Comments:2302 - This man is a god. If you ever have the opportunity to take him for any course at Baylor, you should definitely take it! He teaches very effectively and doesn't drag on with boring lectures. He's also very helpful outside of class and genuinely cares if his students do well. I never wanted to miss a class with him! I was genuinely excited to show up to his class every day.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:PPS 4310-Philanthropy - This class was the best class I've ever taken at Baylor. Dr. Hogue is incredible and the best professor for this class. He is beyond helpful and understanding and really makes an effort to get to know everyone. This class is mainly filled with USchol or Business Fellow majors filling their capstone requirement. But it was really an incredible experience getting to learn about nonprofits, how they function, what makes one successful, and how the grant writing process works. No matter what your major is, this class could benefit you. Along with several of the components of the organization profiles, you have 7 readings and discussion points. The readings were all very interesting and pretty simple. The workload isn't bad at all. Each of the profiles can take awhile and you do have do a site visit or Skype call when you narrow the list down to 10 organizations. But nothing is unmanageable at all. I cannot recommend this class enough, PLEASE take it if you get a chance!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:FYS 1399 - Andy is a nice and funny guy, but his grading is pretty subjective. He grades on "participation" which is usually not a problem for me, except in this class. My participation grade was never a 25/25 even though I was always in the class discussions. Other than the grading, I learned a lot from his class.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:FYS 1399 - Dr. Hogue is honestly the kindest guy. He genuinely cares about his students inside of the classroom and out, and is very passionate about constitutional issues. He teaches in a way that is clear and always makes us feel welcome. There are short readings before class and online lectures (watch these at 1.5x speed) as well as group assignments in class. I highly highly recommend, literally everyone in our class loves Andy  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:FYS - Con Law - Dr. Hogue is a fantastic professor who\'s incredibly passionate about constitutional issues. You will learn a range of topics, and the arguments from every side. I have no idea where he stands on most issues, which is how it should be! There\'s an average amount of coursework to do, which consists mostly of readings and (shorter) papers in the form of group assignments. I haven\'t yet taken his Philanthropy Course, but want to before I graduate. If you get the chance to take a class with him, do it.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:PSC 2302 - TAKE Andy Hogue!!! Best lecturer I have had at Baylor! He really stimulated my thinking about a class I was not sure I would like because I am a science major. Now this class is one of my favorite classes I have taken at Baylor. He presents the information in a way where you can fully understand what is going on. The workload is not bad at all. He has online lecturers for you to watch so when you get to class he can discuss them. Quizzes almost everyday so do the assigned readings! GREAT Professor!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:PSC 2302 - I cannot recommend Andy enough! TAKE HIM. The class was a breeze and I feel like I've actually learned something valuable by taking it. Not in an obnoxious way, but it really helped me realize how I feel on issues and why others feel differently. Clicker quizzes every class over readings - they are super straight forward and easy if you just skim the assigned article really quick. Only a midterm and a final (which isn't cumulative, hollah) and they are 50 questions MC and super easy. ONLY downsides are that he sometimes assigns online lectures - but you can just read the slides and be fine usually - and these things called law and society groups. Every Friday you don't have class and you meet with your group of 10 people and write up a report to send to his TA James. Keep your group accountable and use Google Docs and you'll be fine! Take Andy, he rocks.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:PSC 2302 - Dr. Hogue is a great professor -- no complaints really, except that he is a little too passionate about Political Science. If you are a Poli Sci major or are just passionate about the subject, take him. If you are dreading taking this class, don't take him. There is a lot of assigned reading and he makes you meet in ~10 person groups to discuss the topics he covers. The midterm is easy, but the final is much harder, although it isn't cumulative. Overall, he is a great professor, but if you are particularly dreading the class, try to avoid him.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2302 - TAKE ANDY HOGUE I repeats TAKE ANDY HOGUE. He is the best professor in Poly Sci, probably at Baylor and was one of my all-time favorites. The work load is light but substantial, he makes class SO interesting, and understands what students need.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2302 - BEST POLI SCI offered at BAYLOR! he gave us 5 question quizzes everyday, two mimi exams in the beginning of the semester, one mid term, final, and met in groups one a week. SUCH AN EASY CLASS! if you get anything lower than a B you need to go to CHURCH  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:2302 - Very interesting teacher and philosophy. Doesn't make you memorize every detail like of every court case like most teachers. One of my favorite teachers at Baylor. Only grades are a midterm, final and daily quizzes. Daily quizzes and tests are not hard. He occasionally has "Youtube sessions" during classes when the students are looking tired. So he is pretty awesome.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2302 - Such an awesome person. He really cares about students too! There are quizzes almost everyday over the readings he posts, but they are so easy!! I rarely read for the class, and still made an A. He gives reviews for exams which are multiple choice. The class was really simple and very straight forward. TAKE HIM!!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2302 - Dr. Hogue is one of Baylor's premiere Professors. I believe he is everything a student is looking for at Baylor. He is easy, but yet highly interesting. It's hard to walk away from this class unchanged from his lectures and in class discussions. He will usually always show a brief YouTube video clip in the middle of class to take a break from lecturing. His tests are straight from the power points and the in class quizzes. He cuts down on a lot of the out of class reading. When I entered his class I wasn't expecting to learn much, but I've walked away more equipped on answering complex issues on debates surrounding America's current issues today. Also, Dr. Hogue is a fun and entertaining professor, he will not disappoint.