Comments:HIS 13003 - Don't take this guy. On the very first day of class, the first thing he said was "some of you won't come back to the next class". First major red flag (at least since meeting him. The actual first red flags were the forty-page syllabus and the fact that he wrote the textbook.) Anyways, he definitely had attitude issues. Then, still on the first day, he was already assigning ungodly amounts of homework (including a two-hour podcast that he was on, in addition to readings. Due on the second day of class.) So, about twenty minutes into listening to that podcast I took his advice and dropped the class. It was a great decision.  - Grade In Class:DROP

Comments:HIS1300 - Never EVER take his class!!!!!! He is an arrogant know-it-all who doesn't have any teaching ability. There are quizzes in lockdown browser every week that are based on the readings. I never passed a single quiz. The tests are long and hard and be sure to NEVER ask him for help because he'll treat you like an idiot. Good luck if you take his class.  - Grade In Class:DROP

Comments:1310 - Do NOT take this class!! I don't know how his rating is as high as 63. He is a terrible professor. H e assigns tons and tons of reading from his book, makes students listen to his podcasts, and is the most unhelpful professor. He has weekly quizzes on lockdown with questions that are super specific. He picks on students all the time and quite frankly has a stick up his ass. He has a god complex and loves making students feel stupid. If you go up to him and ask for help he will give you very dry unhelpful answers like 'figure it out'. Most of the people in this class ended up dropping it. He needs to be fired, do not take him!!!!!!  - Grade In Class:F

Comments:HIS 1300 - So hear me out, Bracy Hill is such a nice guy and a very relatable person to relate to. However his content is way too much. When I took History 1300, it seemed interesting with learning about hunting, however his reading quizzes were way too specific and I had super bad grades. Because of this class,I absolutely could not do well in any of my other classes from this super hard class. I highly would NOT reccomend this professor as it isn't learning but physically draining.  - Grade In Class:DROP

Comments:Global Perspective - DO NOT TAKE HIM. He is a terrible teacher in terms of in class lectures. He does not seem to want to help his students whatsoever. He makes fun of students in class constantly and has little to no respect. The topic of his class was about hunting or something and was probably the most useless crap ever. The whole class revolves around reading his stupid book. He refuses to give us anything outside of class. When I came to class one day, he started class by taking roll and when he called my name, he decided to make fun of my haircut in front of everyone. I didn't care too much as his opinion doesn't mean anything, but really? Just overall a terrible professor and I don't know how he was hired.  - Grade In Class:DROP

Comments:HIS 4329 - Genuinely, the worst professor I've ever taken at Baylor. He is so unhelpful, so unfriendly, and so unwilling to work with you. His lectures are almost completely incoherent; he rambles with no end. As annoying as that is, he expects you to read more than 300 pages of reading a week. He assigns only three or four assignments for the whole semester, gives very few instructions, and is extremely nitpicky and persnickety. I am involved in a volunteer lobbying organization for the university that advocates for more federal funding coming our way and he refused to work with me when I had to miss class. He has bordered on rudeness when dealing with me multiple times. He is arrogant, a know-it-all, and even admitted to grading papers while drunk. Literally, whatever you do, don't take him. Ever. Ever. Ever.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1300 - run. don't walk. RUN. Bracy Hill is the worst professor I have ever had. He is on a power trip and takes pride in making students feel dumb. Even if you are a genius he will still make you feel dumb because he is so power hungry and being a teacher does not satisfy this need for him. He is undoubtedly reading through these horrible ratings and smiling. If you have the option to take any other teacher for HIS 1300, do it. If you do not have the option to take another teacher, then take an extra semester or transfer. If you want to receive a bad grade to humble yourself, then this is the perfect class for you!  - Grade In Class:F

Comments:HIS 1300 - DONT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! Dr. Hill will absolutely become side-tracked every class period. His quizzes were every Tuesday and were designed to make you fail. They'd contain obscure and unnecessary facts from the reading. I had to drop late in the semester and I was so glad I did because passing his class requires a massive amount of your time, plus he doesn't make himself available for office hours as well. I wish I had read his reviews sooner  - Grade In Class:DROP

Comments:HIS 1300 - Ok, SO Dr. Hill has been very fast at teaching and his PowerPoints don't mean much. I did learn a lot in this class, BUT his reading questions are TOO specific, and I didn't do well in other classes because of this one class. Definitely recommend taking someone else because he assigns sooo much reading and it feels like I have to work all my smester on that one class.  - Grade In Class:DROP

