Comments:1305 - Please do not take Hendon! One of the worst teachers i've ever had. Treats students like they are in middle school and will almost laugh at you if you do not know the answer when he calls on you in class. He screams during class and plays inappropriate videos. His lectures are not important for the tests, but you have to pay attention in case he calls on you and there is a participation grade that is 10% of your grade. Shouldn't be a teacher anymore but he is like 75 and has been here to long to be fired.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1305 - Professor Hendon is the most boring man ever. He just reads off of the powerpoint and you never know whats important to write down. The tests are 40% multiple choice based on a list of terms given as a study guide and 60% essay and the possible essay prompts are all given to beforehand, so if you take the time to prepare at least a rough draft for all of them, you should do well. He goes over the prompts and terms the class before the test if you have questions. There is also a major research paper assigned that includes a presentation worth a large amount of your grade. Overall, he grades easily and is hard to stay awake and listen to. I think he knows this because he will randomly yell words in the middle of teaching. The most bizarre and scariest thing at 8 am in the morning.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:4336 - I took him for Europe Since World War 1 and he is very knowledgeable about the topic and provides a lot of information. The workload is pretty reasonable. Two papers, 3(?) exams, and discussion questions due for each of the books we read. He is very nice and helpful and wants you to succeed. He is a very fair grader and I think gives you the benefit of the doubt on things. I would recommend him.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3348 - I took Hendon for an upper level class (Hitler and the Holocaust), so if you're here for a lower class the structure might be different. But Hendon knows absolutely EVERYTHING about what he teaches, and he's even been to some of the places he talk about, where he posts pictures HE took in the slideshows. However, I only stayed interested in lectures because I am extremely passionate about learning about the material; he talks quietly and does not provide a lot of stimulus to stay awake if you're not as already interested as I am. We had for a TR class 2 essays, 2 tests, the final, and then assignments due at various times. The reading for the assignments are RIDICULOUS; I ended up having to search out the answers to the questions instead of reading the whole section. ***But, you can probably find the book in the library instead of buying it. Look there first.*** I loved being in Hendon's class, and would definitely take him again. I'm not so sure about my classmates, because of his lack of, voice, in his voice.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:HIS 1305 - This class is an easy A. The only reason I didn't make an A is because I did not take the readings seriously. Your quiz grade average is a big portion of your grade, so make sure you actually read for the quizzes. Tests are easy if you study. His powerpoints aren't very helpful because most of them are just pictures. He rambles and sometimes yells, but he's a pretty nice guy. The lectures aren't very helpful, so give yourself enough time to read on your own to prepare for the quizzes/tests.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:History 1305 - I took Dr. Hendon's class (last spring 2017). He will randomly yell during class, which kept everyone wide awake for our 8am. Onto to more serious topics, Dr.Hendon explains the material very well. He posts all of his PowerPoints on canvas. It is helpful to take additional notes, since the PowerPoints just contain an outline. There are quizzes almost on a weekly basis. They are very easy. Just do the reading and you will receive a 100! The exams contain multiple choice questions and an essay. The multiple are very easy. Dr. Hendon will give you four potential essay topics and will choose two for the exam. You are allowed to pick from the two he chooses to put on the exam. I always prepared for all four and wrote an outline and memorized it. Then whichever I felt more comfortable with I would choose on the exam. Additionally, you write one paper, which is not hard. You will receive an A if you actually try. This is a good GPA builder class and fun if you enjoy history! Hope this helps!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1305 - Professor Hendon is a funny old guy. He's pretty weird cause he just randomly yells throughout his lectures, but he really cares about what he's teaching. The class is pretty easy, just make sure you do the assigned readings because the quiz questions are pretty indicative of whether or not you actually read. Just pay attention to the PowerPoints during class (which he also puts up on Canvas so you can go look there if you miss class). He also gives the essay questions in advance, so make sure you prepare well for those. He's kind of picky on the essay questions. Overall, I kind of liked him.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1305 - On the first day of class I was so excited because I was like "oh hey look at this cute old man" but then slowly but surely he made me question rather or not life was worth living. He was incredibly rude to his students and doesn't care about them. His reading assignments are dreadful and his powerpoints are just random words with pictures on them. He will yell randomly during his lectures and sometimes he likes to re-inact things in the first person and it's super uncomfortable to watch. Seriously. Don't take him.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:SW - Social World - This guy doesn't give a crap, and it shows. He has tties a sweet old man routine that you can kind of enjoy? But it doesn't make up for the facr that he phones it in all the time. He is very smart, but just can't be bothered with much when it comes to small group, emails, or every thing else that goes into being a good teacher, especially for the BIC. Avoid him and get someone who wants to build relationships with studends and knows that we're in the BIC because we want to get more out of our college experience. If he only wants to do the minumum, why does he teach classes with a small group?  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1305 - One of the worst teachers I have ever had. Very boring lectures, and the material is not relevant nor does it actually incorporate world history. We spent a month on christianity and a day on each area of the world. We have already had Christian Heritage, we don't need to take it again in world history. He was picky on insignificant things in grading (such as spelling or indenting sources.) He has made it known that he does not care about his students either. When I had a problem in class his response was "what do you want me to do about it." and walked off. I learned nothing new in this class and it was a waste of time. He also randomly starts yelling at the class in lectures and it is rude and annoying. Do not take him.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2014-11-19

