes while you read and the quizzes will be a breeze as well. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:REL 1350 - Not a tough class but you do need to read for his quizes and pay close attention to things. The questions on it aren't main points of the readings, it's little details. There's not enough time to look up much if you don't know exactly where the question is coming from. The quizes are every Friday over about 40 pages from the book and also a reading that he posts on Blackboard. The tests are not over the book though, they are solely over his lectures. You need to take good notes, I didn't on the first two tests and it cost me. Just studying the powerpoints will not be enough if you want a good grade. There is only 3 tests in this class. Each is worth 25% of your grade, the final is the 3rd test. Your quiz average accounts for the last 25%, and he now only drops one quiz grade. There is ONE opportunity for extra credit where you go attend a church service different from your own and write a 2 page paper over it for 10 points added to your final quiz grade. Since your quiz average is basically the same weight as a test score, the extra credit here does help a lot. - Grade In Class:C
Comments:Rel 1350 - It is very easy to get an A but the class is soooooo boring. Coker is a very nice guy though! I never once took notes. He has all the PowerPoint’s online, so I just printed those off and used them to study. The test’s are purely from the lectures. Luckily my roommate who is very studious took notes so I just looked at hers to study for tests. So if you can find someone who is an academic, then befriend him or her. Basically the class has 3 tests including the final, each worth 25% of your grade. Then your quiz average is the other 25%. There are 12 online quizzes with 10 questions each and he drops the lowest 2. You are allowed to use any resources you can on the quizzes: book, Google, roommate, but you only have 10 minutes to finish the quiz. One time I didn’t read and just used Google and got a 100. Another time I read the assigned reading and got an 80. The quizzes can be difficult but once you figure out the system, they’re very doable. I think I ended with a 93 quiz average and I didn’t always read. The Tests are not bad although the 1st test and the final were much harder than the 2nd test, which I though was weird. Basically if you know the PowerPoint and your notes then you should be able to make a high B or A. The test is 50 MC, 15 Matching, and 5 short answer. I found the MC questions to be the hardest because there would always be a handful that I didn’t know at all. The best part about the class is the extra credit opportunity that he offers. You go to a church service that is different from your denominational background and you write a 2-page paper on it. Then you get 10 points added to your lowest test grade or quiz average! I am pretty sure he doesn’t read them because he had the 10 points added the same day I turned it in and there were like 50 essays to grade. One time Coker let me take a test early and worked around my schedule to let me take it. Super sweet guy! I would recommend Coker for the easy A for sure, but if you want a more interesting class than take someone else. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1350 - Dr. Coker is just awful. He is THE most boring lecturer...and I prefer teachers that mostly just talk. Two fifty minute classes cover like 20 pages in the book he assigns, which is actually pretty interesting. He gives few guidelines for the paper you have to write, and is pretty unapproachable when it comes to grade adjustment. I sat in his class and read every single day, paid no attention. If you study the powerpoints really well, which are all online from like day one, you'll be fine. Easy teacher. And super lame. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1350 - Coker is possibly the worst teacher to get for religion. He says things aren't on the test and then adds a lot of questions about those topics. He won't give a review sheet because he says the powerpoint has it all...it doesn't. His class is very boring, it feels like you're in there for hours at a time. I would highly recommend you do NOT get him at all costs. Terrible teacher - Grade In Class:C+
Comments:REL 1310 - Dr. Coker is awesome! His tests are really easy if you take notes in class and print off his powerpoints and study those. His tests and final are NOT cumulative which is really nice when finals time comes around. His quizzes are a little more difficult but he gives extra credit quizzes to boost that grade and as long as you actually read the assignments you will be fine. He also does have writing assignments but they are only a paragraph long and they boost your grade. Overall, you should take Dr. Coker if you want to learn about religion and make an A. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1310 - If you just are looking for an easy grade, then take Coker. His tests are easy and you have the opportunity to make a 120 on your cumulative quiz grade. However, if you happen to believe in the Bible and respect it in anyway, run from this professor. We spent 90% of the class discovering how much of the Bible can't be trusted because "we don't know for sure who the author was" or "it was meant to be a satire or hypothetical work." I would recommend taking someone else if you don't want to deal with that all semester. But, if that doesn't matter to you, then go ahead and take him. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Religion 1310.26 - He is very boring and will put you to sleep. However, he is a nice guy. His voice is annoying though because he says "um" in every sentence. He gives a lot of extra credit. His quizzes are very detailed and difficult so you have to do the reading he assigns. He makes you buy all of the books and do a lot of outside reading. Overall I hated this class because I hated having to do detailed reading so I always did poorly on the quizzes. And we were quizzed every day so we had to come to class. I found his voice super annoying and it put me to sleep so overall this was my least favorite class. - Grade In Class:C
