Comments:sta 1380 - Dr.Maddox is a great teacher and goes over homework questions every class. The exams were easier than the homework and the reviews. there are so many opportunities for extra credit. considering all this, I think anyone who didn't earn an A was probably just neglectful of doing the work to learn the content and she deserves a far higher score. She tries to give partial credit on the free response and there are only 3 exams.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Stats 1380 - I absolutely adore this woman and I was genuinely shocked when I saw she had a lower rating. Dr. Maddox is truly one of the best teachers/professors I have ever had. She knows the content 100% and is also so good at teaching it and explaining it in multiple ways until it makes sense. She never makes you feel stupid even if you realize later you were being an airhead. The homework was average, but it is math so the only way to do well is to practice. There's homework quizzes every week, but she reviews any questions before it opens. There's no reason not to have a good homework grade. She also allows a whole front sheet of paper for all exams, and 3 for the final! You can put anything you want on it. She also has a personality and is not boring. Even in a class of 200, I didn't feel like just a number. She genuinely cares and wants us to succeed. I am going to miss her so much!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1380 - Dr. Maddox is a great person, don't get me wrong. I don't like how she teaches. She fills in her own notes in the book, and the homework questions are always more complicated than what we did in class, or there are no examples to show how to work the problem. I went to every SI session that she offered and even went to tutoring. When I went to tutoring, they never helped and sent me away one day because they didn't know how to solve or explain the problems. My class size was huge. The whole year, I didn't know my grade in the class. The only grade I knew about was my homework grade. You will only know your class grade once you prepare for the final and calculate what you need to pass. Alot of people do like her cause she is a nice lady dont get me wrong I personally feel like I could not learn in the class and had a very hard time.  - Grade In Class:D

Comments:1380 - Dr. Maddox truly knows the material and is a great lecturer, you cannot deny it. Honestly the hardest part of this course is the content itself, but she will successfully teach you the material and prepare you for exams. It is reasonable to succeed in her class if you attend class, keep up with the homework, and study reasonably for exams. She can be a little intimidating at times, but is so helpful and provides so many resources to succeed in her class! If you need to take this course, I would highly recommend her! You WILL learn and walk away from the course with a sufficient foundation in statistics.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1380 - Literally the best professor I have had at Baylor. She is incredible at her job and knows the material so well. Also her outfits are always a slay  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1380 - *summer session* Dr. Amy Maddox truly is the best professor. Her textbook is the notes, homework and study guide. You won't miss a thing during lecture because her lecture is in the textbook. You fill in as you listen to the videos and she stays according to her schedule (but make sure you stay with the schedule, don't fall behind). The quizzes are based on the homework in the textbook, which you can use and get an easy 100. Each exam given you are allowed a one-sided sheet of notes in which you can put anything you need on it. The exams are a mixture between multiple choice and fill in the answer. Know the material (formulas, steps, keywords). If you need help reach out to her! She will respond right away and look to help you. She's extremely approachable and wants to help you understand so don't be afraid to visit office hours.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1380 - Dr. Amy Maddox is the BEST! She is so personable, amazing at teaching, super sweet, and will always help you out if you need help in the class. I am not a math person whatsoever, but she has made it so easy! The homework and homework quizzes are a little much to balance, but that is just the class in general. Make sure to keep up with the homework to be best prepared for the exams.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1380 - as someone who is not a math person, I loved taking professor Maddox she made me understand stats for the first time! the course is manageable with a multiple choice quiz due every week based off the homework. her tests are not hard and were allowed to bring a sheet of notes into the test with us. I would highly recommend taking her class.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1380 - Have 0 idea why her rating is so low. If you have to take this class, take Dr. Amy Maddox!!! She is first off a great, funny person who truly cares for her students and understands that life happens. Second, she wrote the textbook so she knows what she is talking about. She explains the material well. Talking with students who have other teachers, Maddox explains much more in depth and actually goes at a slower pace. She even skips over sections or moves test days back. My #1 recommendation-- GO TO HER OFFICE HOURS. She will explain every problem clearly and check your answers (which you will be quizzed on so might as well get free points). Plus, you get to know her as a person and she's cool. 10/10 recommend, would not take this course with a different teacher. As someone who is not a math person, she makes math doable.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2022-04-20

