Comments:1302 - Wow… what a semester. As one of Dr. Castleberry’s last students before her retirement, I just wanna say she was one of the coolest profs I’ve had. However, she wasn’t the easiest. Of course, if you do your owls and look at her extra help you will do good. But the tests were quite confusing. Anyway, she was awesome with office hours and gave so much helpful advice for chemistry majors. I liked her teaching style but I understand that it’s not for everyone. IMO her slides were verbose, super info packed which is great because sometimes you don’t wanna read the textbook. Best part about the class was the memes and her comedy. It was a good time.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - Terrible class. She offers a little bit of extra credit but not that much. An A in this class is a 94%. She does not know what she is talking about half the time and just reads off the PowerPoint the entire class. She is nice, and usually available, but there are definitely better professors who actually teach.  - Grade In Class:DROP

Comments:CHE 1301 - First off, Baylor is not know for having the best STEM professors, at least in my experience. With that being said, Dr. Castleberry is awesome. You will very much regret taking anyone else for both 1301 and 1302. The workload is mainly composed of OWL which can take up a lot of time and can be very tedious. To solve that problem, GO TO OFFICE HOURS. She will literally walk you through any problem you're having trouble with. As for the exams, they can be fairly difficult in some aspects but her practice exams very closely resemble the actual exams in terms of question difficulty. I really wasn't able to go to SI because I simply didn't have the time, but from what I've heard, it is really helpful. Something I really recommend doing is going to office hours on the day of an exam (before the exam ofc) and ask her what you should watch out for on the exam or what you can expect to be on it. This class overall is not a definite easy A, nor is any chemistry course, but if you put the work in and study for the exams, you'll be golden.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:CHE1302 - Dr. Castleberry was such a fun professor to have for chemistry! Even though I am not a big fan of chemistry, she made things understandable! An A in her class was a 94+ this semester, which sounds daunting, but is actually very doable; she gives out SO MUCH extra credit!! Tests were half multiple choice and half free response; she gives out a lot of partial credit on the free response, so show your work! OWL was tedious, but the difficulty honestly made the tests seem easier. Dr. Castleberry also made herself very available for homework/concept help via office hours. I would recommend her!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1306 - Easy enough class, but don't expect to actually learn anything. She spends class reading directly off of a powerpoint and working through problems. Half of the time, she makes multiple mistakes on the problem she's working, giggles, and says she's just "nervous". She doesn't curve, but she does give away extra credit like candy (seriously, just show up to class and you get points). She's very scatterbrained and doesn't seem to know what's going on half the time. She regularly misses office hours, ignores emails, and is generally just unhelpful. On the rare occasion that she does actually decide to show up to an office hour, she usually can't even answer her own homework questions. I'm not even kidding--she once gave me the wrong directions three times in a row, and finally ended up having to look up the answer on her OWL because she couldn't figure it out. On the plus side, she is can be fairly nice. I say can be, because your experience completely depends on whether or not she personally likes you. She's been known to help people personally on tests and to give them incredibly generous partial credit. So take that as you will. Other than the extra credit, the main redeeming quality of this class was the SI. He's slightly narcissistic and loves throwing random O-Chem questions into his sessions for "fun", but you learn to ignore it. He is always more than happy to completely explain things to you if you ask him to, and never makes anyone feel dumb. His practice tests are incredible hard but he walks you through them; if you understand those, you're pretty much set for the actual test. He ended up teaching us more than Castleberry herself did. If you want to get an A, take this class. If you want to gain any sort of meaningful experience, do yourself a favor and take literally anyone else.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:4327 - I got an A, but this class is largely a waste of time. I still feel as if I learned nothing and this class was pointless. Though she fairly sets up the class points system where an A is possible, it is still annoying busy work, mostly Additionally, I wasn't the biggest fan of her and her attitude. She honestly wasn't that friendly, was rude at times, and clearly picked favorites. The lab, is also poorly run, and probably is harder than the course itself. This class is a relatively easy A, but it is also a large waste of time--just get your A and get it over with.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:CHE 1302 - If you don't take her, you are going to regret it, your GPA is going to regret it, and ALL of your ancestors are going to be UTTERLY disappointed in you. This is literally one of the easiest science classes I took at Baylor, hands down. And the cool thing is that I actually learned despite it being so easy. IMAGINE THAT! It's like the perfect package: amazing professor, easy course, AND you still learn. Only if all classes at Baylor were like this. She gives fill-in-the-blank powerpoint notes that you can just fill in on your laptop during class. The tests are fairly easy, and you get a drop. If you do well on all of your exams, your final can be your drop. And she is just AMAZING. Super nice, funny, energetic about the material, and very personable. She is so easy to talk to and she will help you out if you ever need it. So, in the name of Linda Livingstone you better TAKE DR. CASTLEBERRY!