Comments:Psych Stats - In my opinion, he just repeats the same things over and over. He said it was so we understood it, but it came of as a bit boring. He has a nice voice too, so it was hard not to fall asleep. He did admit when he made mistake though and he would make it up to us by dropping some grades or giving credit back.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:2405 - This class was incredibly boring. But, if you're a psych major, you have to take it no matter what and just get through it. He is a nice guy but since the content is so boring, the lectures drag on and you want to fall asleep. The lab is incredibly helpful and you actually do learn a lot in this class with the research study you have to conduct. The class will be helpful for future upper level psych courses but it is just boring.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:2405 - Not going to lie it was a pretty boring class. But it was so much easier than stats (a breeze compared to that class). Latendresse is kind of monotone sometimes, and with the 75 minute classes it can feel like forever. But he's very nice and cares about us. Clicker questions are annoying, but he usually gives hints (he can see the answers live so just switch to what he says). So you kind of have to go to class because clicker attendance plus the questions (they count for 60 points - 80 questions he takes top 60). Tests are not too hard (make sure to use the companion website - a lot of the questions are from those multiple choice worksheets). Try not to get behind on the research paper - keep up with the deadlines and ask your TA for help. If you listen to the feedback, you'll get an A on it. The presentation seems scary but he grades nicely and basically for the last 4-5 weeks of class we just listen to those (no lectures). He says this but ask him questions during the exams because he can help clear things up and sometimes help you through them. Overall super chill professor (gets mad if you're on your phone, though) who wants you to succeed. You'll be fine.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2405 - Dr Latendresse's lectures were not the best, but if you go to him 1:1 he does a GREAT job of explaining the concepts. The exams were really straightforward, just make sure you take notes and do the practice problems on the website in the syllabus. The research project was also straightforward, I would just recommend resubmitting/getting feedback from your TA as much as you can because its really easy to leave it all until the last few weeks of the semester.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2405 - The most important thing you need to do for his tests are to use the website he provides in the syllabus. The questions on the tests are extremely similar to the multiple choice questions on the website. His test questions are confusing, but he is willing to rephrase it to you when you are taking the test so don't be afraid to go up and ask him for clarification. I didn't do very well on his tests, but the research paper can really save your grade if you do well and keep up with it.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:2405 - As the last reviewer said, only a small percentage of the class attends anymore. I am not part of that percentage. His lectures are so boring and the most exciting day was when he had a guest lecturer who went through the powerpoint quickly and we were done 30 minutes early. To do well on the tests, use the companion site's multiple choice questions and study those religiously (like using Quizlet). That will save you. For the lab, make sure to ask your TA to help you with everything so you can get as many points as possible. Good luck.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:PSY 2405 - Having taken PSY 2402 as a prerequisite, this class felt unnecessary, though I will say that I now have a more practical understanding of what research involves than what I gained from 2402. Dr. Latendresse is overall nice and makes himself available, but almost every lecture involved a concept like independent variables, open-ended questions, or random sampling being discussed for upwards of 30 minutes. Also, no more than 10 out of probably 80 people attended each lecture, as attendance wasn't taken due to COVID and the power points were almost entirely verbatim from the textbook. If you don't need this class, I would not take the risk, because even though it should be an easy A, Dr. Latendresse's tests were consistently challenging due to the wording of the questions, and depending on what TA you have, you can lose an iffy number of points on the homework and paper. If you ~do~ need to take this class, I would HIGHLYYY suggest printing out and filling out the supplementary online resources for each chapter (the multiple choice q's are super similar to his). ALSO don't be afraid to go up to him during the test and ask him any and all questions about the literal test questions if you need to. Every test we took he offered to clarify anything if we needed, but very few people took him up on that, and let me say even though I probably annoyed him by coming up so much, he will tell you whether you have the right answer and sometimes basically tell you the answer to the question. He probably saved me 3-5 points on every test because I'd run ones I was confused about by him. Also bring caffeine so as not to fall asleep, and collaborate with your research paper group - it'll make the whole writing process way more manageable!