Comments:Phonetics - Would have been a lot easier to make a better grade if she did not just read from powerpoints in class with minimal in-class practice. For quizzes and tests, individual phonemes had so much weight, that if you got even a couple wrong, it brought the grade down significantly. On top of this, asking for help or being not as caught up as others (due to the speed of content and little to no practice/application to help learn transcription) felt as if she were judgmental and unkind. She also exuded very obvious favoritism, and was noticeably more kind and commending to certain students. Before class, there would be music blasting, which was very distracting and irrelevant to class. If you are trying to study for a quiz or just prepare for class to start, it is extremely disruptive and unnecessary. It was also VERY difficult to be able to review past exam results. Had to learn phonetics completely on my own, come up with my own ways to remember things, ways to know how to transcribe, and understand the meanings of each phoneme. It is not hard material, but the instructor makes it seem significantly harder than it is because of the isolating teaching style. I have known several people who have taken this course that have completely changed majors and had difficulty with the class.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:2351 - Her teaching style is to basically teach right from the slides, which makes class fast-paced but studying very minimal and easy. You basically learn something and then have to transcribe it immediately by the next class. The assignments are very long, but managable if you space it out. The quizzes are pure transcription so its you know it or you dont. Her exams are pretty difficult in comparison to the quizzes, but she is pretty generous on giving points back to the class if everyone did bad. Tech in class but absolutely no talking allowed.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:Phonetics - Sammons was very difficult!! She is kind, but has very fast teaching style and made me want to change my major. I was very confused and trying to meet with her was incredibly difficult. She is very nice but certainly not very good at teaching this level of difficulty. When we met, she made me feel very belittled going over my missed questions on exams. Wish there were other options for students like me!!  - Grade In Class:DROP

Comments:CSD2351 - Prof. Sammons is a really solid professor! She begins every class with a worship song and a scripture which I always appreciated. She also makes sure that you are SUPER well-practiced in phonetics and if you actually do the work and keep up with it, she's right that it will help a ton. You really just need to practice. The only complaint I have with Sammons is that there were a fair few errors in her assignments or wording that would be confusing if you weren't confident in the material, but she's always receptive to hearing that, so if you tell her she will clarify. Overall she was great and I'd take a class from her again!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2351 - Phonetics - I have loved being in Professor Sammons's class. Personally, I found phonetics kinda fun once I got the hang of it and tended to do pretty well. There are weekly assignments and quizzes which can be stressful, but you just have to stay on top of it. There is also a workbook where you are required to complete a certain number of chapters before they are checked (completion grade) before exams. YOU HAVE TO BE DOING IT ALONG THE LESSONS. Do not leave it to the night before the tests A. because it is a lot and B. it actually really helps. Phonetics is a lot of repetition and this class is very doable if you have the right mindset.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3308 - Mrs. Sammons is a very sweet lady, but this class was one of the harder CSD classes. For the tests, you have to memorize all the slides because her tests are very specific. I would hand write all the slides until I knew everything. I ended the class with an A, but it took a lot of work. She also made us make around 170 flashcards for a project. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE for this project!! It took me a couple days to finish. There are some small extra credit opportunities throughout the course and I would do all of it because it can really help. There's no homework besides studying for the tests and quizzes and working on the project. An A is a 93 for this class:/  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3308 - This class is not terrible, but it isn't great. Her teaching style makes the material seem very simple and easy, but the tests are very detailed, difficult, and have application examples. It can be tempting to feel like the class is super easy, but make sure you prepare well for the tests and know it is not easy. If you do that, you will be fine.  - Grade In Class:A
