Comments:1309 - Do not take this guy. Not helpful at all and does not care about any situation you may be in. Tests will not be similar to lectures or HW so good luck. Take any other professor but not this guy.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:1309 - I LOVE THIS MAN. I suck at math. Like I barely passed PreCal with C, and I thought it would be the same for Calculus, but I was wrong!! Mr. Jaynes was always there for his office hours and was pleased to help his students with math. He gave us 10 quizzes and dropped the lowest 3, but the quiz was identical to the hw problems from the department. All you have to do is memorize the steps and answers. Talking about HW. Your hw is not mendtory. You do it if you want to or you don't. I did it since the quiz was the hw. He gives you every point that he can so he can make sure you pass this class. The workload is a lot since it's math, but if you do your hw and practice a lot, you should be fine. I don't think I could've to pass Calculus with B if I had any other professor other then Mr. Jaynes.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1309 - I'm absolutely horrible at math and I barely passed business pre-cal, but Mr. Jaynes was an absolutely amazing professor! He went through examples in class and explained every step. He also tried to make sure everyone understood before he moved on. The couple times I still didn't understand something I saw him after class or during office hours and he would show me a different way to work the problem that I usually understood. He does expect you to work and gives out a short 2-3 q quiz almost every week. He also gives you 4 tests instead of 3 so that way you can drop your lowest test score. He does also try to give his own review sessions before the exam outside of class hours since he doesn't have an SI.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:MTH 1309 - Jaynes is a really good professor. However, the class is challenging because it is business calculus. Jaynes gives 4 exams totaling 60% of your grade. Homework is OPTIONAL and he does not pick it up, which is great because the departmental problems lists that many teachers require their students to do takes forever. That being said, he does give homework quizzes over the material pretty much every class. As long as you have a basic understanding of the concepts and practice a few problems before class you should do fine on those, and they are only 10% of the grade. Usually we are quizzed on a section 1 week after he completes the notes for that section. He also drops your 6 lowest quiz grades. The best thing about Jaynes is that he is VERY forgiving when he grades. He understands that this is a hard subject and tries to give you every possible point. I'm not the best at math and if I were being graded by another professor I might not have passed this class. While his test are tough, he is more focused that you understand the concepts of calculus and takes off only a few points if any for minor algebraic mistakes. The departmental final exam is worth 30%, but I think Jaynes' test prepared me well for that. The test are also very similar to the homework quizzes. He also post copies of his notes on canvas after each class and puts the quiz and exam solutions so you know what you did wrong. I would highly recommend taking him.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:MTH 1308 - Jaynes is great! He's new, but don't let that fool you! He's a great teacher and he's very forgiving when he grades. You get TONS of partial credit! His tests are short and to the point. You'll have one quiz each week that's open note, and the homework is optional and doesn't count for a grade. He even has his own review sessions for tests so you don't depend on the SI. Take Jaynes, you won't regret it!  - Grade In Class:A
