Comments:2310 - Honestly, she's a good professor who's committed to her work and is also truly kind. I took her for British Lit, and it was an amazing experience overall. You do have to do the readings, but the workload for the class is quite manageable if anything. She's a nice professor, contrary to some of the negative comments some have made, and I would highly recommend taking her.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - I am honestly very surprised to see such low reviews for Dr. Smith as I found her to be an overall very well professor. I never thought that she was a really poor professor nor did I think she was over the top amazing. Ultimately, she was good in my opinion. Her teaching ability was sort of bland, but I found it to be relaxing sitting and watching her powerpoints. She always made sure that we knew about the pop quizzes and as long as you did the readings you were bound to get 100. Whenever I emailed her she always responded quickly. I actually thought she was a very helpful teacher when working on my essays I always asked her questions about certain parts and to revise them. To which she always gave a very well developed response. I totally would recommend her for 1310.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2301 - Very average class, average teaching from powerpoints. Tests, quizzes, and written work are not difficult if you read the assigned material. The workload is not difficult. Participating goes along way in her class, as it helps her build conversation on a topic by hearing student thoughts.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2301 - Honestly, Dr. Smith was an alright professor. She was a nice person, but what she expects from her students is pretty unreachable. Her exams consisted of writing around three to four 2-page "essays" in 50 minutes. She did not grade lightly considering all that she asked us to do. Additionally, we had pop quizzes here and there that definitely required you to do the reading. I would consider doing the reading AND sparknotes to make sure you understand everything for the quizzes. She also changed the number of quizzes dropped on the syllabus without telling anyone so a lot of people took zero's with no warning.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:2301 - She definitely isn't one of my favorite professors, but the class wasn't horrible. She seems like the type of professor to hardly ever give an A on an exam, since her exam questions were pretty much everything we discussed in class and I took so many notes and "thought" I had wrote on the exams exactly what she had said in class. But she does do pop quizzes over the readings, so make sure you read beforehand. Some readings can be pretty lengthy, but sometimes sparknotes gives you all the information you need for the quizzes. Overall the class wasn't bad, just listen to what she talks about in class and make sure you take good notes on big discussions because those will most likely be the exam questions.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:2301 - I was kinda scared to be in this class after I read the reviews, but my experience in Brit Lit was not as nearly as bad as I expected. Dr. Smith's grading is not necessarily hard but some of the points she takes off seem random. The quizzes are usually easy if you read with the exception of a few. Some of the readings are very confusing and she does a good job of explaining. I hated reading every night, but class time wasn't terrible as long as you participate in the class discussions. Dr. Smith can be kind of sassy at times, but overall she is a good professor who just unfortunately teaches a required course which is pretty boring. I did fine in this class. I hardly studied for tests despite just reading over my notes the night before. I am a science major and hate reading old english books, but I survived. Do the work & you will be fine.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2301 - When I first read the reviews on Dr. Smith, I dreaded this class. But honestly, it was very easy for me and this is coming from a CompSci major. The workload isn't bad; just read/ skim when required because there are pop quizzes. Pay attention in class and take notes because the exams are basically just over the reading material and what she lectures over in essay format (though I will admit I almost fell asleep a few times - this class can be a bit boring). For participation, as long as you listen and ask questions, you'll be fine; you don't always have to get the answers correct. Dr. Smith is a nice person and easy to get along with. I am not quite sure why all the previous reviews are so bad; I never had any problems with her.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2310 - I DISAGREE WITH ALL THE PREVIOUS COMMENTS. I thought Professor Smith did an excellent job. She is a fair grader and she tries to make Brit Lit as interesting as it can be. I highly recommend taking her, especially if you are not an English major and just need the class to graduate. I felt as I learned a lot about Brit Lit and the workload was not overwhelming. Professor Smith would also give us information for interest-sake and to make the class more entertaining. She often incorporated a lot of group work to make the class more fun. I enjoyed her a lot and I do recommend her!  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:2301 - This class was pretty easy. You definitely have to defend your opinion if it is different than hers, but overall the tests are super easy to get an A on as long as you reword what she says in class and tie into the question she is asking. Overall I would take an English course with her again, just because I know how she grades.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2302 - Well Dr. Smith was fair in the beginning. But she turned out being a DRY and overall horrible professor. DO NOT TAKE HER. She will not give you the grade you truly deserve in the end.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:2301 - Every other single review on this professor is nothing short of the truth - SO DRY AND SO SO SO BORING!!! I can not stress enough how boring this class is, and it's not even the class itself. Any teacher can make a class fun, and there lies the problem; the teacher. Dr. Smith is the absolute worst teacher I have had here at Baylor! Talk about a snooze-fest. I cannot fathom how boring Dr. Smith is. We're taking so boring that after the first few class periods of listening to her monotone lectures, I mentally checked out of her class, and when I say 'checked out', I mean I checked out.....HARD!!! To the point where I just stopped paying attention to her lectures and I didn't miss a beat. Her lectures are completely pointless. This class is a total waste of her students' time when they could be in another class that could actually advance them in some way. The class is very easy (hence why I got a B in her class). All you do is read a bunch of poems, novels, and there's one big essay that you have to write. She just doesn't challenge her studnets' thinking, more like she puts it to sleep. I mean let's call it what it is; Dr. Smith just makes this class feel like nap time in Kindergarten. She's also not fair to her students. Like the review below me, if you are one of her students, YOU MUST have the same opinion as her. If not, she makes you feel like you're not up at her level. She is not your friend, she's barely your teacher, and she will never help you if you are struggling with her class. Also, she is not a fair grader. She takes FOREVER to grade every single paper and test in this class. Please, I beg of you, if you are a student and you haven't taken British Literature yet and you are reading this, don't make the same mistake I did. There are PLENTY of other teachers to choose from. Please don’t consider taking boring Dr. Smith. In fact, don’t even mentally acknowledge taking her at all. SO DRY AND SO SO SO BORING!!!  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:2301 - Just avoid this professor. This was the most boring class that I have ever been in and she is not a fair grader, at all. She's terrible at getting grades on quizzes, exams, and essays back to you so you do not know where you stand in the class. She expects you to have the same opinions and ideas about things that she does and if you do not, you are wrong. Would not recommend her at all. The other reviews are correct as well.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:2301 - Classes are not very exciting. There is a lot of reading assigned for homework that you are quizzed on. I did not read assignments until the day of the quiz. There is one out of class essay that was fairly easy to write if you pay attention in class and not procrastinate on it. The exams were fairly easy (free response, short answers and one large essay) but required a lot of writing. As long as you pay attention to what she says in lecture, this course is easy to handle.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2301 - Very dull and uninteresting. However the course is easy enough that you can get away with not doing any outside reading and still pull out a B as long as you know how to write well.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:2301 - Extremely tough professor, I only pulled a B- because I sucked up to her towards the end of the semester. You will read a lot of poems, the novels are interesting in themselves but she finds a way to make it boring. Worst English professor I've had at Baylor.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:2301 Brit. Lit. - Unless you suck up to her expect a C. No matter how much you study, no matter how well you actually do, your grade will only reflect what she thinks about you as a student. Had As in all my other english classes. You read a ton of poems and she is extremely dry and boring. If you take her being a pillow.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:2301 - Professor Smith is very dry and boring. However, she is very smart and passionate about literature. YOU READ A TON OF POEMS. BE WARNED. Tests were manageable and only one outside essay was required.   - Grade In Class:B+
