Comments:REL 1350 H - Dr. Whitt is AWESOME! He's very passionate about what he teaches, and the tests are always from the PowerPoint. He prepares us well, and I think he truly is trying to show us how Christianity ended up so diverse. He is a pretty objective professor and tries to remain as unbiased as possible when teaching even though he is strongly Baptist. I would recommend taking this course, especially if you're looking for an Honors credit to knock out. It's pretty manageable.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:MH 2301 - I loved Dr. Whitt! I honestly do think that he is one of my favorite professors that I have taken at Baylor so far! He is clearly very passionate about the medical humanities, and I found him very inspiring. I think what makes him great is that it is very evident that he truly does care about what he teaches, and he makes it obvious by relating his teachings to everyday occurrences in our lives and also uses stories from his own life. I really do think that I will take a lot of his teachings with me into the future. In regards to the class, he made lectures very engaging, as he had a conversational kind of teaching, where the class would participate in the lecture based off the reading before class. The only thing that I didn't like about this class was that there was a decent amount of reading that had to be done every class period. If you wanted to meaningfully contribute and get something out of each class period, it is really important that you read. He also sometimes gives pop-reading quizzes. His exams were not bad at all. A few days before the exam, Whitt would post a "concentrated areas of study" guide which is basically things that he wants for you to be sure to nail down for his exam. If you just fill in this study guide with the notes you take in class, you'll be more than ready for his exams. We did it on a Google Doc and just copy and pasted the same stuff for the final exam. His exams were made up of multiple choice, T/F, and a few short-answer essay questions. There weren't really any big surprises on the exam, he gave everything that you needed to know ahead of time, so that was really nice. If you get the chance, definitely take Dr. Whitt! I really think that he is a blessing and that he really wants his students to succeed.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:GTX 2301 - I would NOT recommend Whitt. Unless you enjoy being insulted every class, treated like you are an idiot, and given no guidance on how to improve your grade. He gives no explanation for the grades he gives, his notes are completely illegible. He will pretend to be caring and supportive, but will turn around and insult your intellegence. He assigns waaaaay too much reading/essays/journals. Don't expect to ever finish the assignments, or understand what is expected of you. He DOES NOT round up your final grade. I ended the year with an 89.67, and he didn't give me an A. In sum, do not take Whitt unless you enjoy being insulted, having too many assignments to handle, and senseless grading.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:GTX 2301 - There are three things you need to know about Dr. Whitt. First, he is in fact a very good teacher. He presents a lot of novel ideas and really helps you understand the context for the material; even if you don't normally like literature courses, you'll probably find this interesting. Second, he is EXTREMELY sarcastic. (Example: "How will this paper be graded?" "In a bad mood." Or: "What? Nobody in here has seen Casablanca? You are all horrible human beings.") This can be hilarious or irritating depending on how you interpret it. Just roll with it and don't offend yourself by taking everything he says literally. Third, he is first and foremost looking for an ARGUMENT with SUPPORT in your papers. If you just answer the topic prompt in correct English, you'll probably get a B. If you present an original interpretation and support it, however, you can easily get 97s or 98s on the papers. There's a fair amount of reading to do, and several papers to write, as well as a funky oral final unlike anything I've ever seen, but it's manageable. Just stick to the schedule and you'll be fine.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:GTX 2301 - As an engineering major, I was not really looking forward to Great Texts. Dr. Whitt made the class interesting though, and it was one of my favorite classes of the semester. Dr. Whitt is a really nice guy and genuinely cares about his students. It was a lot of work with reading for every class and a few essays. I thought he was fairly generous on the grading, especially on the midterm, which could have been really hard if he had been a tough grader. I would definitely take Dr. Whitt again if I had the chance.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2301-Honors - Dr. Whitt is an incredible professor. I was nervous about taking great texts, but Dr. Whitt made everything so interesting. I have never been so challenged in a class before. It requires a lot of reading, but every great texts class is like that. Whitt is very engaging and I never felt bored in class. We had four papers, a final 8-10 page paper, a midterm and a final. He is an EXTREMELY fair grader--he even admitted that he probably grades too easily. Unlike a lot of professors, Whitt actually cares about his students and truly wants them to succeed. He tells stories about his 3 year old boy that are always entertaining. It is by no means an easy class..I had to hold on to my A through the entire semester, but it is SO worth it. TAKE WHITT. You won't regret it.  - Grade In Class:A
