Comments:1300 - Love this woman. She is super fun and outgoing and she will help you with all of your work. She gives a very set schedule about what is happening each class. She also gives reminders of what to read before each class which is super helpful. She gives a decent amount of work but she always gives it weeks in advance so as long as you space it out you will be fine. She doesn't have any expensive required textbooks which is so nice for my broke college student self. Highly recommend her course because it is super engaging. Definitely way easier then my APUSH class in high School.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1300 - I want to start by saying Dr. Poor is a good teacher and cares about you. However, she is the most picky teacher I have encountered so far (3rd semester). Expect to write 2 500-750 word responses twice a week. Also expect 4 homeworks with around 2000 words of writing thoughout the course. The class moves fast (late start) so be ready for that. Stay on top of it and you'll do fine.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:HIS 1300 - Extremely diffiuclt workload. Very specific rubric, if you follow she'll give you the grade you deserve. I spent a lot of my time working on papers, homeworks and discussion boards. Though, she is a good teacher. I liked her as a professor. But you will have to type a lot.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1300 - There were 2 essays for this course, and there was definitely enough time to complete them. We only had 4 homework assignments but they definitely took a bit of work. There were also about 9 packbacks we had to complete which was an easy 100. At the end of the semester, we had a take-home exam which looked identical in format to the homework. You do need to come to every class, or at least make a friend so that if you miss class you are able to have the notes (since you NEED to have the notes to complete your homework and take home exam). Dr. Poor is very passionate and I would highly recommend taking her if you prefer papers and taking notes over quizzes and exams!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:HIS 1300 - Poor was an okay online teacher, I preferred this than having to remember info for in-person class. This class is basically a writing class with a continuous theme of immigration. You have to write about 600 words on your original discussion post to receive a good grade, don't forget to do the 2 replies. She has "homework" which means your about to write 8 or 9 pages answering her questions. Then their is essays, which she graded very harshly for a required course. For instance across the 300 or so the highest he gave out was a 95 for an essay, and average was 80. Be ready to bs through it, but I still prefer it in comparison to the in-person class.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1300 - I like history so this may be biased, but I enjoyed her class quite a bit this fall. She's very passionate about history (in my class's case, Immigration) and cares about the students which really made me feel like I was seen. I took her course in person and it consists of a discussion post (question) along with two replies to questions every week, 4 homework's that were dispersed across the semester, 2 papers (800-1100 words for both), and a take home final. The only thing I really didn't like was everything was due at 5PM on Wednesday and Friday. The class's intensity peaks in the middle of the semester if you end up assigned with the Benton-Cohen "Inventing the immigration problem" book. Overall, she's very friendly and you definitely have to put work in to keep up.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2021-11-17

Comments:HIS 1300 - Dr. Poor treats her HIS 1300 class like a graduate level immigration class. The workload is insane for no reason. The entire class is busy work. Discussion boards and long, drawn-out homework assignments are all you do. You're essentially writing an essay every week along with a few 1000 word papers. I love to write, and I still hated this class. Stay away if you hate busy work.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:His 1300 - I would recommend taking her even though it is quite of a workload. She is very passionate about what she teaches and cares about her students which I really liked. I took her asynchronous online course and her course consists of a discussion post along with two replies every week, 4 homework's that were dispersed across the semester, 2 essays, and a take home final. The only thing I really didn't like was everything was due at 5 pm. There is definitely a bit of work you have to put in but it is worth it and not too hard.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1300 - Dr. Poor is a great teacher! Definitely take her if you have the chance. This class was asynchronous for me and I was able to get all the lessons and readings done in time for the weekly discussion posts. Her homeworks are comprehensive and are often lengthy, but she dropped the lowest 2/5 for the semester. She is willingly to work with you and replies quickly if you have questions. She is big on citations, so make sure you check her Canvas modules for how she wants things to be cited in homework and discussion posts. The material was easy to understand, but there is a lot. She is very passionate about history and its shown through her dedication to making sure students know what assignments are coming up and making sure we all knew what was happening. Great teacher!!!