Comments:ACC 4330 (Audit) - I loved having Dr. Thomas. Sometimes hard to pay attention to in class because of the time I had it (afternoon right after lunch) but I learned a lot. Going into it I thought I was going to hate audit but ended up enjoying it. He assigns you groups for the class project and I'm so glad he has you turn in each section throughout the course of the semester because it's relevant to what you're learning in class at that point and then you're not trying to do it the last couple weeks of the semester while studying for tests and finals like the other class did. Tests are hard but study the Bisk guide he gives you (all the multiple choice and simulations!), Becker questions, and things he points out in the notes. Also do the extra credit because it can add up to 10 points to your test score. He loves to talk to students in his office so go ask him questions. He will explain answers that you got wrong on tests and will sometimes give points back if it's not a good question or lots of other students missed it. He does go over the audit risk equation every class but you will never forget it for the tests. I highly recommend taking Dr. Thomas!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:ACC 2303 - I strongly disagree with the first review written about Dr. Thomas. It is NOT an accurate portrayal of him at all. Dr. Thomas wrote the Financial accounting textbook, has been teaching Financial Accounting for 90 semesters (not including summer school), and had his own accounting practice before, so needless to say he's very experienced, knowledgeable, and passionate about accounting. Also, our SI instructor told me that Dr. Thomas' students always score the highest on the departmental final, so he really does prepare us well. In addition, Dr. Thomas does really care about getting to know you, and he is very very compassionate and informative if you have any questions about accounting in the business world. The class is not super easy and requires reading the chapters and doing the hw. Before every class, he expects you to read the chapter and take a short, My Accounting Lab quiz which is usually multiple choice. Also, if you take these quizzes and get over 90% on the ones that the particular test covers, he will add 5 extra credit percentage points to your test. While he may be one of the more difficult professors in the department to take (or so I've heard), his extra credit definitely helps your grade, and his "difficulty" prepares you well for the departmental final and ACC 2304. Also, he is a super sweet, older man who in his free time teaches Sunday School and sings in his Church's choir. If you get the chance you should definitely take Dr. Thomas, because if you work hard, an A is definitely doable!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Audit - The other review is not an accurate depiction of Dr. Thomas at all. He genuinely cares about his students, and he wants you to succeed. The class is just really hard no matter who you take, and clearly someone was bitter about making a B+, god forbid. Also, he definitely gives back points on bad test questions.. As far as his "teaching ability" is concerned, think about how hard it is to make audit interesting. It's pretty tough, so don't go in with the expectation that learning audit is going to be a blast. With that being said, there are benefits of taking Dr. T. One of them is that you do the audit project (like SUA) throughout the semester rather than all at once at the end of the semester. Even though his tests are hard, they are designed to prepare you for the CPA exam. In hindsight I'm thankful for that. Finally, he loves it when people go to his office. Go chat with him. He's a cool guy.   - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:4330 - **Disclaimer, do not take this dinosaur of a professor** This is honestly the worst professor I ever had at Baylor. I am a senior and before this class maintained a 4.0 in all my accounting classes. He ripped me from the joy of walking across the stage with such an honor. How, you may ask? Because he is the worst teacher with the worst grading policies I have ever seen. To start, he is horrible at teaching concepts. Each day we came to class he pointed out the stupid audit risk equation (AR=IRxCRxDR) and drew it on the board. He then proceeds to repeat himself EVERY SINGLE CLASS about the equation, and he doesn't actually teach you new concepts. To learn in his class you have to teach yourself everything. That being said, it's almost impossible to teach yourself audit to the extent that he tests you over it. His test questions are extremely tricky. When you try to talk to him about the questions, he is unreasonable about giving points back. For example, on three out of the four exams we took I found questions where none of the answer choices worked. When I pointed that out he told me, and I quote, "It must have been a bad question. I shouldn't have put it on there, but I'm not taking it off the test." It's this unreasonable attitude that pissed me off the most. If you have the option of taking another professor I implore you do so. For my semester MacGregor was the other audit professor, and I truly wish I had known to take him instead of this old fogey.  - Grade In Class:B+
