Comments:2306 - I loved her! Her class is very fair. Each exam was stuff from her exam reviews, so if you did that you were fine. The homework never took longer than like 30 minutes and we did not have it very often. She also has experiments in class which count as extra credit towards your final grade. They were super fun and engaging. She is a great teacher and if you ever need help she is super available! I wish I had her for macro. I 100% recommend.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Micro/Macro Econ - SHE IS THE BEST ECON TEACHER!! She is the best teacher for this subject. She is a former FBI economist and has so many cool stories and experiences that allow you to learn real world examples. She has games for us to play and earn lots of extra credit. Tests are not that bad. Homework is easy. She is the sweetest lady ever and definitely the ONE TO TAKE!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2306 MicroEconomics - Dr. Mencken is one of the best professors I have had at my time at Baylor. I had her for 1201 and I did not have much of a relationship as I do with her in 2306 Microeconomics. She makes herself very accessible to her students and even before the test she has longer office hours so you can come in and ask all the questions you have before the test comes. There's homework every week on cengage and her tests and quizzes are a good testing of what you know. She teaches on a very basic level which is perfect so that you can absorb the information slowly but surely. Her quizzes are all multiple choice and her tests are multiple choice and short answer. I REALLY RECOMMEND HER to all the business majors who need to take econ because she really cares about her students and wants you to do well in the class!!!!  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1201 - Take this class online if you can! This class is super easy and doable. Professor Mencken is super helpful and will do almost anything to help you. Go to office hours if you have the time because it will help with the tests. Her lectures are kind of boring but helpful for the tests.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1201 - This class really isn't hard. All you have to do is take notes over the powerpoints and do the practice tests on Cengage since a lot of the questions for the exams come from those. Mencken is really nice, even if she is a bit out there. The speakers are the best part of the class; you learn so much from them.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1201 - Very simple and easy introduction to business course, this class is a good indicator if business is the right path for you or not. Mencken was a good professor, not the greatest in the world but she did her job well and her class is an easy A if you put in some amount of studying. She was a meme among our group because of some of the stories she told our class and her mannerisms in general, but she was pretty solid  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1201 - Just show up, listen, take notes, and an "A" is in your future.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:BUS 1201 - Professor Mencken is a very kind person. She has your best interests in mind and wants you to succeed. Her lectures cover what is necessary. The exams have a tricky question here and there but are by no means difficult if you prepare properly and have a pulse during class. There is barely any homework and she is clear with her expectations. Overall this class is not anything too exciting but Mencken tries her best.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2020-04-22

Comments:1201 - Not that bad, but her test sucks. You have hw every chapter, and it's impossible not to get 100 on it because all you have to do is looking it up on google for the answers, and it gives you a total of 4 chances. DO YOUR HW. This will save your grades at the end of the semester. Her test is wacky, which I was frustrated with, and she puts most of her work to her TA. She gives one extra credit and just do it no matter what because it will pull your grade up at least 2%  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2020-04-21

Comments:1201 - Sweet lady, decent teacher. Pay attention in class, !!TAKE NOTES!!, read the chapters assigned, and do the homework (which you have multiple tries, no reason not to get 100) and you will do well. Tests are kinda wack. Go to the extra credit speakers though, it bumps your grade up like 3% overall.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1201 - Professor Menken is a great professor. The class is twice a week, MW. On Monday there is a guest lecturer based on the topic of the week. On Wednesday, she does a lecture based on the textbook. Menken hand wrote the notes on the projected. They were super easy to follow it honestly felt like highschool. There was one homework due per week, it was pretty easy, definitely possible to get a 100%. There were three tests and one extra credit assignment which you definitely want to do. The tests, however, are no joke definitely review the practice tests in the textbook because she uses some questions from there. Menken is also probably the only 1201 teacher so you would have to take her. Overall, the class is pretty easy, if you do everything you are supposed to you should get an A.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2019-12-16

Comments:1201 - Class was MW and on M we had a guest speaker and on W she lectured. Very laidback, easy class. She uploads her notes online to fill in when lecturing in class and also uploads videos of the guest speakers before the test rolls around in case you missed class. Make sure you study for her tests though, they're no joke, but extra credit helps tremendously.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2019-12-10

Comments:1201 - This class was torturous to sit through. It was a struggle to walk in the door most days. I didn't think professors still wrote notes under a projector by hand, but she proved me wrong. This class felt like going back to elementary school with the way she taught and talked to us at times. I understand that many freshman take the class, but a lot of us have already been at Baylor for a year or two by the time we get to this class. Stop patronizing. The tests are fine and you can do well in this class with not too much effort, but it will be hard to get through. She will test you on random details about the personal backstories of guest speakers as well.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2019-12-09

