Comments:1320 - DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU HAVE HIM DROP BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE. I am being so serious I took him for PRECAL and it affected my GPA. I did not take a math my senior year and wanted to take precal instead of calc to refresh my memory and his class is AWFUL. He is NOT a good professor and his exams look SO much different than anything that you will do in class. He never explains what you should study for the exam jsut gives you random "clues" or hints. He has a quiz every friday and it is the worst thing ever, it is 4-5 questions and you have absolutly no idea what is on it or what is going to appear, if you do not know it and miss one you autimally get a c on it from not knowing one question. He doesnt give a lot of homeowrk but your whole grade is based on the AWFUL exams that he gives. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE save youself and drop before it is too late, PLEASE  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:MTH 1320 - Mr. Bowen is a really funny guy who will always make your class fun and engaging. He isn't the best lecturer though, and going to his office hours are definitely the way to go if you want to understand something. The tests were very challenging and often formatted different than what was presented in class and on the homework. Mr. Bowen expects you to put a lot of work in outside class and read the textbook/watch videos.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:MTH 1320 - What do I say about Bowen. Terrible Professor. Decently funny guy? You come into your 8 AM class still trying to just wake up and you are immediately met with the most energetic human on the planet, asking you to answer problems and clapping and jumping when you do things right. IF that sounds like the class for you, go for it. His tests do not align with what he teaches--well, they do, they are just ten times harder / sometimes there is other content on them that we haven't talked about in three months. I BARELY got a B - in this class. Getting hit with Professor Ancira AND Bowen in one semester was not on my bucket list for 2025.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:MTH 1320 - Trace Bowen is genuinely the worst math professor I have ever had. He is super nice, fun, and energetic, but I genuinely did not learn a single thing from him. Every test was a toss up of what was going to be on it. Every time there is something on the test that we have never been taught. He teaches like we already know everything in PRE CALCULUS. We are in there because we know nothing and need help. He made a super easy class super hard.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:Calc - Worst Proffesor I've had at Baylor. Don't trust the other reviews saying he is funny, he is just annoying. He does a flipped classroom where you have to teach yourself calculus from the textbook at home and then do practice problems during class. If you try to ask questions he doesn't help. The practice problems don't match what's on the test.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1320 - It’s true, Mr. Bowen is a great guy but bad professor. I found his teaching method alright but the thing that got me was his tests. I never got a B on any of his test dispite studying for over 10+ hours on some of them. I was also never able to finish his long tests in the class time he allowed. My highest test grade in his class was the department final. The final was easier because it was far less detail than his unit tests. If my best test grade was the final, that should tell you something about his unit tests. I wouldn’t recommend taking this class unless your ok with getting a C after dumping a lot of time and effort into this class.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:Precalculus 1320 - Bowen while being super nice and funny, the comments are true, he is not the best teacher. I liked him as a person just not a teacher. Bowen was in all honesty, never giving us any material we were tested over. he would say study the book but use completely different techniques he expected you to use. He will not help you out much unless you fail a test to bring you up to a 60. The only kids who really do well in his class are the extreme math brain type people. Everyone else was constantly confused and felt unprepared for finals and tests. I would not take him again and I should have taken everyones advice to drop when I had the chance.  - Grade In Class:D

Comments:MTH 1320 - Prof Bowen is really helpful, he treat every student friendly and always willing to help us to solve problem. His class is fun and the assignment is easy to finish! He also easy to give us the high score on exam, trust me, his exam is really easy to handle if you have a good attitude on his class and assignments.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1320 - Absolutely the worst teacher I’ve ever had. He does not teach anything in class, he assigns you a chapter to read, but the textbook is so confusing and does things differently than he does it, then you’re expected to do homework, even though you’ve only learned from the textbook and not any actual instruction, and then all of class time is used to just go through homework problems, but because nobody knew how to do them because you’re never taught how to do them, you’re left lost and confused. His exams make up the majority of the grade and he’ll take off multiple points for small mistakes. His exam problems also do not reflect the examples in class and on homework, the homework has you work through the easiest ways and the exams have problems that add in a ton of different steps that we’ve never done before. He literally says that he makes the exams to trick us. The thing that saved my exam grade was to just write something on each question so that he could see I at least tried and he gave some points for that. His exams are also way too long, by the time class is over only like 2 people have turned in their exams so if you’re slow at math then you’re screwed. SI and the tutoring center are going to be lifesavers as tho use are the only places you’ll get any actual teaching. I barely passed the class and wish so badly that I had switched out to this class at the beginning of the year. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! I can guarantee that he is one of the worst math professors at baylor.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:MTH 1320 - Took his pre-cal class online. His lecture video is helpful and he's willing to help you when you reach out to him. His tests are not very hard as long as you know what you're doing. Also, I can tell he cares about his students when the class average on the exam is lower then he thought, and reached out to help everyone.   - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1309 - Mr. Bowen is not a mean person. But, instead of teaching, most of the class is spent making unfunny jokes. He has a "flip classroom" with no sort of tutorial besides the textbook. In addition to this, his office hours are online which is very unhelpful. My roommate was a much more effective calc teacher than Mr. Bowen. I would not recommend this class if you have any other option.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1320 - He is horrible, I recommend that you drop him immediately. It only took one class to realize that this was not the professor for me. He doesn't really teach/explain math. He refers you to the textbook and the pre-recorded videos he has made that are NOT interactive and hard to follow along with the textbook. His work is pretty average, but he doesn't seem approachable even though he says he is, gives the vibe that he would judge you for asking a question.  - Grade In Class:DROP

