Comments:CLA 4300 - Ancient Medicine class was not great. He spoke pretty monotone which normally doesn't deter me but the resources were not helpful at all. The power points didn't include any main points and would just be blocks of quotes of text that we didn't read or just very specific sections of the 50 pages+ of reading. I was so excited to learn ancient medicine but it was just so boring I could not. We didn't have any grades in the book until our midterm in March so we didn't even have that much time to decide to drop until it was too late. There were no deadlines placed in our syllabus and I still don't know when our essay which is supposed to be 15 pages is due even though I have gone to every single class. Overall just hard to focus class. The readings were also very long. The midterm was a bluebook that was ID questions and an essay and he said we only needed to write 3 sentences but expected really specific things when he said it didn't need to be that crazy.  - Grade In Class:DROP

Comments:GRK 1301 - I cannot say enough good things about this legend, take him if you are taking any classic language, he is so chill, funny, helpful, and great at teaching.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:LAT 1301/1302 HNR - Dr. Hunt is, by all accounts, a generous professor and an easy lecturer. He is a good teacher and will tell you what you need for his relatively short exams. The end of the year, concept-wise, got pretty difficult but he graded generously in my opinion. you may find that he goes on tangents during lecture, but nothing that detracts from the information needed for tests. Overall, a great professor if you need to fulfill a language credit.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Latin 2 - The homework and the exams are similar to other intro Latin courses-- sentences from Wheelock and then basic grammar ideas. Dr. Hunt is a generous grader and kind in class. I loved learning from him-- and I'd add that he's very easy to work with. If you need a test moved, a deadline pushed back-- he won't budge on the work you need to do, but will work with you. Great professor!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1302 Latin 2 - Dr. Hunt is a well rounded professor. He does a great job of being consistent with what material will be covered in class each day. His tests are a accurate representation of how hard you are trying in the class. Dr. Hunt is laid back and personal as well; the beginning of class usually consists of funny stories and/or a dad joke. As long as you are good at being consistent in doing your homework, the quizzes and tests will not hit you like a train.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:LAT 1301 - I have no idea why this man doesn't have the best rating. I would take this over Spanish for a foreign language requirement ANY DAY. No interview type exams where you are expected to speak the language and exams are simple. Just keep up with the vocab, do the homework (which isn't even for a grade just for practice but do it), and study the forms before each exam. Exams include different forms and conjugations which come straight from the charts in the books, parsing, syntax, and sentences to translate. Plus an extra credit sentence which is the only time you'll have English to Latin on an exam. The exams are literallly one page, front and back. Quizzes are once a week and again straight from the charts in the book. He even tells you what exactly it'll be over so just mesmerize the chart and you'll finish the quiz in less than a minute. Just make sure to keep up with vocab and forms and there is no reason not to make an A in the course. It can sneak up on you though towards the end of the semester when you get busy and stop working on vocab. There is also a departmental exam that's a portion of the final which sounds super intimidating but it's seriously not. It's easy. Take Hunt.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:LAT 2320 - Dr. Hunt is an incredible teacher- one of the best here at Baylor! His class isn't too difficult, and when students struggle with the material (Virgil's Aeneid) he never makes you feel embarrassed. He gives tips to students who need to be walked through the translation, and is excellent at explaining the syntax of strange verbs/nouns/etc. and analyzing the text in a literature tense. He cares very much about his students, and is willing to meet and work with them outside of class as well.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Lat and Gkc - Dr Hunt is one of the best professors in the Classics department. He is incredibly helpful and understanding when it comes to the work most students, classics or otherwise, have every day. His door is always open whenever I want to talk to him and he is always willing to give advice when asked. Baylor is very lucky to have a professor like Dr. Hunt. He is very witty which he uses very well to make his classes interesting and fun. I hope I will get to take another class with him before I graduate.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:BIC 1301 - I am convinced Dr. Hunt is one of the best teachers here at Baylor. The previous reviews which say that Dr. Hunt assigns less work then other professors is intriguing to me, since he has challenged me from day one of the class, with journal entries, essays, and in class discussion topics. Dr. Hunt's class prepared me for the rest of college, by teaching me the necessities of a proper college essay as well as the intangibles that only a great professor like Dr. Hunt could teach. I would recommend taking as many of his classes as possible, because he will make you a more complete student and person, and if you are willing to put in the work and effort there is no telling the plethora of knowledge Dr. Hunt you could attain from taking a single class.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:Uschol Great Texts - Dr. Hunt has a notably lighter workload than Weaver or Murray did, and he seemed to be a more generous grader (though still fair - don't start your essay the night before). I didn't really enjoy his class because it was so discussion-based and the few people who talked rarely said anything different or especially insightful. Dr. Hunt was knowledgeable when you got him talking. I think my distaste for this class had more to do with the people in it than his teaching style, but no matter the cause I still don't feel I learned much. My favorite part about this class was that he let you pick your essay topic each time with very few limitations. This was detrimental to a few of us as I understand it, but I found it to make the essays much more enjoyable, not to mention personally impactful, and ultimately they were better works than I would have ever come up with had I been given a formal prompt. When it comes to the final: study groups are a lifesaver.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Great Texts 2302 - USchol - All University Scholars have to take a USchol section of Great Texts, and there's no getting around the difficulty--all the tests and reading assignments are the same in each USchol section. However, Dr. Hunt required fewer reflection papers from his small group (only two) and graded much more generally (usually in a favorable direction) than his pick-you-apart peers. That being said, he's a bit TOO easy; I din't feel fully prepared for the Uschol exam. On the other hand, he was the one grading our exams, so I ended up with an A in the class anyway. I wish I had learned more from the discussions--he had a set number of big topics he "needed to cover" and sort of watched us about them, but I felt like that list was limited and most of my classmates' comments weren't particularly enlightening. (As in, they were so dumb and vague they betrayed that the person hadn't read.) Dr. Hunt then would ramble to try to make their point sound better. I wish he had asked more specific, poignant questions, to (1) put non-readers in the "hot seat" and force us to read, or (2) provoke more deep responses from the readers. He's a great guy though; down-to-earth, unpretentious; and I appreciated how he was able to encourage us, to give us the confidence that we CAN converse intelligently about these books and their ideas, even as he challenged us to think MORE intelligently, to look beyond first impressions to find meaningful, defensible claims.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1302 - Don't take him. He is just unbelievably lazy and disorganized. He misgraded two of my major test each for over 8 points. (And he resisted correcting my grade for a really long time.) Do not take him. His tests are hard, but he doesn't teach, so you can't learn anything from him. There are so many great classics teachers like Dr. Smith. Take them instead.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:Latin 3 - Dr. Hunt is great! I am a 5th year senior and he has really worked with me so I can graduate on time. Definitely recommend him!  - Grade In Class:D

