Comments:SOC 1305 - He is a really good professor, I found every lecture very interesting and easy to follow along with. He makes you write all notes by hand which wasn't my favorite, but he posts all slides in case you missed something. Exams are directly from the slides however I wouldn't recommend you memorize them because you won't do well you have to actually understand them and be able to apply them, only memorize names and definitions. There will be readings before every chapter and pop quizzes on them, however he only keeps your top 5.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1305 - I would definitely recommend taking his class. The other reviews are correct that he is probably difficult to reach because he doesn't have office hours, but I never found myself needing them. As long as you follow the rubric for papers and assignments you'll get good grades (I got 100s on all papers and I am not a strong writer). Overall, take his class its so possible to get an A.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:SOC 1305 - This class is very annoying a times. While it is not too much workload wise Rhodes has no office hours and does not respond to emails. The class includes 4 papers and 3 exams. He is EXTREMELY liberal so if that's what you're looking for great but I was stunned at the way he approached some things.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:soc1305 - Take this class! You dont have to take notes during lectures because everything you need to know on the exam is on the last slide. Theres about 10 quizzes that are 5 questions each straighy from a short reading (theyre actually interesting) basically once a week and he keeps your highest five scores. There are three writings due before each exam and it literally takes thirty minutes to write and they're easy A's. He's really funny and an overall nice guy and he makes his class interesting. Definetly take him!!!!!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:4352 - IF YOU WANT TO TAKE CRIMINOLOGY, AVOID AT ALL COSTS. He might be alright for intro according to these reviews, but he is not good for upper level sociology courses. He never replies to emails, lectures are not good, and he makes this class so much more difficult than it should be... especially for a sociology course. The exams are very long with 5-8n essay questions that are not easy. There is also a semester long paper that he gave little to no guidance nor feedback on. Once again, I cannot emphasize how awful the exams are. There is also about 30-40 pages of reading due a week for a FIVE QUESTION quiz with only FIVE MINUTES to take it. So you are doing all that reading for only 5 questions, which can be super specific and detailed. He makes the class boring, even though the content is not. Avoid if possible - unfortunately this was my only option for criminology. It seems like he wants to make the course difficult just for the sole purpose of making it difficult and "Academically advancing or nourishing our minds". Thats the way he thinks basically. Good luck.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:SOC 1305 - There was hardly any work in this class rather than a couple readings and 3 essays. I highly suggest completing the essays ahead of time since the tests are often on days right after the night they're due. For the professor himself, Rhodes was extremely likable and lectured with passion. The tests contain 40 multiple choice and 4 short answer questions that're relatively straightforward and should give you no trouble whatsoever. If you want to learn the material for the MCAT or GRE you'll be adequately prepared.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1305 - Dr. Rhodes is the easiest professor I could have had in order to fulfill my sociology credit. His lectures are highly engaging and he is very open towards cohesion within the classroom setting and asking open-ended questions to his students. There is no textbook in the class and everything is based on the slides and very short readings. He gives weekly pop-quizzes that are on the first day of a new lecture/topic, so you know when the quiz will be. He only keeps the 5 highest quiz grades and drops all of the rest. The quizzes are based on short readings over sociology topics pertaining to the following lecture. After doing well on the first 5 quizzes, which were very easy and straightforward, I stopped doing the readings as they no longer affected my grade. He also drops the lowest test grade, so the final is optional. However, he also has some perks. He does not allow any devices in class, SO YOU HAVE TO HANDWRITE YOUR NOTES. He also does not post the complete lecture slides with all of the fill in the blanks, so you have to keep up with it, though he is open towards sending completed lectures if you miss something. I had to print a LOT of lecture slides due to this and I had to make sure to keep up with them so I could study them for the exams. Overall, he's a very good and easy professor and I would 100% recommend him.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Soc 1305 - Jeremy is a great professor! I really enjoyed this class! The workload isn't too bad. There are 5 or 6 reading quizzes over assigned readings, 4 tests (he drops the lowest, including the final), and 3 sociology in the media assignments. Jeremy makes class funny and interesting. Take him!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1305 - Jeremy is the best to take for Sociology, period. The beginning of the semester is the worst, the foundational stuff seems so difficult to grasp, but it gets easier and more interesting as the semester progresses. Please read the articles before class (they're not that long, but take forever to read because they're so boring). You only get 2 points max from each quiz, but that actually goes towards your final grade, so it matters in the end. The SIM assignments are okay, the worst part is finding an article (don't procrastinate till the night before, since you still have to study for the test). The tests are easy to study for, just go to class, fill in the powerpoints, and you'll be find. Since our class was so giant, we never had random journals or essays on the tests, which was a great bonus. He wasn't extremely easy, it's not a blow off class, it definitely requires time and effort, but getting the A is worth it!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1305 - Dude this guy is a baller. Sometimes there are classes where he teaches really boring topics, and well they're just boring lol. But whenever we get into interesting topics, which is like over 60% of the time, since sociology is pretty interesting already, he tries really hard to make class fun! We watched A LOT of video clips in this class and even watched a couple of movies! His discussions are really fun, and seriously he is like freakin hilarious! The workload for his class isn't too bad. You have 3 grades. Quizzes, Sociology in the Media, and Exams. The quizzes are easy, I just cheated though. The Sociology in the Media assignments are just basically like current events, and they are worth a big chunk of your grade even though it is really easy. And the exams are pretty easy if you study for them. I didn't study at all for the first test and got an 82... That's how easy his tests are. And he offers 2 chances to get an extra 5 points on your test if you participate in a sociology study which is fun in itself. Overall, this guy is really great! Like he is such a good teacher, I would recommend him to anyone. Even if you don't need to take sociology, take this guy!