Comments:Rel 1310 - Dr. King's Scriptures class is a struggle. I think he overcomplicates the class. We have lots of unnecessary group discussions that distract the class from what we are learning and most of what he discusses in class doesn't apply to what is on the tests. He assigns readings to do before every class and they are very complex, monotonous, and hard to read. Tests are very hard as there is a bunch of content on them, and he doesn't offer study guides. Don't take his class.  - Grade In Class:D

Comments:1310 - King sucks. Takes forever to get through each lecture, and have so much content to cover. I would say not to take as there are better professor to take for scriptures.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1314 - The small group discussions were always very interesting and I always learned new things but none of it ever applied to what was on the actual exams.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:BIC - All of these reviews are for religion courses, but I took Dr. King for WCI in BIC. He\'s a great professor and incredibly nice, but small groups were MUCH more discussion-based about the reading and hardly ever lecture style. This man does not lecture (in this class, at least) and will just cold call you for questions about the reading. However, the class was usually pretty laid back and I still enjoyed it and would take Dr. King again.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - I'm not a religion major and I barely managed to scrape by in Scriptures. So I was not super excited for this class. I would say the most important thing in this class is DOING THE READING. I would just block out an hour or two to do it and I would take notes. He has pop quizzes at the beginning of class, and if you do the reading, you'll do well on them (and if you're late to class you lose points on them, so it's in your interest to be on time). His tests are reasonably difficult because they involve a lot of dates and specific things you have to remember. He specifies what you need to know for tests during lectures, so take note of that. He holds a test review the last class before the test, however you have to come with your own questions. He usually curves, but not by a lot. He's pretty friendly and has a dry sense of humor, which was cool. I was always on the verge of falling asleep in his class which was because it was my last class of the day and he talks very softly. If you have him, you'll be alright.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1310 - Dr. King is a great guy, definitely worthy to weild Mjolnir, and knows scripture. The class is not a breeze, but he never promises that it will be.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1310 - King is a really nice guy who genuinely cares about the class and the content he is teaching. The only issue I have with his class is that during lectures he can be hard to understand because he speaks quickly and quietly. Other than that, his quizzes are easy if you do the reading (DO THE READING) and the tests, though not easy, they are doable. His course involves a lot of reading, normally at least a chapter and some change every class period. This reading makes his lectures easier to understand and because his tests are based on what he says in class, that is very important for success.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:1310 - Professor King is a really really nice guy and he cares about the class a lot. However he is very hard to take lectures from sometimes because he talks very softly and he goes very fast. You will have to read about 20 pages of a textbook before every class but you can also just look at what he lists to look for and read about those things in case he gives you a quiz. His tests are very hard, at least from my experience, and he doesn't hold review sessions like most teachers do. He will hold a session where you everyone comes in and they have to ask him questions about the content that may or may not even be on the test. I love the guy but if I was to take the class again I would probably choose an easier professors, there are definitely easier professors than Dr King.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1310 - He makes class incredibly interesting. My favorite class of the semester. All exams are only based on topics covered in class. Class had very interesting topics and going in I expected a Sunday-school type class. I could not have been more wrong, class is a very objective look at the bible and allows students to come up with their own conclusions on ideas they've been told their entire life how to think about. I cannot stress enough how much he made the class interesting and engaging.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:1310 - He's a very nice person and genuinely wants his students to learn, however, the reading workload for this class is enormous and it is really difficult to study for tests. He does do a test review. It is hard to catch up if you miss a class because the material he lectures over isn't on the corresponding power points. It makes it super hard to study for exams. He is also very monotone , so having him at 8 AM is not the move. He is a nice guy who wants you to be successful, but if you are a science major, I would not recommend. If you are excited for scriptures and interested in religion take him because he loves what he teaches.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1310 - Lecture based only, you have to show up to class. reading before every class with possible pop quizzes. tests are okay, need to study a lot for (MC and matching)  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:1310 - Dr. King is a great professor but having him at 8am can get kind of boring. He is very helpful and willing to help if you need it. His teaching style is just lectures over powerpoint presentations and the tests are lecture heavy. He expects you to pay attention in class and take good notes as discussion topics/info not explicitly on the powerpoint will sometimes end up on the test. Tests are made up of multiple choice questions and quotes from readings that you have to identify. There were around 5-8ish pop quizzes and 5 short essay assignments that all count towards quiz grades. He drops the lowest three quiz grades at the end so if you miss one it won't hurt. He counts participation into your grade (which is mainly attendance). Overall the class isn't too hard if you put forth the effort into studying and doing the readings.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - Dr. King is a pretty solid dude. Really nice and knows what he is talking about. That being said he is really challenging and VERY unbiased. By unbiased I mean if you consider yourself a strong Christian some of his views might make you mad. He goes just by the logic and the facts, and doesn't really account for faith, which is kind of the whole point of Christianity, so some parts of his class are confusing. You do learn a lot, and he drops 2-4 quiz grades. He is nice and accessible, a young guy with personality. If you take an 8 am, drink coffee because he talks quietly. No Homework outside reading and the occasional 1-2 page paper, which aren't that hard (one was on a Metallica song). Tests are multiple choice, pretty much from lectures and readings. You should be fine in the class, but it's not a blow off.