Comments:BIC 1314 - Dr. Morera is clearly a passionate teacher with a lot of knowledge. However, his knowledge doesn’t really transfer into his teaching style. He would go off topic in class often, keep us overtime, return grades late, and, most of all, had favorites. I don’t know how he chooses favorites, but he does, and it is frustrating because some students need to work harder than others to receive the same grade. His BIC section this semester was very messy in terms of content, but I have to say that his tests were easy and the essay prompt he’d select would be very predictable. If you would like a BIC 1314 class to coast by in, I’d suggest taking Morera. He means well, and I can see that, but his teaching style is not particularly enjoyable or good.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:HIS 1307 - After reading the previous reviews, I can say Dr. Morera's class has gotten way better than the COVID years. Our midterm was an essay and our final was an MCQ exam, both were fairly easy and straightforward. We had weekly quizzes and a few geography quizzes, none of which were difficult. Dr. Morera does sometimes ramble on in class, but he usually backtracked and returned to the topic. In the beginning half of the semester, we had lots of class discussions, but later on he went to presenting slides. The extra credit is also very generous and does help out quit a bit. He has lots of office hours and does not assign homework. Great guy to talk to.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1350 - I was in his class for one week. He would ramble on and on about random rabbit trails and wouldn't even start presenting from the power point until 10 minutes before class ended. For some reason, he enjoyed verbally berating men in history and was very insistent that women did everything in history and had it stolen by men. It seemed like the goal of each class was to suck up to the girls and put down men in history. For the record, I am a female, but I don't appreciate the needless berating of men just because they made mistakes in history. I dropped this class because he wouldn't teach the actual material.  - Grade In Class:DROP

Comments:HIS 1305 - (I took this class in Fall 2020 online, so take this with a grain of salt) This class was a nightmare. I hate to be negative but we did not get a single piece of instructional material the entire semester; we basically taught this class to myself. The only content we got was from the textbook and there were around 150 pages of reading a week. We had easy weekly quizzes, but the kicker was the three weekly Discussion Boards. Horrible. Two very in-depth questions that required nearly essay-length responses in order to get a good grade. There were also two papers, a midterm and a final, which were very difficult since we weren't actually taught. Over the course of the semester, I had to send Dr. Morrera around 20 emails to clarify assignments, request him to post readings, etc. It was just so difficult to get a response from him for anything. If you take this class, get a partner or a group to work with because you WILL have questions and you WILL be frustrated. Take someone else if you have the chance.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:4340 - Dr. Morera is quite honestly my favorite professor at Baylor. He is super funny and makes the classroom environment super conducive to open conversation. While there may be lack of structure in the class (due to COVID setbacks typically), he will never spring any assignments or tests on the class. He really cares about his students and how much we learn! For a HIS class, he really does not assign any crazy amount of reading (it comes with the major).  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:US in Globas Perspective - Dr.Morera is one of my favorite professors so far. the content he teaches is always easy to understand and follow. I also really admire his passion for teaching and how he directly coordinates his class. The workload is very manageable in this class and if you ever take Dr. Morera you'll end up missing him after your done taking his class.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1300 - This was by far one of the least organized professors I have taken a class from. With a bit more effort, I could have gotten an A despite what happened during his class. Assignments were two to three discussion board posts per reading (we were assigned two to three readings per week). On top of that, there were quizzes over each week's readings. Exams were multiple choice, except for the midterm and final, which were both essays. My main issues with this professer were with his organization. The course was all online. He would sometimes post homework on Canvas days or weeks after the due date. The final exam, which was a 10 page long research paper, was posted THREE DAYS before the fixed due date. Based on that experience alone, I would not recommend taking Professor Morera unless you absolutely have to.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:History 1305 - There are indeed lots of readings for a 1000 level class. Dr. Morera replies fast but his explanation is not always on the point. That all being said, as long as you do some of your own research outside of class and put them into graded discussions, he will give you nice scores. He never specifies how long exam essays he expects, but I recommend writing more than 4 full pages if you want to get an A.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:HIS 1305 - He is the single worst professor I have ever experienced at Baylor. I wanted to make an account here simply to warn those who may be considering taking him more than they absolutely have to. I consider myself to be fairly smart and a good student, but I consistently found myself at a loss for words and completely confused during this man's classes. This was not because of the material at all--since they way he teaches these classes result in their barely even being able to be called "classes"--but it was simply confusion at what was required. I had a week long email conversation with him, during which I tried to get him to tell me when the midterm was due. Through his vague and unhelpful comments, I thought I was able to figure out the due date...only to end up turning it in a week early. The same thing happened throughout the semester, where he would post assignments an hour or so before they were due. He would go several weeks without posting assignments, only to post them all and make s have to do 1-3 weeks worth of assignments in one day. This class and the other I have taken with him were absolutely miserable, I learned nothing, and I hope to never cross paths with Dr. Luis Morera ever again in my time here. NEVER TAKE HIM.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1305 - I have had many bad professors in my experience here, but none have been so bad as Dr. Morera. I would email him about questions concerning quiz answers (in that there would be some that were counted wrong or there would be two Ds to choose from and only one was right per question). One time he made the quiz due a year before the class even happened. He wouldn't grade our discussions for weeks, once having gone an entire month without grading while we continually had to read the textbook and post onto the discussion board every day. He counted off points when I didn't submit two separate answers on the discussion board even though there was only one question. He taught asynchronous online, but his tests – which were essays that covered a quarter of human history each, preferably at least 8 pages – were always due at 2 pm. For his final, I had to turn around immediately from writing a rough draft for one of my other classes and word vomit as much as I could for Morera's class. He never recorded any lectures and whatever we "learned" came from our reading. He uploaded some powerpoints, but they barely had anything on them, and occasionally there was some audio but it was not very informative. On his essays, he makes you refer to his powerpoints and cite his powerpoints when you reference them. If, for any reason, you can avoid taking him, do whatever you can to avoid him. I know he's the only world history professor, but history majors, I'm warning you, take your world history credits somewhere else, just not with him. If you're in BIC and you're a history major, don't take him whatever you do. If you're not a history major and you want to take him for a class, DON'T. You will regret it. I got an A in this class and HIS 1307, but I had an easier time in Bio and statistics and I'm a history major. Do not take him  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:HIS 1300 - This man is a horrible professor. His class was completely online and he never replied to my email asking him basic questions. He is not clear and put over 90 students on a discussion board together (which is definitely not conducive to learning). I dropped this class two weeks in and after reading the posts of people who endured, it seems to be the best decision. I felt like a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders after I dropped and was actually able to enjoy my semester. DO NOT TAKE THIS MAN!!  - Grade In Class:DROP

Comments:1305 - He is honestly one of the worst History professors I have ever had. He is a horrible teacher and gave almost everyone in my class a 0 on a quiz because most of us got 100% and that was "statistically improbably" WHAT? His written exams were also extremely difficult but that is a personal opinion.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:HIS 1300 - The absolute worst professor i have ever had the misfortune of having. He messes everything up from the syllabus to the quizzes. He has questions to the quizzes that we haven’t covered yet. I did this online and we only have readings to do. We have work due everyday. He does not respond to emails in a timely manner if he does at all. DO NOT TAKE HIM AS YOUR PROFESSOR!! He changed the readings of the class 2 days before the start of semester to a race and relations book, which is fine in itself. However, this class became a sociology/race relations class, when it is a US and Global Perspective class. The tests are needlessly difficult. He is honestly the worst professor i have ever had, many of my classmates have debated multiple times on reporting him to the Dean because of how bad this man is at teaching a class.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1307 - I took him over the summer. I'm aware that summer courses are, in general, more difficult, but this man assigned us about 150 pages a week with no lectures. He messed up the syllabus several times, and once he posted the wrong questions in the wrong discussion. He grades discussions very harshly but I did very well on my tests, so I don't really know how that happened. He never responds to emails in a timely manner. His tests are all essays, and he expects 8-12 pages, and he doesn't grade anything in a timely manner. It's all about the reading.