Comments:1201 - Another one of those filler classes you take as a Business major just to fill up your schedule. You probably won't learn anything. It's just a waste of time, but occasionally you could get an interesting guest speaker (one comes every week). Easy class for the most part, but don't underestimate exams. I know plenty of people who should have gotten A's and had one bad exam grade that got them a B+. Lot's of people get away with cheating in this class, so... yeah. As far as teaching ability, Mencken isn't bad. She takes written notes as she teaches and projects them on the screen, so you shouldn't miss information. Great way to fix the problem of not getting enough information off of a powerpoint slide before it changes. Oh and she loves her son more than life. Get ready for random moments in class where she brags on his athletic ability, intelligence, and general prowess lol.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2019-10-17

Comments:1201 - This class was huge, and only had one graduate student to help her so that made things hard to communicate (if you had a problem with your grade, etc) but it is a very easy course. She often brings in speakers that are pretty good but her lectures are pretty boring. The tests are almost exactly off of the Cengage website practice tests so if you take this class that's how you should study.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2019-04-08

Comments:1201 - I really liked the course, honestly. The facetime speakers were interesting and fun. The homework was totally doable; you just read chapters in the online textbooks (Cengage and Top Hat). I will say that the Cengage was slightly annoying because some of it felt kind of unnecessary. The Top Hat chapters were super useful, though, and I liked the questions while reading. The tests were good about questioning relevant material, and with studying, I felt prepared. In class, she hand-writes the notes we take by using the projector to display it. If you pay attention in class and do the readings, you really won't need to study too much for the tests. Mrs. Mencken is really sweet, and I found her funny. She's a straightforward person who doesn't want to make the class a struggle, and most definitely wants you to succeed.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2019-03-03

Comments:1201 - Speakers who have their own businesses come every week to talk. That was somewhat boring. There are online homework modules that you have to do, and can be completed quickly. The actual lessons she teaches were boring to me. Just very very general stuff about the business world. Her tests were too hard in my opinion. The homework assignments are extremely long ad boring if you actually read through them, and so it is hard to study for the tests for that reason. She also tests on the speakers, and I even re listened to the videos of speakers and took notes to the speakers and still missed those test questions. ON A PERSONAL NOTE ABOUT HER... she obviously doesn't like us students on a personal level. She bragged that the high cost of our tuition pays for her to have free lunch, as well as all the professors. She says the reason Baylor does this is that they hope the professors eat with the students, but she says she just sits with other professors so she doesn't have to sit with us. Just that kind of stuff, she thinks she's better than us because she is a professor. Also, has a really childish and annoying TA.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2019-01-17

Comments:1201 - Fairly easy class that all business majors must take. Three tests and no final. Mencken is readily available when you need her outside of class and added on bonus points this last semester for all of us.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2018-12-19

Comments:1201 - Lecture days got really boring and she didn't get through all the notes most of the time. Many of the speakers were interesting though and balanced out the lectures. Not a ton of homework and you start to learn tricks to finish the assignments fast. MC tests. No final. The first and second tests were pretty easy with some studying but the last one on accounting and finance was harder. If you do the extra credit you get 15 more points which were a nice cushion, and I recommend everyone do it. Unfortunately, this class isn't optional for business students so just push through.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2018-12-18

Comments:1201 - Business 1201 was a great class. There’s less than an hour of homework weekly and 3 tests. The first two tests are easy but the last one is more challenging. There are bonus opportunities and there is no final exam in this class. Professor Mencken is a really nice lady and she is a good teacher. The guest speakers make this class worth it, however. You’ll get the opportunity to hear about how established professionals in the business world made it to where they are. Loved this class. Only taught on Monday’s and Wednesday’s.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2018-12-09

Comments:BUS 1201 - Ms. Mencken is a nice person, but not the best teacher. The tests are a lot harder than the content of the homework. This doesn't matter that much as long as you DO THE HOMEWORK. Never made higher than a B on a test but pulled an A by completing all the homework and extra credit.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2018-12-08

Comments:1201 - For the most part this class is pretty easy. You have homework from two different books where you get two attempts on every single problem. However, the tests are NOT a blow off. They are conceptual based and you really need to understand the material. She is a pretty good professor, just pay attention to her lectures and take good notes and you should be fine.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2018-12-07

Comments:1201 - Pretty chill class and instructor. Mondays were guest speakers from companies and Wednesdays were lectures over the assignment due the night before. About 35ish questions a week between two different homework websites that only take 30 minutes max (but they're both pretty expensive to get access codes). Tests were easy as long as you study your TopHat assignments and lecture notes.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2018-11-19

Comments:1201 - Honestly the majority of the work is reading the textbook/doing the textbook homework. I would suggest instead of actually reading the textbook, just command f in the textbook because the questions come straight from there. In order to study, just use the practice tests in Cengage.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2018-11-06

