Comments:1302, 2320, 3305 - Professor Shi assigns a lot of work. She is a lenient grader, but many feel that the work she assigns is just overwhelming. Higher level classes involve many presentations especially on-the-spot type where we must memorize and then recite in front of the class. She can be a little aloof as a person, but she is nice. Tests and quizzes have a lot of material on it and heavily based on memorization. Lots of projects. She tends to act or say things that imply she thinks nothing else, even other classes, are as important as her's. And if you don't act accordingly, her image of you changes.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2310 - Shi Laoshi can be disorganized but she is also very stressed a lot of the times so I understand. Her explanations would also be kind of confusing sometimes, but would always be willing to answer questions. As most of the class already knew each other, everyone was able to help each other out when it got confusing. Shi Laoshi is super sweet, and a very lenient grader. I think all of the language classes usually come with a lot of busy work, so what she asks us to do is not out of the ordinary. She gave us weekly quizzes to break the material down into more digestible chunks, and I think we only had 2 exams this semester which were formatted like her quizzes combined into one.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2310 - Here's the thing: Shi Lao Shi is a very nice woman, but if you're dealing with personal issues and cannot show up to class because of family emergencies or things like that, her willingness to be forgiving during that time is very limited. My attendance grade tanked despite my quiz/test grades being solid A's. Because my attendance grade plummeted (despite getting things settled with OALA) she still kept taking down my grade and didn't accept my accommodations. I am not a B student, but my attendance grade dragged me down.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1402 - Shi laoshi is so sweet and you can tell she genuinely wants everyone to learn and do well in her class. She literally lights up when you appear interested in class or ask questions, and doesn't seem to mind getting off topic/lesson plan, as long as its still about Chinese or Chinese culture. She has a really heavy workload compared to some other language classes, but its also Chinese and doesn't come easy. Studying and doing the work is really not optional at any point - don't take Shi if you aren't ready to spend a good amount of time dedicated to Chinese. That said, the homework is a pretty big part of your grade, which is great because its completion, so even if you don't do that well on quizzes, your grade will be okay. If you take Shi, you should not only expect a good amount of work, but also to learn a lot. I took a different prof for 1401 and wish I had taken Shi because I have already learned so much more in this semester than I did before. Overall Shi laoshi is great as long as you can keep up with the workload!!  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1402 - I felt the homework was unnecessary but if you study the workbook then you will do really well on the tests and quizzes. I don't feel like I learned as much as I did in Xin Wangs class but she is such a sweet and nice lady you could easily go to her for help.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2310 - The best, hands down. The nicest professor I've had at Baylor, and you can tell she truly wants everyone to be succeed in Chinese. Some class days are kind of dry, but most of the time, she teaches really well. Take Shi Laoshi, you won't regret it.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1402 - Chinese - Professor Shi is super nice and really wants you to learn Chinese. I thought she was really encouraging and really liked to see us make progress. Chinese is not going to be easy, obviously, so don't think an "average" workload is going to be like taking French or Spanish. I thought she really understood how much we could get done at a time, but also pushed us to make sure we covered everything. Got an A-, probably because I don't have the best memory for vocabulary. Would definately take again.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1401 - Professor Shi is extremely kind and helpful overall. That said, her class is very time consuming. Lots of projects and homework due every week. Prepare to study a lot if you're going into Chinese without previous language/cultural exposure. Lots of people in our class were either somewhat familiar with Chinese, or native speakers. That can cause gaps in teaching because sometimes she assumes that "the class" already understands what she's saying. She will go over anything you admit to not understanding, though. Ask questions in class or you will regret it come test time. There are plenty of tests though, so bombing one certainly won't affect your grade too terribly. And she adds in bonus points to every test without telling you, so try not to sweat not getting every character perfect on the assessments. Overall, I would recommend her to new Chinese students. Certainly one of the most approachable, consistently caring professors I've encountered.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1401 - Shi was very sweet, its nearly impossible to fail her class. I had a lot of fun but didn't learn as much as I would have liked to. But if you are just looking for the grade, this is the class for you. Study a lot and you can learn easily, study a little and you're still guaranteed to pass.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1401 - Chinese seemed like a risky language choice when all my friends were taking Spanish, but Professor Shi made it so clear and easy to learn. She is such a sweet person and so happy to help you learn her language. I would definitely take her again for the intro class.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1401/1402 - Very good easy solid teacher, should definitely get an A if you just study what she tells you. A lot of homework is completion, there is literally no way you can fail her class.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1401 - Professor Shi is a super nice lady. Her class is ok, but can be very dull. It is not challenging at all. It is an easy A for everyone in the class. She offers so many free bonus points.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:CHI 1402/2310 - Shi laoshi is an extremely sweet woman, and although her class may not be as interactive and as fun as Dr. Wang's, I find myself grown fond of her. Her quizzes and tests all have the same general format: recognition of new vocab (spoken orally by her), translating sentences into Chinese/English, using grammatical/sentence structures to write your own sentences. She also offers bonus questions on each of her quizzes and tests. In addition, she gives participation and homework grades, which are super easy. You tend to get "blog" projects and other projects that require you to use sentence structures and vocab learned in bed, but they're not bad, and they're usually more or less effort grades. Overall, I really enjoyed her class and the people in my class both semesters!   - Grade In Class:A