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:HIS 1305 - Dr. Morera has by far been one of my favorite professors while here at baylor. History hasn't ever really been a fun class for me but he deftly chawed that. He makes history fun with his unique and engaging ways of teaching and he is super witty/funny so it lightens the classroom mood. If you ever need help with the class he is always helpful and responds to emails super fast. any history class will be a lot of work but he makes sure it's not just busy work. he teaches everything that you will need to know for the test. deftly recommend taking his class.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1305 - DO NOT take this class unless you absolutely have to. I saw these reviews and thought “oh it won’t be that bad” I was wrong. Instead of saying how terrible the class is I’ll tell y’all our classes specific averages for discussions and RQ’s. RQ’s make-up 20% of our final grade. Quizzes (which actually are easy) are 20%, midterm 30% and final 30%. First RQ’s mean was 49.8 and our second mean was 49… insane. Then we went to the class being online and the workload is crazy. I have to do at least 2 hours of history every day and I’m still behind and our online discussion means are 74.1, 64.1, 69.7, and 66.1. Which are higher than before… but still. He grades us so hard. I got an A on the midterm (average was a 71), but I cannot seem to figure out how to do well on the discussions. After getting my first RQ grade back I asked him what I could have done better, and the reason I didn’t get an A was the way I worded it… I had the right answer just written different than what he wanted. Definitely the worst class since I’ve been at Baylor.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1305 - WORST PROF EVER. DOES NOT CARE ABOUT HIS STUDENTS. ONLY PROF I KNOW TO ASSIGN A 100 TIMES MORE INTENSE WORK LOAD ON LINE!!! ASSIGNEMENTS DUE EVERYDAY EVEN NONCLASS DAYS. HE WENT FROM A WEEKLY QUIZ AND WEEKLY ASSIGNMENT TO AT LEAST TWO POST MON WEDS FRI AND THREE POST TUES AND THURS. HE RUINED HISTORY FOR ME! NEVER BEEN TALKED TO BY HIM WITH RESPECT.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1305 - This guys is terrible. I am leaving this review during the COVID-19 pandemic where we are all quarantined and have to work online. He's taken this pandemic as a great way to assign us an insane workload as if we don't have other things going on. Additionally he does not treat this course as an 1000 level course, he treats it as if we are all history majors and our main focus is his class. Personally, this is the last class I want to be focusing on right now but because of all the work I'm spending so much time on it. Also, his tech skills are awful. He deleted some of our work from earlier this week and now my grades are marked missing. I would be more graceful because of the pandemic however it's incredible to me how much extra work he has assigned simply because we are not going to lectures anymore. The exam we had a couple weeks ago was formatted so awfully that it didn't allow me to showcase my knowledge what so ever. It was completely fill in the blank. And it was hard to even know what he was asking sometimes. He expects you to read his mind. It's extremely frustrating. He's also a complete wierdo and brings up title 9 at least once a week in the most random times. He also picks favorites and says their names in a Spanish accent. Stay away from him at all costs I'm begging you.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:1305 - Professor Morera is the worst professor I have taken at Baylor, and I have had many. I do not understand how anyone could enjoy him, except that he plays favorites like a high school teacher and probably wrote some of these all of the sudden glowing reviews himself. Just compare them to semesters past, notice how bitter he was about these. His teaching is disorganized, and his expectations are never clearly explained. No one knows what is expected of them, maps are sent out the night before sometimes to be added to the quiz the next morning, the syllabus does not align with the module we are set to follow. It took him 8+ weeks to grade the midterm. At first I liked him and thought his sense of humor was great, until I realized its just his overinflated ego. Seriously take anyone else. Its not even that the course load is a lot because I am in far harder courses than this mess, and have made A’s. Out of every professor I have had he is truly the worst by far. I do not understand how he is a professor at Baylor. He does not care about your success at all.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1305 - HERE’S THE TEA- by far, one of the most challenging courses I’ve taken here at Baylor. I put in at LEAST 6 hours of work into this class EVERY week. You HAVE to do the RQs well in order to be successful in the class because these questions are basically the foundation to the mid term and final. You must go into Dr. Morera’s office hours if you have questions or else you will be hopelessly confused for class. Do every and all extra credit he gives you. I studied about 8 hours for the mid term and final and ended up with an A. Also, don’t bomb the map quizzes. You can definitely get an A in this class- stay on his good side and work VERY hard.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1305 - This was an odd class. Some days he would lecture from the powerpoint, other days we would spend the whole class talking about weird marital traditions in ancient China. As the semester wraps up, I can't say I feel confident that I learned anything significant or new from this class. The only two tests are the midterm and final, which was unhelpful because it is so much information on those tests with nothing in between the tests to help retain information. The midterm was difficult after studying well in advance for a long time for it. It was the strangest test I've taken, with subquestions that aren't clearly marked as subquestions so you're left wondering what is being asked, and typos in the questions. Dr. Morera is a really nice and funny dude, I really enjoyed his sense of humor and quirky manner. Sometimes he'd forget when he told us about things, and then give a quiz on the wrong day or not at all. It's been exactly 5 weeks since I took the midterm and it still hasn't been graded so I have no idea what my grade is going to look like. It's a weird class. If you're particularly passionate about history and are willing to do a lot of learning and making connections on your own outside of class, then take this class. If you want to get a history credit and have someone directly feed you the information, I wouldn't recommend the class. But he's a nice, funny, and chill guy who loves history. With a ton of studying for the two tests, an A is very possible (I'm putting a B+ in anticipation that if/when my midterm is grade my grade will lower) ...  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:HIS 1305 - Dr. Morera was a phenomenal professor. One of the best I have had. Dr. Morera is a fantastic teacher who truly cares about his student's success. He is always open to suggestions about his teaching, class, or assignments and works hard to implement them into his lectures/classwork. His workload is greater than some teachers but if you put effort into the reading questions you will see the return on the midterm and final. He offers a great amount of extra credit (a full letter grade) on the exams as well as a generous curve. Overall I would highly reccomend Dr. Morera. He is invested in his students and wants to help you succeed.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:HIS 1305 - Dr. Morera is one of my most favorite professors I have ever taken during my time at Baylor! Yes, Dr. Morera's class isn't simply memorizing dates and you will have to put in a decent amount of work to do well. However, it's also worth noting that Dr. Morera's class will help you develop so many critical skills that will be useful down the line in your college career. Dr. Morera is incredibly intelligent, kind, and willing to help. The stories he tells in class are always so cool and he always finds a way to bring his students into the lectures because he knows all of his students by name and truly cares about each and every one of them. If you need help, he responds to emails lighting fast and is always willing to meet and help with anything. He's also the most hilarious man and his sense of humor is truly iconic. When he would crack jokes during lectures and half of the class didn't pick up on his jokes, those were probably the best jokes of them all. Anyone who complains about the workload of his class simply isn't willing to put in the work required to do well. I promise if you put in the effort by doing the readings, always having your response questions done, and studying for the tests and map quizzes thoroughly, you will gain so much from this class and walk away with fantastic critical thinking skills, as well as historical empathy. I took this class last spring and I often reminisce about how much I miss Dr. Morera. He is truly one of those professors that students can only hope to have once in their lives. Take him, you won't regret it!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1305 - I am really not sure why people are complaining so much about Dr.Morera. He is so nice and really wants everyone to succeed in his course. I don't think it should be a surprise that there is reading in a college history class?? He has always been helpful and gives great feedback, and answers emails very promptly. I would suggest taking his class  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:4327 - Dr. Morera is a very knowledgable professor. This class is discussion based and is very organized in the structure of the class. The assigned readings are very helpful and If you do the RQs it will help you succeed in the course. Absolutely loved this course and would take it all over again if I could. He is very helpful in and out of the classroom with choosing your topic and making sure there is enough material out there on your topic for your annotated bibliography. Highly recommend to anyone who is interested in the High Middle Ages.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Hist 1305 - This email he sent out needs to be addressed. Not only was it immature and something a high schooler would do, but also will hurt us in the grading process. There are some ungraded assignments and knowing the pettiness of Morera and how he responds to constructive criticism, he will intentionally give us all low grades to hurt us for writing out thoughts. It makes me disappointed that students write their thoughts but he can't take constructive criticism even though that's all he gives.