Comments:SPA 1301 - I personally liked Professor Aguilar's class because of how evenly paced the coursework was. It wasn't difficult to grasp a concept because the workload was evened out, the quizzes only focused and what was taught in class and the exams had the exact material we were expected to know. There was no way to fall behind in the class. I also liked how Professor Aguilar didn't waste time in class and instead used as much time as possible to teach. I've been able to polish my Spanish skills and am confident I will do well in Spanish 2. Take his class!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2321 - Excellent teacher by far! I am not a native Spanish speaker so I was terrified of being in this class! Many students knew much more than I did. I went to his office during hours and this professor is by far the sweetest. He really wants all of his students to succeed and will always be available to help you! If you have an option to take this class with Dr.Aguilar take him!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2321 - I have had 6 years of experience speaking spanish now and have always excelled in all of my classes. This class particularly was interesting to me because it was something that I felt I could apply to my career. It was super interesting and you learn a lot of really cool customs, traditions, and concepts. The best way to study for this class is to stay up to date on vocabulary and to revise conjugations from previous spanish classes. It's a very rewarding course that I recommend you all take.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Spanish 2310 - Great professor, he helped me with my grammar and was always encouraging students. He is very flexible with his office hours. If I could I would take his class again, he made the class very interesting and I am so happy to have had a professor like him!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - If you are taking SPA 1301, try your best to take Professor Aguilar. He is by far one of the best and nicest professors I've had here at Baylor. He truly cares about his students and will do whatever it takes to help them out. You have homework assignments do every few weeks and a quiz each week which aren't bad. His exams aren't bad either as long as you pay attention in class and in his review the class before. All around he is a great professor and I highly recommend you take him!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - Professor Aguilar's class has been my favorite one to take at Baylor so far. The classroom environment is engaging and comfortable. The homework is all from the textbook and you have plenty of time to complete it (you can even do it in one sitting if you really wanted to). We have a review before every test. Quizzes are short and we will be over the information covered in class before you take the quiz. Aguilar is willing to work with you and makes himself available to answer questions during/after class and on zoom during office hours. He is fair in his grading and is very clear about how to correct your mistakes. He is a very kind man that clearly loves his job and his attitude makes you want to show up to class. If I could take him for every level of Spanish I would happily do so. 10/10 recommend.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:SPA2321 - Professor Aguilar is one of the best Spanish teachers I have had up to date! I have not taken Spanish in the past 4 years, so I was very nervous coming into the class about my knowledge in Spanish, but Professor Aguilar made sure that I had all the resources to succeed in his course. He was very understanding and made sure we knew all of the material before upcoming exams. He also gave a lot of emphasis on pronunciation and conversing in Spanish, which helped me a lot! I would definitely recommend taking Professor Aguilar for SPA2321, you will leave this course feeling more confident about both speaking and understanding Spanish.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:SPA 2321 - If you plan on taking this course, I highly recommend Professor Aguilar. He is very clear on what he wants you to know in his class and his tests are straightforward in the same manner. He is always available to meet with you whenever you need help and he practically responds instantly to emails. The material itself is essential for a career in the medical field, and Professor Aguilar really wants you to learn/apply it and not just regurgitate information. I couldn't imagine taking this course with any other professor.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - Dr. Aguilar is such a great professor. He is so nice, and helpful. He tries his best to make topics interesting and brings a lot of energy to the online class. Dr. Aguilar is without a doubt one of the best teachers I've ever had and certainly the greatest prof I've had at Baylor.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - If you can TAKE HIM. There is a decent amount of work you'll have to do weekly but most answers are on Quizlet, praise the Lord haha. He gives A LOT of extra credit, if you can do the majority of them it will help your grade a lot. When you orally answer questions make sure to use a Spanish accent, try not to be monotone. He will call on people in the class to give answers to the textbook questions but again the answers are on Quizlet. If you don't know the answer don't freak out he'll just ask someone else. Please don't be embarrassed if he makes you say something over again he'll do that to almost everyone, he just does it so we can learn. He always posts announcements about upcoming content to give us an overview of what our quizzes, tests, and exams will be like. You'll have two oral exams and one presentation in his lab course. The oral exams are just five questions from a set of 15. Make a Quizlet to practice your answers, it'll help a lot. The presentation can be pre-recorded so don't worry, you can restart if you mess up. For the online homework put a weekly reminder on your phone because it's on a separate website rather than on canvas, so it's very easy to forget about it. Here's what a weekly to-do list is like for his class: Monday: online homework due & quiz Tuesday(lab): quiz Wednesday: nothing Friday: sometimes a test or exam  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:SPA 2321 - Dr. Aguilar seemed intimidating on the first day of class, but he is awesome! He gave off the impression on syllabus day that he would not teach grammar and that his class has a hefty workload, but it was very manageable overall to be honest. I took this in a COVID semester spring 2021 so it was on Zoom but he made the class have a heavy participation aspect which assisted in learning the material; I'd assume it is the same for in-person. This class is heavy on medical vocabulary and builds on the grammar learned in 2310. If you have a good foundation there, you should do fine. The rest is memorization of medical terms. His Canvas tests can be a little challenging, I was pressed for time on some of them. However, he is a very available professor and encourages everyone to come to his office hours. I would recommend Dr. Aguilar very strongly!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:SPA 2321 - Great professor! Really cares about how well you speak Spanish. He knows a lot about the culture and is willing to help his students in any way he can. Study for the class and you will do great!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2321 - I have really enjoyed taking this class! The class focused a lot on learning about medical terminology and the correct ways to discuss patient care. It was very helpful for a student aspiring to improve in my Spanish speaking abilities and hoping to work in the health care field someday. In the class we had 3 quizzes, 2 presentations, 2 papers, and 4 exams. Yes, I had to study for them but it was not too hard and I really enjoyed our homework. I highly recommend this class! I took it in the Covid semester so it was all online and on zoom but Dr. Aguilar did a fabulous job with the online format and I learned a lot from him this semester. If you're thinking of taking Spanish 2321, definitely take it with Dr. Aguilar!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Spa 1301 - I enjoyed the way that the class flowed. I really felt like I learned more about the Spanish language as well. It gave me a better appreciation for English as well because according to everyone I have talked to, English is a much harder language to learn. I liked the fact that we had to build our oral Spanish skills in order to participate in class because to me I believe it is easiest to read, but to hear and speak it is the tricky part. All in all I had a great semester in this class.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2020-12-08