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2405 - I thought Dr. Latendresse was really nice!! His lectures were fairly straightforward (a little boring, he spends a LONG time on one example) but overall I had a good experience. I don't really think the textbook is necessary (I did fine on the exams without it).  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Research Methods - Dr. Latendresse always has the best intentions during lecture--really. Even when he was calling out people whose names he didn't know as they turned in exams about why they were skipping class, even when he spent almost 30 minutes explaining independent variables to a group of students that had already been through Intro and Psych Stats, even when he stood silently for nearly 3 minutes waiting for someone to answer his question at least once almost every class period. But Dr. Latendresse is possibly the most confusing man I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. Once, I walked into class fully confident in my understanding of closed-ended questions. Dr. Latendresse proceeded to lecture on closed-ended questions for nearly 20 minutes, and I walked out of class doubting my ability to identify open vs closed-ended questions. "Is this a closed-ended question?" I asked myself. I wasn't sure. Dr. Latendresse spent most of lecture reading almost verbatim from the textbook--so much so that on days I had read the chapter before coming to class it felt as though I was more prepared to give a lecture than him. The wording of nearly every question on tests was confusing--he isn't trying to trip you up, sure, but I stumbled through exam one as if I was Bambi trying to run from hunters. I once heard a student ask Dr. Latendresse a question about the lab section attached to his class and he responded, "I don't know, I don't use that survey system." I am convinced that Dr. Latendresse is actually a random man who walked off the streets of Waco onto Baylor's campus about 20 years ago, pretended to have a degree, and was given a job--which he immediately regretted. He talks more slowly than Aunt Bethany in Christmas Vacation and in more riddles than Master Yoda. If this class wasn't the most helpful one I've taken thus far to prepare me for grad school, I would warn all students to steer clear of ever having Dr. Latendresse for lecture.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2405 - Horrible professor, probably worst in the psych department. Don't know what the point of his teaching even is considering that his lectures make no sense. He is not a good public speaker so getting lectures is hard. Nobody ever went to class except for on test day. The final paper and research isn't bad if you go to lab and follow the instructions. The reason he is a horrible professor is because he literally accused and reported half of. y class for plagiarism. We didn't even plagiarize he just chose not to read our papers and relied on turnitin which makes mistakes all the time. Pretty much everyone had to argue to the honor council and ended up winning because they saw how dumb his accusation was. He docked so many people's grade. Unfortunately he's the only prof for this class and its required for psych. Honestly read the book listen to your TA and avoid him at all cost.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:2405 - Ok, literally what even is Dr. Latendresse's teaching?! This man took what felt like years to explain the tiniest & simplest concepts, but brushed over anything slightly difficult. He talks incredibly slow through the entire lecture. It feels like he forgets what he's supposed to be teaching us and just comes up with it on the spot. Don't even look at the schedule he gives you because he's not gonna follow it. He will squeeze A WHOLE a chapter the lecture before the exam so good luck if you have any questions. Honestly, the textbook is really easy to follow along so you have to read it in order to understand what is actually going on. I would've rather had no lectures and just exams after reading the textbook because Dr. Latendresse's powerpoints & examples are straight from the book so lecture was almost pointless. Unfortunately, you're not able to get other work done because he doesn't allow laptops so I felt like I wasted 2.5 hours every week in class. Also the exams were really weirdly worded. Exam #2 was hard for everyone I talked to, but the other 2 (and final) weren't so bad. Lastly, the major project throughout the semester is only worked on during lab so I would shoot for a good TA.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:3350 - Developmental psychology sounds incredibly interesting however it's hard to feel like we learned much in this class. There were 4 short and easy reflection papers throughout the semester which felt like the only time we ever learned something for. There was one exam the entire semester (over 8 chapters) and the final over the remaining 6 chapters. He stopped lecturing after like 3 weeks and started doing only class discussions. Sounds nice, however, they were about very broad topics and mostly opinionated questions that had little to NO connection to any curriculum or material. After weeks of these conversations we had our first exam, which he offered no insight or information about the exam prior to it, and everyone failed it so badly he had to curve it. If you are looking for a class with absolutely no work take this one, but be warned. Yes, there is only 1-2 exams but they are extremely difficult due to a lack of teaching and lack of information that is easy to grasp onto as more than common sense from the textbook.