Comments:1301 - DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. This class was by far the hardest class I've taken at Baylor and it is an intro course, Prof Hill spends all of class telling jokes and is extremely unhelpful, when I asked him how I could do better he said Ï don't know read more "  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:1300 - Ok here me out… it is an adjustment and a learning curve. I HATED this class at first and I was freaking out thinking I was going to fail this class because starting off my quiz grades were AWFUL. Not to mention Dr. Hill intimidated me at first with the first 2 days of class being conversation based with 0 structure. TBH structure does get better but there is never much structure, but everything tends to align with where you are in the readings.Right before midterms I was scrambling to figure out a way out and possibly a way to take another class, but I was unsuccessful, but I am SOOO happy I was because my grade took a 180. His quizzes are very specific with a lot of random facts but I learned to study the quiz questions and get the correct answers when he has that time window open. I say that because when taking the mid term or other quizzes a lot of those questions come up again. He also was very generous and surprised us with 2 extra credit quizzes that has the potential to add to your grade (but not take away). His grading is based off of points so this quiz has the possibility to add a lot of points back into your grade. I started the class getting about 16/25 points per quiz so the extra credit quiz nearly erased those points I missed. The extra credit quiz is also a great review for the midterm and final because it covers a lot of previous questions and a few extra you may see on the final or midterm. As far as the essays go, be clear and follow his instructions. Answer his questions, be organized and site from the readings. There are a lot of reading btw, but split it up and take notes on people and facts that tend to get repeated. This class is about hunting, something thats not typically my thing, nor did I realize this is what I was getting into, but trust me as someone who’s not typically into that stuff, I found it VERYY interesting, and made me think about US expansion and the food industry a little differently. Over all this class can be very intimidating, and hard at first, but if you put in the effort, and push through the beginning, it will be worth it. I wrote this because this is information I would have known going into his class. I was freaking out because the other reviews are intimidating and I had to learn how to study for the quizzes, but if you stick through it and put time into your learning it will pay off! I definitely do recommend this class if you are willing to put in the work for it.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - First off - I refuse to refer to this man as Dr. He is quite literally the worst person I have ever met in my entire life. He refuses to allow absences for sickness, family emergencies, even COVID. When I had the flu during midterms I sent him proof - including a Dr's note and he DIDNT BELIEVE ME. Not to mention I asked him to post his PowerPoints (which were unhelpful) and he told me "no.". On top of this he lectures extremely fast (like a monkey after 5 shots of espresso) and told our class if we were caught recording his lectures we would be sent to the honor council. You have once weekly lockdown quizzes which are IMPOSSIBLE, and two essays along with a midterm and final exam. The material he lectures over is nothing like the material he quizzes and tests over. Considering we would have to read HUNDREDS of pages of material weekly for a 10 question quiz was pretty ridiculous for a FRESHMAN level class. In short - Take this class if you want to hate your life.  - Grade In Class:DROP

Date: 2022-05-05

Comments:1300 - Prof Hill is very funny and engaging, but his slides are very hard to take notes off of and he moves through his lectures very quickly. There are lockdown browser quizzes every week on the same day which is not the same day as you have class. There is a tremendous amount of reading for a 1000 level class, Prof Hill is also a very demanding harsh grader when it comes to the 2 essays due.  - Grade In Class:C+

Date: 2022-04-22

Comments:1300 - I wouldn't recommend taking hill's class. The reading is tedious, and the quizzes are very specific questions from the book making it very difficult. The class is also about hunting and meant, so if that is something you enjoy take it, if not I would advise you to choose another professor.  - Grade In Class:DROP

