Comments:FRE 2310 - Dr. Collins is one of my favorite professors of all time. After reading some of the reviews, people seem to complain about the flipped classroom model. While there is an in-class quiz at the beginning of most classes when you go over a new concept or conjugation, she explains it very well, and there are so many of these quizzes throughout the semester, and they are worth so little overall that it's not a huge issue. At the 2310 level, the French is challenging, as it is expected that you are able to hold a basic conversation (as she will teach the majority of the class in French, unless the class is severely struggling with a concept), but she wants you to succeed, and always is willing to help when struggling. I love how Dr. Collins formats the class, because at this level, we need to understand how to go through different points of learning a language. There are short in class essays (3 in the semester), homework due most class times, a short quiz most days, culture quizzes, chapter quizzes (think exam), and then a written and oral portion for both the midterms and the final. Whilie I understand this sounds like a lot she allows revisions for the culture quizzes, chapter quizzes, essays, and homework to get a ton of points back. She wants you to succeed, and does NOT want you to leave the course feeling defeated. If you need that 3rd semester of French, please let it be Dr. Collins!  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:4332 - Dude she’s awesome. She definitely has a more dry sense of humor and isn’t warm and fuzzy, but she is so helpful and really goes out of her way to help you succeed if you just ask!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2310 - Man, this class requires a little bit more work than I would have hoped. Madame Collins is more into the teach-yourself and ask me questions after approach so you should expect to basically diy this class. Each lecture she expected you to know AND understand all new material (a lot of pop quizzes - almost every class). There is also a lot of online homework, but it's is pretty easy (plus you can see the answers after the 1st submission and re-submit to get a 100). We also did a lot of cultural assignments which were a lot of work. I would have preferred to use that class time to actually learn material.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2310 - I took 4 years of advanced french in high school and managed an A ... no, she doesn't teach much and there's a lot of outside of class learning but it isn't horrible if you just devote the time and use resources (textbook, youtube) to understand the material. The tests weren't impossible if you study hard enough and totally know the information. The tests were very frequent, which meant they were short and you don't have to study a ton of topics for each test, they mainly focus on one topic in depth. Sometimes pop quizzes and a good amount of homework. Her class is manageable if you're willing to put in the work to earn an A. Not an easy french class but not the worst either.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:FRE 2310 - Took 4 years of advanced french in high school and was not an easy A at all... Love Dr. Collins. She’s super funny and made class very entertaining. But her teaching sucks. We spent the first 20 min of class talking about what we did during the weekend, then she would go over something for 5 minutes on the chalk board and then we’d do a random useless class activity. A lot of homework. Very annoying and frustrating online stuff. Grammar tests are impossible. She takes off so many points for little mistakes. Highest grade would usually be like an 88. Collins is fine, just take someone else if possible.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:FRE 2320 - Professor Collins has no teaching ability at all. All she does is post videos online and expect us to grasp all of the information before coming to class. There is very little, if any, classroom instruction. Her grading is completely inconsistent. On one test she will mark off 5 points for a tiny grammar mistake and the next test you won't miss anything at all. When you ask for help or ways to improve, all she tells you is to watch the videos 10+ times or google your questions. Also, she doesn't curve tests!! The highest grade in the class would be like a 90 and she would refuse to award even a few point curve. Do not take this class if you care about your GPA or don't have the time to devote 4+ hours a day to a single class.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2320 - Do not take this class if you care about your GPA. Professor Collins is a nice person but she does not care if you are struggling. She doesn't actually teach in class, she posts video lecture quizzes that you're supposed to use to teach yourself BEFORE you come to class or you will have no idea what's going on. There's so much homework. Seriously. So much. She's a TOUGH grader and there's a test almost every single week so you will get destroyed on test grades. I've never gotten anything lower than an A- in French with average effort but I had to work 3x as hard to get a B (barely) in this class. But like I said she's a really nice person.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:Conversation - I love madame Collins! We just had to bring a little article/song/poem to class each day to talk about. She grades you against yourself and how well you improved. She'll ask you the same questions at the beginning, middle, and end of the semester and tell you exactly what you need to work on to improve. She is very positive and realizes that none of us are perfect speakers. Also just a very fun and warm person, take her!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Adv. Comp and Conv - Dr. Collins is a great teacher. This was her first upper level course to teach and she did a solid job. The class is discussion based. You discuss current news events and build your own vocab assignments. You keep a weekly writing journal on anything you want. She grades fairly easy on papers, but you do have to write 4 3-4 page papers throughout the semester. We watched a movie for a week during the middle of the semester which was nice. You will improve your french and have a great time in this class as long as you don't dread speaking out loud.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:French 3 - This professor is really weird. Sometimes she's super aloof and then she tries too hard to be cool. She ain't cool. You can tell she doesnt like students. She's boring most of the time and then she tries real hard to be "fun". She's not that bad in general but I've seen better.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:2310/2320 - I love Professor Collins just as a person, first off. She's hilarious and pretty young, so she still acts like one of us a lot of the time. That includes complaining when she hasn't had coffee and not feeling like going to class on Mondays. She's really sarcastic and pretty sassy though too. As a teacher, I'd have to say she's one of the better ones here. Class is generally pretty enjoyable, and she's definitely flexible with her office hours and will try to accommodate you if she doesn't have hours during a time when you're available. She assigns a lot of online homework, but I knock it out on the weekend and don't worry about it during the week. I've only actually cracked the textbook a few times because the lessons she teaches are pretty interactive and engaging. She assigns compositions, but you can take it to her office to review it, takes it as a rough draft grade, and gives you a chance for a rewrite, so you essentially have three shots to make an A on those, and they're a pretty decent portion of the grade. She does love giving pop quizzes so make sure you're at least familiar with the materials she says to have read on the syllabus when you come to class. The quizzes and tests aren't unreasonable. I made a lot of B's and still pulled an A in the class thanks to composition and daily grades. And both semesters are basically formatted the same way.   - Grade In Class:A
