Comments:PSC 1387 - Can’t believe some of the criticisms I’ve been reading about this guy. This is easily one of my favorite classes I’ve taken at Baylor, and it was especially fun to take in conjunction with Business Law since they often intertwine. The only annoying thing is that he only lets you take notes on paper or on a tablet, which was annoying for someone who likes taking laptop notes. After a while though, you just get used to it and start to appreciate how much it can help you retain the information. He is so clearly passionate about the US government and understands it very deeply. He pretty much exclusively lectures, but he is not dry whatsoever and is very good about using modern examples. He gets everyone involved and is great about answering questions, sometimes to a fault because it leads him off-topic and onto other fun tangents. Anywho, this is such a fun class if you simply read what you are assigned to read and participate in the discussions that he tries to spark. He usually assigns a few readings before each class and asks you to take handwritten notes on them, so you can use them for the reading quizzes. The quizzes are usually once per week and always announced beforehand, so you really don’t have to always read on certain days if you don’t want. They are usually about 5-10 questions and pretty easy to get full or close to full if you actually read and took good enough notes. The quizzes are also curved by 10% and he drops your lowest 2. There are 3 midterms plus the final, which are all weighted equally at 20% each. I can’t reiterate how easy they are if you’ve just paid attention in class and taken good notes, especially since they’re all multiple choice and often have obvious answers even if you didn’t read. He also gives you a review guide with guided questions on each reading that will be on the test and what he wants you to know about it. If it isn’t on the review guide, it isn’t on the test and there are no surprises. Overall, he’s an awesome teacher and does an exceptional job with what can be a boring subject for some.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:PSC 1387 - Professor Clayton assigns around 3 readings for each class session and usually gives one quiz (always open-note) a week. The readings can be difficult to initially understand, but they're usually Supreme Court cases or parts of the Constitution, so you can use outside resources to help you understand them. The quizzes can be hard if you don't read or take notes, but he floors the quizzes at 50, drops a few, and curves each test by a few questions. The final is genuinely one of the easiest exams you'll ever take and he's very transparent about what exactly he wants you to study for his exams. Plus, he will always answer any question you have (no matter how dumb you might think it is) and will explain and repeat things as many times as you need in office hours for you to understand.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:US Constitution - Dr. Clayton's class is definitely difficult, but you will learn a ton and feel like it is worth your time. The readings can get time consuming and the quizzes about made me want to shoot myself sometimes, but the exams are extremely doable and Dr. Clayton is so available to help. Go to his review sessions and ask him questions! He is a genius in all things political science, it is actually crazy. He is a very kind and intelligent man and takes his job seriously. I had to work hard in this class to earn my A but I seriously think it was worth it!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:PSC 1387 - PROFESSOR CLAYTON IS SUCH A SLAY. He is so incredibly helpful and just overall such a good professor. He truly cares about the wellbeing of his students and what he is teaching! I would NOT take this class online just because of how amazing Professor Clayton is and how helpful he can be in his office hours! His workload is about 2-3 readings that are good and his quizzes are all open note! TAKE PROFESSOR CLAYTON!! BEST DECISION YOU’LL EVER MAKE AT BAYLOR!!  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2023-11-28

Comments:1387 - Prof. Clayton's teaching style consists of talking and occasionally writing on the whiteboard. He went on tangents about how he's anti-abortion, and I don't recommend raising your hand if you aren't conservative. I understand that politics are unavoidable, but none of it relates to class. His tests are very hard, other than the final. He just talks, and there's no structure to how he teaches. It just felt boring and like I was learning nothing.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2023-04-27

