*A 5 star workload is an easy workload; a 3 star is average; whereas a 1 star workload is extremely hard.
Comments:3315 - Although I have an A, don't let it fool you, this is one of the worst teachers at Baylor. The workload is ridiculous, some of the most pointless busy work I have had in my academic career. Her Canvas is a mess, filled to the brim with content. You would think this would help, but often her rubrics contradict instructions and make no sense. She offers close to zero help, and gets passive-aggressive if you ask questions in class. I really could go on and on here, but just do yourself a favor and DO NOT TAKE HER!!! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:B - This was the worst class and professor I ever had at Baylor - Grade In Class:B
Comments:3315 - This women is absolutely crazy. Her grading is so harsh for no reason and she gives so much work with no clear due date. Her canvas is messy and class is the biggest waste of time. The easiest part of the class is the discussion posts that do not relate to any of the work we do. She gives 50's with no explanation. I have never hated a teacher this much. - Grade In Class:C
Comments:3315 - SAVE YOURSELF!!! Register for anyone else, I repeat ANYONE ELSE!!! She is the worst professor I have ever had. I am good at writing but could never get an A on her assignments, because she had unrealistic expectations and would not make anything clear. Every other class prepares for the departmental writing skills exam, but she did not mention it until the class before!!! It is worth 12% of your grade and our class average was a 60. She also offers no extra credit and believes that a C is a "respectable grade" in her class. It should be an easy A as the first half of the semester is a therapy session talking about our feelings and emotional intelligence, then you color and play with legos, and then you learn to write emails. However, this evil professor will mark you down on anything and everything, because she shows no mercy. Biggest headache of my life. I wish I could go back in time and take a different class, because this dumba** class is gonna tank my gpa. Freakin ridiculous. Love the sweet grandma lady, but it is not worth the pain. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:3315 - DO NOT TAKE HER!!! My friends warned me about her, but it was much worse than I ever could have expected. This class should be an easy A, but it was my worst grade this semester. Pretty sad that I did better in Finance and Business Law than this freakin class. I mean one moment we are playing with legos and the next we have a huge report. Her grading is beyond frustrating. I went to her office hours to ask about an email assignment and she said "it's perfect, and I would just change some wording in the end." After I went back to my apartment, the grade was uploaded and I got a C+. Perfect huh?! She never gives A's even on assignments that you think are bull crap. A super sweet lady, but she should not be allowed to teach. Worst class I have ever taken at Baylor, and that is not an exaggeration. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:3315 - Dr Burleson is a very kind person, but she is not a good teacher. She grades like Jackson Pollock paints, throwing random numbers on the rubric. Two people with almost identical submissions could revive wildly different grades, and she almost never hands out an A. She also gives no clear expectations on what she wants. Additionally, Dr Burleson would not grade assignments until months later, making it very hard to calculate your grade in the class. The grammar exam, which other classes had weeks to prepare for, was not mentioned by Dr Burleson until a week before, where she basically just told us “good luck.” Overall, DO NOT TAKE Dr Burleson unless you want to struggle in a class that should be a free A - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:BUS 3315 - DO NOT TAKE HER. I was hopeful at the beginning of the class that I could get an A, I was a fool. She is unable to explain any assignment in a way that makes sense. So throughout the entire course you'll have no idea what she's wanting. I don't even know what some of the assignments were for, and I just finished her course. The assignments all feel like they are worth a random percent of the grade, as the final was basically worthless. She is also the most nitpicky professor when it comes to grammar and writing. When she grades something, it seems like the most random number she could think of. Her feedback is both unhelpful and worthless. Her feedback is basically "I would have written it better myself." There are quite a few in class assignments and projects. The biggest thing is a group project paper, that all of my group got different grades on. There is also a standardized grammar exam 2/3 of the way through that absolutely tanked everyone's grade. She spends no time preparing for it, unlike the other professors. Never went to her office hours, but i heard that they are not the most helpful anyway. On the positive side, she is the most friendly woman you'll have as a professor. Overall, she was very confusing and unhelpful, she did not explain what she was grading for, she spent too much time in class talking about life stories as opposed to working, and she did not prepare us for the big projects and tests. I can't say that I genuinely learned anything from her class. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:BUS3315 - I’m writing this before the final tomorrow, but in all honesty I have low hopes since Burleson grades assignments based on the most random criteria she makes up as she goes. One second she has you playing with legos and the next we have an exam worth 12% of our grade that she didn’t once prepare us for in class. She is highly unorganized, and cannot communicate to save her life. Instead of telling us how to do well on the final she was just asking us what doughnuts we like, knowing she wont give out any A’s. Don’t take Burleson, she is the worst professor ive had to date and I should have listened when I saw she had a low rating, it is definitely for a reason. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:3315 - Debra Burleson is quite easily the worst professor I have ever had at Baylor. It is comical how bad she treats her students/grading system and she is extremely sarcastic and demeaning towards students. If you have a problem with a grade she tells you that grades don't matter learning does however if she doesn't like you your grades will never be good. She is unfair, rude, and will act nice on the outside but deep down there is some sort of issues that she needs to resolve within. DO NOT TAKE HER AT ANY COST UNLESS YOU WANT TO TREAD 2.5 HOURS OF YOUR LIFE EVERY WEEK. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:BUS 3315 - While Dr. Burleson was extremely nice, I felt like she was not clear in what she expected from us in assignments. When I would get my grades back there would be feedback on the assignment saying that I needed to do things that Burleson had never specified in class. It was very difficult to know what she wanted from the assignment. I would also go to office hours and ask what needed to be done. In office hours she would bring up things that she had not mentioned in class or that was not specified on the rubric. Also there is a period in march when she leaves for two weeks to go to France. You will have to do a virtual project with a French student. This project was very confusing because we were unable to ask her any questions about it in her office hours until she got back from France. In the end, I got an A- that lowered my 4.0. I would not recommend her, but if you do get her definitely go to office hours for help because you will definitely need it. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:BUS 3315 - I created an account just to rate this professor. Never in my two years at baylor have I had a teacher worse than Burleson. I saw her ratings were low and took the class with some friends thinking how bad can it really be. Let me tell you firsthand that it was really that bad. For starters we turned in our LinkedIn bio assignment on February 6th of this semester and 3 months later it still is not graded (which is about 7% of our grade). Most of the assignments that are graded in class are based off the teachers own personal opinion of what the perfect assignment should look like and even if you follow the rubric perfectly she will still find many things wrong with it. She left halfway through the semester to go teach a class in like France or something and was gone for a month and left us with a big project to do with little to no instructions. We were supposed to collaboratively work with the students she was teaching in France and get instructional information from our partners about how we should be proceeding with the project but the best part was that the students in France were just as confused as us. One of the students I talked to over Zoom literally cussed her out as he was saying she was one of the worst professors he has had as well, (funny enough she emphasizes the importance of learning how to globally communicate while she's completely misrepresenting how accredited and professional Baylor teachers really are.) I tried hard in this class and mu cumulative is a 3.7 but going into finals I am hoping that I am going to end with a B but at this point who knows what flaws she is going to try and find. Also, fun fact is that in the last month of the semester the whole BUS COM department takes a writing skills test that is worth 12% of our grade that we are wildly unprepared for. Most of the 'skills' that show up on this exam are unpractical and would never show up in real life. Our class average was around a 65 and our professor didn't think we deserved a curve causing everyones grade to fall. She actually addressed the test beforehand by saying "do not expect this test to raise your grade". ADVOID THIS TEACHER AT ALL COSTS, SHE COMES ACROSS AS NICE AND FRIENDLY BUT YOU WILL HAVE TO FIGHT FOR YOUR GRADE AND DO NOT EXPECT AN A. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:3315 - She is so bad at communicating. There isn't a syllabus with all the due dates. How to clearly do the assignments is not explained, so you just turn it in and hope for the best. Her canvas page is confusing. She is nice though, will give helpful advice and will meet about resumes and cover letters, and let class out early a lot. But I do not recommend. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:BUS 3315 - For starters, let me just say that the class itself is one of the stupidest classes I've had to take so it deserves a portion of this bad review. The main concept of the class is how to politely send messages to co-workers. During the semester there are 3-4 assignments with hundreds of questions that teach you how to capitalize, use commas, and find nouns/verbs. Now, I have a friend who teaches 4th graders and they would be able to these assignments and this is an upper level business course. As far as her teaching goes, I'm doing it all online and as other comments have stated, she is unorganized and terrible at communicating. Her canvas page has you jumping all over just to turn in your sign up. She also teaches us as if we're 2 and 1/2. If she would just give clear directions, she wouldn't have to talk to us like children in her online lectures. All in all, if you unfortunately have to take this class, take someone else. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:BUS 3315 - This professor is probably the worst possible person to take. She does not teach anything at all. She communicates horrible for a communications class. By far the worst professor I have had at the business school. She teaches absolutely nothing and then grades like a bat out of hell. Expects us to be some PhD English students or something. She did absoultely nothing to prepare us for the skills exam which is 12% of our final grade, and we literally knew nothing about it. Whatever you do, DO NOT take this professor. Actually a nice lady outside of class but do not dare take her for Business Communications. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:BUS 3315 - DON'T LISTEN TO THE OTHER REVIEWS!!!!! I took this class online and it was SO simple. She is so organized and you always know what to do if you look for it. It is an online class, so you have to be on top of your work yourself. If you can't do that, don't take this class online. If you can be self-sufficient, take this class! Every week, she posts a video that is 5-10 minutes and it explains everything on the to-do list for the week. She sticks to the syllabus and is very organized. I am horrible at writing, but she is very helpful. She provides easy to fix feedback and is always available to help. She will offer and highly suggest you set up a zoom for your cover letter- do it and get to know her. She is a very sweet lady and knows her stuff. If you are a successful student in online classes, this is one that is good to take! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:BUS 3315 - She is one of the best online professors I have ever had. She always responds to emails very timely and makes herself very available to meet. She provides thorough, clear instructions for everything unlike most online professors. There are a lot of assignments that take a lot of time, but they aren’t too difficult. She is very nit picky about grammar, spelling, and formatting, but other than that she’s a great professor and I have had no problems with her. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:3315 - This class was the embodiment of a headache. By far the worst communicator, unfair grader, and unrealistic professor I have ever taken. She takes off a ridiculous amount of points for tiny errors such as a single spacing issue or a missing comma. When you ask her to clarify her unclear instructions, she is sarcastic and unhelpful. I would not recommend this class to a friend, but I would certainly recommend it to an enemy. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:3315 - This class is terrifying to say the least. Debra is the sweetest lady ever but this class was BY FAR most stressful class I have ever had. The number of assignments we had was baffling. After we went online, I had to email her like a million times to make sure I understood everything that we had to do. She would almost always respond witihin a few hours, but her answers were not always helpful. I legit put all of my other classes on the back burner. I somehow got an A but it took hours and hours of work every week. Don't take this class if youre looking for an easy A. On the plus side, I did learn a lot from this class so at least there's that. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:3315 - DO NOT TAKE HER. She has the most unorganized, confusing canvas page I have ever seen. She takes a long time to respond to emails and her responses are cryptic and sarcastic in nature. By far the most unfair grader I have had at Baylor, her class had the worst workload of all my classes for the semester and that is ridiculous for a basic business communication class - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:BUS3315 - DO NOT TAKE DR. BURLESON. She is a very sweet lady but as all the other ratings have said, she is the most confusing professor I've ever taken. Very ironic considering she is a communications professor—such a bad communicator. Her canvas pages will send you from one link to the other back and forth making it impossible to find clear examples of what she wants. It is really sad as she tries to help but she just makes it worse! She will post long podcasts and you will be more confused. She left for 3 weeks in the spring and made us do a virtual team over spring break. Her assignments were so useless you'll have no motivation to do them. She gave us hard quizzes on very specific subjective writing tips from the book. Overall, the worst class I've ever taken at Baylor. Good thing Baylor made pass/fail available because of the pandemic cause this class would've ruined my 3.9 GPA. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:BUS 3315 - DO NOT take Burleson. The most recent comments are the most accurate. She is very scattered and unhelpful when it comes to assignments. I would come to class and leave more confused than when I came in. EXTREMELY nit picky on formatting and will always find a way to take points off. Did not teach grammar once and my whole class did not do well on the writing skills test. The average was below a 60. This class should not be difficult but her lack of communication skills and inability to give clear instructions make it difficult. I knew a few of her former students who warned me not to take her and I should have listened. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:BUS 3315 - The previous two reviews are SO accurate. I excelled in English class but Dr. Burleson always found so many little mistakes in my writing and I'd lose a lot of points on small mistakes, like forgetting a comma. Her grading is very subjective, which makes the class frustrating since every assignment is worth a lot of points. Do not take her! - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:3315 - ***Do Not Take Burleson*** She is nice but whole cow the lady cannot teach. She is all over the place with her lectures and it’s impossible to keep track of what’s going on. I would often leave class more confused than I went in. She is incredibly nit picky with her grading. For example people got points taken off a writing assignment for using the word happy when she never meantioned not using that word once in class. She leaves for a month during the semester in the spring and you will probably fail every assignment she gives while she is gone. She is the worst professor I have every had in my entire educational career, not just college. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:BUS 3315 - The class overall is not that hard but professor Burleson is one of the least helpful and least prepared professors I have ever had. She is scattered all the time and is nit picky and impatient. It appears that she would rather not be there at many times as well and seems disengaged.Overall one of the worst professors at Baylor in my opinion. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:3315 - Dr. Burleson is one of the nicest professors I have ever had. She will always help you and her class isnt that hard. There are no test, besides the final (which is just grammar and some basic concepts) - Grade In Class:A
Comments:BUS 3315 - Lots of work, but she is super nice and always helpful. Definitely possible to get an A if you do the work - Grade In Class:A
Comments:BUS 3315 - You actually have to work very hard to get an A. I actually didn't think the class would be as demanding. Would definitely recommend her, but the class on its own is a quite demanding - Grade In Class:A
Comments:BUS 3315 - Worst professor ever. Horrible at giving directions and never clear on what she wants. Had a high A until the last day of class. Screwed me over with a project grade and got a B in the class. Avoid if possible. Supposed to be an easy class, not with her - Grade In Class:B