Comments:1305 - This class is easy but Professor Hendon babbles on about things that are completely unrelated to the material that will be on the test. When he tells stories it's extremely entertaining because he randomly yells things but overall this is one of the most boring classes I've ever been apart of  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:BIC 1314 - He’s that sweet old man sort of professor, but that has both pluses and minuses. He is very nice and is knowledgeable, and is very familiar with how things work in the BIC. However, he also doesn’t seem to put a lot of effort into our small group, and never did anything extra, which I heard is pretty common for World I profs. Sometimes, he seemed kind of dismissive of different points of view in discussion, and could get really stuck on repeating one or two ideas or themes, which could make small group drag. Also, he seemed to talk about Asian cultures different than Western ones, and not in a good way. I guess maybe that’s a generational thing. He is a pretty fair grader, but doesn’t get stuff back super fast. Overall, I didn’t mind small group, but with so many options, I wouldn’t mind trying someone else, since I had friends who’s small group leaders did more interesting activities and were more dedicated, and I’ve had way better profs for II and III so far.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1305 - Okay so I agree he should probably retire but he loves what he does so much I doubt that's in his agenda. He really doesn't know how to exactly tach to understanding so read every night as you should. There are quizzes on discussion days that are specified on your syllabus so you'r not caught off guard. 5 questions multiple choice. His exams are 60/40. 20 multiple choice worth 60 percent and a short essay with 40 percent. The good part is he posts up 4 prompts on blackboard prior to the exam so you can have an idea of which one will come up. The catch is he only choose 2 out of those 4 prompts and puts those two on the exam, you can choose one to talk about. In essence, you have to know a lil about all 4 prompts so you have something sensible to write when you pick on on the exam out of the 2 from the 4 that he'd provide. You also have a topic to research, write a 2 page simple paper on and present it to the class, slide shows are a boost to grade not a harm. So you have quizzes, exams and 1 presentation. Read and practice prompts. Don't rely on class notes, just show up for attendance sake. Good luck  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:Social World 2 - He is a very sweet old man! Most of his classes consist of him trying to get his class to be quiet. He also does a lot of group activities...  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1305 - Dr. Hendon is a very nice man. He tries his best to be interesting and while many of my classmates found the class boring, I personally enjoyed it. The tests are not very hard if you know all the terms on his review sheet and the presentation/essay is pretty easy as well. The quizzes are what brought my grade down a bit because I didn't really read the selections carefully, but I still managed to get an A. He tries to get everyone in the class to talk and he'll randomly yell something out in class to get people's attention. All in all, I liked this class and would recommend taking it.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2013-12-19