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1300 - DO NOT TAKE HER! DO NOT TAKE HER DO NOT TAKE HER! I feel like I am in an AP History course for a 1300 level class. The workload is insane and I do not understand how she expects us to get it all done. I am always doing History and I have no time to focus on my other classes. As of now, I have an A because I am literally killing myself but we will see how long that lasts.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:HIS 1300 - Do NOT take this class if you are looking for an easy A or easy curriculum. Dr. Poor is a great teacher who is very passionate about what she teaches. She is always willing to help, however, for a freshman level class, the standards held to the student are pretty ridiculous. If you are passionate about this subject and are looking for a challenge curriculum, then take her class.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:2366 - Dr. Poor is extremely passionate about history and it is refreshing every time you walk into class! There are readings before every class (only 2-6 pages) and usually pop quizzes, but she often hints that there will be one and it is mainly just to make sure you did the reading. There are 2 test, the midterm and the final, which can work in your favor if you study really hard for both of them. The test are mostly written which also helps because you can get partial credit for almost 70% of the test. However, this class is not a blow off class and you will have to work for you grade since there are multiple essays, quizzes, homework assignments, and readings, but she drops a grade from each category which helps a a lot and makes getting an A much more doable since you might mess up on an assignment here and there. Overall, Dr. Poor is an amazing professor and I definitely recommend taking her, but you will have to work for your grade.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2366 - I have never enjoyed a history class until having Dr. Poor. She is so passionate and energetic about history, I promise you will enjoy every minute. I NEVER dreaded going to class, even though it was at 8am. For a survey level history class, I did think at times the grading was a little tough and was slightly on the assignment heavy side. With that being said she gives students lots of grace by allowing you to drop one paper, one hw, and one sometimes two quiz grades. She is ALWAYS willing to help and truly cares. The few times I was able to make it to her office, she was beyond helpful as well as encouraging. I was so close to an A in this class (like 2-3 more points on my final exam close) and was kind of sad I didn't get it, but I learned so much I can''t complain. I tell you that to say a good grade is attainable and she's great. TAKE HER!  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:2366 - Dr. Poor is a great professor. She truly cares about every single student and will always be there to help you. There were few assignments for this class that were time consuming but they were all manageable. I learned so much from this class; I highly recommend taking her for HIS 2366  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:HIS 2365/2366 - I love Dr. Poor and she is by far my favorite professor at Baylor! She gives your important terms to study and a focus question at the beginning of class and that is what you should study for the midterm and final (which is not cumulative). There are 5 homework assignments (you only do 4), 3 do-able papers (you only do 2) and there will be 10 quizzes scattered about the semester (she gives you hints when she will be quizzing you). All of these assignments were not that hard, but they were more time consuming, but if you reach out to her before the assignment is due, she will go over the assignment and give you feedback so you can get a better grade (be nice in the email otherwise she won't do it). The midterm and final were not difficult if you prepare well before hand. to prepare for the exams, you only study the terms of the day and the focus question and you will do perfectly! I like to overkill when it comes to studying, so I try to at least start looking over my notes a week beforehand, but I know some classmates who started studying 3 days before and they did fine as well. You have to do daily readings, but most are like a page or two long, so they are not bad at all (this is where the content of the quizzes comes from). Dr. Poor keeps you engaged during class and likes for the class to answer questions and have discussion times, so if you like to sleep during class or be on your phone, this isn't the one for you (plus she kicks the sleepers and the texters out of class). History can be boring if you don't have the right professor, but this history with Dr. Poor is anything but boring! I took her HIS 2366 (post-civil war) first then her HIS 2365 (pre-civil war) and in my opinion, HIS 2366 is a easier, but I'm also a WWII guru so there's that :) Both classes are formatted in the exact same way and the only difference is the time period being discussed. All in all, take Dr. Poor, even outside of class she is very friendly and is genuinely concerned for your well-being. I wish I could take another one of her classes, but I've run out. I'm in no way a history major, but I found both of these histories to be very engaging, fun and I actually wanted to go to class. Take Dr. Poor, she will make your semester very interesting!