Comments:1300 - History of Nature and the Hunt. I am usually not one to enjoy history classes, but I found this class somewhat enjoyable. Dr. Hill lectures every class, so make sure to take detailed notes because he does not post the PowerPoints. There is a 25 point, 25 question quiz every week taken online over the lecture and the required weekly readings. The readings could get quite long, but I usually read them a few hours before the quiz and did fine. The only grades come from the quizzes, a midterm with a paper, and the final with a paper. The midterm and final consist of old quiz questions so make sure to look at the correct answers for the quiz every week. The papers were 1000-1250 words and he was very generous with the grading. Dr. Hill is very knowledgeable and is willing to answer any question in class. I enjoyed his sense of humor and ability to joke around with students. Do not take this class if you want an easy A. Dr. Hill genuinely cares about his students and works hard to make sure we gain something out of the class.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1300 - NO. Just no. Don't do it. Don't take this class. I have no idea how I got an A but trust me, you will want to drop this class from the first day. I'm glad I stuck it out and completed the course but I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. First of all, this is about the history of HUNTING and MEAT. It's boring, annoying, and he makes it so challenging. And Bracy really does not care about his students as much as other professors. He always said that if we had wifi or connectivity issues that that was our fault and our issue to take care of. And, he said most students would get C's in the class but to him that was fine. It was strange that a professor was so willing to settle on his students just being "average." The quizzes are ridiculously difficult and there is no extra credit or curve or dropped anything. However, I think he might have boosted final grades at the end which I appreciate. There is SO much weekly reading for this class. There were some weeks when I was reading 80-100 pages a week. And to really be prepared for the quizzes, you honestly need to read everything a couple of times. Even if you do all of this, and I would study and work 8-12 hours a week for the quizzes, you will still probably fail a bunch of them. Also, he kept going off about the movie Bambi and weevil bugs all of the time and it just didn't feel relevant. He also has a very blunt sense of humor that can come across as offensive and insensitive at times. He can be condescending and he's definitely not very approachable. If you decide to take this class because you want to live on the wild side for some reason, here are some tips: 1)take extremely detailed notes in class. He doesn't post any lecture materials from class so if you miss anything, you are entirely responsible for somehow getting that information. 2) Read the required readings TWICE. And TAKE NOTES on them. Even though they are boring, you have to know the material. 3). After each quiz becomes available, review your mistakes and make flashcards of the ones you got wrong. 3) The midterm and final consist of mostly old quiz questions so review each old quiz before taking each new quiz and especially before the tests. 4) There are essays for the midterm and final and he is more lenient with grades for these but do NOT slack off because these are long essays. 5) Take advantage of office hours because he will help you find a strategy for studying. Overall, there are so many other gen history professors that if you have the option to take them instead, I really recommend that.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1300 - ok I got an A in this class but DO NOT TAKE IT! you will drown in this class. it took hours on hours on hours to get the basic work done. I had to dedicate my semester to this class. and baylor doesnt offer tutoring. Dr. Hill is a very smart guy but he does not care about his students. in office hours, my friends and I said we were doing everything we could and asked for tips and he said you're not working hard enough and if he had tips he'd have shared them with the whole class. please for your sanity DO NOT take this class. the quizzes were also open note when I had the class and I still failed a lot of them, and theyre closed note now. you will fail this class and you will want to drop it from day 1.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Texas History - He is a Snape type of character. He will scare you with tremendous reading and multiple warnings about cheating. However, he is actually not that much of a harsh grader and quite understanding of students' circumstances.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1300 - I took Bracy Hill's online class. I was not aware that I was signing up for the History of Hunting until it was too late. There was no room to switch out in my schedule and I was stuck taking this class. The quizzes were ridiculously difficult. He expected you to watch through all of his weekly lectures twice before taking the quiz so you could "ace the material". I just did not have the time to do this. If you are a science major DO NOT take this class. You won't have the time to go through all of the material.  - Grade In Class:D

Comments:1300 - This class is mainly about hunting and old artifacts used throughout the years, nothing like what you think it would be like. As well as different kinds of meats there are and what kinds of animals they hunted. On top of all of this Professor. Hill is a disrespectful professor who has no respect for his students. I missed multiple classes because I tested positive for covid-19 and then strep/flu right after one another and when I returned to class (when he was calling attendance) he called my name and I said that I was present and he made a rude and unnecessary look at his computer since I had been absent for so long because of being ill for 3 1/2 weeks straight. I strongly advise you to not use this professor for this course. Now onto the work... We had quizzes every Monday that were "open-note" but did not follow any of the notes that he had lectured about. quizzes very hard!! one essay but it was very difficult and definitely took a lot of thinking, and in my opinion is it wasn't exactly how he wanted then you fail.  - Grade In Class:DROP

Comments:1300 - I think that everyone should be given a heads up that this class is on hunting history in America. If you are not interested in that, you should not take this. There is a decent amount of reading and if the subject is boring to you than the reading will be tedious. While I did not struggle with the class itself, I switched professors due to wanting to have a class subject that was of interest to me.  - Grade In Class:DROP

