Comments:2310 - He's super fun and you almost always play a game to start the class. Easy workload, the tests aren't too bad, but the final was a little tricky so just take a little more time to study.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3305 (Hispanic Lit) - I loved taking this class. Because it was a Tuesday/Thursday class, it was super long imo, but after discussing the particular story or poem we were covering at that moment, the time just sort of flew by. He does encourage you to only speak Spanish in class and corrects you if you make a mistake, but it's not in a harsh or condescending way at all. His syllabus gives you every story (which could be looked up online) and for hw, you had to answer a few questions, all of which he posted on Canvas for the entire semester, which is a plus if for some reason you need to work ahead. You have hw almost every night, but he did give us a few nights off and a few other nights were dedicated to just editing your essay. The terms quizzes were super easy. He doesn't give you a word bank to match with the definitions, so you have to fill in the blank, but I mean, once you familiarize yourself with the handful of terms, I almost guarantee you'll ace it. The tests were fair (many multiple choice questions and a short answer at the end), but imo, we discussed the stories/poems in class in such depth that it's almost hard to not do well unless you just don't pay attention. Besides that, we even played games to help familiarize with the specific details of the content, so I feel like you can't go wrong with Dr. Silverstein. 100% would recommend.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:SPA 2320 - Classes usually started with a game in Spanish. It was usually a good way to know what you knew and review vocab/grammar. Grammar concepts are taught clearly, and he is available to help you further if you need it. We also usually engaged in a relaxed discussion over what we read the night before. Class in general is pretty relaxed with plenty of opportunities to get bonus points on quizzes. Tests are consistent in their difficulty and format; they are easy to study for and to succeed in. Would definitely recommend.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:SPA 3305 - Dr. Silverstein is a very relaxed professor. The class starts with a game to warm our brains up in Spanish, and it is a nice way to start class. Most of the time the homework was just reading and answering a few questions. One of my complaints with this class was that it was basically a literature class in Spanish, rather than a class that studied Spanish literature. Instead of reading the literature to identify themes and connections within Spanish literature and the history of the settings of the authors, we more just looked at surface level things like "what feeling does this poem convey" or "who stole the photograph", and never really dug into the context around it all. This does make the tests very easy, however, as you will definitely know what to expect for tests. The quizzes are very easy, as you just familiarize yourself with Spanish definitions. I found class a bit boring at times, but everyone in class was very tired since it was late in the afternoon. I appreciated how he gave us plenty of opportunity to meet with him about our essays, and actually gave helpful feedback on how to improve our writing. He does not grade writing very harshly, and definitely wants his students to succeed. I would recommend Dr. Silverstein!!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3305 - He is awesome!!! He makes learning Spanish Literature (which isn't the most fun subject) a lot of fun. He always has games for us to play to discuss the things that we read, and the homework isn't too long or hard either. The tests are fairly straightforward; multiple choice and writing a short essay at the end. He really wants you to do well in the class! TAKE HIM!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2320 - Take this man. Please. If you can get into his class, do it. Seriously. He cares about your learning and doesn't drown you in work. I hadn't taken Spanish in a year and I took a chance on taking 4th semester Spanish. I managed to pull out a B. Professor Silverstein is very helpful, easy to talk to, and very willing to explain things (in english) if necessary. You can even go in during office hours and go over tests and essays with him and he'll explain where you need work and will even give you mini-refresher lessons if you need it. He is also a very fun teacher. You'll enjoy his class a lot!  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:2320 - TAKE. SILVERSTEIN. He is the best professor at Baylor. I've been through quite a few professors by now, and so far he is the most helpful, understanding, and FUN. He rarely takes up hw for a grade, the quizzes are the easiest in the world, just make sure you know the title of reading and the main characters and theme, and you'll do just fine! The tests were so simple. I made 100%'s on every one, they come straight from the quizzes and the hw he assigns. He also gives a ton of extra credit throughout the semester by playing games (apples to apples, jeopardy, etc). I definitely recommend coming to class. I actually had FUN in Spanish class. I want to go to his class every tuesday and thursday.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:SPA 2320 - Sr. Silverstein is a great spanish professor- I would recommend taking him or Stanislaw for spanish. His class is easy with most days having games (apples to apples in spanish) or vocab crosswords. Had daily hw every night, but it was easy. He will email you a detailed list breaking down exactly what will be on the exams. Exams are decent- (multiple choice, write in & short essay), with the second one (poetry) usually being the most difficult. He can be quiet sometimes, but overall it's an easy Spanish class.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:2320 - Prof Silverstein is fantastic. As long as you do the reading and the homework his tests are pretty easy. He speaks slowly in class and if you need something clarified in English he's happy to do it. He is by far the best Spanish prof I've had at Baylor. He gives a few quizzes that really aren't that bad as long as you've paid attention and looked at the vocabulary. He tries to make class fun so he plays a lot of games to try and make things interesting while we learn. There is an oral exam portion but it's not that difficult. All in all, he's a wonderful prof and if you can get him, take his class. It's worth it.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:2320 - One of my favorite classes by far this semester! We had homework every day, but it is hardly ever taken for a grade. The tests are super easy if you study well and read the required material when it is assigned! I highly recommend Professor S!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2321 - I was expecting the class to be hard considering it is a Spanish class at Baylor, but Dr S made it really easy. We played a game almost every day, and he was really nice and patient with us. His tests were really easy and told us exactly what to study. The department requires professors to add an oral part to the final and an essay portion to the test but I think he grades leniently on those sections because they are required because it helps. If you need to take Spanish, you should definitely take him!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2320 - Professor Silverstein overall was a great teacher! We played games in class almost every day, so he kept the class fun. I was scared to take 2320 because I heard most of the classes were super hard but his class wasn't too bad! I would highly recommend taking his class.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2320 - One word: AWESOME! He makes this class so much fun. He teaches well. He covers everything you need to know for this class. He tells you what to study and how to study, which makes it even better. He is probably the best and the easiest spanish professor at Baylor. He knows what he is doing. He is funny, smart, nice, and very understanding. He will always be there to help you if you need him. Homework is so easy and never picked up. Quizzes and Tests are simple too. If you just study a little bit the night before you should be fine. I really liked him and I would take him again if I could. He is just great. Take him! He will make this class amazing for you.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2320 - This is the first spanish class I'll make an A in. Senor Silverstein is really nice, funny, and pretty chill. He assigned homework, but never took it up unless it was a paper. Mostly just class discussions having to do with the homework. Two tests, a final, two papers, and two quizzes. They were all pretty easy. The poetry test was hard, but he let us do corrections to earn half points back to the exam. If you don't understand something in spanish, he'll explain in english. Take Senor S. He's really cool.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2320 - I really enjoyed my class with Dr. Silverstein. He is a younger man, and is extremely helpful and understanding with his students. There were times where I slept through a class or knew in advance that I would be missing a class, and he changed the date of my assignment in order to assist me. I didn't particularly enjoy the subject material for the class as it involved a lot of theater and poetry, but he does a great job of integrating fun methods of learning (i.e. Jeopardy, Apples to Apples, etc.) . He does require reading assignments at the end of each class, but he rarely, if ever, will actually collect the assignments. I would recommend Silverstein as a professor. I was extremely worried about how well I would be able to do with Spanish at Baylor, but Silverstein really helped me to transition smoothly. If you are diligent to do the work (even though it may not ever be collected) and actually study for the tests, you should be able to get a good grade in the class.   - Grade In Class:A
