Comments:JOU 2303 - I am absolutely dumbfounded reading some these reviews. This is the worst professor I have had at my time at Baylor. It almost seems as though she makes up her presentations as she goes. Her grading system is completely based off favoritism, so if you do choose to take her make sure to get on her good side. I have always considered myself to be a strong writer and this class left me questioning myself at every turn. I would avoid taking this professor at all costs.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:2303 - I LOVE professor Hernandez. I know that previously this class may have had a heavier workload, but I personally felt it was very manageable. She is harsh if you don't try your best, but if you put in effort and work hard she will go the extra like to help you. She has done so much cool stuff in her life and is an amazing journalist! I so, so recommend her. I learned so much in this course. We had about 1 story/ 1.5 weeks. Plenty of time to work on it, and we had the final project which really wasn't bad. Overall this class was awesome.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2303 - I'm making my review before the semester ends because I understand that people are registering soon and it's her last semester teaching this class in Fall 2019. TAKE. HER. She is by far my favorite professor on Baylor and I have a PR minor, journalism isn't even my major. She is extremely helpful and willing to help you succeed and build the necessary writing and journalism skills. The workload might have been harder before but since she is about to leave Baylor, we only write a handful of stories throughout the semester and thats it for homework. No other projects besides the final one, which is again, just writing stories. I love her, she is a badass journalist and she will make the start of your journalism career amazing.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2303 - Professor Hernandez's class is not impossible, despite what her rating may make you think. She expects a lot of her students, but it is ultimately beneficial to you as a writer. You will have about one article due a week starting a few weeks into the semester- do not expect an A on many of these as she grades them as if they were to be published. You will have random pop quizzes on current events- not gonna lie, these were rough. The average was never good (sometimes below an F), but there are a lot, so if you keep up with your reading of the NYT and listen to NPR (which she'll assign at the beginning of the year), you will do ok. She does offer some extra credit opportunities despite what her syllabus says. She's a nice woman and wants you to succeed, so don't be too intimidated to ask for help. There's no tests or final.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2303 - The bottom line is, Hernandez is so passionate about journalism that she wants her students to be as well, and holds them to very high standards because of that. She genuinely cares and will work very hard to make sure that your writing improves, but she expects the same effort from her students. At first she can be intimidating, but she's honestly a great professor and I feel like I have learned so much even though her classroom is far from traditional. Not the easiest A in this class, but by far attainable if you put in any effort at all to improve.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2303 - I was skeptical to take Dr. Hernandez at first, but now that I'm finishing the class, I don't regret it. Although she may be very unorganized and doesn't have the best teaching skills, she really cares about her students and wants for them to succeed. That being said, none of her students have ever failed the exit exam, so that's something to keep in mind. She's such a sweet individual and I recommend taking her because, in the long run, she'll be a great resource in journalism as your career moves forward.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2303 - Prof. Hernandez has incredible experience and goes above and beyond to help her students that truly care succeed. If you are attentive, do your work, and participate, she will work with you to make sure you are learning and growing as a writer. Overall amazing!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:JOU 2303 - Prof. Hernandez is an excellent teacher. She has very high standards for all of her students. That being said, she will not take mediocre and half-assed work. When you get into class each day, she expects you to be reading the New York Times or the Lariat. If not, she will give you a news quiz over current events for the day. Sometimes I felt like she was just giving us random assignments, but at the end of the semester everything made sense. I felt very prepared for the department exit exam. Her classes always do better than all of the others. I don't think she chooses favorites but you can tell if you're on her good side or not. Always make sure your copy is tightly edited (I'm talking edited at least 5 times) before turning it in. This will really help your grade. At the end of the semester, she won't give you an arbitrary number grade, but a grade based on your improvement and growth which is awesome because if you seek her out and get help from her and demonstrate your learning, you will be fine. She is an amazing journalist and outstanding teacher who wants nothing but the best from her students.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2303 - Professor Hernandez was a successful journalist and expects everyone to write to her standard. This is an intro to journalism class and not everyone in there was journalism majors. She tells you grades do not matter and then hands out Bs and Cs because that's what she got when she took this course. Take Brad Owens  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:2303 - Macarena was one of my least favorite professors that I've had at Baylor. She is very unorganized and overall kind of unprofessional and rude. She expected us to be able to do a bunch of after school stuff and that simply was not possible for me because I am involved in a bunch of organizations. When you ask her for help, she will help you but I always felt that she was very condescending and rude. Her grading was harsh, which is fine if you want true journalism editing and criticism, but I never felt like I was improving despite all of her "help" that she claimed she was giving. She offers a bunch of extra credit, but I'm pretty sure we never received any of it because she is so unorganized and would forget she promised half of the stuff she did. She picks favorites and will dote on them in class and essentially make everyone else feel bad. Your grade is essentially based on how much she likes you - She liked me a lot, but I never had time to get all of the work done like the Instagrams and stuff, hence my B+. Journalism is my major and she honestly almost made me want to switch, not because she gave a lot of work, but because she made me feel like I was hopeless and couldn't improve.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:2303 - Unprofessional and unorganized. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. She loses assignments on the daily, never responds to e-mails, shows favoritism, and is just overall very unprofessional. Taking her class is definitely my biggest regret as a Baylor student.  - Grade In Class:B+