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - Dr. Castleberry is a nice lady who really cares about her students. She wants everyone to pass her class so she gives out alot of extra credit. The workload is a bit rigorous. She assigns a good amount of homework through OWL. she assigns it as soon as you start a new unit and its due the day before a test. This can be a benefit or an inconvenience. If you are someone who likes to do work ahead of everything this would be good for you but if you are someone who procrastinates and likes deadlines instead everything being due at one time then this isn't so great. Her teaching style wasn't my favorite. She is funny and tried to make her lectures interesting but she did go a little fast and she didn't really give full explanations for certain concepts. My class used Chem 101 which made class interactive because we would solve equations. Chem 101 is also how she took attendance. If you answered the chem101 questions then you were counted present if you didn't you would be counted absent. She is probably one of the easier chem professors and passing her class isn't hard but if you want to really learn and understand certain concepts in chem for the MCAT or other chem classes you might want to take someone else. I taught myself most of the material through the homework and tutoring videos.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:4327 - In the past, I've heard that biophysical chem was the worst. Well, now that Dr. Castleberry is teaching it, it's bearable!! She does a good job teaching the material, which is dense with math and other dull topics at times. The class is structured with 12 online quizzes and 12 take-home / in-class assignments, which are basically open-note quizzes. I usually found that the textbook was more helpful for the online quizzes, and the notes I took in class were more helpful for the in-class stuff. It wasn't super hard to get an A at all. It's a point-based class and she gives us a lot of leeway, you can miss something like 150 points before you lose your A. I'd recommend visiting her in office hours if you can't figure out how to do a problem. She'll always help guide you in the right direction. Don't procrastinate on the online quizzes, because they can take a long time to do.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:CHE 1302H - Dr. Castleberry is one of the nicest professors I've ever had. You can tell she genuinely cares about all her students and is super willing to help you if you are struggling. She gives out extra credit just for showing up to class, which gets added onto your test grades. So, it's actually not that hard to get an A in her class, as long as you just keep up with your HW and generally understand what is going on in the class. Her teaching style is not my favorite, because she puts a powerpoint slide up and says a bunch of useful things while you're frantically trying to write down everything on the slide. So you don't really get much of what she says, but as said before, she is always willing to help by answering any questions. We did example problems of almost every topic in the slides, so that was helpful to understand how to apply the concepts. I would highly recommend going to SI, as it's another opportunity to walk through the topics in different kinds of problems than the ones in class. Overall, she was a great professor and I would recommend taking her for Chemistry.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - Honestly, despite Dr.Castleberry's great ratings on here, I didn't like her class. Even though she gives out a crazy amount of extra credit and an A is basically spoon fed to you, I honestly didn't learn much from her. This may be because I had her at 8am and my brain wasn't fully awake for her class, but I didn't take her for Chem 2 and I learned so much (even though I felt behind). Her exams are pretty easy, considering that I didn't know what I was doing but I still somehow got the grade I needed. The only thing I didn't like was that the OWL assignments for her class were insanely long and sometimes asked things that we never went over in class, which left me confused and super frustrated. However, she is a very nice lady and makes herself very accessible for office hours. Take her if you want an easy A, but if you might want to take somebody else if you want to learn.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:CHE 1302 Honors - Dr. Castleberry is awesome. She gives out extra credit like candy just for showing up to class, and she's always willing to talk to you after class or in office hours. I'm not the biggest fan of her teaching style, though. She hands out the powerpoint with parts of it missing and you just fill it in as she goes through it. Class ends up being a cycle of her talking for a minute and waiting for 3 minutes while everyone copies down the slide. It's very easy to not learn anything if you don't pay attention and just copy the notes. Homework consists of small online reading quizzes every week or so and then online Smartwork that goes along with the textbook. The quizzes are pretty easy and you get multiple attempts, Smartwork can be tricky and time-consuming, but she gives you plenty of time to get it done. Exams were usually like 3 questions with maybe 7-10 parts each, which means that you can get a lot of partial credit, but it also means that you can get lost really easily if you don't know what you're doing.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2018-05-09

