Comments:1309 - Semi-difficult course due to its nature, however it was made harder based on course set-up. Quizzes every class session, homework due every class session, four tests, then a departmental final. Exams were large percentage and homework was smaller percentage.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1309 - Run! I had already taken calculus before and found it incredibly challenging. The good thing about her class is that homework is only 2% of your overall grade, so really isn't important, but even if you know what you're doing, you could still end up with a bad grade.  - Grade In Class:F

Comments:1321 - do NOT take her whatsoever. I had to get a W on my transcript because of how ridiculous she is with teaching this course. she rushes through notes with minimal explanation and she hardly gives partial credit. if you do ANYTHING wrong on her homework quizzes she will take off a ridiculous amount of points. while she was a little helpful in office hours, she was not helpful enough with helping me through the course.  - Grade In Class:DROP

Comments:1321 - Do yourself a favor and avoid taking her at all costs.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:1321 - She is by far the worst professor I have ever had at Baylor. She makes everything way harder than it needs to be. Other Calculus professors drop multiple quizzes/homeworks, while she only drops 3. The quizzes are hard questions she makes herself, and grades with a vengeance. Her class notes aren't even from the book, which is what the DEPARTMENTAL final is based upon. She does not replace any exams with the final, or drop any exams, like every other professor does. So your grade is basically your grade, don't expect any help from her. It's absolutely ridiculous how hard she makes the class. I would never in my lifetime recommend taking Katie Elliott for any class ever.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:1321 - Half of her class dropped. Run as fast as you can.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1321 - Do you want a professor that makes your life so much harder than it already is? Well take her! She makes homework a grade, when most other professors give it out as a completion grade. On top of that, you will have a quiz ever single class period over the homework, but unlike other professors that literally give the exact same questions from the homework, Elliott makes her own difficult problems to make your life SO much more stressful. She gives out these unhelpful class notes every class period and pulls examples from thin air to work on, versus the actual book examples. Her tests are ridiculously difficult, and she is extremely nitpicky with her grading. You can get every single answer right, but if you don't show every little step, a crazy amount of points are deducted. She takes the course entirely too serious for most students that are only required to take Calculus because it is a degree requirement. This is our last math course we will ever take, why make it so difficult? Do not take Elliott if you value your time and GPA.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:1321 - Her teaching style is awful. I took her for Calc because she had a good rating, but don’t be deceived. She works random example problems on her notes, not questions like the homework. Her tests are super hard for no reason, and on top of that she is SUCH a harsh grader. She will take off point for every little thing. Even if you get the right answer on a problem, but you don’t do it EXACTLY how she wants, the problem is counted wrong. She has a quiz over the homework every single class period, and the quizzes aren’t homework problems, like in other Calc classes. They’re questions she pulls out of the sky. 0/10 would recommend taking her, try taking this class with someone else because you will hate your life if you take her.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:MTH 1309 - She is a moderate Calculus professor. She is very knowledgeable in the subject, but sometimes it is difficult for her to explain the intricate concept of Calculus if you want to know how things work and why you do certain stuff, but she makes sure you know all you need to know for the class. You will do very good on the test if you know all the materials. She will take points off on the tests and the quizzes if you forgot to write small things like dy/dt, parenthesis, or units. She is always available during her office hour. However, she is not very helpful when it comes to answering your questions on the homework. She will give you clues and tips on how to solve the problems, but the hints are very subtle, and sometimes you may not completely understand the problems, and you will have to get help from the math tutoring center.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1322 and 2321 - Ms. Elliott is a grad student that is very helpful when you ask her questions. She may not explain some of the difficult material clearly the first time, but she always is willing to explain again until you understand. Ask questions in class, attend office hours, or schedule an appointment with her! She has a strict no electronics and no disruptions policy while she's lecturing. Approximately 15 homework problems were collected every week for a grade. Problems were not easy, but that will be true no matter the professor. Tests were mostly straightforward if you understood the homework and class examples. She awarded partial credit on all test problems that were at least started correctly.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1322 - As long as you pay attention in class, understand the homework, and go to office hours for help then you should do well. The exams reflect the material learned in class and on the homework. She is always willing to help and will slow down to explain the material if need be. I highly recommend taking her!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Pre-calc - Ms. Elliott has to be the greatest math teacher I have ever had. She goes out of her way to make sure that you do well and understand all the topics. She goes quickly through the lesson and gives plenty of examples. I am basically retarded when it comes to math but she worked with me and made me like math and she kept me motivated. I have had her for two years now and I plan on taking all of her classes that she teaches. If you even begin to struggle GO TO HER OFFICE HOURS!! She will help you till you understand the material. It may seem like a lot of homework but, she wants to make sure that you have seen everything that the department can throw at you during the final.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:1321 - I had grad student Katie Eliot for Calc 1. I didn't take precal or calc in high school, so this class was extremely challenging for me. Her lecturing skills are mediocre in that they are mostly just paraphrases of the book. She's not good at "telling it to me like I'm a 10 year old" if that makes sense. She has 5 point quiz over the homework everyday, and since I had her at 8am, i missed a lot of them and it hurt my grade. Because I was so lost, I spent so much time in her office hours to the point that we started setting up a regular appointment. If you take the initiative to go to office hours, she will help you answer any question with a great attitude, no matter how stupid the question may be. The homework is extremely challenging and would often times take me 2-3 hours per problem set. To finish the homework, I had to go to office hours. She has 4 tests (Which she writes) and a department wide final(which she does not write). For the first test, I made a 100, because I was so lost during the first unit that I had to go to her office hours all the time. When the next chapters came up, I got the hang of it, and consequently visited her office hours less. This caused me to get a 70 and an 80 on those subsequent exams. If you want an A, there are no shortcuts. Go to her thursday night SI, go to her office hours, go to her review sessions, do the homework, show up 5 minutes early to class, be wide awake.  - Grade In Class:B