Comments:HIS 4337 - Dr. Hendon is such a nice man. He is a very effective lecturer because he'll randomly yell things in the middle of class. The workload is very manageable, read a couple books and answer questions, write a short paper, and take a couple tests. He is a pretty easy grader. He is really passionate about this subject, so he loves to talk to students about history. If you're looking for a good professor who grades pretty easy, then definitely take Hendon!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2012-05-08

Comments:BIC SW2 - Dr. Hendon is a wonderful man, and I hear he is absolutely fabulous for History of Modern Germany and really good for World 1. Social World...No. While this isn't completely his fault - the entire class this semester, large and small groups, has been appallingly bad - his lecture style is too soft and there's not enough discussion. Without discussing, there's few of us that were able to stay alert. He's really nice outside of class - I talked to him at a dinner once, and he tells the most amazing stories about growing up during Jim Crow and the Civil Rights Movement - but Social World this semester was just awful.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2012-04-09

Comments:1305 - The class isn't very hard, it just isn't very interesting. I like that Dr. Hendon likes to talk about the culture and the stories, and he sometimes will show video clips along with his lectures. The readings that we have quizzes over are just stories and texts from the period we're reading, so it's not actual memorizing facts and dates, which is nice. The quizzes are only 5 questions, so make sure you actually read it. I found the other book wasn't necessary to read, but it helped clarify anything and helped prepare for tests. Tests have 20 multiple choice questions that are pretty difficult and specific. For the essay part he gives the class 4 possible questions before the test, then picks 2 to put on the actual test, and you only have to pick 1 to write about, so that's how the majority of points are made. There's one project all year where you get to pick your topic, make a presentation, and write a 5 page paper. It's really easy to make a good grade on that. Overall the class isn't bad, just not very interesting during lectures, but Dr. Hendon is a very nice man and wants his students to do well.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2011-05-03

Comments:1305 - Dr. Hendon's class is not difficult, however, it is so BORING! I found it very difficult to stay awake in his class, but he would randomly get really enthusiastic about what he was covering, and I'd wake up. He assigns one paper, and if you put forth effort, it's not that bad. He grades all essays very easy! As long as you give him an idea that you know what you're talking about, he'll give you a good grade. He gives seven reading quizzes and takes the best 5 grades, but the questions are very detail oriented. There are two tests that are 20 multiple choice questions and an essay. He gives four essay questions to study for prior to the test. On the test, there are two choices, and you only have to write about one. Take notes, and try not to fall asleep, and the class won't be hard at all.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:His 1305 - I had Dr. Hendons class at 8:00 in the morning and it was difficult to pay attention that early, but his random outbursts kept me somewhat awake. the material was a little dry, but he kept it kind of interesting. There were reading quizzes about every other week that weren't too bad if you read closely. There is one paper you have to write and present, but you chose your time period and presentation date. The tests were 20 multiple choice and an essay. The questions are pretty specific and most of the time are from the notes. He posts four essay topics about a week before the test and then chooses two to be on the test and you write about one. I wrote on three of them before hand so that i would be good for the test. Overall it's not a real hard class if you put a little effort into it, and Dr. Hendon is really nice and willing to help. Just don't take this class at 8.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:BIC 1314 - Dr. Hendon is a wonderful teacher. He is quirky but really knows history. He is very kind and cracks some pretty funny jokes every now and then. Make sure to work extra hard on essays, because he grades hardest on these.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2009-12-06

Comments:German History - He is a great professor. Take him if you really care about history. He won't just give you facts to memorize, he gives you the story as it happened with all the conflicting interests. I am not a history major but I loved listening to his lectures. When you take his essay question test you may walk away thinking you didn't do well but when you get the grade your like WOW, I didn't read half of the material and I still got a B just from listening to the lectures.   - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2009-05-24

Comments:1305 - I love Dr. Hendon. This man is so sweet and interesting. He is pretty odd but it makes the class even better. This class isn't too terribly difficult. He doesn't grade essays too hard. There are three tests with multiple choice and an essay. He provides four separate topics before the test and then puts two of those topics on the test, you only have to write on one. There are two essays assigned throughout the semester. You get to pick your own topic and due date. You have to present on at least one but if you present on both, it helps your grade. He gives extra credit for going to lectures. Go to class, it is worth it. I wish I could take Hendon for 1307.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2009-05-18

