Comments:2310 - Genuinely such an easy and entertaining class. Lot of group discussions but nothing that will make you not want to come to class. Her assignments are pretty easy, and her weekly quizzes are simple as long as you're present. She's a sweet soul with such a nice and simple english class. Will gladly recommend her to anyone!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2310 - I loved Dr. Powell's class! She is very enthusiastic and loves to teach. She is super nice and will always ask students how they are doing. She really wants all her students to succeed and gives you all the resources to do so. This class is an easy A if you just pay attention in class and do the assignments. The workload was very light outside of class and all the quizzes were pretty simple if you just pay attention.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2310 - The BEST professor I've had at Baylor so far. She is very enthusiastic and passionate, which I love. If you do the work and put in the effort, you will get an A. There are weekly quizzes and discussion boards about what we discussed in class. Only a midterm, essay, and final.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2310 - Professor Powell is one of the best professors I've had at Baylor. As long as you come to class and put in the effort it is easy to get a good grade. She has quizzes every Friday but the answers are given in class. She is extremely kind and understanding and teaches the material very well. Take her!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2310 - Dr. Powell is the BEST english teacher I have ever had at Baylor. Every week there is a discussion board post and a quiz. The only paper in this class was a character analysis around six pages. This class also had a midterm, a group powerpoint presentation, and a final. The class is super easy if you fill out the study guide that she provides each week. I loved how she made class interesting.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2310 - Dr. Powell was a great teacher this semester! The overall theme of this class is based off history. At first I was super thrown off by this and super bored, but as time goes on it really was not that bad. A discussion post and quiz per week is the usual work load. We were able to prepare for the essays for midterms and final in advance as well and bring it to the exam! Lots of extra credit opportunities.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2310 - Dr. Powell is AMAZING! The workload is not bad at all, a discussion post is due every week but it is minimal effort and takes very little time. There is also an in person quiz due at the end of every week, but she hands out notes over the specific content at the beginning of class and basically tells you what is on the quiz. While it is not the most interesting class, Dr. Powell is such a sweet lady and she is always willing to help. I did not pay much attention during class, I often spent it doing other work or shopping in all honesty yet I still maintained a good grade due to extra credit and easy assignments.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2310 - I always like to preface these with the fact that every student's perspective is different than others. And each one is all valid, now I would say this class is an EASY A if you just apply yourself. There are fill in the blank notes you take during class each day. You study those notes and read extra material posted for the quizzes each week. You complete a discussion post based on the readings once a week. You have a midterm and final that includes writing short essay and long essays along with multiple choice. You also have to do one essay and then the second one is a choice between an essay and project. Dr. Powell is really great with replying back to questions and always open to discussing conflicts! I had to take some of my quizzes after class due to attendance conflicts, and she was more than accommodating. The quizzes are easy - just read the material and look over notes. The tests are not a surprise as Dr. Powell gives you a comprehensive review. Overall, I would take Dr. Powell again! The subject was interesting and the class was not difficult at all.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2310 - I cannot say enough good things about this professor or this class. I was dreading this class at first, as I'm sure most people are. The content Is not engaging for most students, but Dr. Powell understood that and made her class as painless as possible. The workload consisted of one discussion board and one quiz a week, 2 essays, a midterm and a final.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:2310 - Dr. Powell was an amazing teacher, and the material was very engaging. There was one discussion post and quiz due each week but if you just did the reading and paid attention in class you would be well prepared. On top of that there was two papers, a midterm, and a final. Overall, Dr. Powell is a sweet lady and she keeps the class well organized. I would highly recommend taking her.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2310 - Dr. Powell is a true angel. This class is why I love english so much. She taught the information thoroughly with fill in the blank work and the quizzes every week were so easy if you paid attention. Her tests consist of multiple choice and two essay prompts. There were also two essays that we had to complete periodically. If you just listen in class and take notes then making a 100 on the test is so achievable!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:ENGL2310 - I loved Dr. Powell. She was incredibly sweet and helpful. I loved the way her class was organized (quiz and discussion every week, 3 exams, two essays, and extra credit opportunities). She did a great job despite COVID, and everything was very straight forward. If she ever made a mistake, she let us know and let us have the opportunity to fix it. She is what a professor should be! Highly recommend taking her.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - Dr. Powell is so sweet! She's really passionate about English and truly wants to help her students. She breaks up major assignments into little assignments to keep you on track, so literally just do the work and you'll likely do well in her class! I was nervous about taking her class because I don't like English, but she made the class fun and easy to accomplish. I highly recommend her!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1302 - Dr. Powell is a very nice lady with some extreme views that sometime slip out. If you are nice to you she will like you and be nice back. She is not a hard grader as most people received A's on most essays. I became a better writer because of this class. It's pretty laid back so she is a good choice.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1304 - I have NEVER in my life received below an A in an English class and I have NEVER received below an A on an English paper until I took Dr. Powell’s class. I honestly think she had a problem with me because I am a guy and she didn’t like that I questioned what she said. She is definitely one of those professors that will loose your papers and blame it on you. It happened to me twice. She is so forgetful it hurts. There are a million other better professors to take. She is very proud that she is a part time high school teacher and she mentions it a lot. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1304 - Professor Powell is a very sweet lady and is very helpful during her conferences. I am not good at English (I got a 2 on the AP lit exam) and am able to get an A in her class through her revising my drafts. all her daily grades are easy 100's if you participate or do what is needed by the next day. Also, an A in her class is 90, instead of 93.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1302 - Dr. Powell is a very nice person, but this wasn't my favorite class. I'm very good at English, but it seemed like there was a lot of busy work that we had to accomplish. (Also, she would divide us in color groups, which made me feel like a little kid instead of a college student.) Other than that though, Dr. Powell was so sweet! She was more than willing to help me if asked. She can be a little vague on what she wants, but once you've done a few essays, you'll know what she's expecting. There were a lot of quizzes and readings, but reading them isn't bad. Look at the essays though. She'll ask you about them. She had one test, but it was mainly essays. We had plenty of time to turn papers in because she wanted a page here and a paragraph there. It was a good way to keep us accountable. Anyway, she's a great person and I liked her, but there are some assignments that seem slightly unnecessary. Not a bad course though!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1302 - Dr. Powell is a fantastic teacher! I had a great experience with her. She has quizzes almost every class period, but they are easy, and she drops two/three at the end of the course. Although these quizzes are relatively easy, it is important to make sure you completely understand the materially being quizzed over or are just a good guesser. Also, we had to write four at-home essay and one in-class essay, but at least in my situation she was a fair grader. If you put in a significant amount of effort which was shown in the paper, she applauded that and gave you a good grade. She is willing to help her students with papers during her office hours- I went and highly recommend it-and she is extremely organized and efficient. The class sizes are small and intimidate but you truly don't need to pay much attention. She truly respects her students and offers to write recommendation letters for any students who need it at the end of the course or in the future.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:ENG 1302 - Professor Powell is awesome!!! I am planning on taking her for ENG 1304 but the time doesn't fit my schedule. Her teaching quality is excellent. I learned a lot from her class! The class has four essay, the percentage of the grade on the overall grade is always higher than the last one. she has a grammar quiz (sometimes the chapter quiz is embedded in the quiz), but she will have an extensive lecture over the grammar before each quiz. She grades very fairly and if your writing is good, she will give you a high grade. She always give personal feedback if you ask her questions about your essay. Overall, she is a very nice and patient professor who you should take for ENG 1302.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1304 - Dear future students looking for an English professor for 1304. Don't take professor Powell. I have heard great things about her for 1302. However, she is starkly different for the 1304 course. The workload that she imposed for this class is not worth it. If you have extra time to burn, take her class.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2017-04-18

