Comments:modern middle east - very nice and sweet lady. She is very passionate about what she teaches. I think we had one test the whole semester, and it was a take home final. Class was a bit unstructured, but very fun and engaging. If you have a chance to take her do it, it will be huge GPA booster. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:HIS 3312 - I literally love Dr. Lacy! She is the sweetest and one of my favorite professors. Her class is not difficult at all. We only had 4 easy quizzes on canvas out of the entire semester. We had only a few assignments which consisted of reading summaries (can be in bullet points). The final is a research paper and a take home exam btw! Take her :) - Grade In Class:A
Comments:MES 2301 - Dr. Lacy is such a sweet professor and very understanding. You get from the class what you put into it. Though the class may be a little hard to follow along with sometimes, that does not mean she is scatterbrained. Everything we discuss in class ties into our readings or the current situation in the Middle East! I would say she does a pretty amazing job at simply telling us the historical facts. She appreciates when students form their own opinions. Our homework primarily consists of response papers on assigned readings and the occasional quiz. Do not take this class if you are looking for an easy A, or just a class to fill credits. You wont enjoy it. Be interested in the Middle East, and you will absolutely love Dr. Lacy and this class. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:2301 - The class can become very boring as it consists entirely of Dr.Lacy teaching only her own opinions instead of the big picture. Syllabus with any kind of calendar wasn't posted until about halfway through the class, canvas page is very disorganized and hard to use. Assignments varied from short response papers on readings and videos usually due every few weeks but again everything about this class was inconsistent with the exception of her blatant inability to teach history without being biased. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:HIS 3325 British Empire - Dr. Lacy is a sweet woman who makes it very clear she wants the best for everyone. The course load is not bad at all as she will usually post an article or a chapter in a book to read and then you have to write a 1-2 page "response paper" on the reading. These are not that bad as she only posts them once every 2 weeks. I will warn you, DO NOT BUY THE BOOKS. There is no point because she will ask how readings are going but never actually talks about them/uses them for graded assignments. This leads into how frustrating her classes are. First off, she did not provide a syllabus until 3 weeks after the class started and never followed it. Her lectures are very unorganized and she is clearly scatter brained. She goes on tangents that have nothing to do with the class making the class feel like a complete waste of time. The whole semester she talked about a research project and presentation but never gave any criteria or made it clear what exactly we were supposed to do. There were times I sent emails asking about these things/other questions and she would take days to respond or would just not respond at all. Overall, she is a nice lady with good intentions, HOWEVER, the class was very frustrating and unproductive. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Middle East - Dr. Lacy is literally the SWEETEST woman ever. She is so great, take advantage of getting to know her during her office hours. Seriously one of the best humans and professors at Baylor. I always enjoyed going into her class. She was able to create a community in the class during COVID that none of my other teachers were able to replicate. It was so nice being able to make friends while still remaining socially distant and masked:) - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Modern Middle East - Dr. Lacy is very sweet and understanding. She is flexible with assignments but her assignment instructions are also unclear. A lot of times you will get a high score without knowing how you got a good score. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:HIS 1300 - This class is almost entirely based on regurgitating her opinions back at her. There were no tests, only response papers and a "final". Her lectures were extremely boring, especially because I have already taken world history, American history, and European history. Her class is based entirely on you not knowing anything about the "injustices" of history. So, if you know anything about colonization/imperialism and the negatives of it, her class quickly becomes stale. She never posted a syllabus, so she would constantly spring assignments on us, like "can you finish the book and write the paper next week?" in the middle of midterms. This class was pointless and frustrating if you've already taken any history before. It's an easy A, but a very frustrating class. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1307 - Dr. Lacy is an expert on the Middle East and the British Empire. She teaches history like it should be taught and has such interesting and nuanced perspectives on the different eras and topics. Her class is a lecture, but it's sort of a story she's telling and connections she's making. She brought in speakers and showed interesting films. Like with any history or humanities class, the reading wasn't light-- but probably average for a college level history class. She'll get to know you and was fun to Zoom with at the start of the pandemic. The tests were multiple choice. She was pretty flexible on tests and writing assignments because of the pandemic but we did zoom live during our normal time, so I feel like I can review her pretty well. She has been a favorite professor of mine... she's a classy gal. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1307 - DR. LACY IS THE BEST TEACHER. TAKE HER!!! She is the sweetest/ most understanding teacher I've ever had. No in class work, all take home!! There is one take-home midterm/one take home final. There are three papers that are summaries 1-2 pages of a book.(She doesn't grade hard and you can do it again for a better grade). If you email her that you can't turn in the paper by the deadline she will always work with you!!(and be happy to do so). You could go talk to her about anything and she will be there for you. The class is so easy! I have no clue why she has a bad rating, anyone who doesn't get an A didn't try at all. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1307 - Like many Baylor professors, Dr. Lacy is nice. However, her teaching ability is limited in many cases. She goes on many long tangents, shows us videos that are 20 minutes long, goes over class time by a few minutes (not a big deal if the class wasn't as boring), among other things. If you're in this class, you'd know what I'm talking about when I say that Leo Africanus is literally the most boring book ever and she's obsessed with it for some reason. I know that she has a specialty in middle eastern history, but it's far too integrated into our curriculum here. Don't get me wrong, this is a blowoff class, but it could not be more boring. I don't even know what my grade is because she doesn't use Canvas and keeps her own gradebook for some reason. Not fun. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1307 - Dr. Lacy is kind, but if at all possible do not take her. She goes on way too many rabit trails. Although this is world history since 1500s, she has spend this entire course talking about the history of Islam and our only writings are about a terrible book called Leo Africanus. She is so, so sweet but I hate sitting through the most boring class. I would reccomend someone else. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:Modern Islam - Dr. Lacy is an amazing woman with a heart of frickin' gold. If you were out of food and didn't know where your next meal was coming from, she would bring you into her own home. Her brain is a bit scattered and her class isn't very structured, but honestly, who cares. My life is more fulfilling having known Lisa Lacy, so for that reason alone I suggest you take her. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:4312 - Modern Middle East History - I was very excited to take this class, but was disappointed. I'm not learning a lot because she is VERY SCATTERED BRAINED. Anyone in my class can attest to this. She even openly admits to not being organized and going on random tangents. There isn't a lot of work though, so that's helpful. The tests are take-home, but pretty lengthy. There is one essay about 8 pages, and a book review. This class is doable, just very frustrating because you really don't learn that much. Also, she said at the beginning that we wouldn't have quizzes, but we've had 2. One vocab quiz and one map quiz. I'm sure more are to come. - Grade In Class:A
