Comments:STA 3381 - As an engineering student, statistics is a whole lot of fake math. For me, it wasn't very intuitive, but Dr. Hill really knows her stuff and does a good job teaching. However, she's a statistician, so the vast majority of her notes in class are conceptual and not enough of showing me how to do the problems with practice problems. Also, I didn't have a tablet, so taking notes was really difficult since it was purely premade PowerPoints. Quizzes were very fair, and tests were pretty challenging, but she is a VERY generous grader. I really hated Stats, but Dr. Hill is great and probably your best option. Just try to enjoy your time in class as much as possible, and take her!  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:STA 4385 - Don't expect any surprises from this class. Know your calculus and do your homework, asking questions as needed, and the exams (graded on a generous scale) will be very doable. Hill is caring, fair, and available.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3381 - Dr. Hill is a pretty good professor with a very generous grading scale on tests. She curved all of our tests, and weighted the one we did the best on the most, which definitely helped out my grade. The homework isn't too difficult, and the practice problems are harder than the test questions. The lectures can be pretty boring and hard to stay awake in, even as a morning person. Overall a good professor though.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3381 - Dr. Hill is a great teacher. Her slides, lectures, homework, and office hours are all super accessible. Homework is minimal, and tests are not as hard as the practice problems she suggests you do in your spare time. She also curves a bit and is generous. BUT her classes are incredibly boring, and lowkey feels like an in-person zoom class. No interaction, monotone lecturing, and no pauses between sentences. It gets hard to focus and stay awake. While she is a great teacher, drink a coffee before class, coming from personal experience.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:STA 3381 - Dr. Hill is a very good professor. She knows a lot about statistics and does a very good job of teaching the class. There is not very much homework, but she does give a list of textbook questions which are very helpful to prepare for exams. The exams are also very fair. I think she did curve them a little, but they were pretty easy. The one thing I did not like about the class was just how boring it was. It was sometimes very hard to stay awake and pay attention. Other than that, the class was great!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:STA 3381 - Nothing bad to say about her. She is VERY good at teaching and you can tell she knows what she's talking about. She tells you exactly what you need to do both in the syllabus and in class. The exams aren't necessarily easy, but she doesn't throw you any curveballs, so if you prepare and pay attention you can get a good grade. There aren't very many graded assignments, so make sure you're doing the practice problems she lists in the syllabus and her slides, even if it's just one or two, because that will help you be ready for the exam. She also posts her lectures online which is helpful if you miss a few classes.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3381 - Dr. Hill is wonderful. Coming into this course, she lets you know exactly how homeworks and exams will be, and she keeps her word. Do the assigned and optional homework, go into office hours, and pay attention in class, and you'll be sure to do well. Plus, she's very available in office hours, explains things clearly and simply in class, and loves what she does. Nothing flashy here except simple and fair learning, but Hill is great.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2381 - Dr. Hill is an amazing professor who dedicates her time to the success of her students. The online course is asynchronous and with that difficulties come up. She always responded within 5 minutes and was there to help always. Take her and thank me later.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3381 - Dr. Hill is sweet, passionate, caring, and very intelligent. This course was pretty straight forward: optional textbook practice problems, about 8 graded homework assignments which were pretty short and easy if you keep up with the notes, 2 midterms which were challenging and a little long for 50 minutes but very fair and doable, and a final which was easier than expected. Dr. Hill herself is a great lecturer. Yes the lectures can get a bit dull, but which class doesn’t get dull here and there? Overall, great professor, fair workload, easy graded homework, slightly challenging exams, and a rewarding experience. TAKE HER!!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3381 - Dr. Hill is a solid but not outstanding professor. Her lectures can be a bit dull and sometimes go to fast, but her tests are very fair and doable with adequate preparation. Test questions are based off homework problems, so doing them is important. If this is your first stats class, the first few units may be confusing and difficult (they certainly were for me). The content became much easier as the course progressed and I was more accustomed to doing stats problems.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3381 - Dr. Hill was a great teacher and was also very nice. She was very accommodating in the switch to online. Not too much homework, tests were fair based on the material they covered, and she gives some extra credit  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3381 - Great teacher for this class, very minimal amount of required work, occasional extra credit. Gives optional textbook homework, if you do it the tests are easy, if not they're hard. It's best to do all the textbook homework the couple days before the test to keep it fresh in your mind. Definitely recommend  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3381 - This class was pretty difficult. If you’re planning on taking it with a full load, I wouldn’t recommend it. If you make time to do ALL the textbook hwk and visit her in office hours, you’ll do alright. The class takes a lot of effort. I was taking 16 hours and didn’t put as much effort as I wanted to and came out with a B. Overall, she’s awesome, insanely smart, and the best prof for this course.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:STA 3381 - Learned quite a bit for little effort, highly recommend. She does teach absolutely ridiculously fast, so be ready for that. Very little required homework, no quizzes, 2 tests + final. Homework gives a pretty hefty buffer grade. She will basically give you the answers before you turn it in if you ask her in office hours. Straight forward material, you learn basically everything you need in the first couple of weeks & everything after it is some variation of that material. Tests are slight variations of homework & examples in class. If you are worried, do a couple of suggested problems from each chapter, they are harder than the test problems. Not difficult to do well if you are good at problem solving.