Comments:1300 - This might be different from other people's experiences because I took Dr. Hill's course during the summer session. If you're looking for a class that will give you an "easy A", this is probably not the course. Dr. Hill has several required texts (make sure you have them BEFORE THE FIRST WEEK) and assigns a good amount of reading per day. Most of his quizzes are based directly off the reading. For us, quizzes were twice a week and were only open for a certain period of time. They were 20 questions, and we had 20 minutes. The midterm and the final are essays that he will provide the prompt for in advance, and you have at least a few days to work on them. He actually gave us the prompts a couple days earlier than he said he would, which was nice of him. The midterm and final will consist of two essays each. The essays will probably be based off of lectures or a specific text. Make sure you don't mess up on the quizzes. If you're doing the reading regularly and in advance, you should be fine. I stumbled on the first few quizzes and pretty much only got an A (and I was BARELY above the cutoff) because I did well on the essays. Overall, this can be a challenging class, and it's probably way more difficult to balance this with a full course load. But if you plan ahead and stay organized, you should pass at the very least.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:His 1300 - This class is extremely difficult. I thought I was signing up for a normal History course but instead it was an American Buffalo and Hunting Tactics course. Dr. Hill assigned a crazy amount of readings for this course and his pop quizzes were HARD! I ended up dropping this course due to it having too much reading workload. I could not handle it with my other classes. One of the reading assignments was around 200 pages long (that you had to finish in a 2 day span). His pop quiz over a book we read "American Buffalo", asked us to identify a date that something happened on. There were about 200 different dates written in this book. He had a 3 hour long podcast that we had to watch along with our long reading assignments for one night. Don't take this class.  - Grade In Class:DROP

Date: 2020-03-05

Comments:HIS 1300 - Dr. Hill is one of the worst professors I have had at Baylor. I am so unsure as to why his ratings are this high. Dr. Hill will go off-topic for the whole 50 minutes and then at the end be like "oh well this wasn't the lecture I had planned haha." He has powerpoints prepared but never uses them and just keeps one slide up for the whole time and goes off on random tangents so you never know what to write down. He assigns SO much reading per night and then will quiz you on random minor details from the text. If you are just taking history because its a prerequisite for your major, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. It's so much work and it's SO hard. Everyone in my class is doing extremely poorly. His office hours are also extremely limited and he is almost never available. The only grades that you have for this class are the midterm, final, 2 book quizzes, and 10 pop quizzes, so there aren't many opportunities to boost your grade as the pop quizzes are literally IMPOSSIBLE. Yeah do yourself a favor and just do not take his class ever.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:1300 - Dr. Hill is the man!!!! He is probably one of the most hilarious, nicest, and enthusiastic professors out there. Granted, if you are sensitive, do not take his class, as he can be pretty blunt about things, which I personally like. He loves to poke fun at students, but his intentions are pure. He is very passionate and knowledgeable about history and is a great lecturer. However, the assigned readings can pile on from time to time. There is just a lot of it. But if you stay on track with reading, you will easily do great on the tests and quizzes. This class was comprised of 8 quizzes, 2 book quizzes, a midterm, and a final. the quizzes always have around 10 extra credit questions, which is pretty darn generous. The book quizzes are not too bad as long as you read and maybe reread the texts. And the midterm and final consisted of 25 multiple choice and one long essay, for which he gives you the possible prompts ahead of time to prepare for. All in all, Dr. Hill is an amazing guy, but he expects a good deal in terms of reading, as the quizzes definitely pull much from them.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:TX His - Look, if the other reviews haven't convinced you to take Hill, idk what else I can tell you. He's hilarious, knowledgeable, and a good lecturer, which is fairly rare. He's flexible with students and incredibly understanding about missing class for things like doctor's appointments and school events. Just take his class and show up, you won't regret it. The only word of warning is that he's very blunt and not PC, so if trigger warnings are necessary for you I'd pick someone else.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:HIS 4340 - Alright, ladies and gentlemen, this has been the third course I have taken from Dr. Bracy V. Hill II. It should go without saying (hence the fact that I've taken him THREE times), but Dr. Hill is by far the BEST professor I have ever had at Baylor. He is the reason I changed my major from Political Science to History. His lectures are amazing, you will learn so much! He picks extremely interesting books for the class to read. And he doesn't get pissed if you didn't do the reading for a class or two. I have learned more from Dr. Hill than I have from any other professor at Baylor. He is a true gem, and anyone should take him if they have the opportunity to. P.S. Get on his good side and make sure he knows you, he writes hella good rec letters.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:US Hist. to 1877 - Such a fun class. He's a fun teacher who makes discussions interesting and funny. The bad part about that is he can get off topic or rush through stuff. Quizzes are easy he often gave around 5 extra credit questions so you had some leeway. Tests were normal, scantron and a short answer section. There were 2 book quizzes but the books were actually enjoyable to read, and the quizzes weren't too bad either. Overall, this is a class I would for sure take again.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:U.S. History to 1877 - Dr. Bracy Hill is by far one of the best and most memorable professors that I have had at Baylor. His lectures are always interesting and engaging, in part due to his charming antics and hilarious anecdotes. The class only has two tests, which are only 25 multiple choice questions and an essay question. However, Dr. Hill provides you with the potential essay questions a week in advance to prepare. While his quizzes are not listed on the schedule, he typically tells you in advance when they will be. Additionally, the quizzes are only graded on a 10 question, 10 point scale and often have more than 10 questions, allowing you to obtain bonus points. Overall, Dr. Hill teaches a compelling course in U.S. History in which an A is easily obtainable.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2017-12-18