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:History 1305 - Dr. Morera is extremely intelligent & is very passionate in what he teaches. He helps students & will review all the papers etc. if you bring them to him ahead of time. He made learning about the pre 1500s fun & entertaining, which is hard to do for a student that is not a big fan of history. The midterm was a lot of preparation but if you study & review his material you will do fine. I got an 84% after the curve, and he curved it immensely which was incredibly kind because most teachers do not have a curve of 10 or more points like Dr. Morera. Yes there is a lot of work in the class but we are going to school at Baylor University so the expectation of classes being hard should be considered. The grade you receive is directly from the work you put in this class. To the students that are being sour towards this class and Dr. Morera are the ones that are unhappy with what their work reflects on their grade. My mom was getting surgery & I really wanted to be home for that so I went in & ask Dr. Morera if I can take the final early. He was super understanding & caring & worked with my schedule in order for me to get home early. If you want to learn a lot of pre 1500s in a way that is engaging, and want a professor that truly knows the material & cares for his students then take this class.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:History 1305 - For a thorough and well-rounded understanding of class with Dr. Morera: Dr. Morera truly cares about his students, he cares about history, and he believes in growing his students to become better at what they do. I took Dr. Morera during the fall of my freshman year, and I highly recommend taking this course during the same time as Christian Scriptures. (Kind of a side note, but it was a neat and unexpected experience to learn about secular history and history surrounding the Bible in depth, as they wove together). As a professor, Dr. Morera is an invested communicator who teaches with jokes and interesting material. While he was a thorough grader, Dr. Morera’s heart toward his students is far from malicious. Many of the negative comments on this page stem from frustration over homework that required at times tedious attention, but they were not unbearable. In the homework that he gave, Dr. Morera’s goal was not to make his students’ lives difficult or prove to them their imperfections. He is an avid thinker who has received an excellent education, and wants to pass this on to his students. While his wife prepared for and underwent surgery at the end of my semester with him, Dr. Morera provided an alternate final that would take more time for him to grade than the original final would. He did not skimp on an opportunity to challenge us in our final, knowing that it would bring a burden to his holiday season. At the same time, Dr. Morera realized a large amount of negative and attacking comments on this site, and can view them still. Yet he is currently grading the essays that we wrote, knowing what was unfairly claimed about him. He is a good teacher with a good heart. Please view him with your discernment as you view these comments, and your grace.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1305 - There are very few traits I could name that would consider this professor worth taking, let alone being hired. This professor had the audacity to look through the BU books ratings and send out a class email about how his feelings were hurt and how he's going to punish the future classes, who had nothing to do with what happened. From the light hearted man I saw in class, he came completely out of character by sending out that email. The statements he made within his email were illogical and borderline atrocious in regards to the student-professor relationship. He showed a complete lack of respect for those who signed up to take his class. Yes, he is well educated and can teach a class, should he teach a class at Baylor? Absolutely not because here at Baylor we treat our student body with respect and do not dignify those who slander others. In this case, an employee at Baylor who is paid by our university to whom we as a student body pay tuition is lashing out at us like a child because of a few bad comments. Here's a newsflash, you do not have the worst rating here on BU books, however you do have the worst tolerance for any sort of criticism which shows a lack of character, something Baylor University and every educational institution should and does take seriously. Your complete lack of emotional maturity shows instability and regardless of what is going on in your personal life you are required to do your job to the best of your ability. There are dozens of better history professors across the nation, probably even MCC, that can teach and take criticism better than you. I hope this steers any new student away from your classroom because at Baylor we pray that our student's look forward to attending classes and the hostile environment you have created by sending that email is concerning.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:HIS 1305 - Seriously the petty student ratings on here are beyond the conduct and professionalism that a Baylor student should be holding. Dr. Morera is a wonderful teacher. History is boring, and when you have to cover such a large span of time, he makes it as interesting as possible. He has a quirky sense of humor and loves to engage with the students. Students that complain about the course load need to have a reality check! I have taken MUCH harder classes here. When they complain about reading the material HELLO how else are you going to learn it. He only has two tests, a midterm and a final and guess what...IF YOU ACTUALLY LOOK AT THE POWERPOINT ALL THE ANSWERS ARE BOLD AND IN RED. People complain about the "RQs" he had us, to which he only graded four of them. They were response questions that made sure you did the readings. Guess what? MOST TEACHERS require you to do the readings and have daily or weekly quizzes! I bet the ones complaining would have a lot lower grade had they taken another prof! As for the paper we had to write...he gave us the ENTIRE SEMESTER TO WRITE IT! If you are a procrastinator, then that is YOUR problem! It was an EASY PAPER TO WRITE! Also, so on the midterm, I got an 83. He felt so bad for students scoring so low, that he curved it up 10 points...THEN students STILL complained so he curved it up ANOTHER 10 points!!! You have a geography quiz that is fill in the blank every friday, but he gives you the maps to study so if you actually look at them more than 15 minutes before class you will do fine! Again EASY POINTS that students are complaining about! I put that I got a B+ on here, but I will likely get an A. Everyone is posting what grade we received but grades aren't even due for four days! Oh and by the way he gave us two extra credit opportunities that you could do (like watch a movie and write an analysis)...and if you did it more than the night before, he was happy to look at it so that you would make max points. Affluenza seems to be running rampant through many of the students in his class this semester!  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:HIS. 1305 - I would like to say first and foremost, I am not a history major and a senior taking this course late. That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed Dr. Morera's class. He is an incredible teacher that is very engaging, enthusiastic about the material he is teaching, as well as extremely understanding and caring about his students. I have never left a rating before but after seeing the negativity of a few others in the class regarding completely false statements that couldn't be farther from the truth I felt like I needed to in order to clarify for anyone looking into taking one of his courses. There are two exams, a midterm and a final so you will need to study for those... surprise welcome to college. The course work is about average in comparison for other history courses I have taken. There are geography quizzes every Friday over maps that are assigned from class in correlation to the material. These are usually easy As if you study for about half an hour, which is great for a grade booster. There are also Writing Exercises and Responses Questions he does for homework grades. The response questions are fairly straight forward and easy especially since he explains how he wants them structured. He does expect you to understand what you are writing about so will give you feedback accordingly but not once throughout the entire semester did I receive any negative or belittling feedback from him. Instead he takes the time to respond to (I'm sure every students) answers in order to offer you helpful tips and advice for future assignments. He has no requirement to do this but because he wants to see his students excel in the class and learn from the mistakes you made he offers that service along with office hours which he is extremely helpful. I had a rough semester with sickness and other unexpected events so since I am a senior was worried about Dr. Morera working with me. I was blown away by the help and understanding mindset he had for me (better than 90% of the professors in my own department). The HW and Exams obviously suck because no one enjoys either but if you put in the work and study/do your homework there is absolutely no reason why you can't flourish in his class. I highly recommend Dr. Morera and to the negative comments directed toward him in the reviews, I am sure that person doesn't like his own grandmother either. 10/10 highly recommend for future students.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:HIS 1305 - To preface, I am usually an A student and I also really dislike history in general. I did find this class challenging and there is a lot of reading and a lot of work involved (especially for a 1000 level course that is mostly taken as a gen-ed fulfillment). However, Morera is very well-educated in history and his sense of humor is very dry and sarcastic (and kind of nerdy, in the best way), which makes class interesting. I have no issue with harder classes or doing a lot of work, but I would say it was a lot for an intro course -- however, this doesn't make Morera awful or a bad professor. In fact, I know he was very helpful to anyone who asked, so I do wish I had asked more questions, because I probably would have done better in the class. I do feel like I learned a lot, although it doesn't really show in some of my grades, but again, that's totally on me. Pros: good and detailed feedback, cancelled classes (!), really knows and cares about history, sarcasm. Cons: lots of reading and work for a 1000 course, the kinda cringe-y email we all got today from him (you can read about it in some of the reviews below... it just made me uncomfortable because looking here for compliments or positive feedback is like looking at YouTube comments for a self-esteem boost, ya know? and the fact that all his 1305 classes got rebuked because a handful of people wrote mean-spirited things is kinda not cool or professional).  