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:PSY 2405 - Tests are straight from the book, don't pay attention during lecture because he will end up confusing you. At first what he says will make sense, but by the time he has explained it 10 different ways you will be more confused then when you first walked into the room. You are not allowed to use any technology during his class so be ready to take all of your notes by hand. The first and third tests contain the easiest material, while the second test is the hardest. Final is cumulative and evenly distributed amongst the material. Tests 1-3 are 50 MC, and the final is 100 MC. The paper isn't bad as long as you follow the rubric.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:2405 - My only qualm with this class is how deceiving the "point scale" is. Dr. Latendresse states in the syllabus that X amount of points is an A, X amount is a B, so on & so forth, however he totals up your grade using percentages. So regardless if you make the number of points needed for an A, if it amounts to a B% on canvas, he gives you a B, which is really unfair. Additionally his lab TA's are idiotic. Throughout the semester, you have the chance to re-turn in parts of your paper for more points, ie if you get a 5/8 the first time, you can turn it in again to get an 8/8. The lab TA's never input your higher score after you re-turn it in, so make sure you hassle them to change your grade when you take this course. Overall, class was alright. Enough to bore you literally into a coma and subsequent death, but just read that god forsaken book and don't let Shawn deceive you.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:Research Methods - Just do your work and you'll do great. The class isn't hard and he is great about answering your questions. He wants to make sure you understand the information. The tests are all multiple choice and follow the book and lectures pretty closely  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2405 - Very nice guy, boring class. His test are incredibly easy if you just read the book and the papers are pretty easy to do too  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:2405 - Dr. Latendress gets a bad rap but I don't understand why. He doesn't have the flashiest teaching style, but the tests are straightforward and the material isn't hard to begin with. There is a lot of work in the lab and you need to read the textbook, but its manageable if you put in effort and try to keep up. Also, Dr. Latendresse is a NICE man and is wiling to spend as much time helping you as you need.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2405 - This class is hard. If you read each chapter thoroughly and well, then you should be okay. The tests are tricky and rough, but it's possible to get through. Definitely do the extra credit. There's not a way around this class if you're a psych major, so READ READ READ verrrry carefully. He is a really nice guy, but it's a rough class. Better than psych stats though. Also pray you get a good lab TA.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:2405 - Some of the comments below are are over exaggerating WAY to much. After reading their reviews, I was terrified for this class. When actually it isn't any harder or easier compared to most other classes here at Baylor. Yeah his lectures are boring and all, but in his defense research methods isn't exactly the most interesting topic. He's pretty much always available in his office and is more than happy to help or answer any questions. I feel like the tests are really fair, if you study enough you'll get the grade you want. The only annoying part it the paper. It's just super long and a lot of busy work. But you basically hand in the paper by sections throughout the semester, get feed back from your TA, and then you can correct any mistakes before you turn in the final draft at the end of the semester. I really don't know why some people are complaining so much. Honestly, after psych stats research methods seems like a cake walk.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2405 - Dr. Latendresse isn\'t really as bad as other ratings make him sound. His lectures really are pretty boring - he will have the most complicated explanations for pretty simple concepts. He gets slightly annoyed when people aren\'t contributing in class... I haven\'t seen him be condescending when someone asks a question, like another review said. The textbook is critical to do well in the class, and the lectures are really more supplemental and summarize what is in the textbook. His tests have a lot of questions where there are two answers that are pretty similar, so read carefully. Do the extra credit psychology studies. The research paper isn\'t too bad either - it\'s really just making sure you know how to analyze SPSS outputs and use proper APA formatting. Your TA will guide you through the paper. The class is definitely less intense than Kirk\'s... the worst part will be the paper, only because it\'s a group project. Also, Dr. Latendresse allows a lot of time to review your exams after it\'s graded and he is more than willing to help you out with any questions you have about it. Definitely go in to review it after every single exam so you can ask questions.