Comments:CHE 1302 - She gives tests that are a fair mix of concepts and math, which is nice but not gonna lie I didn't like her teaching style at all. Spent the entire class writing what she had on her powerpoint and she would talk about it for a minute and two and then be silent for three or four while we wrote. She just didn't explain super well. But SI did the trick and the OWL supplemented the notes so the tests were easy to do well on.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301/1302 - I have had Castleberry for two semesters now and she is easily my favorite professor. Her class is not a ton of work outside class and the tests are very fair (She also give lots of extra credit if you come to class). She is great in office hours and really cares about her students and their success in her class. She is such a sweet lady and really gets to know you if you come into her office hours. The lectures are not the most interesting because it is freshman level chemistry, but her enthusiasm and personality make it more engaging. I would highly recommend taking Castleberry.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2018-04-13

Comments:1301 - Castleberry is the sweetest woman ever and is so willing to help, but her teaching style just didn't work for me. Yes, she has high ratings, but that is only because she gives extra credit. She talks really fast and explains everything, but she explains concepts with unnecessary in-depth explanations that are only necessary if you are going into OChem or something. She is so sweet, but I was so confused with her teaching style. Also, she always says her reviews are harder than the test, but her tests are ALWAYS harder than the review.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:1301-H1 - GREATEST PROFESSOR EVER!!! This was by far my favorite class this semester and it was all thanks to Dr. Castleberry. If you took AP chemistry in high school and did well, this class should be a breeze. Her quizzes were online, so you could use friends, notes, and the internet. They were the more conceptual questions and could be rather difficult, but you get 3 tries to take the quiz. The tests were amazing because they were all just calculations and the more mathematical side of the class. Even if you didn't know how to approach a problem, she is willing to give you a hint if you ask. The homework is smartwork and was the only bad part about this class. She started out every class with a meme and gave so much extra credit it was nearly ridiculous. On a personal level, it was vehemently clear she cared for us all and wanted us to enjoy the class. As a chemistry major, I will do everything I can to take as many of her classes as I can.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301-H1 - This was her first semester teaching the honors section of 1301, but she did a fantastic job! She is very good at explaining the material, and gives a ton of extra credit (that can be applied to anything...even tests). The homework was through Smartwork and (from what I've heard) took less time than OWL; however, Smartwork questions can be tough at times. Her tests were very fair. She gave us equation sheets that we could write whatever we wanted on, but her honors section tests require more application than normal chem classes. Overall great teacher, and I'm taking her honors class again for 1302  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - Dr. Castleberry is truly an amazing professor. Additionally, she is an amazing person, who I would encourage you to get to know, if you take her class. Her exams were very straight forward. She gives a practice exam for each exam, which I found very helpful in determining what I needed to focus on the most. The exams were mostly multiple choice with usually 2 short answer questions at the end, which were always "big topic" question that involved calculations. The homework is Mastering Chemistry, which is very helpful and can raise your grade significantly. She offers loads of extra credit, through in-class participation. That said, you do have to study and work hard, but if you do all of these things, you will walk out with an A and a new friend.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2017-05-25

Comments:1301 - I took this class to fulfill a science credit. She's a great person and can be entertaining and always wants you to come to office hours, but as a professor, she can get overly excited and rush through her slides and teaching. Always take notes and pay attention, or at least take pictures of her slides. She gives out extra-credit like it's leftover halloween candy on clearance- meaning all the time for little effort. She uses LC which, if you do all the in class LC questions, she adds those points to your grades which is sweet. She also uses mastering so stay on top of that. She's popular for her extra credit tendencies, so if you like that, go for it. However, I think I expected a better professor when I signed up for her class. She's not bad by any means, just..probably wouldn't take again.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2017-04-12

Comments:1301 - Very nice professor. She always tries to make the class fun with chem jokes. Also she gives lots of opportunities for students to succeed like extra credit with learning catalytics. If you need help in chem she is available and there's SI sessions too.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2017-01-06

Comments:1301 - Great teacher. Maybe gives too much extra credit but if you read the book, take your time on the mastering chem (which means actually learning what you are doing) and study hard you can get the A.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2017-01-05

Comments:1310 - We took tons of notes every class period. She posts the powerpoints she will teach on before each class, so you don't have to worry about writing and not listening. For the most part, she gives enough examples, and if the examples in class are not enough, she provides plenty of extra practice problems. She will also work through anything you don't understand during her office hours. I found that she will often explain things better during her office hours than in class (maybe it was just that I was hearing it for a second time). She does care about her students, and she will spend as much time as is necessary to help you understand the concepts. People said her tests were really hard, or that the practice tests were not hard enough, but I didn't think tests were that hard. If you understand the basic concepts of the materials and practice, tests should be relatively easy. She offers tons of extra credit on tests and on Mastering Chemistry. Mastering Chemistry takes time, but sometimes it can help you identify what you don't understand, so looking up the answers on google isn't a good idea unless you plan to try to understand it later. She is also willing to help you with the Mastering. The Mastering also has extra credit. Your grade is not something you have to worry about with Castleberry. Some people don't think she teaches well. I thought she taught just fine. In general, I would recommend her; however, I would definitely take her if you had a good chem teacher in HS or if you took AP chem and just need the credit/review or something.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2016-12-18

