*A 5 star workload is an easy workload; a 3 star is average; whereas a 1 star workload is extremely hard.
Comments:3300 - This class was tough for me, mainly because the professor’s politics consistently felt bigger than the school’s faith foundation. At a Christian university, I expected the material to be taught through a lens that aligns with the values Baylor is built on. Instead, the political messaging often overshadowed both the content and the faith-based environment we’re supposed to be learning in. It wasn’t the difference in viewpoints that bothered me, it was the way those viewpoints were pushed to the center of the class at the expense of biblical truth and balanced teaching. The course rarely incorporated Christ or Christian perspectives, and at times it almost felt like they were intentionally avoided. Overall, the class felt misaligned with Baylor’s mission and with what students expect from a course here. A refocus on the material, and on the faith this school is rooted in, would make it much stronger. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:ENG 1310 - Dr. Hanchey is incredible, and I would not have wanted any other professor for English. She wants all of her students to succeed. She was super kind. The only hard part of the class was keeping up with the amount of reading and then also the reading quizzes, which barely made a dent in my grade even when I didn't do well. Just really focus on your essays and have a strong writing ability. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:2301 - Take Dr.Hanchey! She is a professor who cares about the success of each student and wants them to actually take away things from the class. Every unit is two weeks, the first week being reading and then discussing and the second week being a "project" week where we take the readings and apply them to real life or our world today. Bi-weekly reading quizzes are easy if you attend class and word-art quizzes have powerpoints that say the answers. The projects are an easy A if you attend class. No midterm, no final, no cumulative quiz about readings. no textbook is required. She knows her students by name and cares so much about them! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:ENG 1310 - TAKE THIS CLASS!! If you have the opportunity to take Dr. Hanchey I absolutely suggest you do. Even as a freshman I know she is incomparable to other professors. I’ve heard so many of my peers complain about their English professors, but I don’t have a single complaint about her. She is so helpful with any questions you might have. Her class is a joy to be in, and it makes a 9am totally worth it. There is a decent amount of outside work, especially with readings, but it is totally manageable. With essays, she normally gives you some time in class to work on them. She is generous in grading and has honestly taught me a lot about reading and writing. 10/10 would recommend. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:2301 - ENG 2301 (Brit Lit): You will not regret deciding to take Dr. Hanchey. Her class is set up in order to be easiest on you. Each unit is split up between 2 weeks -- one week for reading and another week for a project. As long as you show up to class and do the work, it's almost impossible to get anything less than an A. Her class is engaging and she always has a 'life lesson' tied into the reading that makes it more interesting. Highly recommend her! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:ENG 2301 - TAKE HER TAKE HER TAKE HER!!! She is hands down my favorite professor I have had thus far at Baylor. The class is broken down into 8 units each consisting of an 'A' week and a 'B' week. An A week is designated as your reading week where each day before class you will have a reading, typically very small, and then you will spend the week discussing what you've read in class. At the end of the week there will be a reading quiz and a word are quiz that has a power point associated with it. A lot of the times you end up doing them together though, but for some reason of you do bad on it you get two attempts! The B week is the designated 'project' week, but usually ends up being a deeper discussion connecting the ideas you read about to real world topics. Most of the time if you show up to class everyday of the project week you get a 100 for that unit! Moral of the story I love this woman and you should take her class!! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1310 - Dr. Hanchey is the most passionate and sweetest professor I ever had a Baylor. She loves what she is doing and teaches in a way that is helpful for the future. She is very understanding of every situation and works to help her students in any way she can. I loved coming to her class and the way that she introduced concepts that we had to learn was both interactive and effective. The workload is not a lot. There are assignments and quizzes on Friday’s but often times she helps you and is meant to make sure you understand the material. She is an angel so take her if you can! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:2301 - Dr. Hanchey is a fantastic professor who is both passionate about her students and the subject of British Literature. The class is composed of tests and a poetry project (which, if you put in good effort, is a project you will make a 100 on) and some daily grades/essays. Regarding her tests, I would say 90% of the questions making up the tests are fair with the exception of some of the quotes she will have for identification. In my opinion, there are some quotes where, no matter how deeply you have read, you will not be able to narrow it down to one specific work from which it stems as some of the quotes are not at all obvious. Other than that, the tests are not bad and, if you have at the very least read detailed summaries of the books and have read the poems, you will be fine. Overall, Hanchey is a fantastic professor, and I would recommend her for the option of having a British Literature class not be boring as well as for the option of getting an A without devoting your life to reading. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Brit Lit - I was dreading this class but its probably my favorite one at Baylor. I never wanted to miss-EVER. This lady is an angel! The class was so entertaining and eye opening. Sure, every now and then I hated doing one of the (short) readings, but the class discussions were AMAZING. Everyone was always very engaged. Dr Hanchey is a ray of sunshine. I always felt on top of the world in her class- thats just how she makes you feel. Tests are easy and focus on your own insight, not hers, and she loves to hear what you think. She invited us over to her home for dinner! And the poetry project was really fun. I just want to hug this woman. TAKE HER BEFORE YOU GRADUATE, WHATEVER CLASS IT MAY BE! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1304 - Dr. Hanchey is one of the best professors I've ever had. I learned so much from her about my writing. She finds a way to make everything so interesting. She will really help you improve your writing, no matter what level you're at. I really loved her class and her as a mentor. She's great and I highly recommend her. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1304 - So yes yes yes Dr. Hanchey is very nice. But lets get to the class. There are 3 essays (Traditional, Rogerian, and the big huge too big research paper). She grades on the A- scale which makes her go down 50 points in my book, I just can't stand the A- scale. So you need a 93 for an A. There is one test besides the final but it is super easy and is usually a grade booster. I ended up getting decently bored in the class because the material is so dry, but maybe its me because everyone else on these reviews seems to genuinely want to play Candy Land with her while riding unicorns down 5th street. She does bring donuts some days, which is very thoughtful. What I did not like most about the class was there was no theme, I had Sorina Higgins for 1302 (miss her dearly), and gave the idea of "What does it mean to be human?" for her 1304 classes this year. It was so difficult for me to find out what to write about with no structure- that is what I did not like about this class. And the research paper is THIRTY FIVE PERCENT OF THE CLASS. IF YOU FAIL IT YOU FAIL. Though, Hanchey herself is almost too nice, if that is even a thing. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1304 - Dr. Hanchey is one of the sweetest professors at Baylor. I had her for ENG 1304 during the Summer and she was great. The workload during the summer is less than a normal 1304 class (1 less essay). She engages a lot with her students and is genuinely interested in them. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - Overall, one of the sweetest, most compassionate teachers you will find in all of Baylor University. She is not only concerned with how you are doing in her class but also with the everyday happenings of your life. She genuinely cares about each of her students and takes time out of her day if you need help por just want to talk. If you have the opportunity to take her, definitely do it! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:ENG 1302 - I can't tell you enough how much I enjoyed having Dr Hanchey as my english professor! She is so kind and patient with each and every student! She takes the time to get to know you and to really connect with you. She describes the unit in good detail and is very helpful with every essay you have to turn in. I would highly recommend her as your professor! You won't find another caring professor like Dr. Hanchey! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Eng 1302 - Dr. Hanchey is a wonderful professor!!! Extremely sweet, caring and helpful, she is probably the best English teacher at Baylor. She made her classes interesting and fun, yet helpful in explaining what she expected our writing to look like. She focuses on grammar and creativity in addition to paper organization. The homework and quizzes take a lot of involvement, but a portion of the overall grade is based on participation and the assignments are invaluable to making good grades on the essays. There are five major essays, each focusing on a different style of writing. These do require effort; but she is always available to discuss your paper with you and help you find ways to improve. She is very organized and hands out clear plans of the homework assignments for each paper in advance. I loved having her as my teacher and would take her again for every course if I could!!! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:ENG 2301 Brit Lit - Professor Ginger Hanchey is an INCREDIBLE professor! She is one of the most kind and caring, FUN and engaging professors out there! She's so good you should take this class even if you don't need it. She is passionate about her work, includes people well, and is very insightful. She knows what she is talking about, and she loves talking about it! The Brit Lit class consisted of 4 consistent, very manageable tests (14% of grade each), one essay (that was a blast to do--she wants you to enjoy it. Also, 14%), daily grades/short essays/quizzes/participation (10% total), and then the final (20%). The class is organized from old english literature, to middle english, modern english, romantic and victorian, and then modern and beyond. It is simple, and she the readings she chooses are things I would want to read if I had spare time. She wants the class to be enjoyable, and genuinely desires for you to learn, appreciate and succeed in the class! Just take this class, is there really any question to it? :) - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1304 - Love Mrs. Hanchey! She makes English tolerable and fun. She's very understanding and realizes that we're not all English majors, so her grading is very fair. She also realizes the workload can be a bit much when it gets closer to major essays being due, so she gives us a break every once in a while by letting us leave early. I'd definitely take her if I were you!! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1304 - Easily one of the nicest and most personable professors I've had. Mrs. Hanchey is sweet and understanding and is a wonderful teacher. She is very organized and there are 4 units in the semester (Unit I-Summary/Response Essay, Unit II-Rogerian (unbiased) Argument, Unit III-Traditional Argument Essay, and the biggest, Unit IV-Research Paper). At the beginning of the year, she will ask you to do some readings and will usually have a 4-5 question short answer quiz. As long as you explain the best you can, she gives 100s all the time on those. Just be sure you read! When you start writing essays, you don't have quizzes anymore. The essays are usually pretty easy going, she allows peer review in class time, and does a lot of one-on-one talk during class if you need help. The research paper is a 7 week project, but it isn't intimidating because she breaks it down week by week. Super easy going. She is very approachable and you can email her for almost anything! Take her! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1304 - The best English teacher you can take at Baylor. She makes this awful class bearable. She makes you turn in papers in sections, which was annoying at the time, but well worth it in the end. I learned how to procrastinate less because of this class! Do the readings, follow the instructions for the papers, and be prepared and you'll do fine. She's an amazingly sweet and genuine person, but a fair grader. Often, I received higher than what I thought I deserved. I actually looked forward to coming to this class. Highly recommended! - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:1302 - English is the hardest subject for me. She gives quizzes and reading assignments that help your grade. She is a great teacher and makes class time fun. She grades the essays pretty hard though. I never got above a 92 on one, but she is consistent. I averaged a 91.3 an A is an A. take her she is a sweetheart. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1304 - Ginger Hanchey transformed my writing ability. Her teaching style invigorates a potentially tedious course; she injects humor and wit into every class. Her interesting literature selections provoke thought within and without the classroom and ensure enjoyable writing assignments. Professor Hanchey's class enabled my success not only in the English world, but in multiple other classes. I loved her so much, I wish she was my big sister! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1304 - Hands down best teacher I've had at Baylor. She is so sweet, class is actually fun to go to, and she is beautiful so that was another incentive to go to class. She won't just hand over A papers, but you will not regret taking her and if you put in the effort, an A is very possible. Take Hanchey! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:ENG-1304 - Definitely taking her class! You can learn a lot from her. She is willing to help you whenver you want, really good teaching ability. She can make you love writing and she understands her students! If you have any problems of class, just talk with her! Her class and essays are interesting! When I finish the final exam, I don't want to say goodbye to her! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1304 - She is the sweetest teacher I have ever had! I loved her, but don't be fooled.. she won't just hand over an A. And there are quite a few papers. However, she is so helpful, and she even makes the dreaded research paper not so dreadful. And she brought us coffee one day! I would recommend her to anyone!! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:ENG 1304 - TAKE HER! Mrs Hanchey is one of the best professors at Baylor and if you have a chance to take her, you definitely should. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1304 - Mrs. Hanchey is the best teacher I have ever had at Baylor! She is so willing to help and so good at explaining things. The way she breaks down the research paper makes it super easy! I was expecting an A in the class but got a B+. It was a bit disappointing but I would take her over and over again even though I got the B+! TAKE HER! - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:1304 - TAKE HER! she is the nicest professor i have ever had. she really cares about her students and she wants to see them do well. she invested in each of us outside of the class room and was always encouraging and supportive about what was going on in our lives. one day she brought her son to class and he was really cute! the next class she brought candy for us because we were nice to him. and on the last day of class she brought starbucks for us. the class itself could be boring with another professor, but she makes it interesting. i never felt overwhelmed or stressed about it. my only advice is to do the homework readings and work hard on the research paper. TAKE HER! and she looks like a model, sooo beautiful! one of the best professors ive had at baylor! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1304 - If you have a chance to take Mrs. Hanchey doo it!!!! Awesome teacher, always their for you and she understands! - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:1304 - I absolutely loved having her as a teacher. Unlike most of my other professors, she took an interest in each student in the class and made the environment so laidback and comfortable. Whenever we had class discussions over readings, she would make sure to include everyone. No one dominated the conversation and she made sure to call on everyone; if you didn't know answers you could just pass it on to someone else. There was little homework - a few short essays to read occasionally and short quizzes over the essays at the beginning of class. The largest part of the course was the research paper. It could have been awful, but she made writing the paper a breeze. She takes you through every step of the research to make sure you understand what you are supposed to do and is always available for questions - before class, during class, after class, through email, or office hours. Thankfully, she also prevents you from procrastinating on the paper by having you turn in two pages at a time for a month, making it much less stressful. Overall, a wonderful teacher. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1304 - Ms. Hanchey is one of my favorites! She is one of the few professors who DON'T make writing papers a nightmare. She's fair and really really sweet. Take her! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1304 - Best teacher for english hands down. By far my favorite english teacher here at Baylor. Take her!! - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:english - i havent had this class in over a year and i already left her a review, but i miss the class so much that im posting about it again. HANCHEY IS AMAZING if you dont take her class you miss out on being a baylor student. I wish Hanchey taught every class every subject, i would take her for everything. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - If I could take her for the rest of my English classes I would, she is the best teacher ever! Take her. You'll really enjoy her class. The workload is pretty simple. You do the reading and take a 5 question quiz at the beginning of class. It's really easy... if you read. The rest are papers. She really cares about the success of every student, and she is the happiest person ever. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1304 - Very sweet lady. Always willing to help out a student when they needed it. No tests; the papers counted for most of your grade. She gave quizzes every class period, but if you did the reading they weren't hard. Overall, a good class experience. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1304 - Mrs. Hanchey is awesome! She was definately one of my favorite teachers this semester. The class could have been really awful, but she made everything so simple and easy--especially the research project. She made sure that we all stayed on track, and was always available for help. She's very good about including everyone in class discussions. She knows what shes doing, and although some of the technical material on writing we went over was somewhat elementary, I feel like I did learn a lot from this class. Take her for any class you can! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1304 - Mrs. Hanchey is such a delight! She really helped in my transition to Baylor and made 8 am the best part of my day. She is really intelligent, passionate about English and writing, and she tries to include everyone in discussions and to accomodate their style and ideas. Mrs. Hanchey tries very hard to involve herself in every paper and every research topic, providing as much support, brainstorming and personal advice as she can. She definitely works hard to promote the students' success. I look forward to working with her again, if possible, and if I pursue an English-related topic in my Honors Thesis, Mrs. Hanchey is my top choice for advisor. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 and 1304 - I love this teacher and her class. She is awesome in every sense of the word. I got an A on every paper, and i know a lot of others got A's on most of their papers. There are quizes but do the reading and you will know the answer i promise. The reading is only a couple of pages, yet for some reason some people dont read it. Go to class everyday its fun; she tells you what to do in order to get an A, and its not too much. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:English1304 - Very sweet, and she organizes the class fairly well, though at the begining I thought turning in all those papers within two weeks took a bit away from their quality. She's a little hard to get a hold of-I'd email her and hear nothing back until late at night or even the next day, but she's really understanding and helpful if you fall behind. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1304 - She made a potentially horrid class alot of fun. The research paper was a breeze with the way she broke it down. She is very understanding, and wants you to do your best. Deffinately take her! - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1302 - This teacher is by far the best i've had at baylor. I love her class! She made one of the most boring, required courses a fun class. You have to write 5 essays, and she does the grading by percentages. And takes into account how hard that essay is, time of semester, ect in how heavily she weights it. You have a quiz every day at the begining of class but usually the reading assignment is very short somewhere between 2 and 10 pages. All of your quizzes and other little assignements are part of your daily grade which only makes up 10% of your final grade. Each quiz is 4 questions and very very easy. stuff you will definately know the answer to if you even read the assigned pages. She makes good use of class time, is friendly, easy to understand, and goes out of her way to help you. TAKE HER!! - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1304 - I LOVED this professor! She is very enthusiastic about what she does, and is always there to help her students. She even helped me out of her office hours. She is such an amazing professor! I would recommend her to anyone taking this class. She is the best professor I have had. TAKE THIS CLASS :) - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1401 - I loved having this professor! She did a really good job explaing what was expected on each essay and going over the background information we needed to write it. She had some in class quizes over the reading during the first few classes of each session but they weren't hard if you actaully read. She always responded to Email and was good about working with you on everything. I forgot to turn an essay into Turnitin.com once and she let me do it late. She also let me turn in an essay early that was due the day before thanksgiving break. She is such a sweetheart and got to know her students, i would take her if you ever got the chance - Grade In Class:A