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:PSY 2405 - OK... so here's the deal... his lectures are TERRIBLE. He pauses after almost every word and the class literally drags on for centuries! The powerpoints and lectures are straight from the book which can be a good and bad thing (bad because things get redundant.) But besides the lecture, Dr. L is a really nice guy. I'm not sure about the experiences that others that posted before me have had with him personally, but every time I went into his office hours to look over a previous test or ask questions, he was more than willing to help me figure out what I didnt understand. Honestly, in lecture he seems a bit dry (sometimes cracks jokes but will also call people out if they're on their phones/computers/talking), but he's is nice one on one! Tips: DO THE EXTRA CREDIT. I was 2 course points away from making an A and it helped me go from a B+ to an A! READ THE BOOK. It really helps to just sit down and read each chapter. This is gonna sound insane but for the final, I reread the whole book. LISTEN TO YOUR TA AND PRAY YOU GOT A GOOD ONE. My TA Meredith was super great, but the 12 pg research paper you spend your whole lab time writing is a hard and they grade it like it's an actual APA style graduate student's work. So I suggest you pay attention to every detail your TA tells you. BRING A NOTEBOOK AND PENCIL.You're gonna need something to doodle with while you sit through the boring lectures. You can do it! An A is possible with hard work :)  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2405 - The person who had him in November of 2015 is lying. Latendresse is HORRIBLE. I thought that surely nothing and no one could be worse than Psych Stat with Kirk, and I was wrong. Latendresse is rude, unhelpful, and a piss-poor teacher. All he does in class is regurgitate the book at you, and then his exams are full of application-style questions that are totally different from anything he ever discussed in class and completely subjective questions where you just have to guess at what kind of answer he wants. And heaven help you if you try to ask him a question--he gets extremely defensive and condescending. I studied for his final for a week and scraped out a mid-range B on it. The only advice I can offer is: 1) DO THE EXTRA CREDIT because it just might save your grade, 2) work really hard on the lab assignments so you can milk as many points out of them as you can, and 3) pray to God you've got a decent lab TA. Mine was terrible, and it almost tanked our entire lab section's grades. Good luck, and may God have mercy on your souls.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2402 - Dr. Latendresse is one of the worst professors I have ever had. He does not have an effective teaching style, and if he didn't take role every day, I would have skipped every class. He uses the most complicated explanations to derive concepts that we haven't ever heard of and will spend half an hour on a slide. The saving grace is having a good lab TA so pray that you get one of those because this is the worst class ever, next to psych stats.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:Research Methods - Wow. I'll say Dr. Latendresse hasn't been my favorite professor at Baylor but he certainly wasn't as bad as the last reviews make him sound! He's not THAT bad. Yea, his lectures are very boring and you don't really learn much from them. I had to actually read the textbook to make up for the lack of learning in lecture. But still, he wasn't that bad. The test were really easy in my opinion. Especially after getting through psych stats. If you can survive that class, research methods feels like a breeze! Don't let the other reviews get you too freaked out about his class. It's definitely a class you can survive through.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2402 - This guy doesn't understand the meaning of mercy. When you ask him a question he gets upset. When people don't participate in class, he gets upset. He gets mad when people are on their phones. He just seems angry all the time. The powerpoint slides are not available to you. Actually, there's nothing available for you on his website. The lab is insane.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:4312 - Dr. Latendresse. Let me start by saying that I do not question his credentials as a psychology researcher. This man is the worst professor I have ever had. He doesn't teach. When you ask him a question, he doesn't know the answer. When you question something during his office hours (which are VERY limited), he gets defensive. He is disrespectful to students. For his final, he told us he would send out a review that would be very helpful since this class had no tests. It was 300 objectives long for a 400 page textbook. Broad as h-e-l-l. He basically retyped all the section and subsection headlines and rephrased them as questions (some of which didn't even make sense). Divided up 5 ways, each section took anywhere from 6-24 hours long to complete. He emailed us this review the day before dead days began for finals. I wouldn't even complain about the review if it had ANYTHING to do with the final, but it didn't. He literally copied and pasted every single question that about 60-75 percent of the class got wrong from previous quizzes (which you're not allowed to keep by the way) onto the final. He assigns this dumb book report assignment. You spend 1/3 of the semester listening to book reports. Then, 30 questions on the final come from the book reports. Some people's questions were posted 2-3 times. Many people's questions don't even end up on the final. This gives an unfair advantage to certain students. This guy is a prick. If he doesn't like you, he will find a way to screw you over. He doesn't know anything. He stole his syllabus from another professor. He is so unoriginal. The existence of this professor is useless. Meaningless. Null. Does not exist.   - Grade In Class:B