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:HIS 1305 - Disregard the negative comments regarding Dr. Morera. What people call ego is really just his sense of humor, and while it may not appeal to all students, it does little to distract from his obvious passion for the subject and his desire for us all to succeed in his class. I will admit that he goes off-topic occasionally during his lectures, but if a student is so reliant upon his lectures, I would suggest that they do the readings, as they cover everything on the powerpoints. He is usually available to meet with, and if you choose to attend his office hours, he is extremely helpful. I took a draft of my essay to his office hours and he read the entire thing and gave me suggestions on it and pointed out what he liked. All you have to do is show up for 15 minutes on your free time, and you basically guarantee yourself a good grade on the essay. The tests are truly a measure of how prepared you are. You have to study for it, just like for any other test in the history department here. His tests are standard, and contain an identification essay and some fill in the blank short answers. His final for us this semester is actually a take-home essay, but only because his wife had a sudden change in her surgery schedule and he couldn't be here the day of the test. His wife's condition was also the reason that he took so long grading our other assignments. The fact that some people are so insensitive that they fail to realize that Dr. Morera's priorities lie with his wife rather than grading is both shocking and disappointing. If you are student searching for a HIS 1305 class, I would recommend Morera. His workload is fairly standard for an entry-level history class at Baylor. The majority of his "essay" assignments (there are 4 of them over the semester) are extremely easy, and rather than testing your writing abilities, he gives you prompts to work on your essay formatting skills. For example, an assignment will teach you how to select passages from a primary source to use in an actual essay. His final essay is 6 pages, which is not long for a history essay. He puts emphasis into your writing ability because history is a study focused around writing. His comments are not belittling, and serve to do nothing but offer advice on your work. Your work will always have room for improvement, so please don't expect to get 100's on every Reading Question or essay. I enjoyed Dr. Morera's class and would recommend him, but not to people who don't know how to laugh or treat professors like humans.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:World History 1305 - Ignore all of the entitled and negative comments that you see about Morera. He values hard work, passion, and a hunger for intellectual growth. His history class is one of the first 1000 level classes at Baylor that has kindled my mind. He makes class fun and interesting. He gives incredible constructive feedback about your writing, and your ability to analyze data and connect it back to big ideas, which are all skills we need in every subject area. He gives you multiple extra credit opportunities, takes away your bad quiz grades, and he has a midterm and a final. His wife has had back surgery multiple times this semester and he STILL grades all of our work and is still accessible even though he is going through this. When I had to go visit a family member that is sick with stage 4 cancer he let me take a quiz early that I would be missing while I was gone. He is caring, understanding, and he loves to see his students grow. The students that aren't happy with him or with their grades seem to forget about the work that you need to earn a degree. This class and this professor stimulates your intellect. I guess some of my classmates are angry that they had someone ask for more than the bare minimum from them. Sorry sweethearts, if you're looking for an easy ride through university then transfer from Baylor. People shouldn't blame their lack of focus and effort on a professor. I highly recommend this class and this professor.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:World History 1305 - I felt that, for myself, Professor Morera is an incredibly entertaining teacher who wishes for nothing but the success of his students. While yes sometimes the workload could be appear to be quite a bit, it was still manageable. We are in college and as such it's important for us to realize that our success doesn't just rely on our teacher but also ourselves. I am sad to see some of the comments that are on here but I want to emphasize that I think professor Morera was a great teacher who was both funny and eager to teach. The map quizzes at times could be a little difficult to manage, especially when there were 3 in one day, but even then most of the quizzes were pretty easy. I enjoyed the class and really hope that others enjoy it as well. I would definitely recommend him if you are willing to work hard and are able to take constructive criticism.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1305 - Morera is extremely condescending to his students. He honestly acts like a child, it’s embarrassing to watch. If one student tries to offer constructive criticism to help improve the class he calls out the entire class and whines about how no one is appreciative of him. He sent us an email claiming that we “broke the honor code” for leaving bad reviews, but honestly every single person I have talked to who took him either dropped or did not enjoy their time in his class. He puts so much weight in writing in the class and does not even seem to care about teaching us real history. Maybe he would do better as an English professor since he emailed us saying "Students can learn how to write--or not--elsewhere. (I will likely also do away with the extra credit opportunities, since the mere act of providing feedback is seen as negative commentary on one's character or belief system, and not a kind gesture on my part to share my two decades of experience for how best to convey information to an audience.)” Rudest and worst professor I have had at Baylor so far, and I have been here three years.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1305 - Here is an email he sent us after receiving 2-3 bad reviews on this site which explain the good reviews since then: "It has been drawn to my attention that number of students have posted seriously petty and vindictive reviews on BU Books this semester. After perusing them, I have received message loud and clear. Many want the prestige of a degree from an Ivy League, without the workload or scrutiny of one. So fine, starting next semester I'll be scrapping the entire set of writing exercises and the argumentative paper on _The Epic of Gilamesh_ (clearly mentioned in the syllabus, though, granted, it would take the effort of turning all the way to the second page to see it listed). Students can learn how to write--or not--elsewhere. (I will likely also do away with the extra credit opportunities, since the mere act of providing feedback is seen as negative commentary on one's character or belief system, and not a kind gesture on my part to share my two decades of experience for how best to convey information to an audience.) Mind you, I have certainly received negative reviews before--all profs have--but never quite with such emotionally charged complaints, based on half truths, and in a tone so clearly against both the syllabus and the the Baylor's Student Code of Conduct. Indeed, it truly saddens me that comments on BU Books have fallen from their previous status of customer satisfaction surveys, to outright internet trolling. But why not? I'm sure the whole Christian ethos of compassion and "love thy neighbor" (Mark: 12:31) doesn't apply on the internet, particularly when posted anonymously." While normally I wouldnt post anything... ya boi played himself and gave me some material to post.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1305 - I struggle bad with learning history, I always have. However, he was the second best history teacher I have ever had. He kept it enjoyable and entertaining. He was always making people laugh. His explanations were always easy to remember because he made them so funny. More importantly, he was always ready to answer questions, and help me catch up. He has been very kind, understanding, and patient with me. Although the work load is fairly heavy, I enjoyed having him as a professor. Because of the grade I will most likely be receiving, I could easily bash his teaching skills and blame that... BUT that frankly just is NOT the case. He is obviously a great professor and thoroughly enjoys his job. I never dreaded class... unless there was a quiz i forgot about hah! As long as you stay on top of your stuff for this class, it will be great.  - Grade In Class:D

Comments:HIS 1305 - Looking at the comments on this page is so disheartening to me because I thought that Dr. Morera was a great professor who obviously had a wide range of knowledge about history. Yes, he would sometimes stray from the powerpoints, but that's where all of the fun, interesting information is that truly made his class so enjoyable! His witty sense of humor was one of the main reasons I was engaged in the class and he never failed to include every student in discussion. The workload isn't bad, just pretty short readings before every class and written responses to them that you usually don't even turn in (but turn out to be very helpful for the midterm). There were geography quizzes every week that were generally pretty easy and overall a grade booster. He also always responded to emails very promptly and nicely and any time I stayed after class to ask for help he always sat down and really gave good insight into what I could improve about a paper or assignment. Overall, he's a really funny, experienced professor who knows what he's doing and truly cares about his students success.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1305 - Prof Morera is a really caring and friendly professor. I went to his office hours and emailed him quite frequently and he always responded very promptly. Overall, his class is very interesting and I felt like the workload was not that heavy. As long as you stay on top of the RQs, his exams pretty much come straight from his powerpoints that he posts on canvas.