Comments:1301 - She is definitely only popular for the extra credit she hands out. Personally did not feel like she was good at teaching due to the immense amount of notes we were drowned in each class. If chemistry is not a strong suit for you I would not recommend taking her due to the fact you don't learn much in this course.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2016-12-13

Comments:1302 - She's probably the nicest teacher I've ever had, but if you really want to learn for a future test like the MCAT I wouldn't recommend her. I found her practice test reviews very misleading and MUCH easier than the actual.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2016-12-09

Comments:CHE1301 - Castleberry is the best! She gives almost 10 full bonus points on everyone of her tests. The tests are not exactly a breeze, but they are very manageable. You have to do mastering chemistry every week which doesn't even help you with the tests and is just a complete waste of time, but in the end it adds to your overall grade. As far as teaching ability goes, I would rate Castleberry very high solely because she creates fun ways for you to remember things. I think that if you are taking higher chemistry classes you might struggle a bit more than other students if you had previously taken Castleberry. Castleberry is very generous about her grades and while thats a greats GPA booster it isn't so good for the long run. If you want a manageable chemistry course take Castleberry.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2016-12-09

Comments:1301/1302 - The only reason Castleberry is so popular is because she hands out extra credit like its candy. Other than that, I don't find her a very good teacher. You spend all of class taking down a copious amount of notes. (its to the point where you don't even know what you're writing anymore because you spend so much time trying to make sure you get all the notes down). I passed 1301 with an A (100+%), with very little studying but struggled to do the same with 1302. I realize that I shouldn't rely on not studying for a class to pass it, but if that's the case then I would've taken another teacher who actually would've taught me something. Eventually came out with a B in 1302, and that was because I stopped focusing on the redundant in-class notes and started teaching myself via masteringchem. Point is, you're going to spend a lot of time having to teach yourself in her class. Regardless, she's a nice lady, very funny and approachable but I think there's better teachers out there. Personally I think she just gives out so much extra credit to gain our approval for tenure.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2016-08-02

Comments:1302 - She is the BEST. Absolutely take her. I had Hodson first semester and made a B (barely) and never knew what was going on. I made an A in Castleberry's class and I actually ENJOYED every minute of it. She also spent countless hours with me (outside of office hours as well) to make sure I understood the material. All emails were answered in a timely manner as well. She has 9 total exams (10% each and every test has 10 questions...except the cumulative final) and Mastering for 10%. DO MASTERING. And do every extra credit problem. If you don't do well on the first few tests, don't stress. I didn't and then made 100s on the rest. The key is to know the material well enough that when she throws a tricky question, you can reason your way through it. Just take advantage of all the worksheets she posts online, go to office hours (even to say hi because she's super fun to talk to) and go to SI. Overall, I recommend her 100 percent.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:CHE 1302 - Castleberry is the best professor to take for chemistry. I retook CHE 1302 after a bad semester, and she seriously made me feel good at chemistry for the first time ever. I'm terrible at chemistry, yet I managed to make an A-, miracle! Her tests are easier because they're every chapter so there's not too much information to study compared to the professors who combine chapters for tests. Each test has 10 multiple choice questions, but she gives partial credit. If you go to each class and do the learning catalytics, you're basically guaranteed an extra 10 points on every test, so I got over 100 on quite a lot of tests. Do all the mastering chemistry, because it'll replace your lowest test score (my mastering average was a 107 so you can imagine how that helped replacing a 26 on a test). Her lectures are kind of boring and there's a lot of writing and copying off of her slides. She's so funny and nice and made chemistry actually interesting. Her final consists of two parts - 1)the last chapter you get to, and 2) cumulative portion. I highly recommend saving your mastering drop score for the cumulative final part so you can just skip out on taking that because it's pretty hard.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:CHE 1302 - Dr. Castleberry is who I recommend everybody to take for CHE 1301 or CHE 1302. She is a delight to be around, and is always high energy and in a good mood. Her class was a fair measure of how much one had been paying attention in lecture, and she frequently curved exams, which were multiple choice and short answer. With her method of replacing an exam with your Mastering Chemistry grade, it is nearly impossible to not get an A or B in her class. The Mastering Chemistry assignments are exhaustive, however, she has tips on how to solve the problems that are challenging in the Mastering Chemistry module--this is unheard of. The thing I liked most about her is how understanding she is: during the last week of classes she had handed us a review to work on, and after a while looked at us and said, "If you have another final to work on or work from another class to do--GO." Dr. Castleberry tries to make her class as doable as possible to give you time to worry about the classes whose instructors do not. And, to top it all off, you might learn or thing or two.