Comments:1301 - Professor Aguilar was very helpful and understanding. He always made sure we were spelling and pronouncing our words correctly. He made sure to always help in class and out of class so we could succeed. I highly recommend taking his classes!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:SPA 1301 - Mr. Aguilar was one of the best professors I have had since my time at Baylor. He was very nice in a way that he wanted to help you succeed not only in the language but in the class too! Take him if you have the chance, you won'r regret it.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2020-12-08

Comments:SPA 1301 - Dr. Aguilar is always very helpful in office hours and in class. His tests are always over material that was taught and covered in the homework and weekly quizzes. He is very helpful in class, especially with pronunciation and grammar mistakes that I made during class activities. Take him if you are able to!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2020-12-08

Comments:SPA 1301 - Dr. Aguilar is always very helpful during class and during his office hours. It was a bit of an adjustment having a foreign language class over zoom, but Dr. Aguilar was very effective in his teachings over zoom. The homework and weekly quizzes were easy, and kept you from falling behind, and were very similar to the tests. Overall, take him if you can get a spot in his class.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2020-12-08

Comments:SPA 1301 - Not really sure why the ratings are so high. Don't get me wrong, he is a good professor, but definitely not a 96. His teaching style is kind of abrasive and if you don't know the answer to one of his questions, he will grill you in front of the whole class. Not super fun for people who don't like to speak in front of the class. He also is not super helpful over email. However, his tests were not too hard and the HW wasn't bad. I dreaded going to the class mainly because I was afraid of being called out, but if you feel confident in your oral Spanish skills, I would recommend this class. Overall I would still recommend him, but do not expect a cakewalk!  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2020-12-04

Comments:SPA 3302 - I took him during a summer course and I left like he really helped improve my pronunciation. He gave students time to focus on how they say things. After this class, I feel I understand more about grammar and pronunciation which will prepare me for future Spanish classes. The exercises and class conversations added real value to this class. The teacher seems to really care about his students and wants them to improve.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2020-08-10

Comments:2321 - He is amazing and such a nice guy. He sincerely cares about all of his students. Don't be afraid to ask questions in class or during office hours because he will definitely try to answer them. When you need help getting corrections for your papers, ask him!! he will help you so much! This was one of my favorite classes at Baylor so far and I know it will be so helpful for the future!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2020-05-23

Comments:SPA 2321 - Dr. Aguilar's teaching ability is just average but he is one of the nicest professors I have ever had at Baylor. That being said, this class is not really one where you actually need to go to class in order to learn the material. The majority of the class is vocab memorization so a lot of class time is spent just reviewing that. There is some verb conjugation review but it is very minimal. Dr. Aguilar does try to help you out with quizzes and tests and is very flexible. I heard other people complain about taking SPA 2321 with other professors but this class with Dr. Aguilar was very easy if you stayed on top of vocab memorization. Take him if you can!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - Dr. Aguilar is the actual GOAT. He has really motivated me to pursue Spanish to help me be a better future-doc. He is very helpful and makes it clear that he wants you to succeed by making sure everyone has great pronunciation and grammar. Not to mention he is a piano player, poet, and physician.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:intermediate span for med - Take. His. Class. This was an easy A and he is an interesting guy. Pro tip: ask about his poetry in class. Also somehow get him to bring up his facebook. He will chatter off topic for long periods of time and is very helpful with spanish. Haven\'t studied more than an hour for any exam yet.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1401 - Dr. Aguilar is the best spanish teacher at Baylor! He made class easy, fun, and enjoyable. The only thing that was hard about his class was that there was a lot of class participation, but overall the participation helped a lot when it was time for quizzes and exams. I would definitely recommend him!