Comments:1302 - Overall she is a good English teacher to have! Sometimes we're able to leave class early and most of the essays are broken up into sections for each class day so you don't have to write a long 5 page essay on the last day. She is a little strict on documentation and stupid stuff on the essays, but you can easily still make an A in this class.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2016-11-26

Comments:ENG 2304 - One of the easiest classes I've had at Baylor. So so so easy. I have to study really hard for the grades I get, but for this class I don't have to study too much as long as I pay attention in class and do the reading. She also tries to keep it interesting and is passionate about the literature she chooses. There is a LOT of group work for this class, so try to get in a good group if you can.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2015-04-30

Comments:1302 - Though she's nice, Dr. Powell's class can be a nuisance. Overall, she's a nice, older lady, but the class feels like a complete waste of time. Many times she doesn't have enough material to take up all of class or she rambles. Her essay's aren't terribly hard, but one time I went in for her office hours and she corrected my essay line by line and she still gave me a B (which made me a little angry). Do the busy work, show up (if you don't she'll ask you where you were), and you'll probably get an A. She also rounded my grade from an 89.6 up to an A, so I can't really be mad.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2015-01-09

Comments:ENG 1302 - Dr. Powell is the chillest prof I've had at Baylor. She doesn't ask much of you at all, mostly just to pay attention to what she goes over in class. Her papers were easy to write, and she gave a lot of freedom as to what we could write about. I got an A on all of my papers, and she doesn't grade vey hard. She's a nice lady and is willing to help you if you need it. I liked her a lot and wish I could have her for all of my english classes!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2014-07-07

Comments:Thinking & Writing - Dr.Powell is really laid back. Most of the course consists of grammar quizzes and essays that are not very hard. She does grade tediously so make sure you edit your papers well. I would take her again.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2014-02-05

Comments:1302 - I loved having Dr.Powell as a professor! She makes the class easy and fun. We had quizzes weekly but they are super easy and over only grammar things like commas and semicolons. You write a total of 4 or 5 essays and then the final is an in class essay. The essays are back to back, but she gives you PLENTY of time to write them. Toward the end of the semester she started making the quizzes a group effort so the lowest grade you could make was an 97. I would say the toughest thing about her is she is tough on grammar. It always killed me on the essays. But I would recommend her, she is super nice and you can text her questions and she will always reply. She does take attendance but if you just text her before class and say you're sick or not able to come, she will let you make up anything you missed. nice lady  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:ENG 1302 - Super Easy B. If you don't have time to work hard, just take her. She is a very nice and helpful person as well. 4 essays and the final exam is another essay. Her grading is not hard.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2013-11-13

Comments:1302 - Dr. Powell is a great teacher! The class on a day to day basis is super easy. We occasionally have quizzes in class, but if you get there ten minutes early to study for them, you will do fine! The essay topics are interesting and as long as you follow EXACTLY what the rubric says for each of them and take peer editing seriously, you should do well.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2013-01-13

Comments:1302 - Dr. Powell was alright, but I would recommend that you try avoiding her. There are easier and probably better English 1302 professors out there. She made a simple class more difficult than it needed to be. Her class is structured with 5 back to back essays and a departmental final which consists of writing an essay. She usually gives quizzes on ridiculous things. She probably gave like 5 quizzes just on commas. She counts off for the silliest things. As for the essays, she'll only give you A's if she likes what you have to say. Its kind of annoying because no matter how much time you spend on your essays, she always grades you down. Someone who tries less than you did might get a better grade. Her essays are also on hard topics. Overall, I would avoid her. Yeah, I got a B+, but I honestly feel like I got nothing useful out of the class.  - Grade In Class:B+
