*A 5 star workload is an easy workload; a 3 star is average; whereas a 1 star workload is extremely hard.
Comments:3312 - This class thogh easy, is so boring she just talks at you for hours. At the start of the semester, it was intresting with a lot of group discussion, but that changed fast, and after 3 weeks we were just talked at for the entire class wich consisted of her ranting for 75 minutes. like I get you have opinyons but just ranting during class and having the same rants for multiple classes makes it feel like Groundhog Day and its really boring. Most of my class members also felt the same way about class. like we coudl do more socratic discutions or having actual deaf people come to class but no just videos articles and getting ranted to in class. would not recoment if you actuly want to lean about deaf culture or if you want an engadging class. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:asl 1 - amazing person, amazing teacher def take her if u have the chance. she is the kindest person and can teach amazingly. I loved her and am taking her again next sem. class is 2 exams, one final, some quizzes, but all easy. highly highly recommend - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:Deaf Culture - I would not recommend it. We spent the first 2 and a half months listening to her talk about her political views while teaching little to no topics on deaf culture. Not many grades at all so you have to make an A on almost every assignment to have an A in the class. Requires lots of reading and must know specific little things from the readings for the quizzes and tests. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:CSD 1305 - I really love Professor Abrahams! She is a perfect teacher for ASL 1. I had never taken ASL before and I don't consider myself to be a visual learner, but I found this class to be fairly easy to keep up with. You definitely have to stay on top of the homework and review everyday, but if you do that, I see no reason why you shouldn't have an A! Definitely study for the quizzes; i found them to be harder than the tests. However, Professor Abrahams is super sweet and a very good teacher! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Deaf Cultures - Loved the class but loved the professor more. She truly is passionate about what she teaches and cares about her students. She will allow you to redo some assignments because she prefers you understand the material rather than your grade. I looked forward to her class every week. She worked very well with me when I had to miss class a lot because I was constantly getting sick. Hands down the best professor at Baylor. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:ASL 2 - This is hands down the best professor I’ve had at Baylor. I took ASL as a foreign language requirement, and after taking Professor Abrahams class, I almost considered an ASL minor. She is so engaging with her students, and her passion for the language really rubs off on her students also. The first couple days of class may seem intimidating at first, but she will offer all the help you need in order to succeed in the class. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:CSD 1405 - This class was amazing but the workload is very large, I took this class online and there was not a day in the week where I was not doing some form of an assignment. Mrs. Abrahams is so sweet and I recommend this class - Grade In Class:A
Comments:ASL - Literally an amazing woman and an amazing teacher. Love her. My favorite teacher ever. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:ASL 1, 2, 4, Deaf Studies - Mrs. Abrahams is easily the best and my most favorite teacher in all of Baylor. She's very passionate about the Deaf community and culture and I loved being in her classes. The ASL class is silent to learn by immersion, which can be off putting for some people but is how all the ASL classes are in this department. She is reallllly good at acting things out to make sure everyone understands the concepts and tries really hard to read the room to make sure everyone's on the same page. If you raise your hand (or literally just make a confused face if you're embarrassed to raise your hand) she will literally take so long to make sure you understand. She is amazing and so kind hearted. You can't get away with doing nothing, but if you pay attention in class you shouldn't have any problems. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1405-2302, 3312, 4322 - Mrs. Abrahams is easily one of my favorite professors I've had during my entire time here at Baylor. She has high standards and expects your best effort but if you pay attention in class and are genuinely interested in learning, its an easy A. The curriculum is the same despite the professor: classes are total immersion/voice off, the point of the information they teach is not for regurgitation but comprehension. If she sees you putting in effort and participating, she'll give just as much effort to help you succeed. I'm a student through OALA as well and she works really well with you as long as you communicate with her. I'm a strong personality so I appreciate the fact that she's the same way but if you're someone that can't handle a big personality you may butt heads with her. If you are actually seriously interested in learning ASL and are willing to practice and be involved, you will no doubt learn insane amounts of valuable information from her. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1405 - There is no talking in this class at all ever, you just have to be really good at charades because rarley will she ever show you an image to go with the word. Mrs. Abrahams cares that we know ASL is important as a language for the deaf community but she does not care about you or your confusion. The class is shaped like a U so when she calls people out she knows won't get the sign everyone can see and there is partner work to practice signing but since no one else knows the signs its just a mess. But the worst thing she did was mark down my participation points because I didn't understand things because she signs so fast then will not repeat herself. This class seems like an easy A by the ratings but honestly I wish I had listened to the negative review because you really should run far away. This class honestly has really made me hate ASL when I went in wanting to learn. The only good part of this class was Larry because he actually cares enough to acknowledge confusion and correct wrong signs. This class is a lot of work because you have to constantly be practicing and can't memorize like you could with spanish through flashcards. She is also late every single class but if you are a second late she marks it then two make an absense. - Grade In Class:C
Comments:ASL 1 - I loved Abrahams. She is so funny and relational. She teaches her class very fast paced and you jump right into ASL from the first day of class (I never knew what her voice sounded like until the end of the semester). She starts the first day of class signing which surprised me, but do not worry because eventually you will learn enough signs to be able to communicate which is so cool. She definitely teaches ASL effectively and her class is also fun. I loved learning ASL with her and plan to try to take her for all 4 semesters of ASL - Grade In Class:A
Comments:3302 - Abrahams is a very relatable teacher. She's very nice, funny, and smart but don't think her class is a blowoff--she can be a stickler about grading! She was a University Scholar in her student years at Baylor so she has the same expectations for her own students. I have learned a great deal in her class because she doesnt just stand there and lecture; there is so much stimulating class discussion which results in deep learning. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:CSD 4322 - Although I had heard horror stories about Professor Abrahams, I tried to go into the class with an open mind. She really surprised me--I highly enjoyed her teaching style and looked forward to the class every day. Professor Abrahams is very intelligent and appreciates the humor in a smart ass comment here and there. I found the workload to be very manageable, grading was fair, and the class was actually pretty fun. It was mostly project based and I feel like my skills have improved after a semester in her class. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1405 (ASL 1) - I love Professor Abrahams! She is so sweet and kind, also pretty funny. Her and Larry (TA) teach ASL 1 and it was a great experience. They are both pretty expressive and will bend over backwards to help you understand. It was so fun learning through them. There is basically no workload except for video learning through a DVD and a workbook along with it, but if you do it, you geta 100% on the assignment even if its wrong. TAKE ABRAHAMS! - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:ASL IV - Abrahams is the best ASL teacher HANDS DOWN. She is nice and funny and unlike the other professors, she isn't scary and intimidating. She loves theater so she is very expressive which is a good thing, trust me. Even if you are totally lost, you'll understand something because she is a great storyteller. Be an engaged student - practice signs as she signs them and be respectful and you'll do just fine. ASL I & II are all receptive, but III & VI are expressive in the lab. IV also has a big section on deaf culture and that just makes it more interesting! :) Do yourself a favor and take Abrahams, seriously. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:3312 - Miss. Abrahams is the worst teacher in the department . . . but you have no option but to take her eventually. She is late to every class but it is important that you are on time because if you arent there before she finally shows up, you will be counted late and she will make comments about it. As far as I am concerned, the only thing that differentiates Miss. Abrahams from a college freshman is that she knows sign language. She's playing teacher. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:CSD: 2301 - Take Mrs. Abrahams for ASL!! She is a great teacher, and really wants you to learn the language and do well. She is full of energy and is great at explaining new topics, and making sure you understand her. Like any Sign Language class, there is no speaking, but it really does help you learn the material. Sign language three is almost exclusively video projects, where I & II were exclusively tests. Overall, Mrs. Abrahams has been my favorite ASL professor, and I absolutely recommend her! - Grade In Class:A