Comments:1387 - It was tough from the beginning. Just do the readings, pay attention. Don't worry about lecture notes, it is more beneficial to just pay attention. Organize any notes by SCOTUS cases and use that for exams. For exams I recommend printing out the review and taking it as an exam over and over again. The final was a piece of cake. He is very kind and cares about the subject and his students. I hope I will have the opportunity to take him as a prof in the future. Take the time to talk to him outside of class. There is a prayer before every class and I found it very calming. Take him for this course if you have the opportunity.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:PSC 1387 - Professor Clayton might just be one of the best professors I have had so far. He is so understanding of your concerns and wants to help as much as he can. It might seem intimidating at first, but if you truly do what he asks of you and pay attention, your grade will reflect. UTILIZE HIS OFFICE HOURS!!! I cannot emphasize that enough, he is so helpful when you use his office hours and ask questions. If you attend class, ask questions, and prepare well, you will be successful. Is it an easy A, no. Is it possible to get an A, yes. Trust what he tells you because he never tries to trick you, he is simply just trying to help you learn. The exams are manageable when you study the study guides, and the final is a breeze. The quizzes can be challenging at times, but he lets you use your notes and pocket constitution. Ultimately, I highly recommend taking Professor Clayton because he is one of the best ones out there!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:PSC1387 - Worst professor I have ever had at Baylor. He does offer help at office hours, but not enough to get A's on the tests because of how difficult he makes them. He makes students feel dumb for not knowing things about the government. I was scared to ask a question because of how he made fun of other questions he was previously asked. He constantly sent emails apologizing for putting the wrong readings on the syllabus or not posting the readings, but when you email him to ask about the readings he will just tell you to look at the syllabus (where those incorrect readings were). There's no doing right for him unless you are one of his three favorite students that puts their blood sweat and tears into his class and constantly attend office hours. Everyone else is stupid. He loves the sound of his voice. Attendance counts and he lectures for the entire class. Avoid taking him at all costs.  - Grade In Class:C+

Date: 2022-12-13

Comments:PSC 1387 - This guy literally talks just to hear the sound of his own voice. His workload for a gen ed class is absolutely outrageous, and his quizzes and tests are no exception. Please take this course online and save yourself sleep.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1387 - We need more professors like Prof. Clayton. He clearly cares about the material (which is especially nice for a core class) and is passionate about teaching it to his students. He is also not afraid to laugh at himself, which I appreciated. No, you can't coast by in the class, so if you're looking for an easy A you won't find it with him. That being said, nothing he expects is unreasonable. The readings can get long, but he gives resources about how to get the most out of them. The quizzes are not super easy, but again, if you do the reading, you're fine! He also offers unlimited questions right before it, and will often essentially give you the answers to the quiz if you just ask about the reading. All in all, his class is entirely fair and you get every chance to succeed, especially with his grading policies and clear lecturing. Tbh, if every American took this class, our world would be a lot better off.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2022-05-22

Comments:1387 - This man really needs to go back and change the way he teaches this class. I feel as though I learned nothing about the court cases we learned about because we would have to read 3-4 each night and take notes on them for the quiz at the beginning of class. There were 300ish students in our class so by the time the quiz was done, we were left with about 45 minutes of class to go over 3-4 court cases. There’s no way to cover that much material in that short of time. Also his PowerPoints suck he might as well not have them, and sometimes he didn’t and typed on a word doc. With that being said, he does curve the quizzes 10% and the final is an easy A while the other exams aren’t, so do with that what you will I don’t even know. I literally had a C all year til the final which is awesome but it would be better to have more of an even playing field all year. Also, leading up to finals he was never available because he wanted to go on dates with his wife and was barely available all year due to homeschooling six children. I’m also a Poli sci major if that says anything. I don’t recommend but his class is doable. Just a pain for sure.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2022-05-16

Comments:1387 - His teaching style is alot of lecture and some in class discussion depending on your class size.Your grades in the class will coME rom exams and quiz's based on the reading matierial for that week. They are 7 questions and somewhat difficult if you didnt understand the readings. I feel that if I had a better grasp of the reading I would have done better on the quiz. Additionally he will give you a review for each test and is you master the review you should be able to do well. Test were very comparable to an AP Gov exam. This class is difficult and at times annoying but I am happy I chose professor Clayton because he dosnt give essays. Aditonally Professor Clayton is a great professor and he has a good understanding of the constitution. He really wants his student to know there rights and know the cosntitution. The entire final was basically can you do an outline of the consitution. Overall professor Clayton is a great professor, but if you want to get an A you have to put the work in.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2022-05-08