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1305 - Best History Professor! I usually don’t write reviews on here but I felt it necessary to do so. He is my favorite professor at Baylor so far and he is downright hilarious. I was laughing all the time in his class. He keeps your attention while covering a lot of material. His examples really help you understand the material. I've never been one to love history class but I thoroughly enjoyed his class throughout the whole semester. There are weekly quizzes, which are very easy. It does not take much to memorize the maps. I passed those with flying colors. There are 4 RQ’s which he ended up getting us to submit when he cancelled class. Not hard at all, just do the reading and you will be fine. There were 4 writing assignments. Those I found very helpful because each one helped prepare me on how to write the final paper. I never personally used the format that he assigned for the final paper so the writing exercises helped me learn the formatting. Also, there is a midterm and a final. If you study and use his powerpoint as a guide you will do good. It is very manageable. He gives multiple extra credit opportunities. If you keep up with the reading you will do very well in his class. His enthusiasm and love for history shined through in his teaching. He is a very funny, nice, and caring professor. He cares for his students and wants them to succeed. His class was one that I actually wanted to go to every day. That being so I decided to take him for one of his survey classes. He has been very kind and helpful throughout the whole semester. He gives constructive feedback that has personally helped me improve not only in his class but also in my writing skills. When emailing him he responds in a timely manner. He is willing to help you. You can show him your rough draft and will go over it with you before you submit your final paper. Needless to say he’s a great professor and I recommend taking him.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1305 - Morera sets his expectations at excellence but simultaneously provides the necessary support and encouragement. He always makes himself available via emails and office hours. His assignments are given not to burden students but with the purpose to develop them. The goal of his assignments are to stretch you and deepen your knowledge but also be an aid in studying for the exams. The RQs and Writing Exercises ended up being my biggest aids on the exams and the final essay. Most importantly, I was able to further develop my writing and research skills. This professor teaches a true Baylor course where you earn your grade and learn a wide variety of material.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1305 - The latest reviews on Prof. Morera are so disheartening and completely wrong. Morera is one of the most nicest, caring, and helpful professors I have ever met. Every time I emailed him with a question, or wanted to stop by his office hours, he was always extremely helpful and kind. If you bring him your rough draft for your paper, or have questions on the homework, he will go the extra mile to help you and provide constructive feedback. Every time you turn something in on canvas, he will also add in feedback comments. Some students have obviously had their feelings hurt about this, but what they don't realize is that Prof. Morera is taking a lot of time out of his life to really read through everyone's essays and homeworks and is trying to help them improve. He is not rude nor condescending (like other reviews have suggested). He truly cares for his students, I can promise you that! If you go into his office hours, he not only will he be there to help you in any way (or for however long it may take) but he will want to get to know you! Most professors don't care about your life and only want you in their office for the absolutely minimum amount of time possible, but Morera is definitely different than other professors! As far as the workload for the class, it is somewhat heavy, but manageable. Prof. Morera wants us to learn and become better writers and analyzers of history! The course requirements were clearly stated in the syllabus for this fall semester, which were daily homework readings, a few "mini projects" (to prepare you for writing your final paper), a 4-6 page essay on "The Epic of Gilgamesh" (not a hard read, and only approx. 100 pages), and midterm, a final, and optional extra credit opportunities. I have learned a great deal from this course, and not just about history! I have become a better writer, studier, and time manager. I really enjoyed Prof. Morera this semester. His wit, passion for history, and extreme care for his students made this class really special!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1305 - Morera is the single most egotistical teacher I have ever had. He turned an entry level history course(that mostly non majors take) into a course that has a work load similar to a grad school class. He is incredibly belittling towards students if they say something wrong in class and he also leaves rude and sarcastic comments on assignments in canvas. He lectures from slides that are on canvas, but mostly just rambles on and makes connections that have nothing to due with the material. He doesn't emphasize the importance of anything that will be on the midterm or final. Also be prepared to write a paper on a book that is not assigned to read in the syllabus and is not conducive to any material in the class. He barely goes over the guidelines for any assignments and also claims to have a two week turnaround on grading. Today is the 7th of December and I have an assignment that was due the 27th of October that has not been graded yet. I will never recommenced this professor to anyone. It's a shame he is allowed to teach at this university. I really hope you read this Morera and fix what you present yourself and teach your class.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:His 1305 - Very disappointed in Baylor for keeping Morera around. I have talked to many students around me that feel the same way as I do, and Baylor has not done anything to fix this. Morera is condescending and if you ask him for help he makes you feel stupid. He says to allow a two week turn-around period for grading but I had assignments that were not graded for months. He is really disrespectful and I am disappointed that he is still able to teach at a good university.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:History 1305 - Save yourself and do not take this class. I have had bad professors, but the fact that this teacher is able to teach at a top tier university is beyond me. He is degrading, has his own opinions about everything and if you do not agree with his beliefs he will mark you down. I tried extremely hard in this class, harder than in any other class, and I still received a bad grade. I learned nothing in this class and wasted so much time doing busy work.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:HIS 1305 - Dr Morera is extremely helpful, nice, and goofy - he made learning about random cultures and peoples very interesting because of how much he loves it. However, do not take his class if you are not prepared for loads of reading and homework. His map quizzes are extremely easy and straightforward, and as long as you put in the effort all of the homework and RQ's are very doable. His midterm was extremely hard, I studied for 2 weeks in advance and barely passed, then again I may not have grasped history as much as someone else might. He was always very willing to help and so friendly, also cancels class a lot.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1305 - Dr. Morera is a HUGE history nerd, which often make his lectures hilarious and sometimes agonizing due to the amount of tangents and jokes that he makes. This course requires lots of time and effort to succeed in. Weekly geography quizes, daily reading assignments, and difficult tests. However, don't let this discourage you. He does exam preps that will save your life if you take them seriously and do the work. Overall very good and easy prof to take. I sat through most of his lectures on my phone and only did a handful of reading and i made an A. Long story short: Great guy, great prof, lots of reading.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:HIS - Such a nice guy! I joined almost 2 weeks late. He told me I had a lot to make up, but he helped along the way. He sincerely thanked me at the end of the semester for my work. He gives weekly map quizzes, but they are EASY. Just fill in the blank on maybe 5-10 countries or regions. Ask questions and stay engaged. He really cares about history and that is what makes his class great  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1305-Online - Dr. Morera was a great teacher to have for HIS 1305. He was very helpful, knowledgeable, and engaging given it was an online class. For me, this was the first online class I had taken so I was previously nervous about the workload. However, I thought the course went along well even with retaining an internship. There were weekly quizzes, daily posts or response questions, a midterm, and a final. Readings were about 20-30 pages in length per day, which was very manageable. Would 100% take his course again.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:History - I took Dr. Morera a couple years ago for a history elective for my BBA curriculum. After completing my degree at Baylor, I felt it necessary to leave a review for my absolute favorite teacher on campus. Dr. Morera teaches with so much passion you cannot help but be interested in the subject matter, if solely only because his interest in it is so radiant. On top of that, the assignments are not over the top and the tests are graded very fairly. You will do well in this course if you care even a little, and will excel if you also enjoy history. In short, you'd be mistaken to take any other history professor if you can help it. And personally I think his < 70 rating is a joke that shows most students, like myself, that enjoyed his class didn't think to write a review for it.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:History from 1500 - I took Morera's "History to 1500" and it was so good I changed my major to History. I have had him for a lecturer in two courses and both were eye-opening, deeply immersive, and interesting to learn about. Morera is extremely capable of offering help when you need it and is a very understanding person. He clearly puts the importance of his students' understanding of history before anyone else, and always effectively teaches the material. The workload is fine as its simply reading assignments he occasionally picks up a review for. Bottom line: Go for the immersive lectures and direct teacher-student communication, stay for the witty sarcasm and corny jokes.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1305 - ONLINE - I took this as an online class for the summer, so I never met or even saw Dr. Morera, but he did give us a lot of feedback and was very responsive with email. He seemed like a super nice guy. For the class we had to post an online discussion everyday over the reading, it took approximately 1-2 hours all together per day, and then we had a midterm essay and a final exam essay. I honestly enjoyed this class and if you need to be elsewhere during the summer I would recommend the online option.