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1302 - Dr. Castleberry is by far the best professor I have had during my time here at Baylor. She gave us an exam after every chapter which seems like a lot but its actually very helpful. She also replaces an exam grade with your mastering chem score. Her mastering chem is way less than other professors but it definitely still helps in the comprehension of the information. She's a very personable professor and so corny and funny. Her jokes are kind of poo sometimes but the way she tells them just makes you laugh regardless. I wish I could take her again honestly. I would TOTALLY suggest taking her!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1306 - Castleberry was, by far, my favorite professor this semester. She was always helpful when I went to her office hours. Once, I was freaking out about being a pre-med, so I just went over to her office and ranted. She sat there listening to me, occasionally offering bits of advice, for like 30 minutes. She is such an amazingly kind lady, on top of being such a great teacher. She is sometimes a bit scatterbrained, but if you ask a question during class, she won't make you feel like you're stupid for not knowing something (even if it is a stupid question). The workload for her class is about what you'd expect for chem 2 if you want an A, but I know people who only did the mastering and are getting a solid B or B+ in the class. She has 10 tests (including the final), which I personally liked because it was easy to bounce back from a bad test grade. She also offers a ton of extra credit. I HIGHLY recommend her!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - I loved Dr. Castleberry! She is so nice and willing to help. Wants her students to succeed. Very quirky, nerdy sense of humor. Do mastering chem for sure. It is a lot of work but replaces your lowest exam score. Make sure you attend class, easy extra points on test come from in class questions online. Study hard for her exams and take advantage of all extra credit opportunities (there's a ton).  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2016-01-10

Comments:Chem 1301 - Dr.Castleberry was a very sweet teacher that is always willing to help you out with whatever problems you are having. For this class she is very lenient and provides you with a lot of extra credit because she knows that it is most likely your first semester or you are only taking chem because it is a requirement for your major. However, do not think that everything is great and the class is easy because of the extra credit. Take the notes in class that she provides and study them so that you can do well on her exams instead of depending on that extra credit. She is a great teacher with a lot of knowledge and a positive attitude, so please take advantage of her knowledge and learn about chemistry as much as you can with her. She can provide a great foundation for you if you actually try and talk to her, so please do not be one of those students that slacks off and doesn't do anything because of that extra credit and hates her because you feel like she isn't pushing you enough. Ask questions and ask for more information!! She is a fantastic resource  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:CHE 1301 - TAKE DR. CASTLEBERRY!!! SHE CURVES ALL THE TESTS. At the end of the semester, my grade rose 8 points. She does give minuses though. If you're good at math, it's really easy to score well on the first three tests. You don't even need to study really if you took AP chemistry in high school or are good at math. However, the next two tests are all theory and no math so you need to study for those. She drops the lowest test grade and replaces it with Mastering Chemistry if you do it. (Anyone can make an A on that). It does take time though but it's easy to get a good grade.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - Castleberry is an entertaining professor who knows how to teach. She gives lots of opportunity to make an A, you just have to do the work during the semester. Anytime I wanted to meet she would work with my free time. There is an opportunity to drop your lowest test grade and replace it with the optional mastering chemistry homework. The optional homework is long and hard but worth it with lots of extra credit opportunities. This class made me fall in love with chemistry again.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - Dr. Castleberry is really cool, full of energy and gives a ton of extra credit but honestly she lacks the ability to teach and explain concepts but makes up for it with the amount of extra credit she gives. Seriously tho for a pre-med class she gives way too much extra credit. I'd recommend taking her if this is the only chem class you ever have to take, but if you plan on taking O-chem I'd advise a teacher who will make the concepts comprehensible and not just drown you in extra credit. take her if you want a good grade but don't care to learn. I think the reason she gives so much extra credit is because she wants tenure and she needs our good reviews  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 & 1302 - I took her for both semesters of Chemistry. While 1302 is must harder that 1301 there is still lots of bonus available. Mastering is a great test prep - in fact, I didn't even listen to the lectures or read the book, I just did Mastering. However, she is a very good professor, and is very kind and approachable. She does teach well, so if you do not already know the material (like I did), pay attention, but otherwise it should be a breeze. Her and Hodgson are the best two to choose from for the Chem dept.!