Comments:1380 - Professor Maddox excels in her availability and the fact that she teaches out of a textbook that she herself wrote. Do all of the practice problems for the exam, and keep up to date on the homework. If you just get answers from somebody else, you're hurting yourself and will not do well on the exam. For her final exam, it is concepts and ideas from the book, NOT practice problems like past tests, so be careful about that. Above all else, come to class. You're screwed if you miss class.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1380 - Re-weighed all of our grades last minute and caused all of our grades to drop about 10+ points, so our grades on Canvas were inaccurate all semester. Would not discuss extra credit, and answered all questions regarding grading vaguely.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1380 - Elem Stats! This class is nowhere near the difficulty of a college-level calculus or other math class but it's not a blow-off class either. It truly is a 3 hour class where you put in a 5ish hours of homework a week and you take a quiz over it at the end of the week. I took this as a hybrid course and I wish it was either fully online or better, fully in person. I felt I missed stuff when I didn't watch the lectures but not going to class you don't get help on the homework. Dr. Maddox doesn't give extra credit but she gives an 89.5 as an A and she lets you use your books and tables on the test (this semester for covid) AND she grades your highest test a 35%, middle 25%, and worst 20% which really helps you if you do really good on at least one test! Overall I would take this class with her again but I didn't realize she likes for you to know HER process and she will test if you can solve the problems using HER way she taught you (why I got a 79 on first test I didn't copy down all her steps and she wanted them!) Yay Dr. Maddox though she's super great and gives all her glory to God too! Take this class with her!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2020-12-06

Comments:1380 - I really disliked this class. The class I took was hybrid due to the pandemic so that could contribute to how bad it was for me. But she made her own textbook that you have to buy and use. It is the only thing you use in class. There was homework quizzes once a week and were not that easy. I basically had to teach myself a lot in this class so if that is what you're looking for, this is the class for you. Her class was dreadful go to because it was so hard for me to understand what she was talking about half the time. This class is not a fun time but if you have to take it, try looking at other professors first. We also only had 3 tests that were not much like the homework. I'm sure if you understand the material you will be fine but I did not feel Maddox prepared me to do well.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:1380 - Awesome class! I was skeptical about taking a math class in a lecture setting but I am so impressed. Dr. Maddox's lessons were so comprehensive and easy to follow, she did an awesome job explaining things and answering questions before we even knew to ask them. She was so friendly and helpful before and after class, she made sure we always knew her door was open, she even reached out to me once over email about a shirt I was wearing during an online exam (due to COVID, her exams are typically in the classroom), which is an awesome example of just how approachable she is. If you missed a lecture or were just confused she posted video recorded lectures to go along with everything we went over in class, which was so helpful. Her exams don't have preset dates, she decides exam dates as she feels the class is ready, because of that she never gets behind her schedule. Homework for each chapter and quizzes every weekend DIRECTLY off the homework. We were never given an answer key for the homework, but she always makes sure there is class time to ask questions about it before the quiz. Really an awesome class and I HIGHLY recommend taking every class you can with her. My advice for the class though: just buy the book. I tried to save money and rent it but it didn't work out and I was sulking about having to buy it but it's so worth it. She wrote the textbook and it also serves as a notes outline and it is so worth buying the book just to be able to utilize that resource.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1380 - Maddox is a great professor and made me enjoy stats. Stats is not an easy class, but she made sure to go over the difficult topics in depth. Her tests are exactly like her homework and review guides. She goes over the homework in class, so if you can do the homework successfully, you'll be success on the tests. She is a very honest professor. She tells the class a lot about herself and engages with students very well.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Sta 1380 - Maddox is a good choice for this class because she gives you lots of examples of certain concepts in her textbook and in extra homework worksheets, etc., which is good because the test questions are never really a novel concept for you to work on. Got a 100 on the first exam, took my foot of the gas pedal and the remainder of the class only got easier from there.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2019-06-26