Comments:1305 - SO boring and his teaching style is a little bit hard to follow. There are 2 research papers and 2 tests (60% essay and 40% mult. choice). He is very skittish and yells every once in a while during his lecture, probably just to wake everyone up. I would not take him if I had another choice.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2009-04-19

Comments:1305/4336 - Dr. Hendon seems like an awkward guy, but he's actually really nice privately. A class like 1305 is not something he's particularly interested in, so at times he can be a little boring, but it's not an impossible class to make an A in. If you have an interest in history (I'm a major), it's interesting anyway. 1305 had two easy ~5 page writing assignments (made a 96 on both), quizzes over primary source reading (could sometimes be hard), and tests that weren't too difficult. Tests were multiple choice and essay, and he gave you 4 possible essay topics before hand, of which he'd give you two. 4336 (Modern Europe) is something he's much more interested in, and as a result, a much more interesting class. Still not too difficult, because Dr. Hendon is a notoriously easy grader on writing assignments. Two ~5 page writing assignments (NO RESEARCH PAPER) over a historian comparison and a primary source analysis. We had about 10 reading assignments over the course of the semester, and you answered easy questions over seven of them. Most of the books are pretty interesting. Tests were a short answer and essay, and he gives you the essay topic beforehand. Dr. Hendon seems boring, at first, but if you just listen to what he has to say he's very interesting, particularly on subjects that he's personally interested in (Modern Europe being his area of expertise - World History to 1500 not so much).  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2009-03-30

Comments:1305 - I would not reccomend Dr. Hendon at 8 o clock in the morning. Dr. Hendon is kind of different. He kind of an awkward man and it was a very awkward experience when I had to talk to him after class a couple times. The class had 3 test and 2 papers, and the only other grades are random quizzes about pages you read in the book. He grades the papers easy, and the tests are pretty hard, because he bases the multiple choice on primary sources, and he picks random questions so it is pretty much impossible to study for. He gives you 4 possible essay topics before the test and he picks 2 of those and you pick one to write about on the test. He grades harder on the essays on the test than the research papers. Overall, this class wasn't too hard, but had a lot of random and detailed material on the test.   - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2008-05-17

Comments:1305 - Mr. Hendon is a very nice guy; he let me reschedule my exam when I told him I didn't get a chance to study. There are 3 exams and 2 projects and he grades on participation. But his lectures can be very interesting as long as you have even a remote interest in history. His class focuses on religion from prehistoric times until the 1400s, it was like the historical version of Christian Heritage.   - Grade In Class:C+

Date: 2008-04-14

Comments:1305 - Should have been an A. T his class was the most boring class i have taken while at Baylor. I got up in the middle of class to talk to people in the hall i was so bored. You cram, and learn nearly nothing.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2007-08-08

Comments:Mod Ger/ Europe Since WWI - Dr. Hendon is a great professor! He gets so excited about what he teaches, which makes it hilarious to hear his impressions of different historical figures. I had him in the fall of 2004 and spring 2005- pulled a B+ in both classes- thats only b/c I had a lot of absences. Take him!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2005-07-06

Comments:BIC 1314 - I LOVED Dr. Hendon's World Cultures I class last semester. We deemed him "the sweet old man" because he's just so nice. He can be hard to understand sometimes, but you can definitely count on him to say hi when he runs into you outside of class. Our WC1 class was invited over (well, sort of) to his house for some great food--he's a great cook, too! Ask about his car--the Prius is awesome. His personality is wonderful, and he's always good with answering questions in class. As far as class went, WC1 is easy--if you do the reading, you're set, and make sure you pay attention to details that could show up on pop quizzes. About five of our lowest quizzes are dropped, and the hardest quizzes seemed to be over the Bible (if you go through Exodus thinking, "I saw the Charlton Heston movie," it'll hurt on pop quiz time). The final is oral--other students rate you, and they're pretty fair about stuff as long as you know what you're talking about. If you hate discussion, don't be in the BIC, but if discussion is your thing, WC1 is a great class. I think I only needed 30 points on the final for an A. I highly recommend Dr. Hendon for small group!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Mod. Germany - I had him for 1307 and he was great but, in this class he was very boaring.   - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2004-12-28