Comments:latin 1 - I am a B student and I hated Dr. Hunt. I am pretty chill but he is just so freaking lazy and disorganized. He doesn’t give any handouts or post anything on blackboard. I ended up being a Latin major, but I almost dropped the entire language because of Hunt. Do not take him. His tests are hard yet he gives you no way to study. Unless you love Latin like I did, you will have a tough time passing his class.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:GTX Anc, Med - Absolutely incredible professor. He's a big help on texts even outside of the Classics department, like the Medieval syllabus. He has long office hours (though you have to knock; he always keeps his door closed) and good advice. Also, he's willing to share a good story, especially at Dr. Smith's office hours for Latin students. He facilitates discussion very well, without dominating or abandoning the class.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:latin 2 - Hunt is ok; not bad but not great. He is disorganized and kind've lazy; students have to take the lead on everything. That being said, I have had worse teachers. At least Hunt takes time to answer questions and answer email.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2013-02-24

Comments:GTX-2301 - This class will definitely stretch you, but Dr. Hunt makes it very doable. I would recommend him for his helpfulness, and clarity. Overall, a great class, and a great professor. I personally went to him for writing advice several times, and he was overwhelmingly gracious and his advice and instruction were fantastic.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2013-01-09

Comments:GTX 2301 - I love Dr. Hunt. That being said, I took the USchol section so Dr. Hunt didn't have control of reading assignments, quizzes, tests, etc. There's really too much reading to really enjoy the class and because of the quizzes you spend your time cramming information for the quiz, which is not their objective. The quizzes are random, but usually most small group days would have them. They're difficult, but they drop 2 and they don't count for a lot of your grade. There are 2 papers that are time consuming and annoying, but Dr. Hunt graded mine very well. I spent lots of time studying for the class. However, Dr. Hunt is the best USchol GTX professor and I would definitely recommend him. Do the reading, go to class, have several study sessions with your small group before the tests, and you'll be fine.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1302 - I took Hunt after hating my first Latin professor in 1301 & I'm so glad I did. He seems very soft-spoken at first, but he has a dry, dorky sense of humor that I really appreciated. My only complaint in this class is that he sometimes just skims the surface on the lectures & expects you to read them and understand what's going on. However, he's always willing to slow down and repeat anything that you're not understanding. Quizzes are super easy & usually just over vocab or parsing new irregular verbs. Tests are straight-forward: noun/verb parsing & translating 3 or 4 sentences (these are NOT taken from the homework like some other Latin classes, which I actually like because it made me learn the vocab and syntax rules). Taking him again for Greek & highly recommend.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1302 - Dr Hunt is a good Latin professor and enjoys teaching. He loves to talk about Roman history which makes the class more interesting. There is homework assigned for every class which is to parse usually around ten sentences from the book. His tests are not super difficult, but can be challenging. I had Dr. Hunt for both semesters of Latin and can say that if you have to take Latin, he is the way to go.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2012-05-10

