Comments:FR1301-1302 - Madame Pierce is an excellent teacher. I had no background in French at all, and at first I was nervous when on the first day she spoke entirely in French. But the truth is, her teaching style makes you learn the language quicker. Also, she is such a sweet and kind lady who wants to see you suceed, so the atmosphere is never harsh or anxious in the classroom. You never feel like you're getting picked on when she calls on you, and she's so kind that you aren't afraid to get the answer wrong-so you try! Be prepared, because you will speak in class, probably more than once every day. But, she understands that this is year 1. The tests are half oral and listening, which I did pretty well at. There are two oral exams also around the midterm/final time. Don't let it scare you- she isn't intimidating and its more like, your french partner will ask you some questions, which you answer, then she will ask you more about that topic. Overall, she is a fantastic lady and wonderful teacher and if I could would take her for everything! - Grade In Class:B |

Comments:FRE 1401 - Madame Pierce is a wonderful professor, hands down! I would pick her over any other french professor! She is very personable in class and creates a very positive learning environment. If you are freaked out about being called on to speak in class, TAKE MADAME PIERCE! She has a method of asking questions where no one ever feels worried or embarassed. She learns everyone's name in class immediately and because of her verbal exercises, all the students in class learn each other's names as well. Her class was fun because we got to know Mrs. Pierce as well as each other and things never got awkward. If you don't know something, she'll explain better or give you a chance to hear someone else before coming back to you. She is 100% available to help students, and wants you to do well in her class. The downside is that she is such a great teacher that it's easy to not realize how difficult her class is. A lot of people struggle to do well in her class. The in class tests are not as difficult as they seem, but always study. She gives you a detailed study guide before each in class test though that tells you exactly what to study without just giving you the questions. The oral exams are stressful and difficult, but she gives you the questions for the exam beforehand, so it's really up to you to study enough to do well. Try not to miss class as much as possible and don't fall behind in your homework, because it really does help. You are given around 3 pages in the workbook for homework every night, but they are very easy and almost all the answers are in the back of the workbook anyways. You watch these awesome french soap operaish episodes with every chapter that start out kind of dull because you don't know much, but by the last episode of the semester, we were freaking out! (although our class was mainly girls, so what can i say) Mrs. Pierce will show us current french magazines and have us read an article to show us how much we really can understand. Once, she showed us an article about Hannah Montana, and those are just the kind of things she likes to do to help students learn. We listened to music once in class and on our last day of class, we played french jeapardy and battleship to study for the final exam. Take Pierce!! Our class absolutely fell in love with her, and we are ALL taking her again next semester! Her spaces go fast though, so jump on it early! Bon chance! - Grade In Class:A |