Comments:2381 - I did not enjoy this class at all. I think the reason I got an A in the class was because I took AP Stats in high school which is basically the same class. Dr. Maddox uses outdated methods and prefers her own way over the universal methods used in statistics. For example, she wrote her own fill-in-the-blank textbook which is pretty unhelpful. She cares more about you doing the work her way instead of the right way so if you want a good grade forget everything you knew before and just do what she does. Her textbook is poorly written overall and I feel like if she used a standard stats textbook the course would be much better. In class she lectures along the book. She will help you a little in office hours but is kind of rude especially in emails. The homework quizzes take an extremely long time and canvas requires you to have exact numbers (within 0.0001) which is extremely difficult in stats. Her tests are not hard but they are weird as they include multiple choice, short answer, fill in the blank and almost any other question type you can imagine. Some of these questions are confusing because she writes them as if you know what she's thinking and some of the multiple choice questions have up to 16 different answers which seems absurd. I would recommend taking a different professor if you can. If you have to take Maddox you will survive just do what she says.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2381 - At first I was very nervous in taking this class, but I ended up loving this class. The workload is doable if you keep on top of it and her quizzes come straight from the homework, but, be careful bc if you round wrong, it could cost you 10 points. The tests are pretty much straightforward, she doesn't try to trick you. Dr. Maddox is super nice and approachable with any questions. Overall, I enjoyed this class, def would recommend  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2381 - I loved dr Maddox! She has a great system of teaching through powerpoint. Some people didn't like that but it worked for me. The class was very organized and she put up lectures online. I never took stats before so I had to put in a few extra hours but it is doable. Her tests (3) are straightforward and she does bonus questions. The HW is time consuming and "JMP" is annoying, but its how you learn. Also, you have to put the EXACT 4th decimal in the HW or else the whole thing is wrong, which is a little annoying. You have to buy the book. Overall, a very nice professor that made stats less stressful.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:STA1380 - If you can take someone else, I would recommend it. The class starts fast and doesn't get any slower. The fill in the blank book is pretty unhelpful, and unfortunately that is the only textbook allowed for this class. I think she expects her students to have taken calculus before her class, because there are so many symbols and formulas that I had never seen before because I haven't taken calculus before. She doesn't explain these symbols either. The examples in the book are not a representation of all the ways to work all the homework problems, so theres some you just have to guess. The quizzes really are not too bad, as long as you do the homework. She says someones grade was raised from a 50-something to a 90-something on one of the quizzes because they turned in their work for it, which is really hard to believe because I turned in mine and it really didn't help my grade hardly at all. You also never really know if your work is correct because you are not allowed to see what you got wrong and what you got right for the answers on tests and quizzes. So it's basically just a toss-up and you get to play fun guessing games as to what part of your statistical work was correct based on zero information. The tests (2 total), however, are very difficult. The formulas she gives are not very helpful and lack what you really need. The book is very unclear and VERY, VERY vague, so theres some questions that you just simply do not know the straight answer to. The quizzes are absolutely not enough to prepare you for these tests. Turning in the work for the tests is also not very helpful; I turned mine in for test 1 the night of the test and she basically accused me of working the problems after taking the test (which is impossible unless I sat there while taking the timed test and wrote down every word problem), so I didn't get credit for my work. Even with the help of a tutor, I did not pass this class. She is accessible, but kind of rude? I sent her my homework for a quiz for her to review and she e-mailed me back- "why did you send me this". Another time, she had set the due date/time wrong for a quiz on canvas and I emailed her about it to let her know, and she got pretty sassy with me in the email and then corrected it the next day; so I'm not really sure how approachable she really is. Try to take someone else that uses an actual textbook.  - Grade In Class:D

Comments:STA 1380 - Dr. Maddox is fairly good professor. She is nice and tries her best to make lectures interesting, which is rare for a math prof. As far as workload goes, be careful, the class picks up VERY fast. The first test was an absolute cakewalk and I went into the second exam overly confident. There are only 2 exams in this class and then the final, and none of the exams are curved which I thought was strange for a statistics class with a focus on bell curves, but I digress. The quizzes suck. If you are off by .0001, the whole question is wrong on a 10 Q quiz. My advice would be to stay on top of material and don't get cocky after the first exam. This class ruined by 4.0, but it was my fault. Ugh.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:STA 2381 - Dr.Maddox is great!! I was really dreading stats, but she made it very doable and interesting. The workbook she wrote is great because the notes are fill in the blank, she does a lot of examples, and all the homework is in there. She is extremely helpful and will answer some hw questions in class. You only have 3 tests which is annoying but they are very fair. As long as you can do all of the homework questions, you'll be fine. She is very sweet and will tell funny story about her kids. She really cares about all of her students and is super encouraging. She's very "baylor" in that she prays for all her students and often talks about her faith. She doesn't force it on you or anything, its just a huge part of who she is. She has had a really rough past year and was super honest with us, but I do not think it affected her teaching ability at all. Just keep up with the homework and you will do fine!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1380 - This rating isn't for professor Maddox in particular, but she was the head class and what I want to criticize the most is her grading scale. All semester canvas indicates that I have a B and then the final grade comes out and it's a D....such bs and so misleading it is RIDICULOUS so if you take intro statsistics just know that your grade is not your real grade and you'll be screwed over in the end  - Grade In Class:D