Comments:1387 - Clayton is the best! He’s super passionate about the material and keeps the class light and funny. He’s super easy to talk to and available to meet outside of class if needed. We would have reading quizzes but would he would often let us work with our peers. He would also let us ask questions before the quiz so most of the time you got the answers. He makes an exam review for all the exams that is detailed and is pretty much all the questions on the exam. If you study the exam review your golden. The final is also the easiest thing in the world. Even the football players got A’s on the final. Clayton is the best!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:PSC 1387 - Dr. Clayton is a great professor! I'm not a poli-sci major and all of the course material was comprehendible. His teaching style is interactive and almost discussion-like. There are readings assigned for each class, I highly suggest actually reading because lectures are always about the assigned readings. There is no textbook for this class so he provides all the readings. Once a week there is an 8-question quiz, and before the quiz, he will allow for a q&a time, which is super helpful, especially if you didn't do the reading. Quizzes are open notes, tests are "open constitution", the final is neither but believe me you won't need extra help on it. When he says don't stress about the tests or the final, believe him. Unlike most professors, he cares about everyone's grades and is not out to get you. If you need an A and are taking constitution just for the gen ed credit, I highly recommend his class. You will learn a lot, laugh a lot in this class, and he actually cares about his students contrary to some reviews.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2022-01-07

Comments:1387 - This is the worst class/professor I've taken at Baylor... There is an 8 question quiz at the beginning of class each day over that days readings which made up the largest portion of your grade. These quizzes cover a LARGE bulk of material as the readings are long and quite confusing, and ask very specific and tricky questions. These quizzes can drop your grade drastically if you haven't mastered the material as you don't review the readings or have the lecture before the quiz. The only decent (yet confusing) aspect of this class is the fact that the final has nothing to do with the court cases you studied throughout the semester. Also, this professor HEAVILY prefers poli sci majors and athletes. My advice.. Take this class but don't take this professor.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2021-12-12

Comments:PSC 1387 - As a political science major, I felt his class was equivalent to an AP government course. The amount of reading was slightly ridiculous for a gen ed class like most people agree, but most can be spark-noted or on other SCOTUS breakdown sites. Professor Clayton himself is generally friendly and will help with any course questions or just general questions about current affairs. His quizzes were often obnoxiously hard, but so long as you do fine on the tests you'll be ok.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2021-12-08

Comments:1387 - If you are a political science major then definitely take his class, he's a good teacher and the class is pretty engaging. Workload is way too much for a gen ed class though, he expects us to read 40-80 pages of boring court cases a week and its honestly kinda hard to pin point what out of those 80 pages will be on a quiz that's only 7 questions. Studying for tests is easier because he gives us review packets which are basically exactly what the material on the test will be but the quizzes is what got me.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2021-11-18

Comments:US CONST - I loved his teaching style! A lot of people will probably complain that the workload was way too much, but compared to other sections, the work was very bearable. Especially at the beginning of the year you will have to apply yourself to the readings but it really isnt too bad. He is very helpful and always encouraged us with study/reading tips and even posted a whole thread of how we could study better  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2021-11-17

Comments:PolySci - Andrew is clearly the type of professor who hates his job and takes that anger out on his students. His workload is absolutely ridiculous, especially for a class that is required for all students. Apparently he doesn't realize were all here because we need to be not because we want to be. Don't expect any leniency with him. He has no heart.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2021-10-12