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2320 - Such a great guy, and so caring. He makes so mUch time for office hours (in his tiny office!) To explain concepts and go over questions if you have trouble. He also has amazing stories and life experience if you are interested in Latin America, because he was not always a Prof. I wish I had been able to take Spanish with him from the jump. Would definitely take again.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:ALL - Julio is the most incredible professor one could ask for. This class is rigorous, but spanish at Baylor is never easy. Julio will work with you and make sure you get the grade you deserve. He is very compassionate, and cares about each of his students very much. His accent is a little hard to pick up on at first, but understanding him is no problem at all. Do the work. Read the book for grammar. Do your homework. The rest will come with time. You should walk out of here with whatever grade you want.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Spanish 1401 - Professor Aguilar is the sweetest professor you will ever have. Not only is he passionate about his teaching, but about the success of his students as well. The workload is very doable and the tests are straightforward. As long as you study the vocab and estructuras in the book, you will be golden. Take him if you can!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2320 - Señor Aguilar was the best professor that I have had at Baylor thus far. He is an internationally renowned poet, a native of Mexico and knows everything about the latino culture and language. He knows what he is doing and teaches you the right way to speak Spanish. The class is quite enjoyable as you not only do grammar, but also read interesting stories and poems. He does not give a big workload and often allows you to turn in work late for full credit. He offers a huge amount of extra credit on tests and daily assignments. Sr. Aguilar also is always available to help you on anything that you may have a question on. He explains everything you need to do on a test to earn a good grade. Sr. Aguilar cares a lot about his students and if you looking to earn a certain grade he will do anything to help you. I highly recommend Sr. Aguilar to anyone who is looking for a great and helpful Spanish professor.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2320 - I was recommended this teacher from one of my friends who had previously taken him. Señor Aguilar lives up to his reputation as an excellent professor, and I would highly recommend to anyone that desires to learn a lot about the Spanish language. I have recommended him to my sister, as well - he's that spectacular. He actively works with his students to help them develop into better Spanish speakers, and adjusts his teaching style to the class. Through him, I gained a better appreciation and mastery for the Spanish language, as well as a love for Spanish written works. If I could take a course from him again, I would do it in a heartbeat. If you are looking for a Spanish professor who will work with you to help you succeed, look no further.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:SPA 2310 - First, I want to say my B+ does not reflect his teaching. Prof. Aguilar is actually the best professor I've ever had in my 6 semesters here at Baylor. He really wants his students to do as well as they can in the class. As a native speaker, he really wants to make sure that we understand the language. He offers so many extra credit opportunities. When it comes to essays in the class, he gives you a ton of feedback and lets you make the corrections THEN he gives you a grade. I also took him for 2310, and I have the same comments to make for that class, but just with a little bit of online homework. PLEASE TAKE HIS CLASS, ESPECIALLY IF HAVE TO TAKE SPANISH AT BAYLOR. That's all, bye.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1402 - Professor Aguilar is a really great professor and is one of my favorite professors I've had at Baylor. He's kind to students and genuinely wants you to do well. He makes the classes engaging and relates material to real world situations. He gives opportunities to improve your grade and is more than willing to help you understand whatever you're having trouble understanding. His tests are very fair and exactly what's covered in class/in the book. If you do the homework and keep up with the material then you'll do great. Go to his office hours if you're confused, Spanish is his first language so he's very knowledgable!  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:2320 - This was a great introduction into the Spanish literary canon. All of the short stories we read would be extensively discussed in class so that each student would be able to understand what was going on. All of the assignments are manageable and reinforces the material. The tests were difficult but he made tried to prepare you amply before each one. It truly was a pleasure to take this class.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2017-05-01