Comments:1301 - Dr. Hunt is a pretty cool guy. He was very intimidating the first month of class with his sarcastic comments but he is actually a nice guy. He is very, very knowledgable about all aspects of Latin including Roman history. He even pointed out mistakes in the text book! You will spend most of class reading sentences from homework and parsing them. It can be pretty difficult at times and he encourages those who need extra help to talk with him frequently and even, if necessary, get a tutor. His tests are pretty straight forward with a noun/adjective section, verb section, and a sentence section. The first test is super easy but after that the amount of information covered on the last two tests is quite substantial. The final is also really easy. You get online worksheets which have word for word what is on the final. If you have to take a language and do not want to take it 5 days a week I would definitely take Dr. Hunt!  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:BIC 1314 - Dr. Hunt is great! I had a lot of trouble in the beginning because I didn't understand what kind of writing he expected from me. However, he was extremely helpful and supportive in his office hours. He's quiet, but witty things always seem to slip out of his mouth. I recommend!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:GRK 1301 - Coming from a non-classic major perspective, I would say that Dr. Hunt is the way to go to take Greek. Although at the beginning of the year, his voice was soft and you had to sit at the very front of the class to hear him, he was very funny with this little, sarcastic remarks. The homework is out of the textbook every night, translating sentences. There was a quiz every week and he would tell you what's on it [they were super easy]. The tests consisted of vocabulary charts, parsing, and sentences straight out of the textbook. As long as you studied a couple hours for the test, you should do fine. I would love to take him again for 1302. I hear, however, that he might not be teaching Greek anymore.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:GRK 1301 - For the duration of a Greek 1301 class, I enjoyed the learning of an ancient language through careful and skilled guidance. Jeff Hunt is a good professor, although he speaks quietly (so make sure you sit near the front) with scattered sarcastic jokes. His quizzes are a cinch as well as his tests...but that is speaking from a Greek point of view. Greek is a difficult entity unto itself. There is PLENTY of memorizing if you wish to achieve greatness along with Socrates and Plato. Jeff was great!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2010-01-22

Comments:Lat 1302 - Easy class. His test consists of three sections. Section 1: Direct vocabulary (easy) Section 2: Parsing (just giving forms etc) Section 3: Translation (straight from the homework. Word for word) so if you did the homework you can at least make a guess. And did I mention that the vocab, parsing and sentences are only the ones from that exam- meaning that if the test is over Ch. 24-28 then there is no other vocab or parsing or homework sentences from anywhere else  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1301 - Professor Hunt is really great. He is a great professor but this class is really hard. There is a great deal of memorization and there are quizzes or tests every week. Study and keep up and you'll do good. Just make sure you have a couple of hours every day to devote to this class. If you are having trouble, go see him, he will help you and give you extra help.  - Grade In Class:F

Comments:1301 - HILARIOUS! During his lectures he talks almost in monotone so that can get kind of annoying but he adds in these witty comments every now and then that are so funny. He loves interacting with his students during class and can be side tracked. His tests are pretty fair if you pay attention in class and go over your notes. There are translations due daily but they really help you learn the material. I am taking him again next semester and am definately looking forward to it.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1305 - jeff hunt is a great guy. Starting off, I was terrible at latin, but I never felt chastised when I was wrong as he was always patient. The classes consist of going over homework, with a simple memorization quiz every Friday. Although he doesnt really teach much in his classes, hes extremely helpful if you come visit him. (I think he gets bored during office hours). He's got great jokes, and is a very interesting guy. the tests were difficult, but If you study everynight (seriously) then youll be fine. flash cards are good too. there's homework every night, which is a pain, but whatever you do, DO NOT google the answers! that was the downfall of my grade, but basically, if you really try, then he won't let you fail. I would suggest him to anyone taking Latin.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2009-01-10

Comments:1301 - For those who have never taken latin before Prof. Hunt is a great choice of teacher. There is homework every night, but it is easy. There is a quiz every friday that is strictly memorization. The tests are kind of hard, but not too bad. Definitely talk to him if you are having trouble in the class.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2009-01-06

Comments:latin - For first semester latin, Prof Hunt is a very good choice. I had never taken latin before and was extremely successful in this class. That being said, I did every hw assignment and studied extremely thoroughly for this course. The hw is time consuming if done correctly but it will help prepare for tests and quizes. Prof hunt is extremely nice and funny and will even bring snacks on review nights before exams.   - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2008-12-25

Comments:Latin 1301 - Professor Hunt is a really cool guy. At first glance, he seems like a video game nerd, but he's got some really funny jokes up his sleeves. The class does require a lot of memorization, but with a little studying each night, the class isn't that difficult. There are quizzes every friday with three tests and a final. I'd recommend the class to others.  - Grade In Class:B+
