*A 5 star workload is an easy workload; a 3 star is average; whereas a 1 star workload is extremely hard.
Comments:MICRO - Dr. Keebaara is a very nice professor and very helpful. While her slides aren't really necessary they are a good guide for what you should look for. HOW TO GET AN A: She'll assign you Mcgraw hill assignments. The ones you specifically need to study are the PRACTICE QUESTIONS. Do not waste your time on the assignments besides just getting the completion grade. She tells you that you need to do the practice 2-3 because she pulls questions from the question bank for her quizzes and tests, but what I ended up doing was looking up quizlets and doing them multiple times so I can memorize the questions. If you do that you should be fine on the test and the quizzes. The final, however, is mostly immunology so I would focus on studying that for the last couple of weeks leading up to the final. Her final wasn't terrible, but I was taking immunology at the time so I knew what to look for. All and all if you study the practice assignments and quizlets you should get an A. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1305 - TAKE HER. shes great she gives you everything you need to pass the class. She does clicker questions and weekly quizzes that have the clicker questions in it so you should always average a 7/10 or higher. Her homework has all the answers on quizlet and are a huge grade boost. Her exams are not that hard they have all the clicker and quiz questions in them so there are easy points but you still need to study. She drops a exam and 3 quizs and the quiz are worth as much as a exam so it helps alot. She lets you take notes in her office hours at the end of the semester on the 4 exams and you use those to study for the final because she uses all her exams questions on the final. - Grade In Class:C
Comments:1305 - she is so bad. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU WANT TO PASS BIOLOGY. TAKE IT ONLINE!!!! if this is your last choise STILL DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE! - Grade In Class:B
Comments:BIO4302 - Dr. Kebaara is so nice and very genuine. That being said, her teaching ability is abysmal. She will take each class to read off the slides and offers little to no explanation outside of the poorly worded slides. You are almost better off teaching yourself the material. That being said, the majority of the material is not difficult if you've made it this far. The first three units are pretty much a breeze and the tests are very straight forward. The last unit of material is where things get tricky. The immunology material is like learning a different language; it's so incredibly foreign. While I have my complaints, the 3 tests and a final structure beats Dr. Lawson's midterm and final approach, so if you're on the fence between Lawson and Kebaara about which to take, take Kebaara if only for the test structure. If you memorize the practice questions from homework you should be set for every exam but the final which is made up straight out of her rear end. Cushion your grade going into finals because you'll need it. Be ready to drop a full letter grade regardless because the final is ROUGH - Grade In Class:B
Comments:Microbiology - Dr. Kebaara is so cute! She is clearly passionate about her research and class and wants her students to do well. There are clicker quizzes in class and homework assignments that help boost your grade. She also gives you the opportunity to replace your lowest test grade with the final. However there is a catch where you sign a paper if you want to switch your lowest grade with the final BEFORE you take the final, so you have the potential to do worse. At the end of the day though I enjoyed her class and it was not too hard but still engaging. You should take her for MICRO she's so nice and go to her office hours!!!! - Grade In Class:B
Comments:bio 1305 - Dr. K is amazing. She gives you all the resources you need to pass the exams and puts the quiz questions on the exam, which was super helpful. Her final exam was half previous exam questions and half new material, and she let us review our previous exams in preparation for the final. Her lectures are interesting and not once was I bored during her class. She does have an accent, but I didn't find her hard to understand. If you have any questions, she is super helpful. TAKE HER CLASS! - Grade In Class:B
Comments:BIO 1305 - Kebaara is an amazing teacher, friendly person, and always willing to help. Grading wise, all her exams are multiple choice (there’s 4 of them, lowest score is dropped) worth 45% of your grade, bi-weekly ish quizzes worth 15%, and HW worth 20% (all the answers are on quizlet), and the final is worth 20% (most of the questions are pulled straight from previous tests and quizzes). Lectures are completely useless, read/memorize the textbook and you will get an A. She uses a clicker to take attendance and for quizzes. Pay attention to the clicker questions during lectures and quizzes as they will reappear on the tests/final. Definitely take her if you can, especially if you’re a pre-med (I am a pre-med). - Grade In Class:A
Comments:BIO 1305 - Dr. Kebaara is super sweet and is straight to the point with her lectures. She does speed through them because sometimes she will take awhile to explain things, and then she realizes she is running out of time or behind schedule. She will answer any questions in class and in her office-hours very openly. You can review the exams and she even held a 2-hour review before the final to review the previous exams overall, as the final was comprehensive and over new material (really take advantage of it). There is mastering biology hw which is super quick and easy, good grade boost (look up quizlets). In-class clicker quizzes every week, study her slides very well before going in. She goes over the answers afterwards. And then 4 exams, plus the final. The exams include the quiz and clicker questions from during class, so pay real attention and you should make above average on the exams honestly. Her powerpoint slides in class are good at grasping what topics from the textbook she wants you focus on, but I do recommend still reading the textbook. Overall, really sweet teacher and good class. I learned a lot. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:MICRO - HOW TO GET AN A. I am not in any way a smart cookie, however, the way in which to one can get an A in this class is fairly simple. The test questions all come from the the homework practice questions (NOT THE ASSIGNMENTS). All you have to do is memorize these questions and I suggest making a quizlet to ensure you can pick out the multiple choice by memory on the test. The only issue with this is you are given a second try on the practices with about 10 of the questions on it being new. So if you really want to ensure you know every single question Dr. Kebaara will choose, taking the practices twice--however, it's worth it and will 100% give you an A. Unless she does something different in future semesters, taking micro with Kebaara is very much worth it and you'll get an A if you know the practice questions by heart! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:BIO 1305 - Bio profs at Baylor are all pretty bad. With that being said, from the options you have to choose from, I would say Dr. Kebaara is probably one of the better options. The homework in mastering is pretty straightforward. She gives you three attempts to complete it and it tells you the correct answers after each attempt so there is no reason to get anything less than 100% on them. Homework is also about 20% of your grade so I really recommend doing them or otherwise you're losing easy points. Her lectures are basically just 50-70 slides and you're writing as much down as possible in the given class time so I recommend looking at them before class and taking notes on them before so you don't get left behind. The exams are pretty tough. You need to actually know the concepts and be familiar with them because the exams are application based and you won't do well if you just memorize definitions. They are 50 questions, both multiple choice and T/F. Clicker quizzes are given either every week or every other week if you have an exam. Exam material is from lecture, book, and homework. No extra credit and she does not curve. She recommends to read the textbook before class and I say you can do that or look at the lectures before to get a general idea of what's happening. I can't emphasize this enough, GO TO SI. I learned more in SI than I did in lecture. Overall, Bio is tough and Dr. Kebaara is probably one of the better profs for 1305, but still not very good. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1305 - She is a nice as a person but is a confusing teacher. She goes through all her slides quickly- about 60 slides per class. She goes so fast it is hard to process it all and ask questions. Her tests are very hard in the way that you have to have a strong understanding in the concepts. She gives a lot of quizzes and questions on both her quizzes and tests are worded in a way that is hard to understand. I went to her office numerous times looking for ways I can increase my grade and the whole time she said “I don’t know what to do or how to help you”. She does not give any extra credit or curve the tests. I have cried numerous times over this course. I wouldn’t recommend taking her if you don’t have much knowledge in biology. - Grade In Class:C+
Comments:BIO 4401 - I do not usually like Biology, but Microbiology was a pretty enjoyable course. The material is interesting and Kebaara explains it well. She is always available during her office hours and responds to emails rather quickly. I'd suggest memorizing the slides, and I mean every detail of every slide, and using the book to supplement concepts that are more difficult/aren't explained well on the slides. The tests are fair and she gets questions from concept questions in the book, quiz questions, and other questions she asks in class. She really is a great professor. My only complaint would be the lab section this course is paired with... That lab final is ridiculously hard and brought my grade down from an A to a B+. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:1305 - Dr. Kebaara is a very nice lady, despite what the other reviews say. She doesn't really like teaching freshman level courses, but she did a pretty good job. The tests are not too bad and neither are the "clicker quizzes." I had an 88 going into the final, and I got a 90 so she bumped me up to an A. I'd Choose Kebaara over Miles, Holmes and Chacon, but this class can be boring and there is a lot of work to do if you want to do well on the quizzes and tests. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1305 - Not a bad prof. She tends to laugh if you ask a question which can make you feel stupid but she will always answer it. Go to office hours. The quizzes can be worded oddly and you do have to truly study for them. The tests are fair. For a bio professor, not that bad. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1305 - I started off this year with slight positive feelings about Kebaara, but like the previous reviewer, she really is sassy and not approachable. Sometimes I would go to her office hours to ask general concept questions and she would give me an attitude like I should have known these concepts. So I would say there are far nicer professors in the Bio department with better accents than Kebaara. As far as the workload goes, mastering bio homework is very easy. BUT!!!! She pulled a fast one on this and this cost me my A in the class. This is NOT mentioned in the syllabus btw... she takes off for attendance. So if you miss 4 or 5 classes throughout the year, she will take that score over the 38 days of class and give you a percentage. Honestly it was very wrong and I know that there were other people in the class whose grade was lowered because of this. As far as the tests go, they are very difficult. I had AP Bio in highschool and still struggled with these. There were four tests with one dropped, I made A's on two of them and C's on the others, which made for a low final grade. I would avoid taking this teacher even though all of the other Bio teachers are terrible as well. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1305 - I'm going to give an honest perspective on Kebaara. Although she isn't a terrible professor perse, she definitely isn't good. Her accent makes it difficult to pay attention in class, her lectures are extremely general and her tests are relatively difficult. If i studied more for her class and kept up with the Mastering Bio homework, I would have probably ended up with a B. The people who received A's in our class are exceptionally smart. I know people who worked their asses off and got B's on every test. She's organized in a sense that she has power points before ever class that we can take notes on, but her tests are 90% application questions which require you to truly understand the material. If you're someone who's not gifted in biology or sciences, do not take Kebaara if you want an A. I was able to pass all the tests by guessing the correct answers… which shows how much her tests were based on application. She's also very sassy. Although she isn't "mean," she's not the most approachable either. - Grade In Class:C
Comments:1305 - Great professor and she is super nice! If you do not understand the material just go to her office hrs and she will be more than happy to go over the material with you. Make sure to study for her tests thoroughly. they are usually 50 questions long and contains 5-10 T/F and fill in the blanks. But if you read the textbook, pay attention in class, and do mastering you will be fine! - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:4401 - I really liked Dr. Kebaara as a professor. She taught was what we needed to know, and made it pretty clear on what we were going to be tested on. The quiz questions are similar to the test questions, so she gives you a chance to see kind of how the test will be. The tests are multiple choice, true false, and fill in the blank with a word bank. She is extremely nice, but she doesn't like when you come in late so be on time. She makes herself available and is super helpful if you need it. There is no homework, just quizzes and tests. I would recommend getting the textbook even though a lot of reviews say you don't need it. I thought it supplemented her slides well. I read a previous post about how her slides are sometimes vague. Sometimes they are, but she usually talks more in depth about it so I feel like it is a student's job to either write it down, or go through the book and elaborate on it yourself. I learned a lot from this class and I thought she was a great professor. As for the lab, I also didn't think it was that bad. I had a good TA though who was super helpful (Grace). Just make sure you study a lot (particularly the study guides in the lab manual) for the midterm and final and you will be fine. Overall, I really enjoyed this class. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Micro - Sorry to all the Pre-Dent and Pre-PT people who have to take this. Have fun studying like a crazy person and still getting B's on like everything. Oh and better yet. Have fun in Micro lab! Claudia, the lab instructor, is cold and hard and that lab WILL bring down your lecture average. I wish Baylor offered more than one person to teach this course. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:BIO 4401 - I agree with the previous poster in that the material was very easy and that Dr. Kebaara might not be the best lecturer, but there's no reason not to get a good grade in the class. The powerpoint slides give you all the information needed, but there are lots of slides that only have vocab words on them without definitions. I know a lot of people say the book is useless, but I thought it really helped supplement her slides (especially when I had to miss class for med school interviews - which was also the case for a good portion of the students in our class). Also, the lectures might get a little boring so reading the book, for me, really helped because I had a tendency to forget the majority of lectures. About the lab... it sucks. The unknowns are a pain and the amount of information to memorize (especially for diseases) was more than I expected. I made A's on the lecture exams but got a B in the lab. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:4401 - Kebaara's class is similar to a foreign language class. You must first translate her notes, which are usually unrelated words written on a slide that may or may not even be associated with the title. So, you have to figure out what she is trying to teach you. Second, you must translate what she is saying. She has a thick accent and half the time you can't understand her. Her quizzes are usually word for word from the notes. However, her tests are impossible to study for. Some of the material we never went over, some questions you are expected to apply to situations in which the correct answer is impossible to figure out. The material is EASY, but she is the worst teacher I have taken at Baylor, and I'm a senior biology major who doesn't get B's often. She was the only thing stopping me from a 4.0 this semester. The lab was easy as long as you do your assignments and get decent grades on the midterm and final. I knew many kids in my class last semester that were scoring 35s on MCATs, 4.0 their whole undergrad career, and were making Cs in this class. Watch out. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:Bio 4401 - Dr. Kebaara is a great teacher. Take her for microbiology. Although the lab was difficult and brought down many grades, Dr. Kebaara curved the grades up for our class a alittle at the end. You don't need the book for the class, but it is useful to add more information from the book to the powerpoint notes. She tests off of the powerpoint notes and the lecture, so take notes and study the powerpoints and you will do fine. :) - Grade In Class:A
Comments:4401 - I had Dr. Kebaara for General and Pathogenic Microbiology. She is very nice and makes difficult material seem not that difficult. For an upper-level bio class the tests are not too bad and you learn a lot! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:4401 - Good teacher, good upper level bio course. Do not need the book for this class. She teaches and tests straight from the lecture. The material can sometimes be dense. Stay awake and take notes though. The lab however can be a pain.. - Grade In Class:B