Comments:STA 2381 - I was afraid to take her class due to all of the bad reviews I saw, but I was in for a really nice surprise. The way she structures her class is amazing and there's absolutely no way to go through her entire class without learning the material, unless you zoned out the entire time. She does give homework quizzes that are based directly off of the homework in the workbook (which she wrote, by the way) and the homework points are pretty much an easy grade booster. After the homework quizzes and the workbook notes, the material is pretty much ingrained and the tests are not hard because they're just like the homework. I only missed one class this semester, but she posts videos of each chapter's notes/lecture, so that info will be on canvas should you miss class and you don't have a friend to get it from. I enjoyed this class, and wouldn't mind taking her again!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2381 - As I read through these reviews, I can't help but disagree with most of them. Personally, I love Statistics and took the AP course in high school so this class was mostly a review for me, but she helped me better understand the reasoning behind the concepts. The class is very structured. You use a workbook that she wrote so she lecture powerpoint slides are word-for-word from the book and she has fill-in-the-blanks, which helps you follow along. Some may say that her homework is redundant, but I think that for a class like Statistics, you really need a lot of practice to make sure that you have the information down. She gives you the structure to work out every problem so as long as you study your notes, you'll be golden. In addition, at the beginning of class, she gives you time to ask questions about the homework before taking the homework quizzes. When she lectures, it can get kind of boring because she just reads straight from the powerpoint. But she makes up for this with her quirky and sassy personality. She makes a lot of jokes and tells funny stories about her kids. Bottom line: take these reviews with a grain of salt because I would definitely recommend taking her if you can!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2381 - This class was way too hard to be considered an intro class. There are only two exams, a final and a homework grade. It's hard to know what exactly is on each test even with the review she hands out so study everything! She is also a very tough grader! She takes off points for every little thing on the test so make sure to include every detail. I went to the stats lab every week and made review sheets for every chapter and I still couldn't pass the class. I would not take her again.  - Grade In Class:D

Comments:2381 - I really, really loved Dr. Maddox. I took AP Stat in high school, so a lot of this class was a review. At first she came off kind of strong, but she is a really amazing teacher. She teaches from a powerpoint that is fill in the blank from your textbook. There is homework every weekend that gets put into a quiz. Stats is a lot about knowing what situation you're in and then solving. I think it was hard for a lot of people knowing which situation to use. Dr. Maddox's tests weren't too hard as long as you studied quite a bit. Do lots of examples and review the symbols and theory, as well. Dr. Maddox would teach for about 15 minutes and then tell a funny story about her kids or her husband to give us a mind break. She also showed her faith very strongly throughout the semester, which was really inspiring. She prayed for us and gave us bible verses to help us, and stuff like that. I definitely recommend taking her for 2381 as long as you are willing to put in some work.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2015-12-22

Comments:STA 2381 - Honestly, I love this class. Dr. Maddox explains the concepts very well and most of the homework can be done without even asking for help. I don't know why she has such a low rating on here because she's a fine professor. Just do your homework and put a little effort into studying for the tests and you'll make an A easily. Weekly homework quiz online, she drops one and gives you a free 100 right off the bat. There are two tests and a final. Just stay on top of it and the A is there.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2015-12-08

Comments:STA 2381 - Statistics is just something that you have to get. It's not a math class. the actual math you do is either integrals from Calculus (Very little of this) or 5th grade math. The hardest part of the class is getting your mind around the terms and symbols. Dr. Maddox wrote her own book that is basically looseleaf notes bounded and has blanks for you to follow along with her powerpoint that is extremely well put together. She can come off as kinda Bi***y, but she's just doing her job. Tests (2 in the semester) 1 final are basically you doing problems, filling in definitions, and knowing symbols. Homework quizzes each weekend that are problems from the book verbatim that you do before each quiz. Overall, the class is well put together and she is fine.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2015-11-12

Comments:STATS 1380 - DO NOT TAKE HER. well I'm awful at math and she's an awful teacher. She doesn't teach very well so its hard to learn the material. also, weekly quizzes from the homework so if you understand the homework you will do great on the quizzes. Try and take someone else.  - Grade In Class:DROP