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:REL 1310 - Dr. King (Professor when I had him) is a very nice guy but can be kind of boring in class--would not recommend choosing an 8 am with him. The homework is mostly reading to prepare for lectures in class, and he usually had a quiz each day. The quizzes were hard if you did not do the reading well. The tests were much easier and he usually threw out a couple questions. He is very helpful in office hours. Overall, meh, but if you make the effort to get to know him he will like you and be nice to you.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:REL1310 - I liked the class. His class was a little more difficult than I expected but it is possible to get a good grade. His test are almost all lecture based to be sure to pay attention in class!!!! It is not that hard to participate, I would email him any questions I had and he is very helpful. In class, you can ask simple question for clarification and it will count as participation. I would not recommend missing class though, so much material is covered each class! Also, READ because he does not warn you when there will be a quiz.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1310 - I got an A- in this class which is ok, but i really would have liked an A (< 92.5). This class isn't to hard if you don't care about your GPA but it is extremely hard to get a solid A. i did far above average on the tests, but i still ended up with an A-. He has pop quizzes every once in a while over the reading material that i did ok on. overall there isn't too much reading, and his tests are over lecture. There are definitely worse professors out there, but there are also better ones. note to future freshman,DO NOT underestimate how hard the religion classes are at Baylor. i am a biology pre/med major and this class was my hardest one of the semester. Dr. King is nice but kind of boring (this was not a fun 8 am class), and he counts participation into your final grade but you need to be a bible whiz to contribute to the conversation.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1350 - I absolutely dreaded this class. Dr. King is very monotone, plays favorites and awards a participation grade to a class with 75 students. The material seemed very straightforward during the lectures, but the tests were immensely harder than the quizzes and lecture material. This class was a very names and dates based class rather than actually historical events. Granted, he is a nice guy, but if you are looking an easy religion professor, don't take him. Yes, the material was interesting, but the class structure wasn't what I was anticipating, thus I wasn't very successful in it.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1310/1350 - Professor King is by far my favorite teacher and possibly one of my favorite human beings. I'm a neuroscience/pre-med major and I was dreading taking these classes, but he is so interesting, helpful, insightful, and eager to teach that it made religion my favorite class to go to each week. He gives lots of quizzes over the assigned readings, but for each quiz he sends out a reading guide with the exact terms from the reading that you need to know for the quizzes. He gives about a 2 1/2 hour long review session the night before each test and literally outlines the entire test for you. If you pay attention in his class and go to the review session, you'll for sure come out with an A. He also offers extra credit assignment and occasional extra credit on the quizzes. If you have the chance to, DEFINITELY take him, he's the best!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1350 - Honestly, his rating is probably the most insulting thing about him. He happened to be one of my favorite teachers, because he really cares about his students. He posts reading guides so you know when quizzes are, which aren't hard. Also before every exam he has a review session for about 2 1/2 hours, which I highly recommend you go to if you want a good grade. Before every session I have no idea what is going on in the class, but after the session I feel much more confident. He said himself that if you only go to the review session and skip every class you will do just fine on the test. Thats how much the review helps. TAKE HIM!!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - What the other comments say are pretty much spot on. Professor King is extremely knowledgeable on the material he covers, and he makes his class very interesting. I actually somewhat enjoyed learning the material. The problem was just there was so much of it. And his tests were very difficult. The class averages on most of the tests were 60 flat, and that's taking into account you have quite a few people who have a deep background of bible study. He did curve the tests, but the averages were still usually high 70s/low 80s with the curve, which is frustrating when you have friends in other 1310 classes with take home tests that everyone is getting As on. Take this class if you're actually interested in learning more about religion, and avoid this class if you want an easier professor or have a bunch of other hard classes. It was sometimes hard to balance the workload for this class with all my science classes.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1310 - Professor King was the hardest professor I had during my first semester. However, I learned the most from his class. The workload can be strenuous at times, but (for me anyways) it was interesting. His lectures covered most tests, but to make an A required doing the readings. He sincerely cared about the class and offered every opportunity to help them. This class was not an easy A, but if you're looking to learn, take Professor King.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - Professor King is a grad student so he is very excited about the material he is teaching. He assigned readings we were to complete and take an online quiz over before class each day. The workload in his class was VERY heavy in comparison to other classes. In the end, I had learned way more material than the other 1310 classes. Professor King went out of his way to answer questions via email and find a time to meet with me to answer questions. The final was super easy. In contrast, the tests leading up to the final were super difficult. I failed them all, but barely passed with the curve. Take King if you want to learn a lot and are willing to put in the extra effort. If you take him, I advise you to make a point to talk to him after class or meet with him during office hours to ask any questions you may have.  - Grade In Class:B+