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1302 - Dr. Castleberry is the best chemistry professor at baylor. The tests are hard and I was failing until finals week because she gives you a big curve. Try to read the chapters with tro and do some exercises. I had a 50 average and came out with a 71. She is very witty. She understands how difficult general chemistry is and tries to let students go on with their next classes.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:CHE 1301 - Dr. Castleberry is easily the best Chemistry professor at Baylor!! TAKE HER!!! her grading policy is very fair and easy in my opinion. She's very knowledgeable in the field of chemistry and she makes the class very fun and interactive. She loves Harry Potter and will reference them in her lecture sometimes  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - If you're looking for an easy A, take her, but if you're looking to learn... Dr. Castleberry posts all her lectures online and so you rarely ever have to take notes. Most of the time in class, you'll be release early because all she does is read through the slides and have you do LearningCatalyst which counts for extra credit points. Make sure you do MasteringChem, not only will it help you, it will also be used for extra credit and a replacement test grade. You'll learn more from doing MasteringChem then listening to Dr. Castleberry's lecture. Dr. Castleberry's test are very straightforward and easy as long as you keep up with MasteringChem. She sometimes post "review" which is somewhat similar to the test. She drops your lowest test grade and replaces another one with your MasterngChem grade. For MasteringChem you can get over 100, so make sure you do all the extra credit, it helps a lot. I got a 130 on MasteringChem which boosted my average in Chem to a 99. Overall, Castleberry is a very nice professor who's willing to help if you go talk to her in person and is one of the better Intro to Chem professor.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - Easiest class I have ever taken, but only because she replaces a test grade with Mastering Chem (which you can get up to a 100 on) and drops another test. Her tests are actually really difficult and her "reviews" are terrible. If you want to learn the information, DO NOT TAKE HER. I can not tell you one thing I learned in her class.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1302 - when i registered for chem 2, i chose dr. castleberry intentionally because she had such an awesome review on bubooks. this has been the most frustrating class i've taken at baylor thus far. she has lectures that are dry, but that's not the problem. at the beginning of the semester, she would have about 10 minutes of lecture, and the rest of class was working on learning catalytic problems. i had to self teach everything because her class would basically be doing a lot of practice problems-- which i dont have a problem with, except the fact that i can also do practice problems at home. at the beginning of the year, she talked about how she was good at answering emails. i sent her 6 emails over the course of 3 weeks about different things, she didn't respond to any except the last one because i ended up listing every question from the previous emails into one giant paragraph and titled the subject line: "PLEASE READ ASAP". she has a lot of students this semester, so i do understand she couldnt grade exams as quickly as we would like, but there was one point where we had taken the third test and we didnt know what we had scored on the second exam. because theres one drop grade, knowing how we do on tests is crucial in knowing how to divide time for tests, especially if it's a hell week with multiple exams. i haven't gotten to look at my 2 or 3rd exam. probably never will. she has mastering assignments which don't take too long, as long as you know the material. the mastering wasn't difficult at all, they helped me prepare for the tests, actually. there are three exams, and a two part final. the lowest test grade is replaced with the mastering average-- awesome bc my mastering average is like 120. overall, class wasn't super difficult. felt like we did a lot of busy work in class. she's very sweet, but also very disorganized. i would not take her again.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:CHEM 1301 - Concerning Castleberry, she is a really great teacher. I really enjoyed her class, because she made it entertaining. Concerning the class itself, there are a lot of mastering assignments, but it is FILLED with extra credit, so it's almost impossible to get a bad grade on Mastering, unless you just don't do it. There are 5 tests and a final. The last test is taken at the same time with the final. I personally thought the tests were fair; it included conceptual and math problems. She tends to give a review that is 95% close to how the test is. She drops your lowest test grade and replaces your second lowest with your Mastering grade (hence why you should do Mastering), and this INCLUDES THE FINAL! The only thing I would say about Castleberry is that some subjects in CHEM 1 are her weaker ones, so it might be harder for her to relay her knowledge on it. Just like any other science course, you're going to have to try.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - This class was an easy A. As long as you pass the tests and complete the extremely long Mastering Chemistry assignments she assigns, you should have no problem passing the class with an A. However, if you actually want to learn and absorb information, I wouldn't recommend this class. The amount of extra credit and homework she throws at you should be more than enough to keep your grade afloat.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1302 - I loved Castleberry!!!! She was an amazing professor and definitely was the most understanding and most helpful I have ever had the opportunity of having as a science professor. Just make sure you put in a decent amount of time for the mastering chemistry hw assignments and exams. I RECOMMEND HER!!