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:PSC 2302 - Andy Hogue is AWESOME in every way! He barely assigns any reading (and honestly, I never did it and still got an A), and over-explains the material. He definitely knows what he talks about and he loves meeting with his students. He makes the class interesting (we watched YouTube vids in class to break the monotony) and I think we all got something out of his class. I just love him. He's FANTASTIC. TAKE HIM!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2302 - Let me start out by saying that Dr. Hogue changes his class every semester. What you get from him is different from taking him the semester before or a year before that. And having said that, I know a lot of people who have enjoyed taking his class. He has a genuine passion for what he teaches, which is great when your prof can take a required class and make it interesting. When I took him, you had to do a lot of reading over things like the Constitution, court cases, the Federalist papers, etc. The homework really wasn't too bad though because he assigned it in reasonable pieces. The tests were all multiple choice and if he accidentally put a weird question in, he would throw it out after grading and award everyone the points for that Q. We also had 5-question clicker quizzes once or twice a week and they were always over the reading homeworks. Overall, I really enjoyed the class and if I were a poly sci major, I'd try to look for another class to take with him.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2302 - Dr. Hogue is a wonderful professor. He makes political science SO interesting. In fact, I was on the cusp of changing my major, and after taking his class, I did change it to political science. He is so passionate about the subject and really knows what he's talking about. (He has a PhD in Poli Sci). He gives little breaks throughout the class to watch YouTube videos so we don't just tune him out the whole time. His tests are fairly easy, but you do have to study. He gives you all the material - a lot of it is just court cases. Basically, if you have the chance, TAKE HOGUE.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2302 - In my opinion Professor Hogue is a horrible teacher. He mostly goes straight off of his own powerpoints everyday. His grading system is pretty unfair. You only have 3 grades the whole semester which are all after the drop date, so if you dont do well on the first test you will pretty much get a bad grade in the class. He does offer 3 extra credits only worth up to 5 points, which he rarely gives his students full credit on them. I would recommend not to take him!  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:2302 - Dr. Hogue is a great professor. The class is really interesting and the workload isn't too bad. He gave lots of extra credit opportunities. I wasn't surprised by the material on the tests, it was basically the same material he lectured on in class. I didn't do very much of the reading, and still did well in the class, but I can see how the readings can help with understanding the material. Since Baylor requires this class, at leasat take a great and interesting professor like Dr. Hogue.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2302 - Loved Dr. Hogue. He knew his stuff and explained the material in a manner that made everything easy to understand. He does require reading for every class, but it's beneficial. I always just skimmed. He gives extra credit opportunities and review sessions for some exams. Take good detailed notes! Highly recommend Dr. Hogue!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2302 - I took this course because it was a requirement and I expected to hate it, as I'm very averse to politics. But Dr. Hogue was my favorite teacher during the whole semester. He knew what he was talking about and never had times where he lost his train of thought. He did surprisingly well in learning most of the names of our class of over 100 people. We had 4 tests total and one quiz a week, but if you did the reading (which got a bit boring and tedious), you'd be fine. He offered review sessions before every test, which were immensely helpful.Tests had 50 questions, quizzes had 5. The tests weren't very hard; he put everything he lectured about into his powerpoint and gave us time to take notes, and the tests were basically just over everything he lectured about- not surprise excerpts from the reading. He even had a few polls throughout the class about, "Should we have class outside today?" and after our 3rd test, he gave us the poll, "Should the final be cumulative?" We unanimously said no, so our final was just over the material from test 3 to test 4. He's a really good, interesting teacher and I enjoyed the class way more than I thought I would.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2302 - Dr. Hogue is a REALLY nice guy and since PoliSci is a requirement, I'm glad I got him. There is a significant amount of reading but that's expected. There were 4 multiple choice tests, including the final. (Originally it was meant to be cumulative but he changed that since "the class performed so well on the other tests.") Tests are 85% straight from the Powerpoint notes & 15% from the reading. I go agree with the person below me that quizzes count for too much b/c I made an A on every test but came out with a B+ overall. There were 2 extra cred opps, though. All in all, great guy. I'd take him again.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:2302 - Dr. Hogue takes his job very seriously. He's extremely nice and I like him as a person, but I do not recommend his class. He assigns at least an hour's worth of reading every night for pop quizzes that are worth too much of your final grade. For the first two weeks of the semester he didn't begin teaching but talked about how he was going to teach. He prides himself in teaching for the purpose that we remember the material ten years from now. That's great, but impractical for a basic level university requirement, especially since the class covered hundreds of court cases. In a class of 100+ students, it's hard to have memorable class discussions. The tests are very detailed, as he considers each case he talks about or includes in the reading as vitally important. I put hours upon hours of work into this class only to get a B+. For any other class, I could have easily gotten an A with that much work. Dr. Hogue is a great guy, but you should take a different professor.  - Grade In Class:B+