Comments:2365 - Hill is the goat and if I had space to take electives that I hadn't already filled with classes from the major I switched from, I would probably get a history minor and take him for 5 more classes. He "teaches from a powerpoint" but only looks at it to change the slide and the info is for us to write down as notes which are quite helpful. History is history so there's gonna be a lot of reading. Quizzes every so often that are "pop quizzes" but he generally lets you know the class before. On the exams, there is an essay which is 50% of the grade, but he gives you 3 essay prompts a week before the exam for you to prepare for them which is so clutch. Also there is only a midterm and a final as far as exams go. There are 2 book quizzes, 1 200 pg book on Thomas Jefferson and a 100 pg autobiography of Frederick Douglas. They are open book so if you take notes and annotate as you read you'll do fine, plus the books are surprisingly interesting. Take Hill if you can!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:HIS 2395 - Dr. Hill is the absolute best. This was my second time taking a course from him. I have said it before, and I will say it again, he is the best professor I have ever had at Baylor. He is witty and sarcastic, and very knowledgeable. He is always willing to meet with you outside of class to help you if you are struggling. He really wants his students to learn and be excited about history. Take this class if you want an awesome professor!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2017-05-13

Comments:2365 - I took Bracy for U.S. History before 1877 and I am so glad I did and for the life of me I can't figure out why he doesn't have a better rating than a 75. Yes he's sarcastic and every now and then likes to poke fun at students but it's all in good fun and is never mean. He is such a nice guy and he teaches with a great style and enthusiasm. For this class you only had to read 3 books and only 2 of which did you have to do a book quiz on, plus you get to use the book in class during the quiz! On the first day he makes the class sound difficult but it's really not, it's an average work load that you should expect from a college history class. The ONLY thing I would warn you about is that he likes to curse every now and then so if you are sensitive to that then maybe find someone else, if you're like me then you'll think it's hilarious and you'll like him even more. Take him!  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:2365 - Take Dr. Hill! He is a great lecturer and makes history genuinely interesting. He likes to scare students into thinking he is a hard professor and his class is difficult in the beginning, but stick with it and you'll love him and his class. He is very easy to talk to and wants students to succeed in his class. There are opportunities for extra credit on every one of his quizzes and the exams weren't terrible. Towards the end of the semester it is quite bit of reading, but overall it was nothing you can't handle. I would definitely take Dr. Hill again if I had the chance!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2017-04-30

Comments:2365 - Hill is a wonderful professor with evident passion for what he teaches. He loves to interact with his class and loves philosophizing and creating truly beneficial discussion and lecture. His lectures can be very interesting, however sometimes they do veer off into extensions of topics that do not directly relate to the course material (therefore if you are not as interested in history, you may find those bits of class to be slightly tedious). His quizzes are very fair in terms of how they reflect the assigned readings. He offers a LOT of extra credit throughout the semester. Essentially, every quiz, of which I believe there are 8, has anywhere from 5 to 10 extra credit points that you can earn (each point counts as a correct question). His exams are not too difficult either. As for the amount of reading involved in this course, there is quite an amount to tend to. However, if organized well, the readings can be completed fairly easily. Overall, Hill is a very funny, easy-going, honest, and passionate professor. I would definitely recommend him!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2364 - Dr. Hill is one funny dude. He is definitely very entertaining and does take the time to get to know his students if you actually try. He's big on participation and it's really easy to start a conversation with him. His lectures are a little hard to follow sometimes since he doesn't always use powerpoint or anything, but as long as you read the books you'll do fine. He gives I believe 8-10 pop quizzes based on readings, but he provides opportunities for extra credit on each quiz. There are also 2 book quizzes and 2 exams (midterm and final). I only got a low grade because I failed one of his book quizzes because I didn't throughly read the book like I should have, but I learned my lesson and was able to pull up a little bit in the end. If I needed to retake this class I would definitely choose Dr. Hill again.  - Grade In Class:C+