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1302 - Dr. Castleberry is the bomb.com! She was an enthusiastic, nerdy professor that loved chemistry so much. I liked how every lecture powerpoint began with some chemistry or Harry Potter meme. She would also make chemistry jokes about her fellow chem colleagues or the SI instructor. She made my 8am worth going to. She made chemistry seem fun to me (unfortunately I didn't have enough motivation to do so). She assigns Mastering Chemistry assignments, and for the love of acids, do NOT procrastinate on those! They are extremely long yet amazingly helpful; I believe they count as 10% of the grade. Other than that there were a few "homework" assignments here and there, but nothing big. Also, take a laptop or cell phone to class. From there you do Learning Catalytics, which are the bonus points you earn for your exams. There are 4 exams (the 4th is included in the final exam). Some include multiple choice, but all pretty much have free response questions. Know your stuff and your ICE tables! I didn't get to go to her office hours, but in class she seemed really helpful and cared about your knowledge of chemistry. She is an easy A; unfortunately I received a C because I procrastinated on the Mastering Chemistry and I didn't put enough effort into this course. Overall, I recommend Castleberry: she is intelligent, helpful, and funny!  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:1302 - I like this woman. You have to bear with her when she teaches because the lectures are a drag, but she really wants her students to succeed. It is also obvious that she is still finding her own way of teaching the course therefore some strategies are better than others. Give her alot of feedback and go to her office, unlike I did, and you will do well in the course.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:CHE 1302 - Dr. Castleberry is a great professor. She is extremely enthusiastic about the content, and she knows her stuff. She starts every lecture which a meme, but she's not one of those try-to-fit-in-with-the-students-but-fail-miserably professors; she's actually cool (plus, she races cars... how is that not cool?). The course consists of 4 exams and a final, all equally weighted, although the 4th exam and the final are both taken during the final exam slot. Our first test was multiple choice, and the others were multiple choice for the conceptual stuff and free response for the problems. Definitely focus on the problems, as they are weighted the most. I never found the exams to be too difficult, mainly because she gives lots of partial credit. The Mastering is loaded with extra credit (I made a 150% on one of the assignments) and she has a lot of other extra credit built into the class as well. Overall, Dr. Castleberry is great and I would highly recommend her. Though the class is easy, I still feel like I learned enough to prepare me for chemistry classes in the future.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1302 - You are doing yourself a disservice if you don't take Castleberry. Best.Professor.Ever. Wish I could have taken 1301 with her. She is a "no-tricks" kind of teacher who will always let you know what she's expecting. She gives great reviews before each exam and gives partial credit for everything. Also, there is TONS of extra credit offered. I'm not the best at chem (I actually failed this same class with McGrath-first class I've failed in my life), but she helped me understand everything. You will walk into every test feeling confident! Take her!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Chem II - Defiantly take her! Literally the only science professor at Baylor that has a personality!! She is super helpful and a joy to have as a professor. I have her class at 8am and she can actually keep me awake during the class.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:Chem II - I love Dr. Castleberry. The best part of her class is her enthusiasm. She really loves to teach and loves the material she's teaching. She is incredibly friendly but also expects you to work hard. Quizzes were a piece of cake and the tests were not bad at all. I studied for two days before each test (read my notes, book, and any work we did in class) and I was fine. MasteringChem assignments are done about 2x/month and are VERY long. She is in her office a lot and fun to visit with. I got super sick for about a week and I knocked on the door to her office to let her know I was not going to be able to make it to the test or even study for it because I was so sick. I opened my mouth to talk and she told me to get out of her office and to not come to class for a week. She didn't even want a doctor's note. She gave me a full week after I got better to study and gave me extra time to take the test. If you are having one of those crazy weeks with a test in every class, go to her and see if you can do anything. Castleberry gave two extra credit assignments that added up to *10%* onto a test grade. So I had a test that was over a 100% grade. She puts powerpoints online that are not filled in. I took notes in a notebook but most people used a laptop because she goes thru slides (and also projected sheets that she wrote on) so fast. Definitely don't get behind on notes. Dr. Castleberry is a totally passionate nerd and I love it. She is my favorite professor at Baylor and I highly recommend anyone to take her.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1300 - I absolutely loved Dr. Castleberry! She is an excellent professor. She does assign a TON of OWL assignments, but always gives you plenty of time to finish them.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2013-08-02