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2365 - I took the minimester and it was very easy. Compared to the rigorous core classes we all take, this class was a breeze, even if we compacted a week of class into each day. If you take the full semester version of this class, I'm not saying that you'll be wasting your time, but you'll have a lot of free time. Besides the course, Poor is laid back and down to earth with all of her students. She makes you cite your sources for the homework but that's really the only tedious thing she has about herself, other than that she's easy going. She's nice and always willing to have a conversation with her students outside of the subject matter. If you have the chance to take Poor, I wouldn't hesitate to sign up for her class.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:HIS 2365 - Dr. Poor is extremely passionate about History!! She cares for every student and is always there to help. This course is a pretty heavy workload. You have five homework assignments that take some time, random reading quizzes, three papers and a midterm and final. As long as you take REALLY detailed notes and pay attention then you should be fine for the tests. TAKE HER  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:BIC 2344 - Dr. Poor is the best professor I've ever had by far!! I was almost a History major and one of the first things she says on the first day of class is that she\'ll be offering a lot of historical context for the course within small group. She does exactly that using power points she\'s made and then we have group discussions. She\'s a pretty easy grader for the ASRs and gives bonus points on the quizzes. The course itself is pretty fast-paced but Dr. Poor helps fill in the gaps. The ASRs are much better than having essays and Dr. poor will look over yours if you email it to her 24 hours before it\'s due. The midterm and final are difficult but the faculty offers extra credit for the course overall so do it! And take Dr. Poor! You will not regret having her as a professor!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2365 - Dr. Poor was a great teacher. Very passionate about her job and history. My class was about half student athletes, so that should tell you that her class is very passable. But, although it may not be taught to pass the class, I had to work very hard to get an A. For this class, there was 5 homework assignments (drops 1), 3 book essays (drops 1), a quiz every week, assigned reading for every class, a midterm, and then a non-cumaltive final. Dr. Poor was very helpful and always willing to work with you. The only thing I could even think to complain about would be that it took a while for her to get our grades back. But she did find out she was having twins pretty early in the semester, so it wasn't a big deal. Overall a great teacher that I would highly recommend, as I was excited to go to her class everyday.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2365 - Best history class I have ever taken. Take her classes! Each class is interesting as it is was educational. I loved everything about this class. Her workload is not the easiest. But she does drop a number of assignments which does give you options. Take her class. 10 out of 10 would definitely take again.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2366 - I LOVE LAUREN POOR MORE THAN ANYTHING IN THE WHOLE WORLD!!!!!!!!! I low key wanted to ask this girl to be my mentor in the real world because she is so dope. She freaking loves history and is so passionate about everything she teaches which makes the class super engaging. Her class lectures are told in story format with everything she says having a purpose. Her tests are fairly easy if you study - she will give you the terms to know and what questions she will ask. She doesn't care about the little details of dates or names but just if you can tell the big picture of the events. Show up to class, take notes, and you will do great. I seriously love this woman so so much.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:HIS 2365 - I love Dr. Poor. Hands down the best professor I have had yet at Baylor. She is passionate about what she teaches, cares about her students, and is overall an amazing professor. I am taking her again this coming Fall. I highly recommend her.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:BIC 2344 - Lauren Poor is hands-down the best professor I've ever had. She really makes an effort to make the readings relatable to everyone, and always makes her students feel like what they have to say is important. Even though she (like every small group professor) doesn't have a lot of say in the readings we do or the format of the test, I didn't mind the workload for World Cultures IV. I actually looked forward to doing the readings most of the time because they went fast and made you think, even though there were a lot of them. She is the kind of professor that puts desks in a semi circle so everyone can talk to each other. She is also the cutest human I've ever met. She jumps around and talks with her hands a lot and gets so excited about the material that it makes you excited to learn it.