*A 5 star workload is an easy workload; a 3 star is average; whereas a 1 star workload is extremely hard.
Comments:Many - I have taken multiple of Dr. B's classes starting with intro classes to 4000 levels, and I have gotten A's in all of them. I would recommend her to every incoming student who has the ability to get into her classes. She may come off a bit intimidating at first, but she quickly shows you that she cares about you and that you truly understand the material. I never had real "homework" in any of her classes outside of seminar-based lectures (You had to do readings before class that as a group you would talk about). Your true homework is to study the information she gives you. And as long as you do that, you will excel. Her exams are pretty straightforward as long as you keep up with her lectures. She is one of my favorite professors! In Dr. B we trust. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:ANT 3331 - Osteo is a VERY hard class and definitely requires lots of practice. I, personally, went to open lab hours basically every day because it's the only way I could keep up the material. Dr. Binetti definitely can be nice and overall, her mood is unpredictable at times. I recommend trying to focus on memorizing everything, which seems like a lot but you can be tested on the finest of details. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:4335 - Binetti is such an awesome professor! This class was super interesting, and I learned a lot! There are lots of readings, but I was never bored with the readings, so it made it fun! No exams, just two papers, and summaries and responses every week regarding the readings. Overall, an awesome class, and she is amazing. PS: the negative reviews were made by people who don't try, so if you do try, you will do great! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:3331 - Dr. Binetti is not as bad as people are saying. Yes, you have to work hard. Its an upper-level class that is difficult. If you try, she will like you. She is harsh but most professors are that way. She is actually a lot of fun to get to know. If you apply yourself, she will see that. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:3331 - Easily one of the worst professors at Baylor. Aside from her poor teaching, she’s extremely unprofessional. She learned the names of 3 or 4 of her favorite students at the beginning of the class then made no effort to learn anyone else’s name. She once said “if you don’t get an A in my class, you won’t get into any anthropology program.” She’s incredibly full of herself. She spoke very poorly of another professor in the department, saying that “he’s not a real professor; he’s just a cop, he doesn’t know what he’s talking about.” She said this in response to many students wanting to take this professors class, like she was jealous that students were foregoing her classes for his. She constantly gossiped and made unprofessional comments about her husband and school age son. One day a girl was crying in class and Dr. Binetti called her out and continued asking her why she was crying when she was clearly uncomfortable, it got to the point where the girl left the room mid-class in tears. In terms of teaching ability, dr Binetti was practically useless. She quickly clicked through a PowerPoint of blurry pictures that she’s been using for years, then expected us to be able to pick up a random bone and identity it. Please don’t waste your tuition money feeding into this women’s ego, it seems unlikely that Baylor will keep such an educator employed for much longer. Disregard the few positive reviews she has, they’re likely from one of the handful of her favorite students that she seemingly picks at random the first day. - Grade In Class:C+
Comments:3331 - I LOVE Dr. Binetti! she is so passionate about what she teaches, and she is very smart. it upsets me that people say shes mean/rude, because she is not at all. she is very stern(in a good way), hard working, and wants you to succeed. for human osteology, you have 'quizzes' (exams) on every topic every few weeks or so then the final is the super quiz, and the quizzes very much prepared me for the final. go. to. the. open. lab. Binetti is great, and she wants to help. would recommend! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:ANT 3331 - Human osteology was a big challenge but Dr. Binetti was so helpful. She is easily one of the best professors at Baylor. You learn about every single bone in the human body and all the features of each bone. There are weekly quizzes based on what part of the skeleton you studied that week and a "super" quiz for your final. Open lab hours are your best friend. You have to be very dedicated to wanting to take this class or else it will be a struggle. Dr. Binetti is a wonderful lady and I have never had a professor teach me as much as she did. Would highly recommend taking her if you have the chance. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:4369 - Actually the rudest professor in the Anthropology department. Read the other reviews and heed their warnings. The class is easy, but she's a nightmare. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:ANT - honestly thought she was a super intelligent professor. Did't have much conversation with her, but I thought she was pretty nice too UNTIL I asked her a question during the quiz. Won't specify what she said but I was very offended. Did't think much at the time, but then another student asked her the exact same question (i assume one of her fav students). She answered in a COMPLETELY different attitude. yes I heard and I saw. Other than this her class is well. - Grade In Class:C