Comments:Religion 1350 - Good teacher and very interested in the subject material, which makes the lectures more interesting. Super nice guy! I got sick and missed an exam, and he let me take it with the next class - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1350 - I had Dr. Coker for religion 1350 minimester. Class was 3 hours long! He made the class very interesting & he is a very nice professor. I would reccommend taking this class. oh yeah! Test are easy and quizzes are a little more challenging - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1350 - Coker was really great for 1350. I took him after having the infamous Dr. Holleyman for Scriptures, and I loved both professors. I had never studied the Bible or religion at all before coming here, and made an A in both courses because I was so interested. Coker makes the class very do-able with review sheets for every test (which are the only things I studied and got an A on the first two tests and an 88 on the final). He offers more extra credit than any other professor I've had, with five points on your quiz average and an available ten points to add to any test. Only quizzes (25%), and three exams, (75%) in this class, but again...if you are very thorough on the review, you will excel. The weekly quizzes, however, were hard and you have to read VERY carefully or make an organized pattern in your book so you know where to go to look them up in ten minutes. I honestly was fascinated by Coker's lectures and really really, as nerdy as this is, enjoyed applying and pondering the information I learned. I learned an incredible amount. The tests aren't hard, but you must study to do well. Coker isn't too popular yet, but he's also new. I feel like he will soon be a Baylor great like Dodson or Holleyman. He is unbiased, very helpful (understanding if an online quiz messes up) and has the exam grades posted just a couple hours after you take it. I strongly recommend Coker. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1350 - If you read previous comments from semesters before, he recently changed his format. Instead of in class quizzes, he does them all online so you can use your book/notes etc...He teaches from powerpoints but make sure you take down lecture notes as he goes along cause his powerpoints don't say everything. He posts them all online. He gives out a study guide and I strictly studied that and made A's on the tests. He's super helpful too cause there have been times I have had last minute questions before exams and I e-mailed him and he e-mailed me back pretty quick. His teaching isnt the most interesting cause it's straight from powerpoints but I would say it's ridiculously easy. Supposedly everyone says take Sadler cause he's easy but you have to understand his test questions cause they are pretty biased. Some say take Bryant or Weaver. For me though, I made an easy A in here so I would definitely take him again if I had to. AND he gives extra credit. He's really understanding too like if you go over the time on your online quiz. It will give you a zero cause it's all electronic and obviously you went over the time, but a lot of times he goes back and gives you credit if you didn't go over more than 30 seconds or so. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1350 - Coker is an awesome teacher! I was really worried going into this class because of some of the ratings on here, but there is absolutely nothing to worry about with him! He has quizzes every week, but they're open notes/open book/you can google the question if you have time. His tests are very straight forward and often times right from the review. I'm done with religion classes now, but if I wasn't I'd definitely take Coker again! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1310 - He's not the easiest religion teacher at Baylor, but he's also not the hardest. His daily quizzes are quite detailed for something that was read the night before which came as a frustration to some, and you should definitely study everything, not just the review he hands out. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:REL 1310 - I disagree with some of the comments on here: Coker is just about the easiest Religion teacher you could ask for. He doesn't hand you an A, but he does let you know exactly how to get one. He makes a powerpoint for every class, gives you a study guide for every test (the final isn't comprehensive, by the way!), and quizzes you on homework readings to beef up your score. If you do the reading and look over your notes before a test, there's no reason you shouldn't do well in this class. He made me think a lot about why I believe the things I believe, which is what we all hope our Religion teacher will be able to offer- an opinion that is different an unaccusing. I liked him so much I'm taking him for Honors Heritage next semester. :) - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1350 - His tests are impossible. Very confusing and worded in a misleading way. I studied for this class more than all of my other classes combined and barely scraped by with an A. He is nice enough himself, but I don't think teaching is his forte. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1310 - I personally didn't like his teaching style--He was sometimes boring and teaches straight from the powerpoints, which he posts later on Blackboard. Don't skip class though, he has a short quiz about every other class, and they're worth 20% of the grade. If you believe in the Bible's inerrancy, you may want to steer clear. All of the reading except perhaps one thing was written from a "historical" and "objective" (i.e., secular) perspective. He won't attack your views (whatever they are), but he always encourages reading the text "without any preconceptions." He also requires two review essays, but they're not too hard. Most of the questions are easy, and they're all taken from the powerpoints or reading. The extra credit for homework and one other thing gave me a super-high grade, even though it was an honors course. On the whole, an okay course and teacher, but could be better. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1310 - I really recommend Coker because, frankly, he is extremely easy- he gives extra credit, review sheets for the tests which have exactly what is on the tests, the tests are entirely multiple choice and matching, and the final is non-comprehensive. I found his lectures to be very interesting and though provoking, and, while they can be boring at times, writing down the powerpoints helps to keep engaged. He teaches through powerpoints which are put on blackboard, and the tests come straight from these powerpoints. He welcomes discussion and tries to work some humor into his lectures. He give quizes over the reading almost every class, and i found these quizes to be very easy after skimming the reading. With some exceptions, the reading assignments are relatively light and take little time. If you want to learn and also make a good grade i definitely recommend Coker. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1310 Christian Scriptures - Coker is a very smart teacher and he tries to make jokes now and then which makes you pay attention more. He often asks for student input which also keeps you awake. Sometimes it gets boring, but thats how many scripture classes are..take notes and it will help to keep you from falling asleep. His tests aren't too hard if you pay attention in class and read all of the books that he requires. Overall good teacher - Grade In Class:A