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2366 - DR. POOR IS AMAZING. I'm a history major, so I enjoyed the material in this class anyways, but I talked to several of the guys in my class (football players, frat guys, etc.) and even they found her lectures entertaining. She will do absolutely anything to help you understand the material. She's a very fair grader and you have hardly any work in this class. She assigns a lot of textbook reading (the whole book essentially, chapter by chapter), but to get As on the tests you don't need to read any of it (although you do have to read it to get good grades on the weekly assignments because you have to cite your information). She is so entertaining and funny. I was never once bored in her class. She was always so helpful and willing to answer my questions or just simply have a conversation with me. Her tests are simple, just IDs, short answers, and an essay, and the final isn't cumulative. You also only have to write 2/3 essays and do 4/5 "weekly" assignments. I really put very little effort into the class, but I did go to every class and take vigorous notes (you can find them on OneClass.com if you want them!) and I got like a 95 in the class.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:HIS 1305 - Dr. Poor is an incredibly friendly and personable professor. She essentially will bend over backwards for you if you make even the slightest amount of time to visit her during office hours. Her lectures are well put together, and is very straightforward with what material will be on exams and such. Shes knowledgeable and sharp, and able to answer most questions in the class room. She focuses on broad themes within history, rather than stressing the knit-picky details. The textbook reading is very manageable, and the books for the class are actually very entertaining. I have some small complaints. She's not exactly the easiest grader. I struggled on some of papers, even though I fully read the books and planned my paper before hand. She gives decent feedback, and seems to think the content in the paper is solid, but then will assign a lower grade than expected. She's also set in her grades, so try not to expect a couple points here and there. Finally, she believes in class room activities and team assignments. I personally dislike this technique, however I think it is going to be seen in all HIS 1305 classes. All being said, I would highly recommend her to all students, especially students outside of the History degree plan, as she makes history enjoyable and easy to understand. Stay on top of reading and say a couple things in class and you're sure to do well.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:HIS2365 - Professor Poor is really passionate about history, and this course was really easy. You have to do 2 out of 3 papers, and have a midterm and a final. She always encourages office hours. I really enjoyed this class.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Intro to World His. - Dr. Poor is very passionate about history, but due to this particular class, had to teach to the lowest common denominator. I'm sure that in upper-level courses, she would be able to shine, but in this course I felt like I was being talked down to the entire time. The tests, essays, and participation grades are not difficult, but for whatever reason, she grades the homework assignment with a super high criteria. I would take her again in a better course.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Am History Since 1877 - I honestly don't write many reviews but I felt that I should at least make other students aware. Professor Poor is a great teacher and she is passionate about history and she is willing to speak with you but the workload and how she grades essays and short answers is pretty tough. I usually make A's and history has usually been my best subject until this course. For example, I do really well on the exams (which most other history classes are the main focus of the course) go to class and even participate in class but the papers on the books we have to read have been a B and C so my average is a B so far. Simply put, not an easy course.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:2365 - Professor Poor was very difficult for me. I've normally always done great in history classes, but for some reason, she just wasn't working for me. Wouldn't recommend.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:2366 - TAKE LAUREN POOR! she is the best! she is so passionate about history that its so easy to pay attention and take notes. I have always hated history but her class is very enjoyable and I never dread going. Her tests are not that difficult if you just go to class and listen. She assigns a few papers over books you have to read which is annoying but worth it for her class!! she also lets you turn anything in early and she will go over it and give you feedback so that you can get a higher grade when you actually turn it in. TAKE HER  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1305 World History - Professor Poor knows her material very well. She is passionate about the subject, and completely understands that we are not all historians and does not expect such. She tries very hard to help us understand all the different concepts. Her tests are multiple choice with a couple of short answers. She prepares the class very well for exams. There were 2 of them, and a final exam. She has 2 papers throughout the semester. Overall, I thought she was a great teacher and super helpful.  - Grade In Class:B+