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Soc 1305 (Intro) - Rhodes is the BEST for sociology! His class isn't hard at all, and it's fairly interesting. He does a lot of asking the class for stories and examples and videos, so it's not just him talking at you. There are 3 tests plus the final, and he drops one, so if you're okay with your grade after 3 tests you can skip the final. The tests are all multiple choice and not too hard- I never read the book, just the notes and was fine. He has short articles to read that go with each section and there are quizzes over some of them. They aren't hard and there are only 5-6 per semester. And there is a short article review due for each test (3 a semester). Again, not hard, takes less than an hour. So take Rhodes if you can! It's a laid back class, and it's probably the least reading you'll get away with in the soc department.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1305 - Jeremy is one of the best professors I've had during my four years at Baylor. He is engaging, passionate about the subject matter, hilarious. It's very clear in group discussions that he's genuinely interested in students' opinions and personal experiences. I learned a ton in this class and never left a lecture without laughing out loud. Take Jeremy. He's the best and you'll learn a ton.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:SOC 1305 - Jeremy is the best sociology teacher at Baylor. He is really nice and wants his students to be successful. He gives three tests and an optional final, so if you like your grade before the final, you don't need to take it. He also gives about six quizzes over the course of the semester and drops one of those. Finally, there are three easy sociology in the media assignments due on test days. Getting an "A" in this class is not a problem, and you'll learn a lot and enjoy class, because Jeremy is really funny.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1305 - Dr Rhodes is a pretty good professor. He's definitely a fun guy and you'd rather just go hang out with him than have him teach a class. His lectures aren't the best. He mostly just reads the words off the powerpoints, which are full of wordy definitions. This class didnt really spark my interest in sociology, but as far as difficulty goes, it was a fairly simple class. A coulple assignments and tests are the grades. He also drops a test which is nice.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1305 - I really like Jeremy. He's funny and interesting and cool. His tests aren't hard at all. If you take good notes during class, you can study those and pull of a good grade in the class. I think if you read the book, it would be a lot easier to pull off an A He gives 5 pop quizzes through the entire semester over random articles, but if you keep up with the reading, they aren't very hard. I never read, got 50's on all the quizzes and still managed a solid B. He is definitely a good choice for Intro Soc.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1305 - I thought this class was really boring, the lectures seem really long and almost pointless. The tests are all applying the information and the way he phrases the questions can be really confusing. I didn't really feel like I learned much in this class.   - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:1305 - I really really liked this class...he is really cool and on the first day told everyone to call him Jeremy. he is very informal and jokes around in class a lot. he is a pretty funny guy... i was very interested in his class because we had cool discussions or videos each day. the tests are not very hard, you can get by in the class without reading the textbook once. just take good notes from the lectures, which is not very hard because he gives powerpoints, which you can print out and fill in the blanks. he always says to come talk to him if you have questions about tests or assignments, and he drops the lowest test grade, which includes the final. i would suggest taking this class he is really cool and i learned alot!  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1305 - Intro to Sociology - Jeremy is such a funny, interesting teacher! I am so glad I took him for this class. This class is really interesting, you just have to get past all of the foundational stuff at the beginning. Following the lectures is easy because you have powerpoints that you fill in the blanks. You have six quizzes that are over article readings and he dropped the lowest quiz grade. Every time you start a new chapter you have to read the article before coming to class. Then you may or may not have a quiz over it. There were four tests including the final but he drops the lowest test grade so you don't have to take the final if you are satisfied with your grade. Before each test you have to do a sociology in the media assignment which is basically a short paper. They are really easy. The tests are pretty difficult and require a lot of studying. He tells you that you have to read the book to do well, but I never read the book once and made A's on all of the tests. There were also two extra credit opportunities worth 1 or 3 points on your overall average. This class is so interesting, and I loved the discussions we had!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Intro to Soc - Amazing teacher. His tests aren't bad if you study and they are all multiple choice. There are 4 tests total, but one the lowest score is dropped. SO if you do well on your first three, you don't have to take a final! Also, reading the book and memorizing vocab really helped me on tests. There are lots of interesting in class discussions which make the time pass faster. Great teacher!   - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1305 - REALLY COOL GUY! I actually learned a lot in the class. We had 3 exams, one paper and the final (which could get dropped!!!). Pay attention to the class discussions bc those are the questions he'll ask on the essay part of his exams. Read the book and pay attention in class.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:intro - I love this man! haha he really wants to make sure you understand the information. he loves to hear any little stories you have. it's important to be in class as often as possible though because he has random essays. they're easy, but you don't want to miss them. if you ever have trouble he will help. his tests are more conceptual though (not definitions but application) but none of them are crazy hard  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1305 - AMAZING teacher. Three exams and a final, although the final is optional if your first three exams satisfy you. One paper, easy. Three in-class journals are basically your thoughts on the topic he offers, which are easy to write about. Just make sure you go to class, he doesn't announce when he will have those journals. He makes the classroom fun. We had a special guest toward the end of the semester.. very entertaining! Video clips, etc. are interesting. Skim through the book, study the presentations, know your vocabulary, you'll do fine. Kind of boring in the beginning because you gotta have some foundation for the latter part of the semester. I highly recommend him!!!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1305 - AMAZING TEACHER!! He's very interesting, shows video clips, and you do three tests and a final, which you dont have to take the final if your first three grades are good. The tests are pretty simple, if you pay attention and study the powerpoints then you will do fine. You have to write one paper, it's not to difficult and you write about three journals, which are technically just on your thoughts, easy grade. I LOVED HIM! take him :)  - Grade In Class:A
