Comments:1306 - God. Where do I start? Don't take him. If you value your GPA and sanity, do not take him. HORRIBLE. Cannot say it enough. Will never take again. His grading was unfair and biased towards certain students, and he only had two essays and five exams. The exams were all take home open-note open-book, so you may be like CHILL awesome, I can ace this class, but NO! Do NOT be fooled! The highs are low 80s high 70s??? That means there's a problem with his teaching, not the students and their way of studying. These exams are from like 10 years ago, he needs to update them so they are relevant to what he is currently teaching that semester in class. He literally tests on stuff he taught in class five years ago that he's subsequently cut from the curriculum. Plus, he's been teaching longer than my parents have even been alive. For real. And he goes off on these horribly long tangents about his childhood that are surprisingly racist and prejudiced despite this being a cultural anthropology class? He obviously had a favorite student, who would get away with saying incredibly offensive things towards the vast majority of the class with no punishment. I think Cook actually ruined cultural anthropology for me. So yeah, don't take him. Please, Dr. Cook, retire. You're a kind enough old man, but it's time. Retire. - Grade In Class:B+ |

Comments:4325 - I took this class thinking I was going to learn about the subject and its relatedness to the real world. However, I, and most of my class to be honest, just ended up more confused. We only talked about one topic all year long, yet also learned nothing about it at the same time. It was supposed to be a seminar-style lecture, meaning everyone would speak, yet he would just talk the entire time. And again, I would have no idea what he would even be rambling on about. This class was easy and the weekly readings were very interesting, we just had no way to apply them. There were exams, but they were easy and he pretty much gave you the questions that would be on them at the beginning of the year. You also had to give a short lecture on a selected reading of your choice and a final presentation with a group, which pretty much if you tried, you would get a decent grade. Ultimately an easy class, just be prepared to be bored and possibly confused the whole time. Sweet man, I just don't think he's teaching the right class from his knowledge. (He would admit to not knowing Medical ANT, and just cultural all through the year) - Grade In Class:A |

Comments:4325 - Dr. Cook is such a sweet man, but he has zero clue what is going on. It was really hard to stay awake in this class, and we talked about the same topic all semester. And when I say we talked, I mean HE talked. Not much conversation was said, and when someone did reply to him, he just made it more confusing. There are weekly readings, and essay exams over every unit. It's not horrible at all. You have to do a student presentation on one of the readings, which I enjoyed! At the end of the semester, you did a group project, and everyone did a great job I honestly learned more from them teaching me than from him. Again, such a sweet guy and does not mean harm or anything, just a lot of sitting through 3 hours a week. - Grade In Class:A |