Comments:PSC 3315, 2343 - Professor Clayton is one of my top two favorite professors at Baylor. His classes consist of readings and discussions. He is seriously one of the nicest people ever. Just do the readings and you'll do great in the class. Sometimes the readings were boring and long, but if you break them up over a few days they're not too bad. Take him he is amazing!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:- - LITERALLY the BEST professor at Baylor. Clayton helps all of his students with anything they could ever need. He always is there to help. Most understanding professor ever. On the first day of class, he is super intimidating, but nicest person alive. Professor Clayton assigns quite a bit of reading, but if you just focus on certain parts of the reading you are fine. Read about 5 pages of each reading he assigns and maybe highlight the terms. He appreciates hard work and kindness. If you are a generally respectful person and are kind, you will make an A. Could not recommend him more.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3315 - Professor Clayton is my favorite professor at Baylor! I took his fundamentals of international politics class as a freshman and decided to take Western Political Philosophy with him as my professor as well. At times the workload can be difficult, but he clearly explains all the readings and class is enjoyable. His classes are widely discussion based, which allowed me to hear everybody's points of view. We got to use all of our notes on quizzes and the tests were easy as often times the reviews were VERY in line with the tests. He is always very nice and totally willing to help, so I recommend going to his office hours. If you have the chance to take his class, you definitely should! :)  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2303 - One of the best professors I have ever had. Took him in 2019. The course does require a lot of effort participating both in class and reading and preparing out of class, but it is a class I learned so much in and value what I learned. I really like the way professor Clayton discusses in class, his notes on the board are more just points to highlight over the information, not teaching you the whole concept. He expects you to come to class already knowing what's going on. Kind, funny, intelligent guy. Take his class but know that you are going to have to put in work, it's not a blow off class.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2020-09-14

Comments:3315 - I highly recommend Professor Clayton. He is very helpful and always makes himself available. The workload for this particular class involves quite a bit more reading than many other required courses in the same category. Although, it is nothing more than future upper level political science courses. Clayton’s class will prepare you to be a WINNER in future classes with much harder requirements  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2020-08-24

Comments:3315 - Long story short, Prof. Clayton is one of the nicest professors I’ve taken at Baylor. He’s always willing and available to help via email and strives to create an enjoyable study environment. The only reason some of his other reviews are negative is because those people didn’t actually do the work. He gives a LOT of reading, and yes it is usually dry, but you’re a political science major.. what did you expect. If you do the readings, you know exactly what’s going on. The entire class is based on the readings he gives, and if you’re creative and accurate with your answers on exams you WILL a get a good grade. He literally just expects you to do the requirements for the course, so I find it annoying that anyone would bash him for doing so. Please take him, he is a wonderful professor!!! Always willing to help.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2020-08-24

Comments:PSC 3315 - By far my least favorite prof I've ever had. He basically posted the tests before hand and lots of group quizzes so grade wise you're fine. However I barely learned anything. His lecture style is so outdated and boring. You're expected to read like 40 pages from an even more boring textbook before every class bc he cold calls. I counted every single one of the 75 minutes and left annoyed and bored. Take another prof if possible.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2020-06-26

Comments:PSC 2405 - Clayton is a good professor. I would say that the work load is not bad at all. Just a few readings before each class and you do not even need to buy the textbook at all. The quizzes are what killed my grade. Literally so hard for no reason but we could use our notes for quizzes. The exams were pretty reasonable to the point and he gave us a review and he would curve the grades if the averages were low. He was very bad at giving us out grades back until like the last week of class so it is the kind of class where you do not really know your grade until the end. The final was super super easy if you just study exactly what he tells you so that saved my grade. Overall, decent professor- I would recommend taking him but not as the first choice. This class is not an easy A at all.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2019-12-20

Comments:Political science 2302 - Professor Clayton was the first professor to make me feel like he cared. The class is a bit challenging but he really just wants to make sure you know your fundamental rights. He’s helpful and lenient so if you’re having a hate time just go to him!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2019-12-18

Comments:PSC 2302 - What is there not to say about Professor Clayton. I can wholeheartedly say he is the best professor I have ever taken at Baylor. He is the perfect combination of funny, serious, and caring when he teaches. He genuinely cares for all of his students. He is also incredibly invested in the material which makes the entire class more interesting in general. I recommend him over any other political science professor. Make sure you stay on top of the readings and participate in class because he really wants to help a class that participates. Seriously one of my favorite classes and I am not a political science major. Also, I have never written a positive review on this website but felt inclined to just because of how great he is. His rating should literally be a 90 or up! TAKE HIM...  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2019-12-12