Comments:1402 - Professor Aguilar is a very passionate man. He cares about the students learning Spanish more than anything. If he sees that students are struggling with one topic, he will reinforce that topic before moving on to the next. He is a very intelligent man, and this shows in his teaching ability. The homework he assigns is really to make sure students learn the vocab and is very doable! Overall, he is one of the best professors I have taken in my time at Baylor.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1402 - Dr. Aguilar is very passionate about teaching Spanish and wants all of his students to get good grades. He works with you to improve your knowledge on the subject and to make sure that you understand it. The homework he assigns is based on completion and he has quizzes every Tuesday. He helps you with the tests beforehand and really wants everyone to succeed. I enjoyed his class a lot and he made five days a week of the same class fly by.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2017-05-01

Comments:1402 - Dr. Aguilar is really helpful, and he understands that students are really busy. His tests are not hard if you study the material, and he's good at writing exams that stick close to the book. As long as you study, you'll be fine. His homeworks are online, and he works with you to get them done. He seems to really care about his students, and I'm glad I took his class for both Spanish I and Spanish II.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2017-05-01

Comments:2310 - Professor Aguilar was my absolute favorite professor! Spanish is his first language so he is very knowledgeable and will ask questions about English to teach him as well. He is very friendly and will not make you feel intimidated at all! He cares a lot about his students and wants them to succeed! He gives extra credit opportunities and will work with you if you are not happy with your grade. The homework is all online and is only completion. You do not need to do it all either. Only a few minutes on each assignment and he will be pleased. He just wants to see that you are trying. Also, he discusses with the class what the tests and quizzes should be over so if you feel very confident about one particular chapter he will be sure to have you tested on that versus one you aren't so confident about. He is a great professor and person and I recommend taking him 100%!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2017-01-11