Comments:Hist to 1400 - He is really boring but he's a really nice guy who really loves history. His tests are not too bad if you study for them but its pretty hard to get an A but easy to at least get a B. He's really nice but its really hard to stay awake at his lectures.   - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2004-12-15

Comments:HIS1305 - I adore Dr. Hendon. He is the sweetest man, and he does not grade hard at all. I made an A in the class with no problem and little reading except for before the tests. The tests were not that hard if you studied, and the papers were easy--just make it the right length and on topic, basically. I highly recommend taking Hendon.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2004-11-21

Comments:HIS 1305 - Dr. Hendon is such a little cute old man! History is not one of my favorite subjects but he tried to make it as interesting as possible. There are two research papers in the course of the semester, but they are short, you get to choose your topic, and he grades them pretty easily. He gives extra credit for speaking up in class. He always takes attendance but doesn't count tardies. Attendance is a part of your participation grade. Hendon loves discussion and about once every other week, you are supposed to read about a few topics in the book and discuss them with the class as a group, but he gives you time to prepare beforehand so it really isn't necessary to prepare before class. Actually I've gotten through the class without reading at all. His tests consist of 40 multiple choice questions usually about trivial people or matching facts and events, but he doesn't require you to know any dates. Each test also has an essay that he grades very sparingly on.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2004-04-27

Comments:HIS 1305 - You can tell he absolutely loves what he does! Though gets rather excited when talking about blood and war, he can at times be a bit boring. Tests are easy if you study. Not bad at all.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2004-04-02

Comments:1314 - Dr. Hendon was a nice professor, although rather boring. If there was a reading, 99.9% of the time there was a quiz. Quizzes were mostly easy, if you read and pay attention! Essays and extended learnings required thought, you can't BS your way through them, believe me, I tried. There are better cultures professors out there, but like you have a choice, seeing as how they are randomly assigned. Best advice, display a clear thesis & transitioning paragraph sentences in your writing to get a good grade. Other than that, good luck!  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2003-12-09

Comments:BIC 1314 - He seems to be a little bit of an introvert, but there was never a question that he didn't answer well. He's generous with points on essays (doesn't count off on picky things). He doesn't have much control over the workload, as it is BIC. Tests were pretty easy.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2003-11-13

Comments:World Civ - I don't like him. His class is boring, he's no help, and he's not personable at all. I had a major death in my family and he cut me off and told me about his friend who had the flu. I say don't take him unless you want to spend the entire time wishing you were anywhere else and never getting the grade you want on his horrible tests.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2003-11-04

Comments:world history - lectures are boring powerpoints but will be on the test; he does not post them on the internet; have to write a couple of medium papers; tests have a lot of essays that he grades hard but some mul choice too; he doesn't care to meet his students; i worked for an A but got a B

Comments:Had him twice...he's not hard...boring lecturer...always let us out late...tests were all essay...

Comments:I love his class. His a great teacher.

Comments:Hendon was pretty cool. I thought his BIC WC1 course was a little boring, and I didn't so much enjoy the format of the small group discussions. Then there was the large-group lecture slip of the tongue that turned his discussion of organism into ORGASM ... But I digress.

Comments:HIS1305 - enjoyable lectures, tests weren't overly hard, and I learned quite a bit. be prepared to do your assignments, however. if you do them, you will do well.

Comments:i took world history. the lectures where generally interesting, but the test where usually more detailed. he does not curve, and only offers extra credit if applicable lectures are held on campus. u must right 2 papers for this class and give presentations for both. tests are a mixture of matching and one or more essay questions.

Comments:Dr. Hendon is a very bright man but he does not have a lot of people skills. Needs to work on teaching technique and getting his points across.

Comments:Interesting lectures, you are never bored. Maybe it was just me, but I had trouble and he was absolutely no help. No encouragement.