Date: 2017-04-20

Comments:Many - Dr. Hill is a fantastic teacher and person. Now that I am graduated and living in Waco, he is someone I would consider a great personal friend. He works hard to get to know his students, all you have to do is reciprocate. He is sarcastic and fun in class, and expects his students to prepare and participate (good practice for real life). The readings are accessible and not overwhelming and will help you understand the course material, nothing is superfluous. The quizzes and tests will be easy if you've been reading along and prepare the essay questions in advance. You'll get a good grade on the papers if you cite well, have a reasonable structure, and have a good grip on grammar (also excellent preparation for the real world). You should take Dr. Hill at every opportunity.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2017-04-07

Comments:Multiple - Dr. Hill is a professor I have taken many times and will continue to take in the future. Honestly, I would suggest his class to anyone who enjoys contextualizing history with current events and can write a decent paper. If you can't write, don't even try. Dr Hill has a love-affair with grammar and latin terms. He is at times sarcastic, demeaning, and dry. At first you might get a little taken back, but eventually you'll see that its just who he is. Dr Hill loves his students, loves history, and will do anything for anyone. He is genuinely a good man and I am incredibly fortunate to know him. I know that my life has been made more fulfilling for having taken his class. After years of being around him, I can honestly call him my friend. If you want to really get something out of your history experience at Baylor, take Bracy Hill.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:HIS 2365 - Bracy Hill is by far my favorite professor I've ever had. If you get the chance, take him. Although his class can be challenging at times, he makes the material very interesting. His grading scale is based on points with a maximum of 425. He gives you many opportunities to earn points besides just the basic exam points. He gives you 8 pop quizzes (most of the questions are fairly easy) that account for 10 points each. Sometimes the quizzes consist of 15-20 questions giving you the chance to earn 5-10 extra points. His reading quizzes (there are 2 of those) are essay based. Write a good couple of paragraphs that have evidence included and you'll be set. It is really easy to make an A on the quizzes if you actually read the two books (they're not hard reads). He even lets you use the book on the quizzes. The hardest part of the semester is the midterm and final because they are the only exams of the semester. He gives you 25 multiple choice questions on each and you have to answer one essay question. The essay question is fairly easy if you prepare for it before because he gives you 3 essay questions, tells you to prepare for 2 of them, and then you eventually choose 1 on your exam. Technicalities aside, he has a great sarcastic sense of humor. He doesn't hold back from calling kids out in class and has hilarious stories to tell, all you have to do is ask. If you participate and interact with him in every class, you will most likely make an A. Participation to him is most important, and it is a big part of your grade - it consists of 30 points. I've learned more about history with Dr. Hill than I have with any professor before. Professors like him are what make Baylor great.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2365 - So a lot of people will tell you that this class is a lot of reading and the workload is intense. Don't worrry, most of the book have like an 8th grade reading level and you should fly through them. You'll take 8 quizzes, out of 10 points but you can earn extra credit on each quiz. The midterm and final have essay questions but he gives you them ahead of time making it unbelievably easy to get a fantastic grade on them. You'll do quizzes on books and this is where he class can get hard, especially if you procrastinate. Don't sparknotes it, read the books. Common Sense and Founding Brothers are actually good reads and he does hint what will be on the quizzes during the lectures leading up to them. Only bad thing is that if you miss over 3 classes, he will dock you 5 points for each absence. With how much you're paying at Baylor, you might as well just attend class.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2365 - Dr. Hill was my absolute favorite professor that I have had at Baylor. He does assign a fair amount of reading, but it is completely manageable- even if you have a crazy busy schedule. He will give "pop" quizzes (most of the time he "hints" at when they will be or it's logical to figure out) that are presented on timed powerpoint slides. If you have test anxiety, make sure you have read and prepared for these quizzes- but the good news is that every quiz is only out of 10 and he usually puts 13-20 questions on them, so there is an opportunity to rack up extra credit! He only assigned 2 tests, one of them being the final, but overall, they were not hard. There are also 2 book quizzes, but you get to use your book. Dr. Hill is an extremely fair grader. TAKE HIM. I'm not someone who normally makes A's, and his A was easy!