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:HIS1305 - When I saw that Professor Morera had such a low rating I had to interject. History is not my strong suit and for this class I just did what I had to do to get by, but I still ended up with an A. Morera is kind and funny. The lectures feel long and boring, but thats also because I don't particularly like history. He is reasonable with assignments and outlines exactly what he expects, so you aren't blind sided. He really cares about his students and makes sure you understand the material. For the test, he gives you 12 topics to know information about and he picks 3 of them for the test which you choose 2 to write about. He workshops some of the topics in class and he's always happy to help you with anything in his office hours. You also have two papers. The first is over the Epic of Gilgamesh which he discusses in class and helps you to understand exactly what he is looking for. I didn't read the book, but I still got an A on the paper. The second paper is over a topic in the book. He also gives opportunities for extra credit. There are map quizzes every friday, but they are not hard. In addition, there are reading questions due every day, but they do not take long to do and if you don't do them before class he usually allows you to email it to him before the end of the day. I highly recommend Morera. He is kind, reasonable, and really loves history and his students. The class is not difficult if you do the work which is in no way excessive.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1305 - I do not normally review professors but when I saw how low Professor Morera's score was I had to interject. He is easily in the top 5 most engaging professors I've had at Baylor. I had him the last semester of my senior year and he made the class so worth going to. The work is easy and worthwhile. People who tell you that you have to write 12 full papers to prepare for the test are overworking themselves. All you need to do to prepare for his test is take the list of subjects on the study guide and outline a few good points under who, what, where, when, and why. He even lets you make a bulleted list on the test instead of making you write actual essays. He also has ample extra credit opportunities. Bottom line is the dude's dope.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1305 - LISTEN CAREFULLY!!!! There are good and very bad things about this professor. Some of the good things: he is funny and engaging in class, very sweet and helpful. He really cares about his students outside lives and will show it very clearly. The only work outside of class will be reading questions and studying for map quizzes(there is one every friday). The BAD: you don't know when he is going to take them up and there are assigned ones for everyday. He expects reading questions, essays, papers, extra credit, and ID's(on exams) to be "microlevel"(his words) in detail. He wants you to VERY SERIOUSLY analyze EVERYTHING. None of his required work can be answered simply. On map quizzes you have to memorize every city/rive/lake/landmark/ocean/gulf/country/etc on each of the maps because you dont know what he is going to quiz you on. HIS EXAMS: He has two exams- a midterm and a final. THE MIDTERM: you have 50 minutes to write 2 essays, no notes, he will give you a review that has 12 concepts and you must answer the who/what/when/where/why on each and from those 12 he will pick 3 for the exam(he doesnt tell you which) and you have to pick two of the three and write 2 pages on each. You must do this from memory. THE FINAL: the final is the same as the midterm but he also ADDS 4 essay prompts to the test review, from those 4 he will put 2 on the exam(you wont know which) and you must answer one of the two in 3-4 pages. STUDYING FOR THE EXAMS: you have all of the test reviews at the first day in canvas and all of the powerepoints (etc), for each exam you will have to prepare by writing 2 pages for each concept and 4 pages for each essay- and then MEMORIZE THEM IN AS MUCH DETAIL. NOTE!!!!!!!!!: HIS GRADING DOESNT MAKE ANY SENSE WHATSOEVER, YOU WILL NOT KNOW WHAT YOU MADE UNTIL SCORES COME OUT. DO BOTH EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITIES! GOOD LUCK!  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:1305 - I would not recommend him, however if you do take his class, you'll be fine. It is the most work that I have ever had for a class. The exam preparation is not terrible if you study a few nights before the exam- DO NOT CRAM. He will give you a study guide with about 12 general concepts (ex: Charlemagne), but will ask you to choose 2 of 3 that he chooses on exam day. From there you are to answer the 5 W's about the concept and if you want an A, each concept should cover 1-2 pages. So essentially what I am telling you is that in order to do well, you will prepare 12, 2 page essays to prepare. The same goes for his final, except in addition to that, you have to prepare 4 true essays where ultimately you will write a 3-4 page paper in a bluebook where you choose 1 of the 2 prompts he selects that day. He is an extremely difficult grader and will only give you an A if it is clear that you understand concepts in depth and at length. He is huge about thoroughness and writing a lot of information, so if you don't do that, you will never make an A. An A is definitely not impossible, but prepare to work harder than ever for it.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:3 different courses - Morera is my favorite professor that I\'ve had in college. I took his World History to 1500 course last year and liked it so much I have now taken two of his special topics courses. In the basic class the workload was about average. We had weekly quizzes that were easy if you read the textbook, mostly they were geographic map quizzes. His exams are all in a bluebook. For the 1300 level course there were identifications in which you explain a term for about a page and why it is significant (he explains it very clear in class) and there is an essay or two. He grades tougher than most, but If you take good notes and study you should be able to make an A. His special topics courses are the greatest thing you could do with your time if you love History during the Medieval and Renaissance periods. The courses are discussion based and are surrounded around article reviews. You learn how to break down a scholarly article and review them and critique them. You will learn more than you ever dreamed and the information is very interesting. I am not a history major and you don\'t have to be one in order to succeed in the 1300 level or 4000 level courses. He is funny and way overqualified for his 1300 level classes, but not in a bad way. He is able to draw to other sources in history to help the student better get an understand of the scope of the topics. HIGHLY recommend to anyone who likes history and is willing to put in a decent amount of work. Don\'t take him if you want to slack off. He will work with you more than almost any professor I\'ve had, but you have to put in the effort. Take Morera! Could be the best decision you ever make  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:HIS 1305 - Dr. Morera is a wonderful guy who really knows his stuff. Can't ask much more from a history teacher that has to cover soooooo much material as he does with as much gusto and poise as he does. He's witty, approachable, and extremely understanding towards his students. Only issue I have is that his essay grading can be pretty unforgiving, but if you put forth a solid effort there's no need to worry about getting anything less than a B. Geography quizzes were not hard, just make acronyms and study memorize em minutes before you take the quiz. RQ's got pretty annoying after awhile but do them. Seriously, they'll help with your essays and your general understanding of the content  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:HIS 1305 - If you can help it, please don\'t take him. The workload was way too much, and even a senior in my class said shes never had this much work before. You have RQ\'s for every reading, which he says he will take up every once in a while but only took it up twice for our class. His tests are hard just because you have to explain a lot about things, compared to multiple choice. You have to do a Who-What-When-Where-Why format for 2 out of like 6 topics, but he gives you like 15 to study. Its a lot of material, like an unnecessary amount. Theres also the essays, which he isn\'t great at explaining. For our class he took our second essay and added it to our first essay, but not how you think. He didn\'t average the two together, nor did he add a whole new grade to boost the class average of our grade. He added up to 5 points to our first essay, which I did the night before and didn\'t do to well. So I was banking on my second one, which I did much better on. It only added 2 points to my 67 essay, making it now a 69 which did NOTHING for my average. He is really bad at lecturing, tries to be funny, and is just boring most of the time. PLEASE don\'t take him, try to find someone else who might actually be better at their job. You also have geography quizzes each week, which have nothing to do with the tests or the final, so memorize it and forget it is what I did. Made no sense, and didnt help us in the class at all.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1305 - I LOVED THIS CLASS. It made me fall in love with history all over again. His quizzes were very straight forward, and as long as you did the readings, the RQ's were easy too. The Midterm and Final are in the same format. He has a very dry humor, which I found hilarious, and he is very quick to get back to emails. Overall, I would recommend taking him for HIS 1305  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:1305 - I started out the course thinking I would seriously dislike this professor, because he seemed to have unrealistic expectations about our interest levels and the amount of time we were willing to dedicate to doing his assignments. BUT as the semester continued, his class became one of the most interesting, relaxed courses I've taken at Baylor. He is a young teacher, which I think factors into his kind and understanding demeanor; the evening before our first essay was due, he emailed our class to give us some tips, and noted that we would probably stay up working on our paper. What stuck with me was what he wrote after that statement, about how he said that not out of judgement, but out of understanding of our workload and our general interest in getting good grades. He manages his class in such a way, pushing back paper deadlines to allow sufficient time to review his comments on the previous paper. He even allowed our second paper to be a full revision of the previous paper, because he felt that our class hadn't done our best work. Overall, he's a fantastic professor. He only keeps one official office hour, but he's highly flexible about meeting outside of that hour, granted you request an appointment. Also, he teaches primarily from a slideshow, which can be incredibly boring, but make sure you listen for when he give his analysis of the situation, or makes sassy/punny comments. The analysis is essential for the exams, and the comments are surprisingly wonderful memory-aids.