Comments:PSC - HE IS AMAZING!!!!! the quizzes are impossible but if you study literally everything for the tests and email him any questions you have then youre good to go! it is all memorization, the final is A LOT but if you study a lot and know everything then it REALLY helps your grade! I also love his teaching style because he doesnt force his opinion and view on the class which is extremely hard to do in a political science class. even when students would ask provoking questions he still remained neutral and jsut stated the facts.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2019-12-05

Comments:2302 - I REALLY enjoyed this course. I was very nervous going into the class because I have a very poor history/government academic background. I have always found these topics pretty boring, but professor Clayton really sparked my interest in the material. This course is a lot of work however, it was the course I had the most homework in during that semester. You are assigned 20-40 pages of reading a week, but if you genuinely read and take notes at least 80% of the time it is much easier to understand what's going on during class and therefore participate. The more active you are as a student in participating the better you will do on the quizzes and the more Clayton will like you as a student. It's important to reference both your own notes and Clayton's class notes for the tests and quizzes, your own notes will benefit you the most since Clayton's notes are pretty brief and just supposed to be a general overview of what you already should have read. The tests are a lot of just memorizing facts about court cases and how they contributed to the development of various laws and regulations. No matter who you take for this class expect to have a heavy workload, but I found professor Clayton to be very funny and personable which made the class enjoyable and made it easy to go talk to him about test grades and other things. He also offers 2-3 fairly easy extra credit opportunities and curves scores a little bit. If I had to take this course over again I would take it with professor Clayton every single time. 12/10  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2019-06-23

Comments:2302 - Professor Clayton is fantastic! It might be my favorite class I have taken at Baylor so far. Every time I went into class, he managed to make me reevaluate my perspectives and see something from a different light. He encourages discussion throughout the class, and his passion for what he teaches is evident. You do have to do the readings to be successful on the quizzes, but the readings were usually interesting and the amount was comparable to my other classes. Overall, I would definitely take the course again and would highly recommend Professor Clayton!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2019-05-11

Comments:PSC 2302 - So they key to passing Dr. Clayton's class is to have patience. The class is comprised of 3 exams (the third is the final), around 8 reading quizzes, and some extra credit (though not guaranteed). An A is a 92.5 and tests are 75%, attendance is 5%, and reading quizzes are 20%. The reading quizzes, which are super specific (like so that you actually do the reading), are tough... but there is extra credit on each quiz and 2 of your lowest quiz grades get dropped. Just for showing up you get a 50% on each quiz, so it is easily possible to get a high quiz average. There is no outside homework besides the reading. For the tests, it is super general, which is good for your grade, and not tough. It takes some studying to understand the material if you don't read/understand the lecture because you did not read, but it is easily doable. OYEZ.com is so helpful. Though I am biased because I am a political science minor, I really enjoyed his class and his teaching ability. He was very interested in what he taught and made it interesting, but you would have to be interested in our national government and its current state to get what he talks about in class to keep up. He is very available, especially over email. I would take him again!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2019-05-10

Comments:PSC 2302 - I really liked Clayton as a person but the class was all over the place and almost everyone was confused. The quizzes are also super hard.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2019-05-09

Comments:PSC 2302 - Professor Clayton is a great professor! If you read the assigned readings and listen in class you'll make an A. All I did was read, take notes, and review my notes before the exam (no intensive studying). Not to mention his final exam was a breeze. He genuinely cares about each student and will answer any questions you have. I should also mention that I am a science major with minimal interest in political science, history, or government. This class honestly made me more interested in the subject even though I started out knowing literally nothing.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2019-04-15

Comments:PSC 2302 - To begin, I would definitely take a different professor for this course- It was much harder and required much more effort and time than needed to for a general class that is required for every major. He is obviously passionate about his subject which is great, but overall, this class is a mess and causes me so much more anxiety than necessary. If you are not a political science expert, then expect to be made fun of for what you do not know regarding the subject. He is a fairly nice, funny guy, but does not teach with powerpoints and his notes on the white board are scattered and very hard to keep up with. Additionally, expect a quiz every week over 2-5 pretty long readings which you expected to know in depth. He is not a great communicator and takes at least one week and multiple emails/canvas messages to get a response from. The tests are very difficult and have each had 2-3 questions that we did not cover in class on them. Although I think I like Professor Clayton as a person, I would not recommend him to take for Poly Sci 2302 unless you are already very well educated in Political Science and do not have issues with the information above.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2019-04-09