Date: 2015-05-16

Comments:STA 1380 - To begin: I am NOT a math person- very English/History focused.I specifically did not take a math class senior year of HS because I didn't have to. I came into this class dreading it because it was my first semester of college and I had heard horror stories of Stats classes. But I LOVED this class. Dr. Maddox does not seem like the friendliest teacher at first but once you get to know her it's easy to see that she really really cares about her students and wants us to do well. Here's what you really want to know: Tests: three tests that includes the final. Highest test grade is 35% of semester grade, Second is 30%, third is 20%, homework is 15%( this really helps your grade). The tests are pretty much like the textbook/workbook and straight-forward because she wrote the book. The only tricky part is that most of the questions are multiple choice which threw me for a loop in the first test. Final was not hard at all; just STUDY and know all of the processes. Honestly I felt like she made the final a bit easier than the other tests. DO NOT miss a test because you cannot retake it. Homework: Homework is turned in every week or so via an online quiz that is just a copy/paste of the workbook questions she assigns for each chapter. Make sure you do the questions BEFORE you take the quiz; then you can just input the answer. She drops your lowest quiz grade which is helpful if you forget one night and get a zero Tips for the class: Sit in the front(she has soft voice/it makes you pay attention). Do not get distracted on your phone or laptop. She doesn't care if you text but she will judge you for it. Find a study buddy and check homework with them- this helped me tremendously. Go to the Stats lab(seriously) if you need help and feel like her re-explaining the concept won't help. If possible avoid taking a TTR class. I would always forget on Tuesday what I had learned the previous thursday. Overall, TAKE HER! She writes the book so she know exactly what she is teaching- why take a grad student who is as unfamiliar with the book as you are? If you put in your work, pay attention in class and get help if needed you WILL succeed in this class.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2015-03-27

Comments:1380 - Difficult class. I took AP Stats in High School and figured I would come in and breeze through this - nope. A ton of course work, and the computer program JMP that we are *required* to use is extremely difficult to use. Always pay close attention, and show up to every single class or else you will be lost for all eternity. She tends to go too quickly on a lot of things and assumes the class understands what's going on, and it's kind of awkward if you stop class to ask her to explain because it is a large class and you are holding up the entire lecture. She has frequent office hours, which I wish I had taken advantage of, though I heard from someone else that they did not receive much helpfulness or kindness from her. If you take notes on a laptop, she assumes that you are not paying attention. The book you are required to purchase is overpriced ($80) considering that it is word-for-word what is written on the PowerPoints with fill-in-the-blanks, and I feel as though I would have gotten more out of the class if there were no lecture notes/workbook and I had to write or type everything myself (this helps with information retention).  - Grade In Class:D

Date: 2015-03-03

Comments:1380 - Dr. Maddox definitely knows her stats but I think that may be the problem... She understands the subject very well and doesn't exactly know how to relay the information in a way that her students will understand. She teaches like we already have previous knowledge or some sort of background in statistics... which we don't since this is an elementary stats course. I understood things pretty well after going home and trying to reteach myself the topics covered in class for the day, but it was a different story when it came to the exams. Math is my best subject and always has been. It's very easy for me to understand but these exams were not easy at all. The way she forms the questions is really confusing and the word problems are set up very different than in the book and on the homework. I'm really frustrated that this class (which is supposed to be relatively easy) is going to bring down my GPA.  - Grade In Class:C

Date: 2014-05-11

Comments:1380 - This class is insane for what it should be. It's a lower level intro course. I made an A in calculus and currently have a C in this class before the final. Your grade is based on homework assignments, two tests, and a final. That's it. I pay fantastic attention in class and the stats student that has tutored me before tests says my notes are amazing. I have a great average on the homework assignments and everything makes sense in class. However, my test average is terrible. I made a 70 and 73 on the two tests. It's not like me at all to make a bad grade like this and it's going to really pull down my GPA before I apply to nursing school which is a huge disappointment. I don't feel like the tests are at all an accurate reflection of what we do in class or on the homework. Hardly any of it is actual math; most of it is multiple choice, theoretical/vocabulary type questions which is strange for a math class. I would not recommend Maddox as a professor; if I could, I would have dropped this class earlier this semester but it would have put me under 12 hours. Actually, if you can, just take stats at a community college.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:STA - She covers a lot of material in every class and goes so fast that you barely have time to highlight anything in your notes. Gives you waaaay too much homework. Take her class only if it's your last and only option.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:STA 2381 - Maddox. Ugh. I took AP Stats in high school and got a 4 on the exam, so I knew my stuff coming into the class. I made As on all tests but one, but ended up getting a B+ because of poor attendance and not doing hw. Her homework is SO redundant. Even if I didn't know any stats... a lot of her assigned problems are completely unnecessary. She's not a bad teacher and explains the concepts well, but she LOVES talking about her kids. A LOT. She tells really sappy anecdotes about them and goes off on a tangent in her baby voice. Overall, I think she's not a bad teacher, but she annoys the bajeezers out of me.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2013-05-27