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:4340 - Dr. Morera has been one of my favorite professors at this university. He was always helpful in class and willing to take the time and explain anything i didn't understand (which happened to be a lot at times). there was never a dull moment in this class, he has the amazing ability to relate any tangent the class gets off on back to the course topic. The work load is almost nothing just do the reading and you'll be fine. I highly recommend his class to anyone that has the option to take him as a professor  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:4340 - Dr. Morera is an amazing teacher, I really loved his class. This has been, by far, my favorite class at Baylor and Dr. Morera one of my favorite instructors. He always finds a way to keep us engaged and interested in the topic, and has great background knowledge. He can answer any question we have. I looked forward to this class every week and would have taken it everyday if I could. Do the readings, they may be daunting, but it's worth it. The conversations in class are always entertaining, but if you don't do the readings you'll be bored. Even if you can't do the RQs, do the readings. Morera is great! TAKE HIS CLASSES!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:History - I made a B+ in his class and i'm not even mad. He had a great sense of humor everyday and his workload is reasonable. Always do the readings and study his maps and be sure to talk to him about your essays, he's more than willing to help you make it pefect. And for his exam,MAKE ALL THE ESSAYS BEFOREHAND and you'll make an A for sure. It's not a lot at all, just a little bit of effort and you'll do great.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:World History up to 1500 - DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS, seriously take anyone else. Pros: -He is willing to go over your work before you turn it in. -He teaching style is kind of likable in a dorky way. Cons: - Not willing to meet outside office hours - Has a set opinion and if he doesn't like your ideas he will slash your essay grade (so basically the safer you play it on your essay the better) - Every thing you do in this class is essay and his feedback is mostly scribbles so you have to go to his office hours to clarify everything - He basically makes you write an essay to petition for a grade change if he marked something wrong and you were right, and you likely won't be getting your points back anyway - Crazy amount of reading - You'll have response questions you have to do EVERYDAY that he will take up randomly and if you don't write like two pages of info you'll get a horrible grade and all he will write is "unpack" - You'll have geo quizzes once a week on top of the response questions This class will consume your semester! You have been warned!  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1305 - Dr. Morera is pretty much Ross Gellar. Do I need to keep saying things to make you take his course? Okay. He is hilarious. A lot of the class is spent in lecture, but he is so interesting to listen to - not just because he's so funny, but because his breadth of knowledge is honestly so impressive. He has interesting anecdotes about every topic. The work is not necessarily easy, but he is very clear about his expectations and makes himself available to his students. There are only two exams (a midterm and a final), both of which do require a decent amount of preparation and quite a bit of writing. However, he is more than willing to specify what information should be emphasized and will look over your sample ID's and give you feedback prior to the exam. If you like interesting, caring professors and would like to actually learn about history (and not just memorization of random dates and names with no legitimate context), you should probably take Dr. Morera.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:HIS 1305 - TAKE THIS MAN's COURSE YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT! He is a great Professor for numerous reasons but here's the shirt list 1) he gives you an exact calendar of assigned readings and assignments (there are no surprises that can hurt you!) 2) he is approachable and free to talk to after class or during office hours 3) his love for history makes the vanilla text vibrant and intriguing. Dr. Morera's class is all about three things 1) analysis of assigned readings and material 2) reflection and digestion of those materials 3) the synthesis between the cold hard facts and your perspective of the world. Your grade is governed by your performance on Response Questions(15%) Geography Quizzes (15%) two essays (20%) two exams (50%). In order to be successful on these different exercises I recommend ALWAYS reading the assigned material in advance (don't forget to take notes; these will be a savior when studying for the exams!!!) and then taking separate notes when in class (this repetitive journaling will really help u see connections that u may otherwise miss). As for the essays I found my first grade to be disappointing and so I went to talk to Dr. M about it. He pointed out my flaws and how I could improve my style and strengthen my argument. Don't expect a large number of marks on your essay, if u are truly upset or saddened with your result then it should not be that hard to go talk to the man himself. Also, know that u can show him a rough draft before the due date, which he will go over with u. The class is not difficult for those who work for what they earn, but those of you who expect something for nothing are going to be dissatisfied. I will now close with a completely subjective opinion about my experience while in this class. Learning from the texts in this class was wonderfully informative and interesting but that is not what makes this class so special. Instead it is the suggested readings outside of the curriculum that have lead to a significant amount of self realization (ask him about these sometime after class or better yet during office hours.) By recommending this information and discussing it with me Dr. Morera has made me a better man and pursuer of knowledge. What more can u ask for?  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:HIS 1305 and 1307 - I had Dr. Morera for both semesters of my freshman year and I say with conviction that he is by far, the best teacher that I have had to date. Firstly, he is very clear about all his expectations from the very beginning and there are no secrets or surprises. His syllabus is the primary method for making his expectations known and it is (once again) abundantly clear and he does everything in his power to stick to it. Secondly, his in-class experience is one of a kind. Yes, he has classes that are primarily lecture-centered, however these are fairly rare on the schedule in comparison to discussion based learning. There is a considerable amount of reading for the class as a result of this, but only in preparation for class time. With that reading, he assigns Reading Questions--thought-provoking prompts that encourage students to bring their best ideas to the table during discussion. He goes out of his way to foster an environment of group collaboration that manages to stay very focused even when led by students--something that many professors find difficult to maintain. He has this ability to make the mundane, engaging--the tedious, a challenge--and the historic, current and relevant. Though he teaches for the full class period, it flies by. He has a command of the English language that a student can't help but admire and it is fascinating to hear him once he gets going. Perhaps the most important detail about Dr. Morera is his kindness that overflows into every aspect of his class. Not only is he respectful and courteous to his students, but he actually cares about them personally. He knows everyone by name, knows how they learn, and is very conscious of their abilities. He knows his tests are difficult and because of that, he also knows how to provide the tools for each and every student to succeed. And because it is a chief concern of students everywhere, YES he gives ample extra credit opportunities and is very understanding and cooperative with students that are willing to work for their success. He is also compassionate beyond belief--something that I had personal experience with during a particularly rough second semester. He is always there to talk if you need something, whether it be directly pertaining to the course or not. He is the kind of professor that should set the bar for all others out there and I cannot emphasize this enough.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:HIS 1305 - Dr. Morera was my favorite professor at Baylor during my first semester. His class almost guarantees a B as long as you put decent work into it. Although there is heavy reading and a fair bit of study, you will easily learn with Dr. Morera. He is a world history expert and is very knowledgeable of concepts taught in the course. Sometimes he likes to throw in a few jokes into his lectures, which can brighten the dullness if you do not care for history. I actually love history, which is probably why I like Dr. Morera very much. Overall, you WILL learn if you have Dr. Morera as a history professor.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1307 - Dr. Morera is great! He really knows his stuff and is extremely helpful for paper, quizzes, and any other questions you might have. Workload is a little much, but with good time management you will definitely succeed!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:HIS 1307 - 1307 - I'm a History major and I hated this class. I strongly disliked his lecturing style, in fact I found him to be terribly boring; I learned basically nothing in this class. Thank goodness for the textbook and my love of history because those were the only things that kept me going in this class. The workload is not bad, reading mostly. The exams are okay as well, they have some multiple choice but it's mostly ID's and essay form. He grades pretty tough. Overall, I would recommend taking another professor if you can. I know I'll be avoiding his classes in the future.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2012-08-15

Comments:1307 - First you should take somebody else and avoid taking him if you can. Good things in this class-he jokes around and is a good speaker. Also he post his powerpoints on BB so you could just study those for the quizzes and do ok. However, this is an extremely hard class. only 2 test (midterm and final) and 2 papers (which are so subjective he like writes 3 things on your papers which are mostly question marks and then assigns you some random grade. I found the workload tough it would take forever to read the chapters. Test are superhard and he takes forever to give back graded papers.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2012-05-25