Comments:1401 - Dr. Aguilar has taught me so much in just one semester. He is very kind and understanding all around. He'll make you repeat your answer if your pronunciation isn't correct. Homework was about 8-9 hrs long online but we were given 2-3 weeks to complete it. All quizzes and tests were simple and didn't ask about things you hadn't learned yet. I enjoyed this class.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:2310 - Dr. Julio Aguilar is one of the BEST language professors here at Baylor. He is a well-known Poet and writer. He is very nice and encouraging to his all students. He pushes all of his students to do their best and knows how to teach. He gives you 3 test and a final. The test are based off the book and his lectures. I highly recommend going to all his classes. He wants you to learn how to speak ,so most of his class lectures requires you to respond in some Spanish. Don't worry though, it may feel uncomfortable at first, but it really does help improve your Spanish. He gives online homework as a completion grade and at least six essay entries. He also gives 1 quiz each chapter. Again. Professor Aguilar really wants his students to succeed and has plenty of office hours. He responds to his emails right away and will try to help you in every way. I highly recommend taking him for Spanish!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2310 - Learning a new language is difficult. Being graded on your performance and ability to use a language is stressful. Professor Aguilar understands this and helps his students every step of the way. He assigns written homework that he gives immediate feedback on, his quizzes are fair, and the tests are based off the homework. His class was my favorite to attend because he used the material from the book and applied his experience with the language to the course. He loves spanish poetry and he constantly brings up Mexican artists and writers to try and get you interested in learning the language. His accent is thick and hard to understand at first, but the more you listen, the more you can pick up. I highly recommend taking him for spanish 2310.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1401 - Professor Aguilar is a wonderful teacher and genuinely cares about his students. He is deeply invested in actually teaching Spanish and not just having you memorize a bunch of vocab. You'll have online homework over the lessons and a quiz once a week, but they are generally easy if you pay attention in class. Tests are a mixture of multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank, and free response. Overall, if you have the opportunity to take his class, I highly recommend it!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2016-12-12

Comments:1401 - Professor Aguilar is a very kind man who genuinely cares about his students and their grades. Class time is productive and the quizzes/tests are only over what is discussed in class. The online homework is a completion grade, but it does help with comprehension of the material. He teaches based off of the book and is always willing to take time to re-explain a topic. I highly reccomend Professor Aguilar whether you have or have not taken any Spanish classes before!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1412 - Mr. Aguilar is the best Spanish teacher I have ever had. He is extremely helpful and patient. The workload is very manageable and he is always there to help if you need it. He really wants to see his students succeed and if you ever have the chance to take him you should! It is very easy to get an A in his class and you learn a lot.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1401 - Dr. Aguilar is an absolutely fantastic professor. He explains everything very clearly and gives students countless opportunities to ask questions. He's also extremely patient and understanding if asked to review the material again, or if you're having difficulty with pronunciations. Additionally, he's friendly and approachable - his office hours are very convenient and he really likes to help his students. He gives online HW (which does take time to complete, but most of it can be repeat until you get a perfect score!) and he goes over all written quizzes in class, which are a very good representation of the actual tests. As long as you pay attention in class and do the HW, then you will learn Spanish from the best!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1401 - Professor Aguilar is the nicest, most genuine professor that I have had so far during my experience at Baylor. He cares for all the students and wants them to do well no matter the circumstances. He always makes himself available for office hours and extra credit. The workload is average, the online homework takes a while but if you actually do it, then it will show in your grades. I find foreign language classes to be difficult but Professor Aguilar made it fun and worthwhile. If you take him you won't regret it, he is a great teacher!!!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1412 - He is a very kind man who cares a lot that his students learn over the course of the semester. His homework is completion online and he is very lenient about the due date. He is a little hard to understand sometimes but we taught him some English as he taught us Spanish. He cares a lot that you learn how to pronounce correctly, and he sometimes calls you out to practice pronunciation. His quizzes and tests are easy if you pay attention in class. I highly recommend him!!  - Grade In Class:A
