Comments:ACC 5312 - Honestly this class can be a lot of work but is set up in a way that makes you as busy as you want to be. It was fully virtual and you could complete modules up to the grade you want in the class. Obviously it got harder with less instructions the further you got, but Gia was always readily available to help me and lead me to the right answer. Also it's a completion class so as long as your work meets a professional standard you'll finish the module with feedback to improve but without read grades.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:5390 - Dr. Chevis is one of the most helpful and passionate professors I've had at Baylor. She's always available to chat in office hours for as long as you need. Definitely one of the most intelligent professors at Hankamer, and has some really great insights on teaching, research, and advising. I will say she has HIGH expectations of her students, and you will find yourself spending hours upon hours in class preparation and final project work. But if you show work ethic and gain a solid grasp of the material, she grades very fairly and doesn't make them the focus of her classes. Both ethics and accounting pedagogy are very time-intensive classes, but both have strongly developed my writing and communication skills and showcase why Baylor's accounting program is so stellar.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Financial - Gia Chevis is an angel sent from above. She is exactly what you should want in a teacher. She gives a large amount of homework, but theres no busy work at all. It all helps you and actually means something in the very fair grading system. She is also very good at communicating with students. She actually met with me and a friend at Common Grounds to talk about accounting. She is a very cool lady that loves her subject. I absolutely hate accounting. I cannot imagine anything worse than being an accountant, however, she makes you WANT to love accounting, even though the subject sucks. Overall, take her, love her, enjoy her presence.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:Managerial - Excellent professor. She makes good use of class time. The majority of class time is spent working practice problems alone and in groups. She understands that testing is an effective way to encourage learning, so expect lots of practice tests and quizzes. Workload is very manageable. You can easily get a high homework great even after forgetting a few assignments. Chevis is very available and willing to help. She skyped someone in my class that had a homework problem late at night. Tests were challenging but predictable. Most students seemed to make As and Bs on tests. Look over your book and do the homework and you should be fine.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2303 - Dr. Chevis is an excellent professor. She really cares about her students and is willing to help in any way she can. Class was moderately challenging but she teaches in a way that most can comprehend if you put in your share of effort. Lots of homework but it is very helpful and is worth doing. Tests were multiple choice & short answer & a problem or two usually. She really is a good teacher and I would recommend her.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:Acc 2304 - This class was a little rough...I breezed through Financial with a high A, but struggled in Dr. Chevis's class. I think this is mostly because she teaches concepts in a very broad way--not a lot of structure, doesn't teach formulas, etc. This was hard for me to learn and I had to teach myself a lot. But Dr. Chevis is very available and will give you any and all resources you need to do well in the class- you just have to take the initiative to use them. I really appreciated her almost constant communication with the class and her willingness to work with us. Do the daily homework and always do the prep work for class, use the textbook or you will be lost.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:ACC 2304 - She isn't very good at teaching this entry level class. The lesson is not structured at all and it's very difficult to follow her some days. She is very nice and helpful when asked for clarification, but I feel like this intro class should be more structured. She just talks and does examples and doesn't really explain the basics or the big picture idea of what you're doing until the day before the exam. I'd try to find another professor if you could, but if you have her it won't be bad.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:2304 - Even with a C in her class I would take Dr. Chevis again! She is an amazing teacher and is actually interested in helping students learn. Her class is actually really interesting. You have homework due in every class but its only 5% of your grade, so if you dont do it its not the end of the world. I took financial accounting at MCC so I probably wasn't as prepared as I should have been for her class, otherwise I would have gotten a better grade. The tests aren't that hard. If you can, go through the practice problems she gives you and you will be golden! She is very communicative which is so nice. Always sending emails clarifying questions etc. I loved that. Your final grade replaces your lowest taste grade which SAVED me. I got a 70 on the final. Don't be to freaked out for the departmental. Its confusing but not undoable. Just study all those problems over again and look over some old tests. The reason I got a 70 was because I didn't study the time value of money enough and that was a huge section on the test. I was feeling really sick over finals and she let me take it a few hours early in a private room. Its small things like that that make her such a great teacher. I think if you take anyone else you are making a mistake. Most of you can make at least a B in this class! I hated financial and loved managerial!  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:2304 - As a person, she is very nice, but as a teacher, at least for this entry level accounting course, I felt like she was not really teaching on our level. She kind of taught like we already had a managerial class. She taught with concepts rather than structure and formulas, which when first learning something like this class, at least for me, I need to know how to do it first before I know the concepts behind it. I would not take her for 2304 but I don't know how she is with her upper level courses.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:Cases - As long as you understand that she hates US GAAP before you start the class, then you won't be disappointed. She knows alot about acounting, but she is probably one of the most arrogant professors that I have ever had. She has never worked in public practice, and she isn't even a CPA so she lacks credibility as a professor of something that she has never even done.   - Grade In Class:A

Comments:ACC 4308 - Dr. Chevis is an amazing professor. She is very fun and interesting, but you will learn a lot. She makes the class more than just numbers by asking a lot of questions about qualitative issues. Made above 96 on all but one test. Great class.  - Grade In Class:A