Comments:1201 - She is a very kind and helpful professor at Baylor! Like her so much because she really helped me a lot in her office hour. She gives students an opportunity to get extra credit, so if you do this, you will be fine. She has three exams and no final exam. I got a C in the first exam but got both A in the second and last exam. If you feel you are confused about her lectures and notes, you can go her office hour. If you want to get A, please please pay attention to her notes. You need to fill out the blanks by yourself and go to see her if you do not understand them. If you do these things, you can do excellent in her exams.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2018-05-12

Comments:1201 - I do not know what we are supposed to gain from this course. she taught all over the place and her notes are very hard to follow. she also spends a good portion of the class talking about her self and never finished the material she is supposed to teach, resulting in having to teach yourself. she just re did how she teaches the course in spring 2018 so I was one of the \"guinea pigs\" for this new teaching style. her tests were over nothing she talked about in class so make sure you teach yourself because she is not very helpful. she is also one of those professors that have multiple correct answer but the more correct one is the actual correct answer (very annoying). but there is only one homework assignment a week and they are all very easy I never read the book and almost always got at least a 95% on the homeworks.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2018-05-08

Comments:1201 - I'm not really sure what I was supposed to learn in this class. First off, we were her 'guinea pigs' on a barely half written book she wants to start using for the class. The book was unedited and very unhelpful. Additionally, the book barely ever helped answer any questions on the exams. The exams were over the most random and pointless information that shouldn't be the focus of this course. While we read about things like the economy, and basic marketing, were examined over very random things that never have to do with what we read. I did horrible on the first exam and when I went to review it her response to why I got it wrong was "technically you're right, but this answer is more right." Yes, she's one of those teachers. She also spends a solid 5 to 10 minutes of class talking about herself (in a 50-minute class) and then can't ever finish the notes by the end of class time. The only good part about this class is there's barely any assignments and the face time speakers are pretty cool.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2018-04-10

Comments:BUS 1201 - This class was a very easy A. As long as you do the homework, and prepare for a couple of hours the night before each test you will do well. It is very important to go to class though because on the days where speakers come there are clicker quizzes and that ends up being a lot of your overall points in the class! I didnt realize how much missing a couple of classes could really affect that portion of my grade. I used the online mind tap adaptive test prep to study for the tests as well as reading over my notes and I got a high B test average. As long as you go to class and do all the assignments, you'll easily get an A.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2017-12-09

Comments:1201 - Professor Menchen is very nice and is always accessible if you need extra help. Business 1201 is a required freshman class and is extremely easy. The guest speakers are usually interesting and the lectures are structured. As long as you do your homework on time, take notes on the speakers, and read the chapter you will ace the class.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2017-12-07

Comments:2101 - Luckily, the homework for this class is very easy and the material is pretty basic. However, she asks the MOST STUPID question on the exams that sometimes have NOTHING to do with the actual class. We also very rarely finished the notes in class. Overall, she's not a great teacher, but the class isn't insanely hard.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2017-12-04

Comments:1201 - So, you're going to have to take this class. It is just one you will have to get through. Luckily, it is only twice a week, there is NO FINAL, and there is only one weekly homework assignment a week that I knew from common sense. I do not like Mrs. Mencken, she is nice but is pretty dull. She talks about her son a lot and no one really wants to be there. The class is very structured and you do the same things every week. The tests are hard because it does not feel like a lot of the studied material is on there. Luckily she gave us an opportunity for extra credit. DO IT!!! I have a 95 in the class and you can make it. It is just one of those classes you have to get through. You can do it.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2017-12-01

Comments:1201 - She is adequate for a class that's pretty much required for Business students. Nothing exceptional. The tests are based off of notes from class, but her notes during her lectures aren't all that great. Like others have said, the tests are harder than they should be, but if you put in a couple hours of work the night before you should be fine. Homework is also nice. Weekly assignments that are an easy 100%. She's really nice and cheerful, sometimes quirky in a funny way too. One nice thing is they bring guest speakers in every Monday, so it's an easy skip/sleep period lol. If needed, you could not go to class the whole semester, study notes from friends, do the HW, and probably get an 85 for the course. There's also no final so that's cool.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2017-11-09

Comments:Bus 1201 - This is a good teacher, but her tests are stupid in almost every way, she says that learning the material isn't enough and she will expect you to know more than you are supposed to. The class overall is easy  - Grade In Class:C+

Date: 2017-05-04

Comments:1201 - She talks about her son way too much. Tests are harder than they should be, but not too difficult. If i went to class more I would have made an A because she gave up to 16 bonus points to people who went to every class on clicker questions depending on how well they answered the clicker questions. I didn't go to class that often so I didn't even get 100 on the clicker questions, if I knew this at the beginning of the year I would have gone.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2016-12-17