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:HIS 2365 - Dr. Hill was one of the realist professors I have ever had. He doesn't sugar coat things and won't hesitate to openly mock students, but he's honest and hilarious. He focuses on engaging students and wants them to actually take something away from his class. We had several pop quizzes throughout the semester, 2 reading quizzes, and two tests, one of them being the final. Though the workload is heavy, he ties everything together and will talk with you after class if you have any questions or concerns. My advice s to keep up with the readings and actually take notes in class. That's the only way you'll make A's on the quizzes and tests. Though he is incredibly intimidating, he's a great guy and wants his students to succeed. I highly recommend taking him if you get the chance!  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:HIS 1305 - Dr. Hill is the f'in man. If you like satire and a class that is funny as hell, take him. I will warn you though, he is FAR from easy. He assigns a ton of reading and a few papers which are pretty lengthy each night. But, If I had the option to choose another professor to take, I still would take Dr. Hill. It was by far the most interesting class I've ever taken at Baylor, and it's because he made it interesting. He is an amazing professor, very very funny, smart as hell, easy to listen to, very accessible, and overall a great guy. I dreaded this class and I ended up with an A. Oh, he also likes South Park so that should give you an idea about how he approaches some things in his class. He will voice his opinion, so if you can handle stuff like that he's not for you.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2365 - do not take this class if you want to slack to fulfill HIS credit.I liked how he was easy to talk to if i had any questions. I didn't like that there were reading assignments from various long reading sources we had to read before each class period. We only have 3 tests and 5 quizzes. It can be hard to keep your grade up if you don't do the readings. The quizzes are usually over a specific reading source or all of them at once. The tests usually stuck to lecture and main topics of the reading. His tests are 50 multiple choice and choosing once essay prompt from 3. He allows you to prepare 2 essay prompts ahead of time.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:World History before 1700 - Just take him. He's very nice and extremely smart. He still remembers my name and tweets at me from time to time. His tests are challenging but if you actually like to learn about history, then Dr. Hill is a great option.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:2365 - Dr. Hill is clearly passionate about history, but he's one of those teachers you will either love or hate. Personally, I loved him, but I can see how his abrasive style would rub people the wrong way. He has a low tolerance for people who don't put forth the effort in his class, and will sometimes tell jokes about them even if they are sitting right in front of him. If you're in this class, grow thick skin and realize that deep down he wants every one of his students to learn. The material isn't that hard, and he's a good lecturer. Just make sure you stay on his good side, and keep up with the grades in the class since there's not many of them.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:FAS-History of Hunting - Dr. Hill is one of those teachers you either love, or completely despise. He's sarcastic and witty, and sometimes his jokes can be offensive, if you are one who gets offended easily. His class can be boring but he always has high energy. There's quite a lot of reading required every single class, and pop quizzes to make sure you're reading them. You are also required to do four major project, but you get to choose between doing an essay or interviewing someone, which makes thing a little more interesting because you can switch it up. He's a pretty cool guy, and even though I thought the subject was strange from the beginning, he makes it a decent class. It's definitely not your regular history class.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2365 - DR. HILL IS SO HOT. I'm not kidding ladies, if you are going to have to stare at a history professor for hours every week, you might as well stare at him…That being said, this is not an easy class. The reading is intense, and unless you plan on really keeping up with it I would take another professor. He also gives pop quizzes and you only get 22 seconds per question. He is not easy by any standard, but he is an amazing lecturer. He's super sarcastic, which I find hilarious, but if you are easily offended be wary. Literally my favorite Baylor professor ever. And I'm so not kidding he is ridiculously attractive. May the odds be ever in your favor (of doing well in the class and also not falling in love with him)  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2365 - DONT TAKE HIM. You have readings for every class and they are extremely long and have quizzes often at least every other class on them and they are timed on a powerpoint and you only get about 15 sec on each slide. You can read all you want and still completely bomb the quiz. In class he lectures the whole time and it is quite funny and he is good at it but he goes so fast you cant write everything down and you never know what to study. He prefers you just to listen and do well...however that is possible. There is one midterm, on final and a paper and that consist of all of your grade so if you do poorly on one you will do poorly on the whole class. This class was extremely hard and I would not recommend him as a professor  - Grade In Class:DROP