Comments:1307 - He was a hard professor that expected a lot from his students. His tests are hard and there are only 2, the midterm and the final. With that said its also important to know that there are weekly test that mostly cover what he went over in class and the rest is straight from the book chapter required to read. He is very smart, knows a lot and has a true passion for both teaching and history. He is approchable and tried to make the class period as fun and interesting as possible. The class is not easy, but with all you learn at the end of the year, taking him is worth the effort.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1305 - I'm not sure what exactly some of my classmates are basing their impressions on but for what I could see, Dr. Morera was a pretty okay teacher. One day one he handed out a big think syllabus that told us all his expectations of us, as well as everthing we'd be covering throughout the semester and all the due dates for assignments. In addition to just lecturing at us, he also broke up the class into groups for discussions and used powerpoints with lots of notes and pictures (which he posted onto BB for us). He handed out assignment sheets, study guides and his grading criteria before each paper or test, and reviewed with us before each test. If you went to his office hours he even was willing to look over drafts of things before you turned them in. So really, besides writing our papers for us and taking our exams, what else could the guy have done?  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:History 1305-06 - DO NOT TAKE THIS GUY AS YOUR TEACHER. I have no idea why he's able to teach at baylor. His teachings do not even correspond with the lesson. He even asked our class to GIVE HIM A GOOD RATING ON BU BOOKS because he had the lowest number. Half of the class pity voted for him so that's why his grade went up. Trust me, do not take this dude. NOT WORTH IT.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2012-05-06

Comments:1305 - He announces expectations, listen. Look at powerpoints for weekly quizzes. Actually read books, revise book based papers, and tie back everything you write EVERYTHING to the textbook themes. You have to spend 15-30 hours to make A's on final and midterm, but he gives you topics ahead of time. Look the topics up, find out background facts, dates, and overall cause/effects(DO THE RESEARCH), then you will make an A. He's hard, but I loved him because I knew exactly what he expected every class. He doesn't budge, but if you talk to him after class he will help you to correct mistakes. He's a little blunt so trust him when he says his policies-every absence past 3 means 1 lower grade. so miss 5 you go from A to B. Miss 7 and your at a C.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1307 - Pretty nice guy, actually cares about his job and teaching. charismatic and a pretty good speaker. the only issue with his class, is if you dont write well or at least, how he wants. your screwed, the majority of your grade comes from essays, and essay tests. i got lower grades on essays and tests than other students who admit i put exponentially more effort into my work. great teacher, if your a good writer your fine. *** his BUbooks score should be ignored*** most of these reviews are old, and he asked his students to rate him and increase his grade, so all those within 4/25-26 are written by the students who absolutely love him  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1307 - Dr. Morera is an excellent teacher. He tries hard to keep the class interesting even though some of the topics are kind of dull. He's really big on really understanding the concept of history, which i think he does a good job at. He gives quizzes every week over the readings which are fairly easy . He does give supplemental readings out but he's fair and only have to do 2/4 but he also gives a lot of extra credit which is extremely helpful. At first the workload seems overwhelming but with time management and dedication this class isn't difficult.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1305 and 1307 - Doctor Morera is an incredible professor! I learned so much in his class and really enjoyed it! In fact I loved it so much the first time I took him again! He is very well prepared and can always answer your questions . The work load is really not that difficult you just have to study for the quizzes. His grading system is really great plus he offers extra credit! I would recommend him to any student who finds history interesting!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1307 - Dr. Morera is a great teacher; his lectures are really funny and interesting, and the readings for the class are informative. The workload is heavy, but Dr. Morera does his best to help you pack the last 500 years of history into your memory.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:HIS 1307 - Prof Morera is an AMAZING teacher. At first the amount of work seems like a lot but its only the first 2 weeks of class. He gives a quiz every wednesday, even though you do have to read for them if you listen in class they are pretty easy. He gives A LOT of extra credit so if you don't do well on the essays and midterm he gives changes to redeem yourself. History, of course is a lecture class but he makes it fun. He has a sense of humor and tries really hard to make it interesting. I personally really enjoyed his class. I have never gotten an A in a history course before until I took his class. I personal recommend Mr. Morera!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1307 - hes funny but i learned like nothing just spends the whole time arguing his opinions with the class and nothing of that is on the exams he doesnt believe in multiple choice the exams are solid short answer and essay yuk. dreaded this class  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:1307 - Morera is a cool dude. His classes tended to be fairly monotonous and lengthy; however, he did his best to switch things up and keep it interesting. Most of the stuff discussed in lecture is not specifically included on the exams. To make stellar grades on his tests, you should rely heavily on the textbook and review sheet. Keeping up with the reading is another must-- at least skim to get the general idea--because his weekly quizzes are straight out of the text. Funny guy--real dry humor. Overall, not an atrocious experience and learned a lot!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:History 1307 - At first he comes across a bit intense and strict but as people start dropping he becomes more laid back. There is a bit of a work load but nothing too ridiculous. There is a quiz every week on a chapter from the textbook and map. The quizzes are never too hard and he always puts in choices which are obviously wrong. His tests are all essay but he gives you the prompts and terms you need to know way in advance. He is pretty funny and I always enjoyed his lectures. He is open to suggestions on his teaching style and is always able to answer any questions respectfully.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2011-05-24

Comments:1307 - He doesn't really deserve this bad of a rating. He was a really nice teacher that seemed super tough at the beginning, but the class turned out to be not very hard. He's clear with what he's asking and is willing to help. He was also pretty funny and joked around a lot.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2011-05-05

Comments:1307 - For the first half of the semester I didn't really enjoy having him and was pretty frustrated with the grades that I received on my first paper and test. After taking a step back to analyze my performance it became clear that it was my mistakes that costed me, not his grading style. I altered my writing technique on the essays and wrote out detailed responses to the study guides. The improvement on those two fronts, coupled with the ease of the map quizzes, helped raise my grade significantly. I rarely said anything in class but he still noticed that I was an intelligent student that understood the subject matter and treated me with respect when I talked to him. In general, his teaching style and personality took some getting used to but I was content with my decision to take his class. However, if you are not willing to make adjustments to how you handle the course or if you do not have thick skin, do not take his class.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2011-04-06

Comments:1307 - I don't think he is as bad as people said. Yes, his classes are boring but just take it as nap time--you will only loss grade for attendance and that won't effect your exam grade. Maps are very easy and thats 20%, there are 4 essay assignments but he only ask you to write 3, also 20%. Even if you say nothing you can get at least 80% out of 15%. There are 3 exams, each is 15%. I think exams are easy, his study guide tell you exactly what in the exam. Just read the book, even google them because you don't need to know the detail. If you want a easy A or pass, choose other professor, but he is also a good choice if you work hard.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2011-01-08

Comments:1307 - i have NEVER in my life felt so much anger towards this professor. Days I would get so mad at him I could not even look at him as he rambled on about stuff that was never on the tests. I studied hours for his ridiculous tests and never made a satisfying grade. if you do not write exactly his opinion in your answer you make a B.. and thats with just missing you. basically, he is awful, should no longer be at Baylor, and should find a new profession.  - Grade In Class:F

Date: 2010-12-01

Comments:1302 - First of all, if you want to learn anything DO NOT TAKE HIM. He cannot teach well, nor does he try to teach anything of importance. He mumbles a lot, and he is obsessed with star wars. If you're stuck with him, when he gives you a study guide for the test memorize everything on it and you'll make B's. But truly, if you want to learn anything or make an A, don't take him.   - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2010-12-01

Comments:1307 - This is by far the worst professor I have ever had. I did not learn anything in the whole course of the class. His lectures made no sense and really had nothing to do with any historical events. He mumbles when lecturing and you can't understand anything he is saying. His tests are virtually impossible to be successful on. I have never had below a B on an exam and normally get As but after studying for over 10 hours for his exams I still fail. He asks for things like why an event was significant and you have to find your answer from the book. However, if you don't use the same example as him you are marked as wrong, even if your answer is also correct. I don't know any of my fellow classmates who are successful in this class either. Not only will you learn nothing, you will be so frustrated with the impossibility of receiving an A that you will want to yank out your hair. This is the only college course I have not been able to get an A in even though I've put more time and effort in to this class than any other. And in the end I've learned nothing from all of it. If you want to learn something or get a good grade, RUN!  - Grade In Class:B