Comments:2381 - I had no previous experience with stats before this class. She is a very good teacher. She creates big notes packets that you go through in class and they are perfect study guides for the tests. There is a lot of homework, but if you do it, you will do well on the tests. If you do not do the homework you are in trouble. She is a great teacher and really cares that you understand the material. She likes to talk about her kids. My only criticism would be that she sometimes works through the notes too quickly, so it can be difficult to keep up with her.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:2381 - Dr. Maddox is sooo good. I highly recommend her. I had no background whatsoever in statistics, but I had no trouble doing well in her class. She gives one or two homework assignments a week, but they aren't hard and count towards your grade. Tests were multiple choice and free response. She prepares you really well with a review session before each test, as well as a review session during dead days for the final. I went to see her a couple of times in her office when I didn't understand something, and she was very helpful. Overall, I'd say I spent about two hours studying before each test. Believe me, she's awesome! If you want a class that's fun, doesn't involve much work, and is taught by a really cool prof, Maddox is for you.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2381 - She is a great professor. If you want to learn stats take her. Her class may be harder than some of the other professors, but it is do able for sure (my overall final grade was a 98). She always has a cute family story and shows students its okay to enjoy stats. She is wonderful take her and you will learn stats.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2381 - I didn't terribly like this class, but Dr. Maddox was a really good teacher. She's very straightforward and to-the-point, so you know what the important information is. She gives 12 graded HW/quizzes over the course of the semester and drops the lowest two - that's worth 15% of the grade. The rest comes from the tests - 30% for the highest test, 20% for the middle two, and 15% for the lowest. The best bit is that the final is counted as just another test, so if its your lowest, it doesn't count for that much. The tests are very fair, but you have to know the material. There is no extra credit - Dr. Maddox wants you to EARN your grade. Honestly, I'm surprised that her rating is this low. I didn't really like Stats, but that had nothing to do with Dr. Maddox. She can seem a bit remote at times, but she's actually a very nice person and an excellent professor who really does want her students to succeed.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2381 - This class is VERY difficult, and I'm a business fellow. You either just get Stats or you don't. Dr. Maddox is friendly person, though, and if you go to ask her anything during office hours (which I HIGHLY suggest) she will do her best to help you. Avoid this course if possible, but if you can't she's not a bad professor.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:Biostats - when you take biostatistics, you are just picking between two evils. take this class, hate your life for a semester, move on.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2381 - Why on earth does this woman have such a high rating?! She's horrible! Her homework takes forever, and she has some lazy assistant grade them if you're off by ONE HUNDREDTH. I KID YOU NOT. I studied up and down for her first two tests; I'm talking 20 hours a week minimum, and I was struggling to make a C in that course. This woman is impossible if you want an A, take someone else.  - Grade In Class:DROP

Comments:STA 2381 - Maddox moves very quickly but gives very organized notes and clearly lets you know how to succeed in the class. She gives 12-13 homework quizzes to check if you did your homework, 4 tests where your best grade counts around 25% second best 20% and the lowest two 15%. Do the homework and definitely go to class because the book doesn't go well with the class so you can't really teach yourself.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2381 - She explains things really well. Really really well. I don't think any other statistics professor could be as straighforward as she is. Its a tedious class, but if students didn't do well it's probably because they didn't do the homework or study for the tests- she isn't the problem. Homework is NOT mandatory like someone else said in their review, but she does give quizzes based on the homework, though she often gives not-so-subtle hints the class before a quiz. Homework takes about an hour or less- unless you're ADD like me, then a little longer haha. The tests are a very excellent representation of what she covered in class. If its on the test, she showed you exactly how to solve the problem in class. I would recommend studying for the tests a week in advance. She tells us exactly what is expected of us to do well. She gives a good amount of partial credit; she gave me lots of partial credit even if I solved the problems totally wrong, which I appreciated if my math was right anyways. She looks at the steps individually so if you messed up on the first step, it won't mess your grade up on the third step. If you hate Calculus like I do, there's a good chance Statistics is the math for you. FYI: she is cross-listed in the Mathematics department on this website for more reviews.   - Grade In Class:A