Comments:1302 - Dr. Castleberry is awesome! Getting an A in her class is NOT HARD! Your grade is made of 3 tests and a 2-part final, with each counting as 20% but the lowest is dropped. Mastering is 10% and quizzes the other 10%. She offers A LOT of extra credit. I never paid attention in class or studied for the quizzes. But thanks to the clicker extra credit I always got at least a B on the weekly quiz. I also never studied for a test and got As and Bs on all of them just from random guessing. So if you're looking for an easy teacher and an easy A, Dr. Castleberry is the way to go! However, I would suggest you actually try because if you're like me and going on to O-chem, I don't have much chem background because I didn't learn much in intro.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1300 - Castleberry is unlike most teachers that exist at Baylor University. She honestly cares if you learn your material or not. She's hilarious and witty, plus she's a Redditor! Internet meme enthusiasts, rejoice! Homework is done via a paid Chem program called OWL. It's worth like 10 or 15 of the grade. OWL sucks. If you're not a note taker like I am, you will love and hate OWL. You'll love OWL because you will KNOW all that you need to know if you take your time will all the problems. You'll hate OWL because there are HUNDREDS of problems. End of chapter analysis assignments are a boon. 80 questions with 10 sub-questions in several single questions? LUL NOPE. You will likely find yourself clicking in random answers at the last minute hoping to get as many points as possible like I was. Go into this class knowing it has a workload that requires a lot of your time. Castleberry is awesome, yes, but the homework is not as easy going as her! There are quizzes every week there's not a test, minus the last week or special occasions. Make sure you study your notes! OH, and attend as many classes as possible. Clicker points are added to your quiz grade! 1 clicker point = 10 points on a quiz. It's very easy to find yourself in a position where you've made 170 points on a quiz. Tests were tougher, but relatively simple. Castleberry will usually answer ONE question you may have on the test, which really helps retain knowledge for the final. You definitely learn better under pressure! The tests are also relatively simple, however, there are a few questions on the exam that will attempt to trip you up. Watch out for the minute details! You usually will have more time than necessary to complete the exam! Also, her third exam is her hardest! Learn your stoichiometry and you should do fine! The final will be half comprehensive and half final unit. She drops (or possibly replaces) the lowest test grade. The SI wasn't the best, he would more often than not make mistakes explaining the material. I liked the guy but I only attended a couple sessions and just relied on OWL to learn. Oh, and the SI times were TERRIBLE. "Class on T-Thurs? Better have SI on Thurs and Sun!" Where's the logic in that? Anyways. Castleberry is your best choice when it comes to Chem at Baylor. She cares if you learn the material for sure (and you will learn it!). All in all, this class isn't an easy A, but you WILL have a chance to earn it or at least get close. Definitely recommend her!  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1300 - Loved this professor!!! She is so funny and her class was really easy for me! She gives you tons of extra credit on your quizzes! You take 5 tests and drops one! If I had to take another chem class I would definitely take castleberry again! Y'all should take her! She's wonderful!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1302 - She is so dorky and funny! Her class is basically copying notes she writes for us and they follow along to her powerpoints. She assigns mastering chem every few weeks and gives extra credit for perfect attendance. Her tests are pretty difficult though so study hard for those, and her weekly quizzes. I would definitely recommend Dr. Castleberry, she's awesome!  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:1300 - Dr. Castleberry is probably my favorite professor at Baylor. She is the definition of quirky and is in love with science. HOW TO SUCCEED: bring your laptop every day. She moves thru her slides FAST. Just write down additional notes/answers in the comments section of the power point and review those for study. Don't stress about OWL homework... i finished with an A+ in the class and did about 90% of OWL. Her tests are very easy haha just make sure you fill out the practice exams and that's basically what the tests are like! I HIGHLY recommend taking her because not only is her class simple if you study, but I have legitimately learned a lot.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1302 - TAKE HER!!! I would have gotten an A in her class if I studied better for her final and I slacked off a little at the end of the year. Chemistry 1302 isn't mandatory for my major, but I am taking her class because I enjoyed it so much! She is the nicest person I have ever met and is hilarious in class! If you have any questions, just email her, and she emails back within like 5 minutes.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:Intro to Chem - Mrs. Castleberry is amazing! she is very very helpful and deffinatley wants to make sure that her students succeed. If you do not understand something go to her office hours immediatley to clear it up. Her tests are usually around 20 questions and multiple choice. Not hard at all. The Online assignments can replace a test grade if you do poorly on one of her 4 tests. So do them. I did not have to take the final because I got A's on the first three tests. Very good teacher!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Chemistry 1300 - Castleberry is the most precious woman on the planet. She is super sweet and really helpful if you go to her office hours and she is adorably nerdy in class. Her lectures are all on powerpoints that she posts on Blackboard after class, which is convenient because she zooms through the powerpoints in 30 minutes or less and they are all 30+ slides of information. Her tests aren't really that hard, it's just that her reviews are 4-15 pages long and cover so much material that you don't focus on the actual 3 or 4 things that she actually puts on her tests (they're only 25 questions, after all). Definitely do the OWLS and they will boost your grade. She's also great about curving, extra credit opportunities and extending deadlines. I would recommend taking her to anyone.  - Grade In Class:A
