Comments:1302 - Dr. Herrera is just great. I took his class online so I imagine his in person class to be even better, but even online he was a great professor. Dr. H makes you excited about engineering, solely because HE loves engineering and he is so passionate and knowledgable about what he does. I want to state that Dr. H's 1302 class is the most difficult (but not impossible!! I had zero experience with programming prior to this class and still got an A) out of all the 1302 sections. He really challenges you and expects you to know more than other professors might. If you are a EE major, this is great for you, however if you have a different focus where programming isn't essential, then I may recommend a different professor. Regardless, Dr. H explains everything thoroughly and clearly, providing us with numerous examples and practice. He has review sessions before exams and uploads many resources to help prepare us before exams. The best thing about Dr.H was his helpfulness and availability. There were several instances where I needed help outside of his set office hours, one time being like 7 or 8pm - and he was willing to meet with me via zoom and help! His tests were more than fair and never covered something he did not teach in class. There were HW and reading assignments every week or other week, which were all helpful and not just busy work. Overall, I love Dr.H, he's super personable and easy to talk to. Cares about your success, exposes you to the extra abilities MATLAB has and applies your new skills to real world situations. Take him!!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:EGR 1302 - Delayed review, I took Dr. Herrera for 1302 in Spring 2020, but it is one my favorite classes I've taken at Baylor. Dr. Herrera is amazing. You will learn so much more and go much more in-depth with MATLAB's capabilities than any of the other 1302 professors. He's amazing. He spends a lot of time talking about "fun" applications like image processing and system controls. That being said, since he covers so much more material and goes much more in-depth his class is also much more difficult than the other 1302 professors. I think the trade-off is worth it. The tests were more problem-solving than recitation - I recall on one exam we were given a function we had never seen before and instructed to read the documentation to figure out how to use it in context. He really emphasizes the programming aspect of MATLAB rather than the graphing calculator aspect which is so so much better. My friends in other classes were falling asleep, but I loved going to this class, even with no background in programming. Take Dr. Herrera!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1302 - Dr. Herrera is a great teacher who truly cares about his students' success. Going into EGR 1302, I had never coded before which made the course a bit difficult, however, if you go to office hours and study diligently you will do well in this course. The way homework was structured, we had reading homework and ‘application’ of the reading homework. For the application problems, there were always only 5 problems. However, as the semester progressed, the homework increased in difficulty, stacking the basics of each unit on top of one another. The test took concepts from the homework and called for you to apply your knowledge of them to the test questions. One of the fundamental points of this course is to exercise problem solving so this element was present in each homework and more importantly on tests.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1302 - Dr. Herrera is an amazing professor that truly cares about his students. He's a young Baylor grad who understands and emphasizes real world engineering applications. Herrera works at the BRIC, but he came to campus to hold office hours and help sessions that generally lasted a few hours (he won't leave until you grasp the concept or have finished the assignment). He had occasional reading quizzes, which were guaranteed 100's if you did them. His homework could be somewhat lengthy, but he was willing to help work through problems during class, after class, or during office hours. Tests were a thorough test of your understanding of the material. Though difficult, the tests were very doable if you understood the concepts and didn't have someone else do your homework for you. I loved Dr. Herrera and would definitely recommend him!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:EGR 1301 - Great professor, a lot of fun. Enjoyed taking his class. Be sure to get a group to get homework done, some of his problems are incredibly difficult. You will not regret taking him because he makes learning the content enjoyable by introducing applications, which is not as common with other professors as I have found out. His tests are what really matters, if you have a bad TA like we did he'll fix your homework grade it it was something dumb like significant figures. Make sure you show up to every class to get the attendance bonus!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:EGR 1301 - Herrera is great. He's young and tells lots of great stories. However, his lectures might seem relaxed, but make sure you do plenty of practice problems and read through the powerpoint slides he skips, because his exams are HARD. He does have an attendance bonus that he says accounts for the fact that his tests are harder. He is willing to work with you if you show that you are putting in effort. I would take him again.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:EGR 1302 - Herrera is very chill and kind. He's always willing to help and brings a lot of fun to the class environment. He sort of deviates from the standard coursework as another student said, but unlike 90% of most circumstances, I think he actually improved the course. We touched a little deeper into some subjects that other students didn't go into -- for instance, we played with MIDI in Matlab at one point, simulating FM square waves. It was strictly an in-class deal and wasn't any extra work, but was still educational and fun all the same. He was also helpful outside of class when you needed help, and all in all made Engineering Analysis a very fun and laid back class for me. Definitely go for him if you get the chance -- you won't regret it.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - Herrera is a bro. He gets really excited about engineering which makes the class lots of fun. He doesn't go straight by the departmental syllabus which means you touch on some more interesting/advanced topics, but whenever he does that he doesn't expect you to be very familiar with them on the test. He also let us do some of the old intro engineering labs outside of class, which I really appreciated since it gave us hands-on experience and probably was the most interesting part of the class. Finally, he is super chill about late homework which is always a plus.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:ELC 2330 - If you are an EE, take him. He is an outstanding professor and you will learn the material so that future classes will be much easier for you. If you are a ME, DO NOT take him because his class is extremely hard and it won't help you at all in your major. Take it with another professor and get an A.  - Grade In Class:C