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3381 - From what I've heard, Hill is the best professor for 3381, so I suggest to take her! She is very organized but does go a little fast in class, so be sure to keep up with her. She assigns homework from the book, which is never due and then has occasional written homework assignments that are pretty simple and she allows plenty of time to finish. The tests are challenging but do-able. Also, she allows a sheet of paper to write notes on for the test, which is SUPER helpful. Also, I just bought the online book and that's cheaper and I haven't had any problems with it at all. Overall, good professor, but not the easiest class.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3381 - Take Hill. I can't say that enough. This class is a prerequisite for so many classes and most of the professors who teach it are horrible. Hill, on the other hand, is very nice and teaches at a much slower pace. You don't have many homework assignments and the tests are reasonable. If you want a nice professor to get you through this class, take Hill!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3381 - She is why I got an A in Econometrics. She is almost always available in Office hours, and a lifesaver even after i finished her class. i also got 100's on every exam just by writing the formulas on our formula chart, and her homeworks really easy.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3381 - If you want a class where you write nonstop every single day to a quiet and monotonous professor, look no further. During class, Hill will stand in a corner, project herself writing out the notes for you to copy, and mumble with her chin to her chest about how important this particular equation is for the test, just loud enough for the 5 closest students to hear. If you look away from the screen for two minutes or are not within earshot of her, you will be forced to do the massive amount of optional homework in order to just learn the material. She doesn't bother with connecting one section to the other, except by quick, unheard comments. Positive things: she lets you have one sheet of notes on a test and she weights the tests in a way that will benefit you. She's a nice enough lady, but don't expect to learn during class.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:STA 3381 - Hill is a great professor. She is extremely straightforward with teaching, she lets you have notes for the tests, is very specific about what will be on the tests, and is extremely organized. The book work is optional, but she occasionally does give out mandatory assignments; however, they're usually only 2-4 problems on average. These were usually enough to prepare me for the tests, in any case. If you want a very stress-free class that you will learn the material on, take Hill.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:3381 - Hill is a very kind and generous professor. Notes were outlined for you which help a ton on the homework and exams. Tests were free response but pertained to the notes and homework heavily. She stuck to the book in matters of format but facilitated difficult explanations in book by showing you an easier way to do it. Out of all the Stats classes I've taken, Hill has definitely been the best, strongly recommend.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:4385 - Dr.Hill makes this 4000 level sta course a breeze. make sure do all the homework including the optional one! though she is busy, she is willing to help everyone! i strongly recommend her inSTA department!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:STA 3381 - Dr. Hill provides everything you could reasonably want in an upper division course outside of your major. A very reasonable course load (though you should do the practice problems, the only required work consists of take home quizzes that are just in-class sample problems with different numbers), floating test averages (so your best test is weighted the most), and an enthusiasm in the subject that can't help stimulating your interest. The tests are reasonable, but not a walk in the park, and can be pretty long. You get a sheet of notes for each test. The class does go the full 50 minutes with a lot of fast-paced notes in each class, which can be a bit draining. Dr. Hill is a very nice person that takes her class seriously, but not so seriously that it is difficult. I would definitely take her again if I had the choice.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3381 - Easy class. TAKE IT IN THE MAYMESTER. Pay attention in class and do the take home quizzes and you won't even really need to do the homework.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:STA 3381 - I was apprehensive heading into Statistics with Dr. Hill this semester...I had heard that she was cold-hearted and intense and that the class was hard, even if you had taken stats before. My conclusion: you get what you deserve in this class. There is a reason she gives you that list of "optional" homework problems! Just doing the 5 small homework assignments she gives you isn't going to cut it in this class. I thought she was very fair, and she is very helpful if you talk to her after class or go to office hours. She even weights your exams based on how well you do: best test = 30%, second best = 25%, worst test = 10%. I thought that was pretty neat! She does write really fast, so be prepared for a little hand cramping!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3381 - Dr. Hill is pretty cool. Sit in front if you can because she kind of mumbles a bit, so it's hard to hear her. Do the optional homework because she uses those for the tests which are really easy so long as you did your homework. She's pretty easy going, so asking her questions is easy.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2012-08-03

Comments:3381 - She's an okay professor, but as is with most classes, you get what you put in. She stresses in class that you need to do the assigned homework (and there is a lot of it) to do well in the class. I didn't believe her, and my grade reflected it. The exams are based off of homework problems so if you did it, you should have no trouble. She is in her office very often if you need clarification on anything or help with the homework. She's a great professor, just remember, for STA 3381 you definitely get what you put in.  - Grade In Class:C