Comments:1201 - not a hard class if you just study, menken is sweet and her tests are straight from her notes, speakers, and adaptive test preps. just take notes and study and you'll be fine.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2016-12-13

Comments:BUS 1201 - This class is fairly easy as long as you are okay putting in just a little bit of work. The only grades are the online homework assignments (which are most common sense and when they aren't, the answer is basically word for word in the textbook) and the tests. The test are based on the note outlines she provides, the speakers and the online Adaptive TestPrep. Fill in the notes during class, or fill them in for HW out of the textbook, know the general idea of each of the speakers, and take advantage of the TestPrep and you will do just fine in the class.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2016-11-21

Comments:1201 - She teaches us like we are in kindergarten, but she will admit to that. Her tests are based almost entirely on the note outlines she provides and a few questions from the speakers that come. If you fill in the blanks on the notes (occasionally having to look something up in the textbook) you will be fine. I made notecards of just her notes for each test and made a high A on every test. The homework assignments are online and you have 2 tries for each question and if you do it with friends then you are basically guaranteed a 100 on each assignment which really adds up. There is also no exam for this class.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2016-11-17

Comments:1201 - Mencken's tests are unnecessarily difficult. While she is an awesome person, her teaching isn't great. She gets very easily distracted and your left to teach yourself the material. The best way to do well in this class is to learn the book and do all the homework. She doesn't put in the homework and clicker question grades until the end of the semester, so that should (will boost me to a B+) boost your grade a ton! Study for her tests!! There's no final though, so that rocks.  - Grade In Class:C+

Date: 2016-04-13

Comments:1201 - Honestly, you are going to have to teach yourself the material. Professor Mencken is very nice but the class is sort of unorganized and hectic. You are going to have to take her freshmen year anyway, but be prepared to work hard because there is little teaching support for the class.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2015-12-15

Comments:1201 - Really nice and personable professor! She does super well for having 1200 Kids every MW. Only a little online homework each Tuesday, other than that, no work! Tests can be difficult if you don't study though! but take her! If your a business major, you really have no other option any way! but rest easy, she's good  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2015-11-02

Comments:1201 - Menken is a really good teacher! There is homework due once a week that was all on line straight from the book. Her lectures are pretty manageable and the tests come from her lecture notes. She's the only teacher for this course but honestly she is a great teacher!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2015-10-14

Comments:BUS 1201 - Seems like an easy class but in no way a blowoff. You actually have to study for the tests and make sure you go to class because the attendance points can make or break your grade.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2015-05-19

Comments:1201 - This course is required for a business degree, and I am really glad it is. I think it is very helpful (way more than 1101) in discovering what "business" is all about. We go through each major and skim the surface giving everyone and idea of what it involves. Each Monday there is a guest speaker (usually a CEO or a CFO) of a company and gives advice and talks about their experiences, which I really enjoyed because it helped me see what different majors looked like in the professional world. Wednesdays she would lecture, which was basically straight from the book. You have to go to class everyday because she takes attendance and has daily "clicker questions" that factors into your grade. She provides outlines online to fill out during lecture, which really helps when studying for the test. She gives 3 tests, no final, and they are not that bad- just study and be sure to study the MyBizLab questions well. She assigns about 20 questions and a simulation online each week (due each Tuesday) but it usually takes less than an hour and you have unlimited attempts. This class isn't hard, if you put forth a little effort, you should get an A.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2015-05-12

Comments:1201 - THIS CLASS SUCKS. But you have to take it as a business major. STUDY FOR THE FIRST TEST! The first one blows, I got a 55 on my first test, usually everyone does super bad on the first one. The second one is way easier, then the 3rd is hard again. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK, me and my friends never touched it, huge waste of money. She gives you notes and quizzes to practice. Also, show up to class and get a 100 on your clicker questions and hws, thats how i pulled off my B in this class.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2015-05-04

Comments:1201 - Mencken is a good teacher. She assigns homework that's due every tuesday and there are 3 exams in the semester. I really enjoyed this class because you get a nice overview of all the different types of business. you have to keep up on the reading! I also think this class should be more than 2 credits due to how much outside reading there is. all in all, she is a good teacher. tests are a little harder but she offers extra credit. go to class.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2014-12-09

Comments:1201 - This class sucks. Sorry about it. Homework is always due Tuesday night at midnight and you have to read the chapter and do a warm up, simulation, and quiz. They're very easy. She teaches exactly from the reading guide she gives but on the plus side you're not missing much if you skip class. Except for the clicker questions. It's like five or six questions every day. Not a big deal. Just a boring, sucky class taught by an economics professor.  - Grade In Class:A