Comments:1305 - Dr. Hill is an amazing teacher to take for history 1305! First off, the guy resembles Brad Pitt slightly and secondly is extremely knowledgeable about the content of the course as well as passionate about it. The quizzes and papers are not hard as long as you actually study for them, but the tests are very hard multiple choice simply because of the amount of content that can be fit in and you must write a full 5 paragraph essy along with them inside the hour class time. Speaking of which, there are only two tests that account for basically half your grade so make sure to actually do the readings in all the books and documents he has!! You also get graded on participation so make sure to get him to like you by speaking almost every class. There is also some extra credit work so dont worry. Overall the man is very funny yet serious and makes for one heck of a teacher! Take him, you'll enjoy the course much more because of him!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1305 - Dr. Hill is legit. He is the best professor that I have had at Baylor (I’m a junior), and I’m not a History guy…I just had to take a history course to fulfill Baylor’s general requirements. Dr. Hill is the best, but don’t mistake that for easiest. He has high expectations for his students and challenges them to perform at a high level. He is passionate about teaching, incredibly knowledgeable, funny (sarcastic! which was really entertaining), and he cares about his students (even though he may not admit it). This was the one class this semester that I really enjoyed attending every time. except for maybe test days :) Class – part lecture, part discussion based. Dr. Hill has powerpoints, but doesn’t always use them. (He does NOT post them on Blackboard, it’s pointless to ask). Don’t focus on writing down everything that the slides say, but instead, focus on what Dr. Hill is saying, what he emphasizes in lecture…that is where the test questions come from. His version of “lecturing” is a little different, often it was just a long narrative, just a great big story that would last the entire class period but would cover a specific time period or civilization. Discussions were normally about the readings (see below), but often times they were very interesting and engaging. Quizzes – 8 quizzes, out of 10 points. The questions come almost directly from the readings, so make a point to stay on top of the assigned readings. Sometimes he will ask more than 10 questions on the quiz, and whatever you score above a 10 counts as extra credit. Readings – there is one main textbook, from which you have to read basically a chapter before each class (~20 pages). There are also 6 “primary texts” – each on a different civilization – that you have to read for this class. On the day that the reading is due, almost the entire class period is dedicated to discussion on the text. Dr. Hill has a couple big themes to look at as you learn about different cultures: 1) the role of women in society, 2) what an ideal leader looks like in the civilization, 3) and a society’s perception of death (e.g. some embrace it (believing in the afterlife) and others fear death (not knowing what happens next, if anything)). Papers – of the 6 texts, you will have to choose 2 to write a paper on. 1000 words, have a legit thesis, a logical argument with textual evidence, you know the drill. You get to pick a theme for your paper (doesn’t have to be one of the above, you can chose anything! but it would be helpful to just do one of Dr. Hill’s big themes because that will make your test preparations a whole lot easier. Tests – there are 3 exams (including the final). All have the same format. 25 multiple choice, 1 essay (pick from two prompts). He will post the potential essay prompts on Blackboard a week before the test so that you can prepare and memorize them (this is really smart! if you memorize the essays, those are basically guaranteed points). The tests are cumulative, but just study old tests because some of the questions will show up again. Don’t count on always acing the multiple choice… they aren’t always a walk in the park. I did poorly on it the first time (but aced the essay, which saved my grade). After I learned more about Dr. Hill’s teaching style and what was important to the course, I did a whole lot better. Extra Credit – there were opportunities for extra credit. He would send out an email about a lecture on campus, and you had to attend, take notes, and then do a write-up about it (approx. 2 pages). You could earn up to 10 points. (Although the syllabus said only 1 extra credit could be submitted, he edited that in the middle of the semester and allowed 2 submissions). Availability – by appointment only. You just have to shoot him an email and schedule a time to meet…not a big deal. Final Words – if you are looking for the easy way out, don’t even try to take Dr. Hill’s class. If you want to learn, to grow (as a student and as an individual), then sign up for one of Dr. Hill’s classes. And stick with it, you won’t regret it! Email me if you have any questions (at my Baylor address, connor_warme).  - Grade In Class:A
