Comments:3311 - If at all possible, take this man. He is possibly one of the most well-read, well-spoken, intelligent, and thoughtful professors and people I have met. He will get you to where you need to be (note: I have never had him for a language class, but for culture/history/Literature classes, he is great). You can go to him, explain what your goals are for what you get out of the class, and he will find a way to include it (within reason). You do have to work hard in this class, but you are not just running a sadistic academic hamster wheel. His classes are engaging, and he knwos/cares about what he is teaching. On top of that, he cares about his students, and he will take the time to answer your questions. He is worth the work.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2301 - TAKE HIM!!!!!! He is one of the best teachers I've had. He is in tune with his students, cares about us, and has great conversations. Not only that, he is a great teacher. At first, it is a little hard to follow along, but after the first test, check the concepts, the way he teaches, etc. I would say your grades, know how he teaches, etc. Also, please do yourself a favor and try to read the texts he provides (there's a lot of reading). You are going to miss him as a teacher. I went to his office hours to understand the concepts of the class but I received so much more than that. he would give me ways to improve my study ability and to know myself more throughout my academic career. He understands limitations (such as ADHD) and makes you see it not as a limitation and more as a gift. Other than that, I would say the class taught me about real life morals and how to think in a different way even though the class is "just to teach you about Greek Lit", its way more than that.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:CLA 2301 - This man is an absolute national treasure. Take his class. He teaches very thoroughly and adds helpful context on absolutely everything the class covers. As long as you are okay with some reading, he is a great professor.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2306 - I took Heckenlively for GRK 1301 and loved his class so much that I took him for CLA 2306. I will say, this class is no easy feat! I would argue it was the most challenging class I've ever taken in my life. The readings are incredibly time consuming and deal with a lot of very complex concepts, expect 2+ hours a night on average because the pop quizzes are not just easy questions. HOWEVER, he is probably my favorite professor I've ever taken at Baylor! He is so knowledgeable and passionate about the class, and his lectures are always interesting! He also loves to meet with students, is very personable, and is super happy to answer any questions. Oftentimes, I would go to his office hours to ask for help on how to study for an exam or something, and we would just talk about life with each other. The main components of the class are 2 midterms, 2 papers, and a final. He grades the papers a little tough especially if you use passive voice a lot, and you definitely need to study a decent amount and take good notes in class. I studied A LOT for the final. I even recorded his lectures with voice memos sometimes. One thing he does is he will recycle questions from the pop quizzes and use them on the exams and 50% of the final comes from old exam questions, so definitely keep those! Overall, not an easy class at all, so if you're looking for that I wouldn't take him. However, he is an awesome professor and person, and I found the class super interesting!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Greek and Roman Mythology - This class was lots of work. I mean, roughly at least 1 1/2 hours of reading each night of various Greek texts. It is a class you have to put in the time to do well on pop quizzes and tests, but the final is a review of previous tests and some new material so it is not too hard. My strategy for this class was taking good notes and LISTENING to the important points he makes about the texts in lecture. The main ideas are key for the exams. I learned alot in this class and was happy I took it, but it may not be everyone’s cup of tea because the readings are very time consuming.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3310 - I'll be the first to admit i didnt understand much of his class due to the difficulty of his texts and reading assignments. despite that if you coast through the class like i did you would still get a high B if you take his office hours and watch youtube videos on the texts. Which i highly recommended due to his friendly aptosphere and helpful questions. I probably could've gotten in a- if i tried harder.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:2306 - Greek and Roman Mythology is NOT what you think it's going to be... If you are expecting cool stories about Greek and Roman God's think again and RUN. This class was so hard and examined only the authors and movements in mythology. Tests and Essays were unbelievable hard... Whatever you do, don't take this course if you want a decent semester.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:2301 - Dr. Heckenlively, though kind of intense, is very knowledgable and a good lecturer and instructor. Any time I needed help, he helped make time and many times I would go in before an essay was due and he would walk through my outline with me. The workload is a lot but definitely worth it if you put in the work  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3380 - You will learn a lot, but that is what is so amazing. He is really passionate and he keeps you interested. There are pop quizzes scattered throughout the semester, if you don't do the ready you probably won't do very well, and he uses those to grade your participation. Other than the quizzes you have 2 exams, a final, and 2 papers. The exams are hard-ish, know the greek terminology as well as the names of all the characters and you should be good. He is a hard grader for the papers, but otherwise very fair. I would recommend this class to anyone who needs a fine art credit, or is just interested in mythology.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Archaeology of Sicily - This is by far the most wonderful class I have taken at Baylor. Learning about the history and culture of ancient sicily is great, and Dr. Heckenlively is an excellent teacher. If you cannot take this class, then you should take Greek from him.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:3380 - Dr. Heckenlively was definitely my favorite professor this semester. You can just tell that he's intelligent and knowledgeable. His tests apply directly to the material covered in class. He just tells stories! And it's engaging and interesting. I've never felt slighted by him personally or academically. I'd take him like twenty more times if I could.  - Grade In Class:A