Comments:2302 - Awesome Professor. Didn't make us buy the textbook, and only gave us cases and other short readings. If you read, the quizzes (And tests) were super easy. Not always available because he also works at MCC, but willing to work with you. Definitely knows what he is talking about.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2019-04-04

Comments:PSC 2302 - DO NOT TAKE HIM. STAY AWAY. He often rambles in class so it is very hard to keep track of his arguments and points in class. Not the most available professor as he also teaches at MCC. Expect quizzes almost every week over readings, which you have to know IN DEPTH (mind you this is like 6-12 pages of reading before EVERY class). Overall nice guy, but I would NOT, I repeat NOT TAKE HIM for a gen ed class. However, if you are a Pre-Law or a Poli Sci major, knock your socks off.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2019-02-28

Comments:PSC 2302 - Clayton does everything he can to make this class easy. You'll have to read court decisions for each class, and there's quite a bit to read, but you can honestly get by with just reading summaries on Wikipedia. There will be a few quizzes over the readings, but they aren't too bad. There are 3 exams and he gives you a study guide to fill out for each that almost mirror the exam. The final is even easier than the in-class exams, and you also get a study guide for that. Clayton is a really nice dude and makes the class enjoyable. He does teach at MCC, so his availability is a bit limited, but I don't think it's too much of a problem  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2302 - Clayton is a really cool professor. PSC is hard so don't expect any professor to be the "easiest" professor. You also have to work in polisci, nothing is given so you have to study. Out of all the feedback I heard from other students I would say take him. He makes class fun, interesting, and engaging. He remembers your name in a 110 person class. He has roughly 3 tests and a final. The first and third test was extremely hard but doable if you put in the effort to study. His second test I think was easier because the review was so detailed. The final was SO easy. If you don't make an A on that then you did not even read the constitution once. You have readings almost every class and they are cases so they can be long but read a summary before or after reading it and it will make sense. He does quizzes and sometimes you are pop but if you handwrite notes from the readings he lets you use them. He just had a baby so I think that's why the third test was rough because he wasn't there and we couldn't' ask questions. He teaches at MCC too so sometimes he can't always answer right away. Take him!  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:PSC 2302 - Okay so at first I wasnt his biggest fan but he's actually super great. This class does require a huge amount of reading since he doesnt give you a text book. The tests are pretty easy if you just take time to study the material. He gives a review for every test. He does have some pop quizzes but he drops the lowest two. THE FINAL WAS SO EASY. You literally just have to memorize the constitution. I would take him again. He does lecture the entire time and doesnt have power points but he makes the class super interesting.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2017-12-13

Comments:PSC 2302 - Professor Clayton is super nice, but his teaching style is a bit odd. He doesn't require a textbook, he just posts several weekly readings throughout the semester on Canvas. Then in class, he goes over the readings and writes notes on a whiteboard. I would've preferred if he used a powerpoint, but class discussion is big to him and most of the notes on the board come from students comments. If you really want him to teach, you have to participate and discuss what you read. Make sure you do the readings or you will have absolutely no idea what is going on; the readings are the most important part of the class. He has several unannounced quizzes throughout the semester and some of them are pretty difficult and have very specific questions. Make sure you take notes while doing your readings because he lets you use your notes during the quizzes. There are 2 exams and then a final. He offers a couple of opportunities for extra credit which can really help your grade. He genuinely tries to help your grade in any way he can, just talk to him. He's not as available as much as other professors because he's a professor at MCC too, so use his office hours wisely. He doesn't make you write any papers, which is really nice. Just do the readings and take good notes and you'll be fine!  - Grade In Class:A