Comments:ANT 1404 - At first she was very stoic and impersonal, but as the semester progressed she started to warm up and shared some of her experiences in Kenyan field school. She is knowledgeable and knows the material well, but almost to the point where she forgets we are unfamiliar with it. I would recommend to pay attention to what she says and not solely rely on the slides. One thing to know before taking a class with her - she does NOT post study guides. However, she does tell you what to expect on the exam and gives you what you need to succeed. She encourages questions, she sometimes may come off as a bit patronizing, but will answer and has good intentions. She generally seems nice and seems to have a genuine care for her students underneath her hard exterior. (ALSO ignore the grade bc its not final) - Grade In Class:A
Comments:ANT/FORS 3331 - (unsure of grade at this point!) Dr. Binetti probably singlehandedly convinced me to stay at Baylor. I was considering transferring, and took Osteology because forensics interested me. Though the class is challenging on new levels, Dr. Binetti is personable. She gets to know her students and feeds off of their questions and passions. She has an awesome sense of humor. I have trouble focusing in other lectures but I am always drawn in by her lectures. She gives you simple powerpoints with visuals to learn parts of different bones. PLEASE utilize lab hours to study bones or work on the final project. As long as you are willing to put in the work, this class will prove very beneficial. Take time to get to know professors before judging. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:3331 - She is incredibly intelligent in her field and the workload isn't bad but the way she talks to students can come off as rude or as if she is talking down to you; so much so that she makes me feel like I shouldn't ask questions in her class. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:3331 - This class is a lot of work, but Dr. Binetti is an amazing teacher. She is very intelligent and is extremely knowledgeable in the material. If you study and work hard you will be fine. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1404 - Dr. Binetti is a great teacher. Would highly recommend her for Intro to Human Evolution. She always is available for help and responds to my concerns quickly. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1404 - I’m not going to lie this class was harder than expected. I took this class because I needed a lab credit and thought it would be pretty easy. This was definitely a class in which I had to fight for my grade (an A is a 94). First, this class is a mix of anthropology majors and people who just need a lab credit, so some people really know their stuff. Your grade is made up of three tests and your lab, each worth 25%. There are four tests and she drops your lowest test grade which is nice. Since these are your only grades, the class is very self-paced and it is easy to fall behind. The lab this semester wasn’t taught by Binetti but is worth a big chunk of your grade so don’t skip it (attendance is part of the lab grade). Binetti was pretty laid back and talked about her kid a bunch but pay attention to what she says because it will be on the test. The tests are very broad and make you put things together so keep that in mind while studying. Overall, not bad for a lab class but be careful. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:4358 - Dr. Binetti is a good professor and super smart. You really need to go up to her and talk with her because she does care for her students. In this class, she changed it up where the entire semester you are working on a research (graduate-like) project. If you like to work independently, this class is for you. She splits you up into groups to work on a project. Other than that, there are no exams, no lectures, and not really homework. She has a few deadlines for you to have things done, which could help you organize the group duties. This is a very independent class and you have to actually be interested in your project, so tell her if you aren't. The toughest part, for me, was writing the paper at the end. Depending on what your research is in, will depend on how you write the paper. She also encourages using past research or cited work, which was more difficult in certain groups. Overall, I suggest taking this class because you can get real world research experience while also having a professor guide and check your work. I learned a lot and will definitely use the skills I have attained in my future endeavors. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Human Osteology - Dr. Binetti is a very personable and fun teacher, often trying to relate to the students and make class interesting. The Osteology class lectures were mainly just going over the vocabulary, of which there is a lot. Dr. Binetti likes to have little associations to make the terms easier to remember which can make class fun. She is almost always late to class and it is very common for her to end the class early. There are six "quizzes" (which are pretty much the tests, all set up like lab practicals) , a midterm written paper over the biology of bones, and a presentation that you do during finals. It is very important that you go into lab hours before the quizzes to see the bones in person. The class is all memorization and since the quizzes all deal with the physical bone set up in front of you, it helps to practice it that way. Overall, Dr. Binetti is a good teacher and is really nice/fun to be around and talk to. The class is hard but if you study enough it isn't anywhere close to impossible. I recommend for pre-med students who want to get an amazing understanding on osteology. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:4365 - Primate Behavior - This was a really interesting class! I'm NOT an anthropology major and have never taken an anthropology course before, but I was able to keep up fine with the class. Dr. Binetti assigns a LOT of reading, and you must write fairly detailed summaries/outlines to prove that you've done the reading. Usually there are 3-4 articles to read each week, each from around 10-50 pages (typically one or two shorter readings and one or two long ones). This was a HUGE time suck, but the discussions over them were interesting. We watched several movies/TV shows that were very interesting, and the final project (done at the zoo) is really fun. For the midterm - write about 1/2-1 full page for each question, and you should get an A. It took her about a month or so to grade our midterms, and we NEVER got our grades back for our reading summaries or zoo project - we just got the final letter grade on Bearweb. So, write a good amount and follow directions and you should get an A. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1404 - Looking for a fairly easy lab science? Take 1404 with Dr. Binetti. She is a great professor (probably my favorite prof I had this semester) and somehow made class enjoyable and engaging despite it being a subject I had 0 interest in. She's a great lecturer and a fair grader. Her tests aren't that hard, and you get a dropped test. Note that lab attendance is 40% of your grade -- missing just one lab will drop your overall grade about 3 points, so be sure to never miss. This isn't a blow off class -- you will need to study pretty hard for each test, but it's much easier than a lot of other lab sciences and Dr. Binetti makes it fun. You get to go to Cameron Park Zoo for a project, too! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:4404 - I absolutely love Dr. Binetti. Intro to human evolution is an amazing class for anyone who is not a fan of lab sciences. All the negative reviews on here say that she is condescending or rude, but honestly it's just because she's so intelligent! Don't interrupt or raise your hand in class unless you have something really amazing to contribute (people in my class would often interrupt to say really pointless, unnecessary things). This class has 4 tests and a lab (worth 40 percent of your grade) and she drops the lowest test grade. If you are on the fence about taking this class, TAKE IT, the workload is so manageable and she is so interesting. She's also really funny and provides really cool examples of her field work! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Oseto - I'm not big on reviewing teachers, but this lady is by far one of my favorite teachers. I happened to stumble into her osteo lab as a bio student who literally hated waking up for class everyday. After that day I became an anthro major and had the opportunity to take the same class I stumbled into. If you want a class that's an easy A, this class isn't for you. But if you put in the work, you'll get your grade. If you want to be taught by someone who'll make you smile on your worst day, who could teach without looking at a book, who offers a fun John Doe project, who isn't afraid to tell you when you're wrong...but will teach you instead of belittling you--take her. Her only downside is she won't entertain your crybaby sessions, and lord knows I have a set of gorgeous crocodile sized tears in my "please bump up my grade" aresenal that I never got to use :(! - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1404 - Dr. Binetti knows exactly what is talking about and can answer any question a student asks very well. Sometimes she can come off as condescending because she’s so intelligent, but it’s completely unintentional and it’s nothing to take personally. She is incredibly passionate about the subject and that made me feel excited about it too, even though the subject of anthropology itself is not my favorite at all. I felt as if she was approachable once I learned what her personality was like and she genuinely cares about helping students succeed. The material in her lectures wasn't always the easiest to understand because it wasn't always organized very well. However, she does post her lectures online, which is super helpful, but make sure you come to class and take some notes, or else you won’t really understand them. I never exactly knew how to study for her tests, but I did my best to look over my notes before the tests and made all B’s and C’s on them. Since lab is 40% of your grade that helped bump my grade up to an A, so don’t skip lab! There's 3 exams and a non-cumulative final and she drops your lowest non-final grade. The two exam grades she keeps and the final are all worth 20% of your grade each. I’d recommend this class if you need to take it for a lab science! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1404 - This class was an easy A for me, but that\'s not saying that she isn\'t one of the BEST professors I\'ve ever had. She knows what she\'s talking about, and I mean she REALLY knows. People could ask her the most random questions that they had, and she knew the response. She made me actually care about Anthropology, and lab with her was very fun and easy. Her power points are very useful and I recommend taking notes even though it may not seem like you need them since she puts the power points online. She is awesome and very passionate about what she does. Please take her because you will love her class!! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1404 - I liked Dr. Binetti. She was smart, and passionate about her subject. She also didn't try to make a class intended as an alternative lab for non-majors super difficult and impressive. She's straightforward, and expects that in return. She's not going hold your hand, but she isn't going to refuse to help you either. You do, however, have to fit yourself into HER schedule, which is fine and completely understandable considering she's got a two year old. The class was easy, and she tested entirely on the lecture material. I liked her, and would take her again. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Primates 😍 & intro bio - I think she gets a bad Rep Because people don't take the time to talk to her. It might seem intimidating, but it is really not. She's not your mom, point blank period. She doesn't baby you, but she will explain her methods, grading, assignments if you simply ask. Don't interrupt class (she notices everything), questions are welcomed, reading isn't desired but not bad. It's actually interesting. RCR: Respect, communicate, read! - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:PB - She's not the type of teacher that cracks a ton of jokes, aims to make you laugh, nor jokes around with you. As other infer, she may seem mean, but she's aimply straightforward. If you need help? Ask. If you have a problem? ask. If you feel like a grade, essay, comment was unfair? Ask. She isn't mean, she is different. That doesn't mean she can't teach, that she is unreasonable, or she is cruel. Her personality is just not bubbly. You will learn, you will struggle, you will succeed. An A is very doable. Come to class, participate, engage the material, be respectful, try = you'll do fine - Grade In Class:B
Comments:ANT 1404 - Dr. Binetti is pretty cool. She works in Kenya to discover human remains. Her class was a little boring because everything was on a powerpoint, but I can't complain because it was an easy class. The lab that goes with this class is probably the easiest lab you could take. All you have to do is show up once a week, she tells you what you're doing in the lab, you answer questions in your lab books that she doesn't even check, then you leave. You basically get an A for showing up which is extremely easy. She's a chill prof and wants you to succeed. She's willing to answer any questions about the material, and even about her work in Kenya, or just random stuff. She had little kids so if she ever had to stay home with one who's sick or something we get to watch a movie in class which can be pretty interesting. The zoo project at the end of the semester was easy too. You just have to go watch monkeys or gorillas for an hour and write down what they do. If you need a credit for a lecture/lab take this course. Easy A. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1404 - Dr Binetti is my new most fav prof. The class itself was starightforward and interesting. Exams followed the lectures. The lab was a breeze. Not too much reading. I got an A. She has terrific stories of her African adventures. I'f highly recommend this for your lab class credits. I found this WAY easier than bio or chem. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1404 - I could not wait to get out of this course and away from this "teacher". She is awful. Take anything by Dr. Cook or Baker before her. She is AWFUL! - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1404 - I don't understand why Katie has such a low rating on here as she is my favorite Anthropology prof. She's a smart woman who is happy to answer any and all lab questions. Tests were moderately difficult with multiple choice, true/false, and two short answers, but if you study your notes, you will do well. If you can handle and appreciate sarcasm, then you can handle Katie! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1404 - Took this as a lab science. Binetti is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about human evolution BUT her lectures are hard to follow mainly because of the order in which she presents information; doesn't appear to be very chronological. So, it's a little tricky preparing for exams. Speaking of which, there are three exams plus a final. The lowest non-final exam grade is dropped, which is cool. In regards to preparing for tests, she gives too MUCH information to study, and interestingly only about 1/5 appears on the exams. Annoying! I appreciate that she teaches her lab sections, but I think she places to much emphasis on the labs...after all, most of us are non-anthropology majors/minors. Overall it was an interesting class and I learned a lot, but I wouldn't recommend it for someone wanting to take an easy lab science. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:Human Evo - She's is ridiculously intelligent/knowledgable about her subject. That being said, I think it's difficult for her to relate to her students sometimes. Occasionally could come off a little condescending. There are ALOT of fossils to learn & I stumbled my way through lab every week. Tests are fairly difficult, multiple choice with 2 short answer questions. Decent class, but don't know that I'd take it again if I had to choose. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:1404 - All these ratings are a little misleading. I enjoyed the class and I know that most others who were in my class did too. Don't be mislead by these ratings! Katie is an awesome prof. she's extremely knowledgeable and very willing to pass that on. The lab is easily the most interesting one I have had at Baylor. Workload is very manageable just some reading from the book, and a couple of pages from the lab manual. Tests are based mostly on her lecture though so don't worry about scrutinizing for every detail in the readings. She makes the course material easy to grasp in lecture and lab so tests should not be a problem. This class won't add any stress to your schedule so I highly recommend it plus Katie is awesome, and definitely the best prof. I have had here. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Evolution - Katie is an awesome prof. The material is interesting and the tests are fairly easy. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:Human Evolution - Professor Benetti's Human Evolution class was a wonderful choice. She is very knowledgeable and always willing to work with you if you need it. It is a pretty standard lower-level course, but it is exponentially more fascinating than something like chemistry in society. I HIGHLY recommend her class as a science and lab credit. It is well worth it. The workload is ideal and very little needs to be done outside of the class if you pay attention and get your work done IN LAB. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Evolution - Ms. Binetti is rude to students and made me feel like I should never ask questions. She is not helpful and this class does not seem to be her favorite. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1404 - I really do not understand Katie's low rating. I took her Intro to Human Evolution class last semester and found it to be fairly easy and very interesting. I found it interesting enough to change my major to Anthropology. Her teaching style is about the same as most introductory classes would go, using powerpoints and lectures. She seemed really knowledgeable and was always available in her office for extra help. The lab portion was ridiculously easy compared to other BA science classes. All in all, I found Human Ev. interesting and the Prof. Binetti is worth taking. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:ANT 3331 - I really, really enjoyed this class. I loved learning about the skeleton and all the features. Katie is a really good teacher. Of course, she sometimes went a little too fast, but I was able to keep up and understand. Now, this course is not a super easy course. You are going to have to study a lot and often. There are quizzes about every two weeks over the bones you have covered. They generally reflect the most recent features you have learned, but they also contain some review. Especially the ones that were most missed on the previous quiz. She does drop the lowest quiz grade, excluding what she likes to call the Super Quiz which is at the end of the semester and covers the entire skeleton. There is a midterm and final that cover the only information that you really have to memorize besides the features of the bones. They are essay exams, but only like a paragraph or two not full length essays. Also at the end of the semester you have to write a 5-7 page research paper and do a John Doe project, which is fun. You pair up and get a box of bones that you have to determine what happened, age, gender, etc. I would really recommend taking this class to anyone who is an anthropology major or pre-med or even pre-dent majors. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Human Ev - The class is ok but Ms. Binetti is never available and acts put out when you ask her a question. Take a different science if you can. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1404 - Ms. Binetti was generally boring but the course material was interesting so that helped. She needs to concentrate on us and not whatever else she is obviously thinking about. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1404 - Awseome prof! Dr. Binetti is soooo cool. Cool topic; easy class. Exams are multiple choice and if you do the readings are a snap. Trust me - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1404-01 - Great Teacher! Knows what she is talking about and is very helpful. She will answer any question no matter how weird or random. The class is very interesting even if you only sorta like Anthro. Take her if you get the chance!!! - Grade In Class:A
