*A 5 star workload is an easy workload; a 3 star is average; whereas a 1 star workload is extremely hard.
Comments:3330 psychopathology - Dr. Fergus is a pretty good professor. The class could get really boring at times (hard to stay awake), but he's super knowledgeable. Workload is pretty minimal for his class. 5 multiple choice exams (lowest dropped), 5 case studies (1 for each unit), and a cumulative multiple choice final. The exams aren't too difficult, but as other people said, you kind of have to pay attention to what he says in lectures (as hard as that may be sometimes). Just write down what he says and look over your notes later. Technically you should read the textbook, but he tells us he only pays attention to the bolded terms (glossary words). Make sure to take lecture notes, though, because his slides have minimal words on them (so looking at the slides to prep for exams is not going to help). If you're ever confused or want to go over your exams, don't hesitate to meet with him. He's so kind and is always willing to help. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Psy 3330 - Psy 3330 - Dr. Fergus is a good professor. The class is difficult, and you do need to put in work. The class is based off of the tests/final and one is dropped. Here's my advice to you: pay attention in class. Read the textbook based off of what he talks about in class (you don't need to read the entire thing). I tended to feel ill-prepared for his tests, but I always ended up doing well, except for the first test. On the first test, I did not prepare enough and didn't cross reference the lecture material with what I was focusing on in the textbook, but it thankfully got dropped. The tests feel difficult, but he drops a lot of questions to help everyone out. He is a bit monotone, and I got bored in his class a lot. This class is required for psych majors, so don't be intimidated. He is kind and will meet with you in office hours! He memorizes everyone's names and is super helpful! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:3330 - Dr. Fergus is very knowledgeable, helpful, and truly wants his students to do well. He makes sure you know what to expect for tests, but I consistently do badly despite that. His questions are vague to me and I wish he had other grades besides the case studies to even out my grade. If he still had the quizzes that are mentioned in the other reviews, maybe that would've helped me do better in the class and on the tests. Besides that, his lectures are interesting and he's really passionate about what he's teaching. For his case studies, make sure to answer every aspect of the prompt and to use all of your notes from lecture and the book over the relevant disorder so you don't miss anything. Overall, I recommend taking him, just be prepared to put some serious work in to prep for his tests. - Grade In Class:C+
Comments:PSY 3330 - Dr. Fergus is one of my favorite professors at Baylor! I had him for Psychopathology, and you can tell that he truly enjoys the topics that he is teaching and that he wants his students to know and enjoy psychopathology as well. The workload was almost nothing - there were five tests (yes a lot, but also a way to save your grade in my opinion), and before each test there were five case studies that were interesting to do and manageable if you put in some effort. He is clear on what will be asked on tests; literally, he'll tell you how many questions are coming from which chapters, how he'll ask the questions, etc. The class was definitely not a blowoff course, but Dr. Fergus made it interesting enough for me to be committed to learning more! I personally found his lectures and videos quite engaging; time flew by quickly in his course! I highly recommend Dr. Fergus for PSY 3330! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:PSY 3330 - Psychopathology- Dr. Fergus is the best! I do not understand how he has such a low rating. He is so nice and his lectures are so engaging even though he does have a dry voice. Maybe it was the material, but I loved this class and Fergus. He was very knowledgeable and clearly capable of teaching the class. The tests were not hard at all as long as you read the book and jotted notes. There were 5 tests (yes 5 but this is better because each test was only 3 chapters so it was more manageable) and there were 4 short case studies you had to write but these were super easy as you figure out what he wants. Also, there are 8 quizzes that are like 5 questions over the chapter of the day, but these were super easy even if you just skim the chapter (mostly just vocab questions). He is also super available and I definitely recommend taking him. I wish he taught more classes he was that great. Fergus if you're reading this, thanks for introducing me to Psychopathology and your class was one of my favorites here at Baylor! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:3330 - I love Dr. Fergus! Everyone says that he's boring but this subject is so interesting that I was never bored in this class. He is extremely knowledgeable about pretty much any question you ask and he does a lot of interesting research as well. The class is broken into quizzes, exams, and case studies, which I liked because it gave me a lot of opportunities to earn points outside of the tests. The quizzes are all vocab and the tests follow the powerpoints pretty closely. I also had him for 4327 and it was pretty much the same. Definitely take him if you can! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:4327 - Coming into Dr. Fergus's class, I had a pretty good knowledge of all the material that was covered and still managed to make a C+ because of how poorly written and unclear his tests were. By the end of the semester, I learned some of his tricks to get better grades on his tests, but when I took the final, some questions ended up not even being over material that the course covered, and it ended up being a grade-changer. In class, he lectures entirely from his books and powerpoints, which he posts, so realistically, you don't even need to go to class unless there is a quiz. He also assigns 4 case studies which he grades inconsistently- I made grades all over the board on these when I wrote all of them very similarly. All in all, I liked the class, but just wished I would have had a different professor. I probably won't take him again in the future. - Grade In Class:C+
Comments:PSY 3321 - Dr. Fergus's class consisted of 6 grades total. Five in class exams over the course of the semester (one of them being dropped) combined for 140 points total and one final exam worth 60 points for a max of 200 points in the course. Fergus was a very monotone person and I can understand why he's called boring and may seemed disengaged although he wasn't that terrible. My biggest issue with him was that his tests were just too abstract and vague for me plus I hate classes that have a layout like this with just section exams and a final. Unless you know a lot about abnormal psychology or are willing to spend at least a couple hours a night studying the material for this course, take another prof or just don't take it at all. - Grade In Class:C
Comments:4327 - I really enjoyed Dr. Fergus' class. It is very straightforward, his slides mirror the textbook exactly. He has a really monotone voice, which he is aware of... but he is a very smart professor and he is very knowledgable. I would recommend taking this course! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:abnormal psych - This guy is extremely boring. He tries to show videos and stuff to make it less awful but he's just a boring guy. but it's an easy class if you have some background in psychology - Grade In Class:A
Comments:4355 - I had Fergus for Psychology of Aging. The thing about the class is you have to pay attention in class. That can be difficult because yes he is not the most interesting lecturer. He discusses studies in class that will be on the test. If you can pay attention and take good notes in class, you will be able to mostly study your notes for the test and can make a B doing that. His tests are not that difficult. To make an A on exams you will need to study the class notes (notes on the studies, notes on the book material) as well as adding in information from the book. He also gave quizzes that were ridiculously easy. All you had to do was study the vocabulary. The tests are not the same. WORD OF CAUTION. Also he offers these journal entry things that are also grade boosters. He will ask you a question(based on your opinion). Make sure you don't just answer the question but support the answer with your reasoning. If you do that you should make 20s on all of them. Lastly he offered a paper in which you had to apply topics discussed in the class to a movie that covers the different aspects of aging. That paper was pretty easy as well. The final is a breeze if you worked hard during the semester. VERY GENERAL. I think I might have made a 100. And this is after I came in scared because all I did to study was breeze through the notes quickly an 100 before the final. Take Fergus. I think he is definitely easier than other Psychology professors- i.e. Dr. Rowatt, Dr. Riley who give grades based solely on challenging exams. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:4327 - The most boring, dry human being to ever exist. DON'T DO IT! If I had one hour left to live I would spend it in his class because it feels like an ETERNITY. The class is boring, his tests are impossible, and he does not offer anything to help get grades up. I am an A/B student and found myself struggling so much just to pull a C. He does post his power points, but they are intentionally vague, and if you don't remember every word from lectures, and every detail of the textbook…you will not succeed on his tests. - Grade In Class:C+