Comments:1320 - Bowen taught the necessary info and assigned homework that adequately prepared me for the exams. I had no background of precalculus and can confidently say that your arithmetic and mathematical reasoning will be well refined for Calculus if you plan on advancing further. My classmates made common complaints that Bowen didn’t teach us on the material but I simply cannot agree. I feel like students forget that this is college so the questions on exams are still doable but will require abstract thinking and much more studying than before to excel. Quizzes were challenging but are fine if did the homework beforehand. Bowen never once made me feel uncomfortable when I asked questions and is excellent at answering them in a professional manner. He does go quite quickly so try to have a brief understanding on the material before taking notes. This class was a perfect challenge so if you want guaranteed success on the department final and Calculus onwards take Mr. Bowen :)  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - I took this PreCal class because I did really well in PreCal in high school and had a good teacher in high school. I got an A in high school, so I thought I would take this class first semester to hopefully boost my GPA. The lecture didn’t really feel like we were learning anything, and Mr. Bowen would basically just answer and questions people had on the homework. I understood the material pretty well and did well on most quizzes. The tests however were worth a lot of the grade, and I felt like I couldn’t study enough to do well on the test. Mr. Bowen is super nice, but I felt like we didn’t learn much or even enough to do well on exams.  - Grade In Class:D

Comments:1309 - Under absolutely no circumstances should you be taking this professor. There are plenty of other calc profs. I beg you to take someone else. This man is BY FAR the worst prof I have had at Baylor. His lectures are the epitome of unhelpful, and they don't even scratch the surface of what he tests you on. Our class average on exams was consistently a full letter grade below the other calc profs if that tells you anything. Good chunk of the class (including myself) ended up dropping this class because they weren't passing.  - Grade In Class:DROP

Comments:1309 - One of the worst, if not the worst, teacher I have ever had. Never answers his email to address grading or class questions. Will spend five minutes going over notes for an entire lesson and then get upset when you don't understand the homework. If you understand the homework, you understand the quiz. However, the test almost always has questions that you have never seen. DO NOT RECCOMMEND. He always thinks he is teaching very well and then fails to answer any questions. I got an academic counselor, a tutor, and an upperclassmen to help me with this class and neither could really help because he rarely ever taught what was going to be on the test. There was only one exam where the class average was above a 70. Nearly half of the class dropped out because they could not pass the class by the end of the semester.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1320 - His tests dont match his teaching. what he teaches is what we learned in HS precal but the tests are college level. He never answers his email. No extra credit whatsoever. He told us if we found him at dr pepper hour then he would give us extra credit. He didnt show up and then in class said he doesnt offer extra credit.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:PreCal 1320 - Would not suggest you take this Professor - very unhelpful. His persona is great but his content is plain awful. His posted tutorials are vague and confusing and his suggested textbook does not clarify the help one needs to apply concepts properly. If you are coming from a statistics background from h.s. like me I suggest looking for another professor. If you expect to pass in this class, seek outside resources and tutorials ASAP to help you cover the material.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:1320 - Horrible, horrible teacher. I took his course completely online for the fall 2020 semester. He graded the quizzes and tests very petty. Things that the test didn\\\'t even ask for he\\\'d take a bunch of points off for. His videos that he made barely skimped over the material and were useless. For the 2nd exam of the semester, everyone failed the exam and it was too much to where he let us review the test and make corrections so it looked better on his part. The only way I made it through the class was one of my peers made a groupchat with my classmates and we helped each other out. Mr. Bowen does hold office hours, but sometimes he does not attend them. I had taken pre-calc in high school and my high school teacher was an extremely great teacher. In Mr. Bowen\\\'s pre-calc course we go over the same exact concepts but the way he words the exam are sooo confusing that it is hard to stay above a B in his class. Furthermore, each week there is a DB question which helped boost my grade. Along, with on every Thursday is a quiz over the first few sections of each chapter of that week. I do not suggest taking Mr. Bowen\'s class if you have never taken pre-calc in high school. Other than that if you do choose to take his class, just read over the textbook and do ALL the textbook questions at the end of the chapter. Mr. Bowen assigns some of these questions but skips over the questions that will be like the one\'s on the exam.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:1320 - Mr. Bowen is a good professor. I am not a math person whatsoever and I did fairly well in this class. He is a VERY lenient grader, and that is about it. His lectures are less than mediocre. Be prepared to use other sources to help you out. He is possible also the most unhelpful professors I have ever had. When it comes to canvas malfunctions and how it alters the quality of pictures, he will accuse you of not trying hard enough or caring and will not grade that assignment, although you did it. Due to the current circumstances, it is unfair. If he wants corrections, he should grade them. I didn't get an A bc of it. Other than that, his only pro is that he grades easy. Get this class over with and go about your life after.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1321 - As much as I hate calculus and want to hate this man for teaching it, I just can't. He's too cool. He's adorable and wears a bowtie to every class. One of them has Sudoku-tile print. He carries a TI-84 around in his back pocket. He used to be a weatherman. I just can't hate someone like that. I didn't take calc in high school and struggled a lot because of that. I feel like if I'd taken it already, he would be a great prof for a refresher course. He only gives one exam over each chapter you cover, and sometimes gives pop quizzes, so make sure you understand everything covered in the previous class. The exams sometimes felt like an unfair measure of my knowledge--I ran through almost every problem in the chapter until I could do them confidently without any issues for the last exam, then when I got the test I felt like I didn't recognize a lot of the material. Overall, good professor, awful class.  - Grade In Class:B
